PUBG /r/PUBATTLEGROUNDS End of Year Survey - Results!

/r/PUBATTLEGROUNDS End of Year Survey - Results!

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 03:50 PM PST

As you may remember, back at the end of last year we asked you to answer a short survey about the Subreddit - its rules, content, and quality. I'm pleased to say we finally (I know this took a while...) have the results to share with you!

Full report here

That's a pretty long document, and while I encourage you to read it if you're interested (it took us a while to compile and discuss!), the TL;DR version is below:

Survey

The survey was open from the end of November to mid-December and received 11,191 responses in total.

Results highlights

What type of content do you browse /r/PUBATTLEGROUNDS for?

Graph

  • The majority of respondents were interested in content directly related to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (gameplay discussion, highlights, official news) rather than 'meta' content such as bug reports and esports.

Overall, how satisfied are you with the /r/PUBATTLEGROUNDS subreddit?

Graph (1 = Not at all, 5 = Very)

  • The mean value was 3.8. Taking ratings of 4 and 5 to mean 'satisfied', 72% of respondents were satisfied with the subreddit overall.

Would you like to see more or less of this kind of content:

Gameplay discussion and theory

Graph

  • 67% wanted to see some change, with 63% wanting more.

Have you ever reported a post or comment on the subreddit for breaking the subreddit or site-wide rules?

Graph

  • The vast majority (93%) of respondents have never reported a post or comment on /r/PUBATTLEGROUNDS. The fraction of users who responded 'Yes' to this question (7%) is likely to be higher than the fraction of users as a whole, since users who are more engaged in the subreddit on a 'meta' level through actions like reporting are more likely to have taken the survey.

Do you have any suggestions for improvements to the Subreddit?

The list below consolidates some common themes of constructive feedback and requests:

  • More sticky posts and megathreads for topics which are posted regularly
  • Taking more action against users who only complain about the game or are toxic to other users
  • Encourage more positivity
  • More interaction from the game's developers/staff (e.g. AMAs)
  • Better posting and stickying of patch notes

Conclusions

So what are we going to do with these results?

There's a full write up of our plans in the full report, but these are a highlight:

  • Many categories in Q4 (Would you like to see more or less of this kind of content) had a split in answers between wanting to see more and less of that category. This is a hard problem to solve, but we think the key is in post flairing. We're going to take a look at our flairing system and see if we can find a way to improve it. The new Subreddit redesign also includes improved filtering (https://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/7xjt6g/because_its_valentines_day_heres_a_longwinded/) and we're already testing it out.

  • There was a strong feeling in the survey that many users wanted to see more gameplay discussion. We plan to start a Weekly Discussion Thread where we sticky a post with a particular topic of discussion, usually focused on gameplay.

  • We plan to continue taking action against users who are toxic or have a consistently negative attitude towards other players, and are working on improving our escalating warning/ban method.

  • More interaction from the game's developers/staff (e.g. AMAs) - This is something we regularly push for with our contacts at PUBG Corp., and you'll notice that there have been a number of additional posts and comments from the community managers here this month. This is a combination of the team's efforts to retain good links with PUBG Corp., and their recently increased ability to engage with our community.

We'd love to hear your thoughts and interpretations of these results, here's to a great 2018!

PUBG Weekly Discussion Thread - Blue zone behaviour

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 02:39 AM PST

We recently published our end of year survey results and one of the pieces of feedback you had for the subreddit was that there wasn't enough opportunity for constructive discussion about the game. To help with this we're going to be posting a weekly discussion thread on a topic related to the game to get some discussions happening!

This week the topic is:

Blue zone behaviour

Some questions to get you thinking:

  • Do you like the 8 phase model of stopping and starting?
  • Do you feel like the current timings are fair and fun?
  • If you think changes need to be made, what are they?
  • Is the blue zone damage reasonable, and what do you think of the recent change to increase the damage over time with distance from the circle?

Got an idea for a topic you want to discuss next week? Reply to my stickied comment below!

[Unpopular Opinion] I'm glad this game is decreasing in popularity

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 05:12 PM PST

Im glad this game is finally getting more criticism and people are fleeing away from the game ,its a good step in the video game industry, seeing players finally say "this isnt acceptable" and taking action rather than just staying on the game. Bluehole has been completely silent and gone back on their word many times(crates before release anyone? many more). Poor servers, poor programming, constant maintenance. Fortnite is blowing them out of the water in terms of quality, you might not like the game but they are treating their game MUCH better than PUBG. Im glad this game will finally get treated on how they have been treating the fanbase, being lazy and silent.

Why the fuck do i always hear footsteps nearby even though there is no one. even if i stand still. sometimes the real footsteps of people are gone.

i give up on this game, way to go bluehole.
