Sign Ups for Heroes Lounge Season 6 are now OPEN!

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 09:45 AM PST

The European amateur league of Heroes Lounge is opening its doors again for its 6th season! Sign ups will be open until February 25th at midnight before the season officially starts on March 12th.

Regardless of ability, from Bronze to GM, whether you have a team, a partial team, or want to sign up as a Free Agent, everyone is welcome. If you are interested just head on over to https://heroeslounge.gg and sign up. Last season over 170 participated, and we hope to make season 6 the biggest one yet!

If your team has already competed in a previous season, just open up "Team Management" under your team page, and click the button for your participation.

For those who might not know Heroes Lounge, or what we do, we are a league for anyone who wants to experience Heroes of the Storm in a competetive setting. If you don't have a full team, or are just an individual who wants to participate, we find a team of players for you that match your ability as best as possible. All of our teams are then seeded into 5 divisions in order to give everyone involved the best possible experience. Each week, each team is given a Bo3 match to play at a time that best suits you. This means that even the busiest schedules can have the chance to play.

If you have never experienced Heroes of the Storm in a team based, competetive setting, I truly reccomend you give it a go. As /u/khaldor put it, its "Heroes of the Storm, the way its meant to be played".

If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask, and feel free to head on over to our discord for discussions, nice people, and of course Endless. Sloth. Memes.

Hope to see you there in Season 6!

Brightwing skin - Toquinho

Some of you who have seen my work may know that I started making concept skins to keep my mind busy when my buddy was sick. He recently passed away and my heart is still broken so I made this little tribute to him and wanted to share with you...

Hope everyone can wish him a happy afterlife until I reach him again...

edit: just to make it clear, I used the WoW's corgi model as base

How HotS helped me cope with suicide/depression

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 05:18 PM PST

Hey guys! I've never really used reddit apart from lurking/seeing news and such but today I felt like writing something even if no one get to read it, but anyhow...

I've been playing HotS since closed beta, i've always been a huge Diablo/Warcaft fan and seeing Tyrael and all those crazy characters that I love and grew up with was like a dream come true. I'm playing since them and dropped other MOBAS (used to play Dota2 a lot at the time) and I LOVE it.

For the past few years I've been fighting clininal depression but I learned how to live with it so it was nothing major. However, in the past year or so my life has taken a major shitstorm, lost all my friends, financial problems, a 7 year relashionship break-up and to top it all my mom who was my last beacon of hope turned out to have cancer.

After all that, I just stopped playing everything (which I played a LOT), stopped watching movies/series/reading/working out and all these things. But for some reason I never got tired of this game. Almost everyday I hop in, play a few matches, have fun and forget about all this messed up stuff. Just leveling my favourites, learning new builds/situations, unlocking stuff, meeting new people... it's amazing! And it helped SO much, just a little distraction in the middle of a storm like this helps so so SO much. Everyday I still fight so much to just survive, but this game keeps making me smile and have fun and I would like to thank everyone that is part of this amazing comunity and the developers of this game. Every month waiting what is the next hero (and when my dear Imperius is going to get in the game...), the events, the patches, how the game consistently changes, sorting things out in the game and updates is something I look forward to and helps a lot.

I know i'm rambling but I felt like I needed to let it out somehow, but i'm not that good with words. But once again to everyone that works in the game/plays it or just discuss it here on Reddit... thanks, guys!

I knock your opponents away, I block them with my body, but that last turn around auto attack on an enemy with >80% health is simply irresistible. Alas

https://imgur.com/a/mAPBk Dear Blizzard, I have reached Murky to 300 level in all these years. Love the hero design in this game so much. Would there be a chance for the translation between the heroes interaction? Please say hi to the voice actor for me, his voice act had been with me all the gaming time, big pleasure it was :) Thank you K66 KR server

What Shroud thinks of HOTS

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 12:13 AM PST

Artanis could use a marker on his health to better indicate when his passive kicks in.

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 02:45 AM PST

Some talents that require you to stay above a certain % of health tend to add a marker on your healthbar to show you when you're above said cap. Stuff like [[Ruthless Momentum]] and [[Live and let Live]] benefit a lot from that tiny triangle on the health bar to give extra info - and I think so would characters like Artanis and Raynor, which have passives that trigger at a certain health threshhold, and getting that marker added would be a nice quality-of-life change, I believe. That is all.

Completely new version of heroes.report out!

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 10:54 AM PST

Many hundreds of hours have gone into redesigning heroes.report, which now has the following new features:

Complete player histories from HOTSApi uploads When you load a player's data, all of their replays in extremely condensed form are unpacked and loaded, and then you can use this to view a ton of stats from them (including win rates over time and by a given stat graphs and distributional graphs), as well as filter them in many, many different ways (for example by choosing who was on the opposing or ally team). When you filter through them, the graphs and stats change accordingly.

A more responsive, quicker site I rebuilt the site from the ground up with React, and it is now a lot more responsive. This is especially true for switching between stat types (Overall Stats, Sustain, Death, etc.) on the main page.

A prettier talent calculator I dropped my copy of the StormSpy talent build graph on the hero page, improved the talent calculator's appearance, and added a bunch of aggregate stats as well as match-up tables, both of which can be clicked to make many different graphs on the fly. There are even standard error bars on the win rates graphs for heroes by build.

Here is my Patreon link. I am many, many hundreds of dollars in the red just from server costs alone - I hope the community is able to throw support behind the sites being put up around HOTSApi and not just behind HOTSApi, because the api, while great, is more or less just a replay repository and there many ongoing costs and time involved in running your own site and database. My continued work on the site is not in expectation that it will ever pay itself off, but every bit of support is appreciated (and the lack of support shown in general shows how little people really want to support the development of alternative stats sites - hotstat.us, despite being well designed and a great site, has $2 per month in donations at the moment, and my site has $8. This is in spite of so many posts over the years calling for more stats and an alternative to hotslogs).

So check it out, and let me know what you think.

Why am I enjoying Alarak announcer so much?

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 03:41 PM PST

Just played one of the most terrible games in a while. It was not a 16 vs 13 steamroll, it lasted for quite a time, but our team was inferior in every way possible. Meanwhile, enemy Stitches and Artanis turned out to be some pro material.

I got super tilted from the very start and the only thing that kept me from unleashing that toxic storm against my team was my own death counter (10 deaths as Kelthuzad, and my hero dmg was not worth it). Not like my teammates did much better, but according to stats I was the weak link. I usually stay calm even when losing, but this one really got me.

And when the game was finally over, my Alarak announcer throws this "Is your blood boiling? Good." line in my face. Never heard it before. But it was so well-timed. If someone real tried to do the same "you mad bruh" thing, it would trigger me even more, but hearing this from Alarak actually had the opposite effect.

And now I'm thinking, what's so special about this announcer? Why people are enjoyiong it so much? I mean, it's not only about that constant sarcasm and humiliation, right? Is there something else to it?

Why is Heroes of the Storm considered a 'casual' MOBA?

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 07:43 AM PST

I've heard this a lot, especially from League of Legends and/or DOTA players. It doesn't bother me too much, and even I have defined it this way when discussing it.

However, what exactly differentiates it from a 'serious' or 'competitive' MOBA?

Garrosh's talent description for Mortal Combo (level 16) still says, "pulled targets," referring to the original Groundbreaker pull mechanic.

EU lag spikes or DoS?

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 11:04 AM PST

I just logged in to a HL game. My entire team lagged like crazy since the beginning, for 14 minutes. Teammates also DCed due to the lag (most of the time the lag was about 400-600ms).

Enemy team seemed OK, they even BMed us, so it seemed like their connection was fine.

edit: Apprently enemy team also experienced lags

Did anyone else encounter it?

If you lose any of your first 5 Hero League placement matches....

Posted: 17 Feb 2018 10:51 PM PST

There is really no point in continuing playing Hero League if you are trying to climb the ladder. You are honestly better to wait until next season and to try again with how many games it may take to get back to where you were the last time you played.

Your initial games swing EXTREMELY wild as far as placement goes.

I did a little test with 4 of my accounts who were previously master accounts two-three seasons ago. All pretty similar mmr when I quit the game (based on hotslogs mmr of all uploaded games.)

I played ZERO other modes (on these accounts) except for HL to keep it as pure as possible.

  • 1st account. Won first 3, lost 1, won 5, lost last one - Diamond 5

  • 2nd account. Lost first 2, won 3, lost 1, won 4 - Plat 1

  • 3rd account. Won first 8, lost last two - Master 1000

  • 4th account. Lost first 4, won 4, lost 1, won 1 - Plat 5 (200 points to demotion).

This placement system is wack; especially if you are just coming back to the game after taking more than a season off (as the game requires you to play at least 15 games from the previous season to pull initial mmr.)

The one piece of advice I can give: Play your very best heroes on your first 5 games, or risk dropping several ranks.

Blaze QoL Change

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 12:12 PM PST

While playing with/as Blaze, I've had problems getting out of the Bunker, and finally figured out why. Currently, you need vision of the area your mouse is over to exit the bunker, even though all your mouse determines is which side of the bunker you get out on. That can make it far more annoying than it should be to get out on a specific side if there's a wall near it, heavily limiting the area you can click, even though it wouldn't place you in a different spot if you had vision.

Would be far easier to just let it work regardless of vision and just go towards your mouse. There might be some issues with going over walls or something if you bunker in a cramped area, but if that could have happened with vision either way, it seems like the kind of bug that should already be patched out or embraced into a feature. Also, you can currently flamethrower for vision and then hop out either way, so this change shouldn't make much of a difference.

I've posted this before, but it was on a weekday morning, so I feel it didn't get as much traction as it could have.

Insane lags out of nowhere

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 08:29 AM PST

Blizzard, what is going on my man? Why are we having random lags out of nowhere? Happened to my hero league games 4 times in the past 3 days. The game starts okay and somewhere in the middle it starts to lag like crazy for my entire team. Happened just now, my whole team disconnected 20 times and it felt like we were in the matrix. That didn't seem to be the case for the enemy team, as they pretty much destroyed us. Zul'jin solo-ed 3 of us, while we were too busy chillin' in the matrix, deciding red or blue pill.
Are your servers being DDoS-ed? Did someone spill alcohol on the servers? Are we gonna be reimbursed?

PS. Someone on my team said "lag hack" used by the enemy team like in "league of legends", more info on that anyone?

Don't say "I'm done with this game anyway, XD" especially in winnable situations.

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 04:19 PM PST

A little rant post. We were dominating early game, apparently we had a 'GM Valla who got reset into Diamond 4 this season'. As we enter the late game (they have Chromie), they begin a nice comeback and eventually gets down to 2 keeps vs 2 keeps. Of course, Valla begins crying how we are all diamond scrubs and how she is done with this game. Its on Volskaya Foundry, enemy gets protector, but decided to push keeps instead of going for our core, I say "they are dumb, we still have a chance to win this, focus the heroes on their backline, then kill protector, its only chance". Valla immediately gets caught outside our wall and is blown up. "I'm done with this game anyway, XD", she says. The 4 of us, somehow manage to get the kills on 3 of their members BEHIND the protector, then kill the protector and end the game.

TL;DR: Don't give up, and don't tilt your team mates, because there is always a chance the enemy team messes up and you can capitalize on it. /endrant

McIntyre Dragonstrike

[SUGGESTION] When clicking onto enemies who subsequently vanish into the fog of war, can our heroes still approach their last known position, instead of just immediately stopping in place?

Posted: 18 Feb 2018 02:26 AM PST

This is one of the few "qualities of life" that I still enjoy in DOTA 2 and find strangely lacking in HotS; whether my target is a creep who dies or just a hero who disappears behind a corner, it's nice for me to be able to glance around the map at enemy health bars etc. and know that my hero is still moving all the while without me clicking that entire time, instead of needing to micromanagement their movement just that little extra bit

I know it's not a huge deal for people used to the HotS system, but my time in DOTA has conditioned me under the mechanic to the point where it definitely affects a gank or two of mine per game, at the very least :\

If this feature already exists and is just an option I have to turn on, I apologize for the redundant post; if anyone could point me to the setting in question, it would be greatly appreciated

Cheers all

Edit: As cited below, DOTA 2 already touts the feature I'm describing here, and yet elite jukes such as this one are still very much possible in that game
