Should the flaming helmet return for H6?

Dear 343,

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 10:48 AM PST

I know you've been getting a lot of shit lately. A lot. And I know it's disheartening. Some of the point are valid (the storyline for 5 was an abomination, the fact that your fan base has to read books or comics to get what's going on in game, etc.). But don't let it get ya down. You've inherited a beloved franchise that people already held on a pedestal, and trying to continue what another company did must be very very hard. Contrary to popular opinion, I loved 4 (maybe not the ordinance drops). Killing off a main character was a ballsy move, and it was done really really well. The multiplayer was made to keep up with the times, new guns, enemies, vehicles, mechanics...it was amazing. Same with 5, the multiplayer (IMO) is amazing and rests solidly behind Halo 3 for my favorite multiplayer in the franchise.

Storywise, it was an abomination and the marketing for it was the most misleading thing I've ever seen for anything. Ever. I mean, when Trump ran for president, at least we knew what we'd be getting. But the art style, lore callbacks (for the stuff I read as a youth), animation...all of that was amazing.

I rely hope you guys don't fail on 6. Truly, I do. I have faith in you. I know that I'm nobody to you, and this probably won't be seen by anybody from 343, but I'm putting it out there anyway. I don't want you to fail, and I think there's potential. Truly I do. I love this franchise and think you guys are doing the best you can with your micro$oft overlords breathing down your necks.

Keep the faith, 343i. We're all counting on you.

Edit: I also just want to add that they've got more talent than I do. I couldn't do what they do even if I tried. I'm in awe at the level of talent it takes to come up with some of the stuff they've done, and I admire them for that talent.

One complaint about Halo 5’s armor that I haven’t seen being talked about. (It’s not black under suits)

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 06:22 AM PST

I've noticed many people talking about black under suits, and while 343 addressed this somewhat in Halo 5, we still don't truly have black under suits. In my opinion, one of the main gripes that I have with the armor in Halo 5 is the leathery look of the gloves and armor detailing. I miss the iconic black gel layer of Halo 3's armor. Having leather stitching on a futuristic super soldier just seems cheap, for lack of a better word.

Halo 5 as opposed to Halo 3

Just my two cents.

Are We Done With Halo Games That Have Actual Endings?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 07:46 PM PST

I finally picked up Halo Wars 2. I liked it for the most part, at least until I finished the campaign. "Finished" is a strong word. It just stops. Anders leaves abruptly for a cliffhanger, and the conflict with Atriox is nowhere near resolved. I feel a similar anger that I felt when I finished Halo 5. Why buy the game, why put so many hours into the story, if there isn't even a payoff? Atriox is not at all an interesting villain. The game builds him up in the beginning, but after that he does nothing to warrant showing up in another installment. Both this and Guardians have the same problem; they feel like stepping stones for advancing the mythos of a universe, without even attempting to invest me in the story or characters at hand. And if there's no climax to build to, I'm not going to be excited for the next one.

You can say Halo 2 had a similar problem, but at least Halo 2 had a climactic end. Both the Arbiter and the Master Chief score huge victories and reach inner turning points, and you feel like you're entering the third act of a trilogy. In HW2 and Halo 5, the games simply stop.

MCC after game credits

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 05:04 PM PST

Does anyone else really want 343 to add the end credits to the MCC. To me it just doesn't feel the same finishing one of the games and being kick right back to the main menu, sitting there and hearing the awesome end credit scores while you think back on the game you just finished is something i always love to do and i feel 343 should add this to the MCC.

A simple truth I’d like to make about myself and the pro-classic Halo community

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 09:21 PM PST

I'll be completely honest here, I like Halo 5's gameplay.

"Then why do you have a flair saying sprint is ruining Halo you purist?!"

Hold on, let me explain:

I find H5's gameplay to be extremely fun. I like the fast pace and the variety of movement abilities. The game is, overall, fairly smooth, modern, and a new spin on the franchise.

Here's the thing: I 100% completely understand that Halo 5 utterly and objectively fails at replicating a classic Halo game.

Besides even starts and shields, there is very little in this game that resembles the classic gameplay of old. Let me be clear: there is absolutely no objectivity in saying Halo 5 is a good game, or a bad game. That is entirely subjective. What must undoubtedly be acknowledged by the fanbase, however, is that Halo 5 barely resembles a classic Halo game in accordance to its core mechanics.

What does this mean? It doesn't mean that older fans want an objectively good Halo game. As I stated earlier, there is no such thing. What it does mean is that older fans want a Halo game that's, to them, actually a Halo game. Newer fans who prefer this new advanced direction, however, are opting for an experience that, quite frankly, doesn't stay true to Halo. This is why I sympathize with the pro-classic Halo crowd, even though I enjoy Halo 5. Changes to Halo should be based on the sandbox, not so much on the core mechanics that have been beloved for so many years. Halo deserves to be Halo.

EDIT: For those wondering how Halo can evolve without changing its core formula, I highly recommend watching this video here.

Something I didn’t realize I missed about Armor customization.

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 08:02 AM PST

Ok, so in Halo 5 Armor customization is weak and locked to two: a helmet and an armor set. This is disappointing and one of my biggest issues with the customization options available.

That aside though I went back to Reach recently and I realized the one thing that I really liked about customization there that makes no sense not to expand on at all: Helmet attachments.

Think about it, lots of the helmet lore already says "has this hardened port XYZ for ABC series attachments" the attachments themselves never have to be unique to the helmet (even if that was the intent sometimes in Reach) and just add a little more uniqueness to each one.
