Great news, Trainers! If you're lucky enough to evolve your Dragonair into Dragonite during this month's #PokemonGOCommunityDay, your Dragonite will know a special move—Draco Meteor!

The need for an official EX Raid Schedule - helping us work to meet Niantic's criteria

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 12:40 PM PST

I'm think we all agree that Niantic took a big step forward last week in announcing greater transparency in selection criteria. Finally EX Raids feel more like an acheivable quest. The next step in helping trainers would now appear to be for Niantic to institute a regular - and official - distribution date for raid passes (e.g. each Friday/every other Friday).

This would enable trainers to work to meet the criteria with even greater certainty in their objective, and with greater confidence that their efforts would contribute to the prospects of receiving a pass. In particular, if we knew when passes were to be distributed we would know to put in even greater effort 'the week before' the next distribution wave was due.

I'd love for Niantic to build upon their recent positive commitment to greater transparency in this way. EX pass distribution would remain a lottery, but we would be in a position both to understand the rules (last week's announcement), and how to play by them.

Legendary Dogs

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 06:25 AM PST

This event is fun even though i didn't find shiny Poochyena, but I feel like if they added the Legendary dog Pokemon ( Entei, Suicune, Raikou ) in raids for a couple days would have made the event a little bit more exciting for those who haven't caught them.

This is just an idea i had.

[Story] Roleplaying as Team Rocket

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 12:50 PM PST

Today I set out to walk as much as I could to enjoy the event, but my pokeballs were running low and I decided to take some gyms while I waited pokestops to recharge.

Then I saw it. My gym was taken by a level 14 Mystic player, who had used a lure not far from it. Since my Team Rocket outfit was almost complete, I decided to get into the spirit of it and have some fun with the kid.

I easily take down his 600 CP wailmer and walk calmly towards the lure. A fat, shirtless kid passes by me to take his gym back. I smile at him.

He attacked my 2k CP Aggron once, then came back to the lure marked Pokestop, seemingly knowing that I'd take it back. He sees me laugh as I leave, and I wave goodbye as he peeks around the corner to see if I had left.

Now we wait...

The Aggron's stamina lowered, he was taking it down, but a level 14 probably didn't know I could berry it from afar, nor what golden Razzberries did.

As soon as I saw the dust settle, I tapped my pokemon and fed it the delicious treat. Back to 2k+ CP.

I sure would've liked to see his face of confusion, but I saw something much, much more beautiful.

18 CP was taken off my Aggron. He had fainted all of his pokemon, unaware that I had healed it.

"It's good to be bad with the new Team Rocket uniforms!" Yes it is, Niantic, yes it is.

Legendary Raids aren’t fair to rural players

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 06:30 PM PST

i hate to rant but it makes me really upset that i can't do a rayquaza raid because no one shows up or plays anymore in this town. In the summer it was amazing because i had found 5 other players who lived here but now it's impossible to do Rayquaza because no one will show up. I try to inform my states discord but no one ever responds. Maybe Niantic can implement a feature where if you live in a rural town you get unlimited time on legendary raids so you can still beat it. Anyone else feel my struggle?

[Idea] Eeveelutions: Evolving for the form you want.

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 04:31 AM PST

Umbreon / Espeon each have a simple way of evolving once you have used the Sakura/Tamao option. Therefore anyone looking to evolve Eevee into Umbreon simply needs to walk 10k and evolve at night.

What about someone who really wants a Vaporeon, and has used 'Rainer'?
Well they have to spin RNG wheel of fun and hope for the best which isn't very useful, not with more Eeveelutions coming with Gen 4.
It's unlikely Niantic will add Elemental evolution stones into the mix, however another possible solution or topic of discussion is: Weather

  • Vaporeon: Eevee as buddy, walk at least 10k and then evolve while the in game weather is raining.

  • Flareon: As above and evolve while the in game weather is Sunny.

  • Jolteon: Cloudy

  • Glaceon: Snow & Fog

  • Leafeon: Partially cloudy or Windy

Exception: Sylveon: TBC - 20k like Milotic?

With the addition of Eevee into the Luna event, and maybe even coming close to getting a shiny release, I thought it worth discussing especially if people have used the single serving name 'trick' and want a specific shiny Eeveelution that's not Espeon / Umbreon.

Tauros

Poliwrath (hatched a perfect poliwag)

Poochyena.

Community Day Clarification

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 03:34 PM PST

February 24th brings us a special Dartini that will learn Draco Meteor when it evolves. I already have a Dragonite with Outrage, one with Hyperbeam, and a Dragonair. Who knows what it will have. As well as 3 Rayquaza with Outrage (I prefer the full dragon movesets).

I'm wondering first: Does the special Dratini need to be evolved fully into Dragonite during the event to get Draco Meteor, or can it stop at Dragonair and wait for candy later? Doubt I'll get a full load of candy during the time.

And second: is it really worth it?

Even though Salamence can learn the move via TM (if I ever get a damn Bagon) and Rayquaza is the BEST dragon type overall according to most sources, but inefficiently walked for candy (like I care) should I concentrate on my efforts to walk a current Dragonite to grab more and sneak my way into the event at work? Or just let Bagons be Bagons?

What should I work towards? Stay with my Rayquaza (because it's a badass)? Hunt down Bagon relentlessly? (The struggle is real) Walk with my Dragonite that's maxed for my level? Or Walk my Dragonair and chill?

[Video] How to catch side moving Pokemon

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 06:38 PM PST

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LtWH7x_dmk&t

Just a note that was not included in the video. I believe the angle in which you swipe dictates where the ball will land horizontally and how high you release dictates where it hits vertically. So basically too low of an angle it will hit the left of a Pokemon or miss and too high it will fly off the screen to the right.

Hope this helps others on catching them.

[Idea] Custom Raids and Daily Challenges

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 02:27 PM PST

I think I've come up with a decent idea that can help players, that don't have anybody to raid with or don't like to do raids. I tried to come up with something that can be implemented very easily, will not require a lot of work from Niantic, and can be fun for ALL players, but at the same time increases Niantic's bottom line (they are a business after all). TLDRThe idea is based on a daily/weekly challenge system. Where we receive daily/weekly challenges to complete and are rewarded with Keys. They keys can then be redeemed for Raid Boss Eggs which we can incubate like regular eggs, or insert into a gym and battle like a regular raid. Other redeemable prizes include the rewards exclusive to raids (Golden Razz, Rare Candy, and TMs).

Details

Every day there will be 2 new daily challenges available to the player (they can dress it up and make it come from the professor). There will be a button in menu just like pokemon, shop, and items. When it's clicked, 3 challenges will be displayed, a Catch Challenge, A Buddy Challenge, and a Special Weekly Challenge. The player will get the Special Weekly Challenge and can then choose whether they want the Catch Challenge OR the Buddy Challenge as a daily challenge. Each challenge will have different Levels (Bronze, Silver, and Gold). We will be able to see what the challenges are and the different levels before we make our choice.

Catch Challenges The catch challenges will be in the form of catching a specific Type of Pokémon. For example: Catch Fire Pokemon: Level Challenge Reward Bronze: Catch 1 Fire Pokemon 1 Key Silver: Catch 5 Fire Pokemon 2 Keys Gold: Catch 15 Fire Pokemon 3 Keys

There will be 20 challenges in the pool; one for each type, one for weather boosted, and one for any type. Obviously, the weather boosted and any challenges, will have a higher number to catch at each level. Each challenge will have an equal chance of appearing, with the exception of not having the same challenge two days in a row. Each trainer will have the same challenge available.

Buddy Challenges The buddy challenges will be in the form of walking a specific Type of Pokemon. For example:

Walk Psychic Pokemon: Level Challenge Reward Bronze: Walk 1 km with a Psychic type Buddy 1 Key Silver: Walk 3 km with a Psychic type Buddy 2 Keys Gold: Walk 7 km with a Psychic type Buddy 3 Keys

There will be 19 challenges in the pool; one for each type and one for any type. Each challenge will have an equal chance of appearing, with the exception of not having the same challenge two days in a row.

Caveat: For this to be appealing, Niantic needs to change the buddy distance walked for candy resetting for each Pokémon. For example, you are walking your Larvitar for candy and you have 4 km walked. If you accept a challenge to walk a water pokemon, switching to Magikarp to walk will not reset the 4 km walked from your Larvitar buddy. So when you switch back to that Larvitar, he will still have 4 km walked. This only applies to candy not challenges, i.e. The next day you can't accept a walk a Rock pokemon and switch to that larvitar with 4 km to instantly get Silver in that challenge.

Special Weekly Challenges The weekly challenges will be the same for all trainers every week. They will have a higher threshold to achieve, but will have higher key rewards. Some examples of a weekly challenge will be:

Hatch Challenge Level Challenge Reward Bronze: Hatch 4 Eggs 7 Keys Silver: Hatch 7 Eggs 10 Keys Gold: Hatch 12 Eggs 15 Keys

Raid Challenge Level Challenge Reward Bronze: Win 4 Raids 7 Keys Silver: Win 7 Raids 10 Keys Gold: Win 12 Raids 15 Keys

XP Challenge Level Challenge Reward Bronze: Gain 70K XP 7 Keys Silver: Gain 150K XP 10 Keys Gold: Gain 250K XP 15 Keys

Some other weekly challenges can include taking down X amount of Gyms in a week, Holding gyms for X amount of hours, Spinning X amount of pokestops, and Gaining X amount of candy from buddies. While most of those can be done for free, the Hatch challenge, Raid challenge, and XP challenge will require some money spent (incubator, raid passes, lucky eggs), hence how this benefits Niantic. (Having special shop boxes themed to weekly challenge can be helpful too, for us and Niantic. Challenge levels and rewards can be adjusted to how they see fit.

Rewards Now for the good part, what to do with all those keys? Unlock rewards of course. The rewards are listed below

Reward Key Cost Golden Rasberry 2 Keys Rare Candy 2 Keys TM 12 Keys Tier 1 Raid Egg 5 Keys Tier 2 Raid Egg 7 Keys Tier 3 Raid Egg 10 Keys Tier 4 Raid Egg 15 Keys Tier 5 Raid Egg 20 Keys

The way the Raid Eggs would work, is you have two options. You can either incubate the Egg (T1=10km, T2=15km, T3=20km, T4=25km, T5=30km), or you can place the egg in a Gym and start a raid battle.

Custom Raid If you place an egg in a gym, the egg will have a 1 minute hatch countdown, and the boss will have a 30 minute raid countdown. Just like a normal raid, it will require a raid pass, everyone will be able to see it in game, and can complete it. Rewards, difficulty, catch rate, and everything will the same as if it were a normal random spawn raid with only the timers being different. (We are trying to keep it as simple for Niantic to implement). However, and I know you're thinking it, this will not contribute to EX raid qualifications. (If it were up to me, sure make it count. But I think the mode they use, whatever that is, won't be able to use the data from a custom raid. If they can, then go for it and make it count)

This helps everyone because now people who don't do raids can hatch a raid boss, and can hatch Legendary Pokémon as well. I don't think it will be broken or mean legendary are not special anymore. As you see from the rewards, the maximum T5 eggs someone can hatch are 1 (almost 2) in one week. I know people catch 2+ legendries' a day. The Legendary mon will be whatever the current legendary is at the time that the egg was picked up. So, if I were to pick it up now, I could hold on to it, and 5 months from now hatch it, or raid it for a Rayquaza. (This can also be a way to bring back previous T5 mons, if they indicate that collecting a certain egg within X time period will hatch one of the legendary birds, for example).

The ability to have a custom raid adds a new dynamic to the game. I think that's a game changer, even for rurals that say they go into cities for raids, and find no people around. This will definitely make it easier because you can know well in advance where the raids will be. And if you still don't like raids, no problem. Hatch your legendary. (I thought of this before they announced community day, but I think it works hand in hand, cuz you know for community days, those T5 eggs will be dropping)

Final Thoughts

The buddy challenges make walking meaningful again, and give rural players an equal shot at getting the same amount of keys (or more if they want to adjust the key rewards for each challenge). Also serves as a plan B for everyone when the Catch Dragon type challenges come up.

The weekly challenges have endless possibilities for Niantic. They can have their own challenges and can do similar events like the world catch challenge. Alternative to catching, it can be "The World Hatch or walking challenge", also the reward doesn't have to be to unlock a pokemon, it could be to unlock double candy/dust/items, or half buddy/egg distance, or what not. Not an event like that every week, that would be exhausting, but every once in a while, like they do the "Type" events. This gives players an ability to track their contribution. I'm sure they can also come up with certain challenges for the mythical pokemon as well. Not to mention, also make some money.

I have spent a good month or so coming up with this system. I'm sure yall will have things I didn't think of, and welcome that. But I just wanted to put this out there, in hope that it catches Niantic's eye and they can implement something along these lines. They can have all the credit for the idea.
