Let's talk about Low Effort Images Posted: 15 Feb 2018 11:44 AM PST Image posts on /r/HearthstoneOur subreddit has always been conflicted when it comes to image posts. Some feel that images are so easy to read and upvote that they naturally drown out more traditional discussion posts, while others feel that a subreddit as generic and large as /r/hearthstone should be a place where sharing funny or unique screenshots is encouraged. In our opinion, both of these camps are right, but finding the middle ground has been difficult. A few months ago we decided to start allowing images to be posted directly to the subreddit. This decision was made primarily for these reasons:
We decided that we would have a test run for a while and that we'd reflect on how images affected the subreddit at a later time. Well, that time has come, and it's something we've been talking about at length lately. With this thread hitting the front page recently, now seems like a good time to share our thoughts with all of you. Throughout this trial period, our rules for image posts have been pretty bare and simple. You can't post literal memes and you can't post rage conversations. Other than that, as long as it was related to Hearthstone and otherwise appropriate, the image was allowed. Images weren't as much of a problem as video clips and text posts for a long time, so it seemed like we should try being lenient with images for a while. The problem that we've noticed, and all of you have probably noticed, is that many of these images really boil down to being inside jokes or one-liner jokes hiding behind an image. Either that, or the image is so mundane that it does not really merit its own post. This isn't what we want, and it's become clear that a lot of the subreddit doesn't want it either. On top of that, less exciting posts such as pack openings and personal achievements are something of a grey area that we want to address. Joke imagesWe'll start with the obvious, which is low effort jokes. This is a post where essentially the title is a setup and the image is the punchline. It might not always seem like it, but this style of posting is very common on larger subreddits (see /r/gaming as a prime example of what we want to avoid). We see this as extremely similar to one-liner joke posts, which we explicitly don't allow, and it's not something we want to continue. We believe that a screenshot of the game should display something about the game, rather than just showcasing an inside joke. In other words, if a screenshot of the game is posted to the subreddit, it should be showcasing something about actual gameplay. A unique board state, a rare victory, an unexpected outcome, and so on. The screenshot should tell a little story about the game that was played and should hopefully be interesting to discuss. On the other hand, sometimes a screenshot is just a funny moment in the game, and that's something we want to keep around. This isn't /r/competitivehs, we still want the subreddit to be lighthearted. Sometimes funny things happen and this is a good place to share it. A screenshot should not, however, just be the punchline to a joke. To try and fix this problem we have decided to make an addition to our Low Effort Content Clarification Page. Under the "Images" header, the following bullet-point will be added:
This means that screenshots of interesting board-states will still be allowed, but screenshots of the game that don't have anything to do with gameplay will not be allowed. For example, having a symmetrical hand, drawing patches, or playing a nerfed card are not going to be allowed. These things can be funny, but they really demonstrate what we mean by "low effort content". They stop other types of posts from getting a chance to be seen without adding much to the subreddit. Pack openingsWe are going to continue having a pack opening megathread for each new expansion, but now we're also going to have a weekly thread dedicated to pack openings. This is a place you should go to share your rare or interesting openings. Additionally, /r/hspulls exists and is a great place to show off. Personal accomplishmentsOften times someone will reach legend for the first time, get 12 wins for the first time, or reach some other sort of personal goal, and they'll want to share it with the community. This is not something we want to discourage, and we think that it's natural to want to bond over reaching goals. In other words, while posting an image that proves your accomplishment is relatively low effort, the discussion it encourages is the real content of the post. Moving forwardRules are always a work in progress. We want the subreddit to remain a general and open place for all things Hearthstone, but we don't want one type of post to dominate the subreddit just because those posts are easier to make and read. Some things that weren't problems with 300,000 subscribers suddenly become huge problems now that we're approaching 650,000 and we want to find solutions to these problems that don't make the subreddit suddenly a stale and boring place to be. As always, we'll keep an eye on how these changes affect the subreddit as a whole and we'll react as necessary. We hope that these changes end up being a compromise that allow images on the subreddit, but focus on images of interesting moments of gameplay rather than easily consumable jokes. Thanks for taking the time to hear us out, and let us know your comments or questions in the comments. [link] [comments]

6 packs instead of a microscopic chance at 3,000 is a much better deal. Can we pick that instead? Posted: 16 Feb 2018 09:26 AM PST I'd willingly opt out of the contest for the 6 packs. I believe most people would too. The contest is dumb and only a few people will win. Feels like a slap in the face to "compensate" other countries with 6 packs when 99% of us will get jack shit from this stupid contest [link] [comments]

How hard is it to put milled cards in history? Posted: 16 Feb 2018 01:03 AM PST Honestly, out of how many times I had to play and work around things without knowing I burned an important card, it's incredibly annoying.. please Blizzard, just add this.... [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Feb 2018 04:01 AM PST It's been one of my most favorite zones in world of warcraft ever since it came out, the entire underwater zone is ripe with beautiful aesthetic and i've always been a sucker for under the sea stuff. It would give a great platform for a lot of naga theme cards, just as this expansion had a lot of kobolds. AND it's got a tremendous ammount of lore to it that can be used, from candidates for legendaries like Mindbreaker Gu'ursha, Queen Azshara, and the father of all Kraken Ozumat, to name a few. However, another plus i think is that it's got enough not-fleshed-out lore in it to have a reasonable room for interpretation. I know it's controversial when Hearthstone strays from the beaten path character-wise but if it gets us amazing originals like Katherna and Alana, In tandem with established lore characters, then i personally am game. Thoughts? [link] [comments]

I have never been BMed with the Sorry emote compared to the Wow! emote Posted: 15 Feb 2018 09:05 PM PST When I lowroll and my opponent says "Wow", there's just something about it that annoys me. Back then when I lowrolled and my opponent said "Sorry", it actually felt genuine. I also liked how you could use sorry if you were afk and made your opponent wait. Can we please have our sorry emote back ? :S [link] [comments]
I will be so happy when Potion of Madness finally rotates out Posted: 16 Feb 2018 04:15 AM PST My most hated card overall. 1 Mana full of bullshit, especially in Arena! Playing deathrattles or poison vs Priest? "Thank you". Whats your most hated card, that rotates out in April? [link] [comments]

Just a reminder, we are extremly likely to get rotation/HoF announcements in 1 or 2 weeks. Posted: 15 Feb 2018 04:21 PM PST If you look at time of prior Hearthstone year/rotation announcements they both happened in first half of February. Here is the first time Blizzard created Standard/Wild, on 2/2/2016: https://playhearthstone.com/en-us/blog/19995505 And here is official announcement of Year of Mammoth, on 2/16/2017: https://playhearthstone.com/en-us/blog/20475356 With this in mind, expect to see New Hearthstone year news really soon :) [link] [comments]
