"Tribespeople"

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 06:57 PM PST

Hey! I hate to cross-post, but I made a massive thread on the Ludeon forums with a pretty in-depth suggestion for factions. I think as many people should read and weigh in on it as possible, as I think it seems to be one of the last steps Rimworld needs to take to truly be considered a 1.0 game.

Randy's Telling Me to Move On

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 03:55 PM PST

Started a new "Rich Explorer" scenario with Weiss, a settler with decent stats. Randy on rough, my preferred settings. She set down in a mountainous area that looked to be really easy to defend. She sets up a quick bedroom and a storage room, then goes about planting some crops.

Randy kicks in the door with a plague event. That's fine. That's why we have glitterworld meds, right? Wrong.

Weiss kept treating herself, right into the ground. Or more correct, 'til she died in her bed. I might have saved her if I had restricted her to the bed right after she was infected, but I let her work the crops a bit afterwards, always tending herself immediately after the last round of meds wore off.

Just before she died, a caravan of pirate merchants came through. Corazon, Weiss' dedicated little terrier, went crazy after her death and began mauling (the ankles of) the merchants. Poor little thing didn't last long.

I let the sim go for a bit on triple speed, hoping someone would come along. Beatrice did, but in an attempt to raid the (empty) colony. She beat down a wall, and started on the door... just about the same time that Starry the Gardener came on the scene, trying to escape from Red, a scout of the Black Gazelle Mabiatol.

By the time Starry reaches the colony proper, Beatrice has taken to setting the nearby crops on fire. Randy, in all his glorious wisdom, granted me the opportunity to watch the crops (and soon, the colony) burn to the ground in a lovely uncontrolled bonfire. Randy saw fit to grant Starry the wonderful attribute of pyromania, allowing her to gaze upon the fire in all its destructive glory rather than lift a pinky to put it out.

That's alright though... She slipped between the tongues of flame dancing among the strawberry patch, past the half beaten down door, to grab Weiss' charge rifle. Beatrice and Red attack each other as Starry peeks out through the broken wall, waiting 'til Red beats Beatrice unconscious. She fires the rifle several times, hitting Red three times, but he prevails, beating Starry senseless. He throws her unconscious body over his shoulder and walks off while the crops burn on, flames licking the walls of the bedroom.

I don't know if I have the heart to wait 'til the fire destroys it all...

Misc: Fog of War is my new worst enemy.

Posted: 07 Feb 2018 01:15 AM PST

So I started a new game today and found I had spawned on a map that was maybe 25% grass and 75% mountain. I was so excited. It was such a cool situation to be in with minimal ground for growing food and wood, but having this massive mountain to build in.

It then turned out that the mountain was about 10 blocks thicker than I had mined, so when I went to build a new storage room i broke through and reveal that the map was more like 85% grass. I think I might just retire this save because I'm so let down.

[idea] Temporary prison

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 10:01 PM PST

Whenever someone goes on a violent mental break I typically arrest them to keep them from doing to much harm. Do others agree that either a modder or Tynan should add prison mechanics beyond just rerecruiting the pawns, such as time length sentencing, or toggleable confinement?

Nightmarish machining tables

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 06:56 PM PST

As a man who loves his guns I keep a couple weapon mods around to add some variety to the mix. Most modmakers make their guns craftable at the machining table.

Makes sense. Problem is after a couple researches the list of bills at that dang table looks like someone ate a couple issues of Guns & Ammo and projectile barfed over my limited screen space. The list becomes too long and tedious to eye through when I'm looking for THAT ONE GUN.

I know there's a mod somewhere in my mod list that made the tailoring bench all neat and tidy despite using both rimfashionista and apparello + couple others. Haven't found any that deals with the machining table though.

Have you had the same problem as I? Any solution? Sure, could skip two or three weapon mods but I admittedly want to have my cake and eat it too.

Creds to Chicken Plucker and rooki1 for adding seperate workbenches for their guns.

Maiming all raiders?

Posted: 07 Feb 2018 01:08 AM PST

It's common in the military to consider being maimed worst than being dead, for obvious reasons.

I know there's a chance my peg legged former prisoners come back in a raid for a shot at revenge but I'm wondering how this is calculated.

Is there just a percentage chance that a member of each raid is a former prisoner? Or is there actually some kind of "roster" other factions have, so if I peg leg a bunch of pirates there's a higher chance that future raids from that faction are composed largely of my victims.

My doc is damn near perfect so I'm not sure if it's worthwhile to keep maiming survivors of raids as opposed to butchering them, especially since they carry information about traps back to base (due to my base's positioning, entire raids then to get wiped out with no survivors, even if they try to run, so my trap placement remains a secret).
