If you haven't done the all hero challenge yet, you should definitely do it!

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 01:11 PM PST

There's no reason not to do it if you want to get good at the game. With the addition of turbo mode, you can do it in even quicker time.

I'm currently doing the all hero challenge right now. I'm nearly midway through it, but I already feel like I improved my game play. Before the challenge, I felt like I wasn't contributing much to my team, but now I often get the top kill count or tower damage on my team.

What's great about the all hero challenge is that you get to play each hero, so that you know what's the strength and weakness of each one of them. Playing a variety of heroes also strengthens your general dota gameplay because you need to adjust to new heroes each time.

Another thing is you get to play heroes that are not in the meta or not played in certain mmr's. For example, I just played an arc warden game, and I was killing everybody because nobody knew how to counter me. If I'm going to play ranked I'm certainly going to abuse this fact.

What is considered a successful offlane?

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 07:05 AM PST

I played started spamming offlane and try to make space for midder and carry. My thought process was I am going to create chaos on this side of map and if 3 to 5 people rotate, my offlane was successful even if i die. Is there another way to interpret a succesful offlane in ranked? Thanks for advice.

How to play 7.07d Tinker?

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:17 AM PST

I've just watched a lot of Funekal (top 10 rank player EU Tinker spammer) and I am all of a sudden really confused on his item build.

I know 4k pubs are different than 7k pubs he plays in, but the usually players try to mimic the playstyle of higher MMR players to improve their own play.

My ideal Tinker build is this:

Null, Bottle, Soul Ring, BoTs, Blink, Kaya, Aghs, Scythe, Dagon (occasionally force/BKB/linkens if needed)

However, Funekal usually build him like this:

Null, Bottle, BoTs/Soul Ring, Force Staff, Blink, Aether Lens, Aghs, Dagon, Scythe (with a few variations when needed)

I understand WHY he buys force staff because he needs it against a lot of counters, but why does he buy Aether Lens? And Dagon before Scythe?

Also he almost always takes +75 cast range over the 6% spell amp which boasts a higher winrate.

Same with the +40 movement speed over 10% spell lifesteal.

Thoughts?

Is Tuskar a viable Offlaner?

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 11:12 AM PST

I recently picked up this hero, I'm not very good with him though. I know he's usually played as a roamer but I imagine his iceshards are pretty useful for blocking creeps and getting last hits (kinda like Clock).

Who are the top offlaners these days?

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:13 AM PST

Hi,

Looking to improve my offlaning and not sure who are considered top offlanes, whether they are pro on not.

S4? Moonmeander? Dunno?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Phantom Illusions & Battlefury

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:05 AM PST

I've seen so many Phantom Lancers going battlefury recently - has the item been changed to allow illusions to cleave?

My understanding was that PL illusions only benefit from stats, not attack damage. But certain unique attack modifiers do work like diffusal blade mana burn...

Can someone clear up which items work on PL illusions and which don't? Thanks

Is it still possible using console commands to check your unranked mmr.

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 03:28 PM PST

Backstory. Climbed to 3.9k ranked using a small hero pool and I assume that my unranked mmr was a similar level because I played the same heroes the same way. However the last few weeks I've decided to play only unranked using a completely different set of heroes and roles. I'm losing a lot; that's the price you have to pay to learn and I'm cool with that. My winrate is down to like 1 win for every 7 losses. I'd like to keep tabs on my unranked mmr because it must be falling quite quickly while I learn these heroes. This is important because I don't want to start playing ranked with these new heroes until I've achieved a similar skill level with them. But all I can see is that my unranked games have gone from high/ very high skill brackets to normal/ high skill. I know it use to be possible to discover your unranked (hidden mmr) using console commands. Is it still possible and if so how?

How do I carry?

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 02:45 PM PST

https://www.opendota.com/players/141104117

Here is my OD acc. I usually play 4/5 but for soloq I'm trying to play 1 as much as possible as I'm trying to learn the role better. How do I carry and finish games, cause I seem to have serious problems with this one aspect. I feel like my itemization is right and my "milestones" so to say are on point, but I always seem to lose fights in team or I'm unable to splitpush because of the pressure the enemy team puts on me.

Any suggestions and tips are greatly appreciated.

Can someone explain warding in PUBs

Posted: 30 Jan 2018 10:19 PM PST

Hi,

I started playing DOTA since the last 4-5 months(since 8/2017) so my understanding of this topic might not be very correct and also I may have not enough experience since I only have ~400 hrs in the game(mostly in herald and gaurdia level pubs). Also I played support for most of my games.

I have been watching a lot of pro games(most recently from ESL genting) and I've noticed that pro players don't use/place wards very often like unless they think there is a fear of gank or if they want to take some objectives. If you play like that in the pug game there will be always some guy who will flame you and say the "we need wards" and/or "shit support". Also to add to that in the pro games the players are more organized, they have a better idea of what to expect and how the enemy team is going to play. They will usually play around each other. Which I think is not possible in low level pubs.(People who play in high level pubs also seem so coordinated and play around each other which I find very surprising.)

So this is my question: how do you ward effectively at this level? I'll always try to buy wards when they are available, try to place them in area where I think the team should go to take objectives. I usually try to ping towers and or rosh after placing the wards. If my team is good they will play according to the provided vision but this will not always play as I/we expect. You cannot account for every possible location or gank in the game and there are some deaths that you cannot avoid(this happens in pro games too when the enemy team will smoke gank a carry farming safe lane jungle). Also as a support you want to maximize your participation in team fights. So how do you balance everything and be effective and efficient.

MoM v.s. BF on Faceless Void

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 06:59 AM PST

So ever since the MoM nerf back on last patch it seems things are a bit up in the air about which is the better farming item leaning towards Battlefury due to the new cheaper cost and what it provides in terms of farm escalation.

However at the same time as that I know a few heroes still aren't terrible building the mask of madness in place of the Battlefury so they can begin going into their next items quicker.

In my mind I believe void is one of these heroes given a lot of factors of my own personal mixed success with both items in the current patch giving me about the same amount of wins for different reasons.

Now I'll get to the question, do you believe there is one which is better in the current state of the game for Faceless or is it more situational. If there is one superior over the other what are the specific reasons and what are the negatives of the other. Lastly which do you prefer and why?

Edit: got the answers I needed to see, thanks all!

Silver Edge nerfs.

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:44 AM PST

So what is the deal with this item? It has been nerfed as much as Batrider to the point it is not a natural build-up from Shadow Blade which many heroes still enjoy anymore, but rather a situational item.

So what happened?

Recipe cost increased from 0 to 700.

No longer reduces 50% damage for the duration of the Break.

This is literally what killed Slark who gets this item every game, not the change in meta like people keep believing and even more than the fact Hex cannot be purged by Dark Pact (making Slark completely vulnerable against Shadow Shaman full combo). It also makes Bristleback nearly unstoppable because if you spend so much just to counter him, the remaining 4 enemy heroes will crush you.

Are these nerfs really necessary? I have seen many Shadow Blade users still, but very few Silver Edge unless it's the late game and people want to save slots.

Esrth spirit stone

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 12:39 AM PST

In my current setup, when I press D twice, I can put a stone in front of me and kick it with my Q. D is not in quickcast. And I have "double tap cast on self" is checked. But in addition to this when I press on D once when my cursor is behind the enemy, I want to be able to put stone in one click on the exact location where my cursor is. I want this to be in one click because I will immediately grip stone to silence enemy afterwards. Is this possible?

Is Bristleback a sleeper OP hero this patch ?

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 02:17 AM PST

I dunno if its just me but..I am finding Bristle back incredibly strong right now. Silver edge is costlier and for some reason it doesnt provide that 50 percent damage output reduction (why was this necessary btw ?)

He dominates lane then goes onto dominate midgame and then dominates late game. Thats what I am finding in any case. Even if you do manage to farm up SE in time and apply the break..all he needs to do is activate blademail which he will surely have by the time you have SE. Since the damage output reduction from SE isnt a thing anymore you'd be eating a shit tonne of damage.

The only heroes that seem to reliably deal with him are LC and Axe. And maybe Zeus in lane.

Anyone care to share there thoughts ?

Starting Builds with OD, from laning into mid-game

Posted: 30 Jan 2018 09:02 PM PST

Been trying out the two different OD builds, the max imprisonment and aura before arcane orbs, and the 1 point into astral but putting more into arcane orb.

Which build do you go for and the scenarios you would build it under? Against melee maybe it's more of a preference thing but I'm having a hard time deciding against range heroes. Also would you consider the farming/farming capabilities going into mid game with it?

Any sort of opinions or preference, observation of builds is welcomed here
