Learn Dota 2 - Biggest mistakes you see in the lower ranks?

Biggest mistakes you see in the lower ranks?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 10:17 AM PST

Hey! :D What are the most common, match losing mistakes you see on lower ranks, or perhaps on everyone? Maybe low ranks like me can recover a bit from this post, yes?))

I go first: not buying BKB when it's the most essential

Learning doto

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 10:53 AM PST

Hi,
I am looking to play with ppl around 3k on EU. We can practice and learn the game together. I've mostly been playing normal games these days and last 10 games I 've had 3 out 5 ppl intentionally destroying items/feeding/feeding courier. Realised you cannot practice anything properly like this , so we can make a learnDotoSquad to wreck other scrubs like us. Anyone interested?

How does reporting work?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 07:27 PM PST

from my understanding, reports are all automated.

You get hit if you put a swear word of noob and someone reports you. Sop a few questions:

  1. what about people who do shit like "n0oB" or use leetspeak insults, the system won't catch?

  2. I had a horrible game last week. I was crystal maiden and I was just having a terrible time. I kept getting ganked and by late game, i didn't have enough hp to survive alot of things. I also admit alot of deaths were because I played poorly. I didn't talk or chat - I use hotkeys for missing and pings. Anyways after we lost at like 70mins some dude says "report cm". Will that actually stick? I was like 2/12/5. I admit I played poorly but I wasn't running to the fountain and like I said, I type chat or speak.

Anti-Mage Farming Pattern/General Gameplay

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 04:44 PM PST

Hi guys!

So I currently have a negative win rate on Anti Mage (44% sadly) and I'm trying to look for ways to improve my farming patterns and general gameplay on the hero.

Here is a recent match that I played with ranked with some friends of mine, I was very indecisive to join team fights and wasn't sure if I should've kept farming due to the fact that the enemy was taking our base and stuff.

Here is a dotabuff link to the match: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3719246365

I'm currently Archon 2 and in MMR that would be 2.8k

Also, what do you guys think about the skill and item build that I went? Especially considering they had single target abilities, which is why I went aghs not bkb but then again this could have been an oversight on my part, what do you guys think?

Thanks for any help or tips guys!

How do you beat a mid Shadow Fiend?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 04:56 PM PST

I am a pretty good Legend level mid laner. I find I can go toe-to-toe with any mid, Tinker, Qop, Lina, whatever. Any mid except SF. I don't think I've ever won a lane against SF outside of 1v1 SF only mid.

People say he has a weak early game, I lose to him early game. People say you need to not let him get last hits, but he has more damage than me so I cannot. What does one do to beat SF in lane?

Ultra late game itemization

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 10:23 AM PST

Yesterday I played a game as Antimage which lasted ~90 minutes. Towards the end of the game I was completely maxed on items and I had no idea which items to store and which to actively use. I had a Magnus who would empower me occasionally so I put BF in backpack but what about BoTs etc?

2 Puck games gone wrong - Help please?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 07:09 PM PST

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3718890566

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3718966266

So after around a week of playing the hero and being somewhat confident on him/her, this happened. Now I have played more ranked games on Puck, and won/lost some of them but in those cases I could easily pinpoint my faults and try to improve upon them. These two games however had me feeling a bit lost about what I could have done better, hence this post.

As far as I can tell, both games are roughly similar - one of the enemy side lanes gets extremely fed to a point where I just don't know how to deal with them. I won't say I was "crushing" mid but I'm sure I was winning my lane and ahead of the enemy mid, I just couldn't convert that into any game-winning plays. Anything y'all can point out, whether at a glance from Dotabuff/Opendota or looking at the replay, would be really helpful.

And while we're on this topic, there's one more thing I'd like to know - I see a lot of advice being thrown around about how just getting good at farming can propel one to like 3k. Thing is, do I have to pick certain heroes to do this? Or can I just expect to win with any hero if I'm 5k net worth ahead of everyone else in the game? I'm asking this because I'll probably be looking to experiment with heroes like SF/TA mid which are probably better at "carrying" and closing out games compared to a hero like Puck, and I wonder if I will have better results with the former two if I actually am better than everyone else at farming in my bracket (which is probably what I'm working towards, since in most of my previous Puck games I could easily maintain a very high GPM).

Why are Disruptor and Naga so good?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 05:13 AM PST

I saw Newbee picking them alot so I checked on some other chinese games and in the DAC china qualifier everyone is picking them.

It seems like all the chinese teams are picking these two heroes. They are trying to get both as a support combo but they also pick both of them as single good pick. Why are these two heroes and this combo so good? And which chinese team started it? Newbee?

So I'm one the worst Dota players in the world...

Posted: 04 Feb 2018 08:18 PM PST

Played first competitive games this weekend and went 6-4 and am now 283 MMR. I'm not sure how it is possible to be that bad but I guess I am. I love to play this game so I will get better and not give up, but gotta say it's pretty discouraging to find out that you are most likely one of the worst players in the world. I don't even know where to start, but can someone just give general tips on how to improve, as I am so bad I don't even know what side I'm on when I play. I play Lich, Faceless Void and Juggernaut. I know it is bad to just ask for tips and put a dotabuff with no specific questions but there a likely a multitude of things I am doing wrong and not one specific thing. I guess I can only get better now, quite literally. Any lending hand is appreciated to help me crawl out of this shithole. Thanks .

I need help roaming.

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 06:27 AM PST

I am 3.9k mmr, and have had a ton of success with pos 2,3,4,5. But, I feel that as a position 4 roamer, I do not have the Impact that I should. I have had success with it untill now, but not close to as much as the pos5, pos 3 or pos 2. As the pos 5 it was easy, start in safelane or mid, harass the enemy, go to safelane and pull 2 or 3 times, take the runes, get a level advantage for carry, get wards when needed, get items like forcestaff and glimmer to help team, and basically win that way. I had amazing success with it(90% winrate from 3.5k to 4k). Mid was also pretty easy, try to win my lane, afterwards push and farm, fight if needed, get towers, get advantages and then win. Pos 3 was also really easy, try to contest lane as much as I can, take all of their supports and reasources, once im strong enought to help others go help them, then win since they have 4v2 and i took the rest of the enemy heroes. The problem is with pos 4:

In the first minute or so, a lot of times I will be useless. I want to harass the enemy mid and get my mid an advantage? cant since he is like 200 units from the tower. Want to go offlane cant since they are 3 heroes. Want to go safelane? Thats my only option, so i go there, if i get a kill thats good, but if I dont, he uses some regen, and comes back, he doesnt mind me being there, since I am not going to mid or offlane. He will anyway get like 2-3 levels and then manage to contest lane. So I spend my first 3-4 minutes around safeflane and mid, trying to do what I can, and ussually manage to build an advantage. Problem is, xp is really hard to come by. Kills give almost no xp, bounty runes give almost no xp, only thing that gives xp is lane, but if i take xp in lane then I am not being useful, and I am soaking xp. So it ends up that im ussually level 4 when the first tome is in stock, while the other support is level 6. I end up very starved. Obviously a lot of times my gameplan works out, we kill offlane like 2-3 times, I get good rotations off to mid, I get my urn/boots early on, im doing really well and we win. But thats the "perfect 20 minute free farm game" that anyone is looking for. How do I get xp when my game is NOT going well, how do I get XP when im not netting 7+ kills in the first 10 minutes. How do I help my offlane when I cannot be aggressive since they have 3 heroes(e.g earth spirit or tusk) etc.

Any noob leagues/tournaments?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 12:29 AM PST

I remember a few years ago some awesome lads created and organized a league made for complete noobs to feel what it is like to play competitive. I was wondering if anything like that is happening anytime soon?

I am having a tournament with friends and it is gonna be 2 v 2 mid. So I was wondering what do you think could work well on paper.

Thanks for helping me achieve this :D

I was a 2.8k-3k SEA player. One day I decided to play safelane and my teammate picked a safelane carry as well and I let him take all the farm. After 5 mins, he went AFK and didn't abandon. I got really pissed, abandoned the game and eventually got LP.

Then I stopped playing and started learning. I watched many videos of Rawdota and Road to Reformation, read many tips & guides in /r/learndota2 and started to change my mindset of the game. Created a new account and started applying those things especially MAP AWARENESS and the final result I got was 3.5k max calibration.

I was matchmaked against legend[2-5], Ancient[0-3] and once against divine players but I somehow managed to maintain a win rate of 75% by playing POS 1 and POS 4/5.

I made this post because I wanted to express that the way I played Dota changed completely when I started looking at the MINIMAP a lot more often. CALM DOTO BEST DOTO (muted all incoming chat)

What is the point of playing offlane heroes like tide/pit lord/omni if my teammates lose their lanes every game?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 04:28 PM PST

I'm 3.6k mmr, legend 3 player, I mainly play Timber, which can carry the game very often in my bracket as the offlaner, but recently I started playing offlaners like Tidehunter and Omni, but I just lose every game. I can win my lane very often, being 1 or 2 levels ahead of their carry, even when it's a hard lane, but my other lanes always lose, and their fed heroes just extend the game longer so that their carry can farm. Last game I was omni, they had three heroes camping the safelane, trying to kill me. I died twice in lane, but it wasn't a big deal, I still got alot of xp and contested alot of their Luna's farm. The problem was, My safelane and mid loses as usual, and gives the Luna time to farm as their other heroes just rape my teammates. What is my problem? How do high level offlaners win games if sometimes it is highly dependent on the outcome of their other lanes?

(Replay Commentary) How to play Crystal Maiden support

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 01:06 AM PST

https://youtu.be/yLgc-w70x3g

Throughout the video, I basically went over what difference you can make as a Crystal Maiden support in this patch. She is playable. I think it is okay to stay in lane soaking up experience from your carry to hit level 2. Pull and double pull if you need to level up. You shouldn't worry that much about maintaining the lane equilibrium by yourself. CM is a horrible lane support that does very little right click dmg to pressure the enemy offlane. You will most likely need help from the other support to do this. Therefore, your mindset should be, do everything you can to help your carry, but priortize on hitting level 2-3 by yourself. After that, you have options to smoke gank mid, roam around the map, farm jungle, set up kills in lanes, etc.

I mentioned a lot of things about Crystal Maiden to my best knowledge in the video. It can be helpful to you if you'd like to know what's going through my mind at every stage of the game. This was solo RMM, around 5k MMR bracket in SEA server. Any feedbacks always appreciated.

Cheers.

How to predict Axe's Culling Blade threshold effectively?

Posted: 04 Feb 2018 10:55 PM PST

I'm having trouble landing Mogul Khan's ult. I end up hitting it when the enemy's health is above the threshold and in many cases, it's painfully close. Other than practice, practice and practise, how can I instinctively or visually know it's time to hit the ult?

I’m a complete noob. Where can I find tips that are very basic?

Posted: 04 Feb 2018 10:33 PM PST

Right now, I'm getting utterly destroyed every match. It's honestly reaching the point where I'm slowly losing the desire to learn how to play. Every game I get matched up against people with anywhere from 500-1000 wins/games played while I have played a total of 15 games (5 being bots). They completely wreck me, the two wins I've got where just luck because my team carried me. I've played Smite (I know), so I kind of have a faint idea of the game but still. This is a whole new ball game though, and I'm struggling to pick up on it. Where can I find help with farming in the lane and stuff of that nature?

Did they change the tower aggro in the newest patch? I can't seem to reset it with A clicking.

Posted: 04 Feb 2018 11:52 PM PST

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I think asking in /r/dota2 would just result it in being lost through all the memes and everything.

In the last couple of games I couldn't seem to reset the tower's aggro by pressing a and clicking on my creep or teammate and ended up taking a lot of damage in many cases where in before it could have just been avoided easily. Did anything change? Thanks in advance.

Why do people pick mid-lane hard carries?

Posted: 04 Feb 2018 10:29 PM PST

So in the title, why do people go mid with hard carries like PA or PL, they're probably the two most common examples and how to deal with them?
