Games That Are Awful But Interesting

Posted: 24 Feb 2018 07:53 PM PST

So everyone has a list of games that are amazing even if they have little nit-picking flaws about them. What about some suggestions for a list of games from the community (taking you all as an average, informed list of gamers) that are awful games, but that have interesting design aspects about them that make them worth suffering through? Games like Chaos Wars for the PS2 (worst voice acting of the era but with interesting combat), or Ultra Despair Girls for the Vita (fascinating storyline in the Dangan Ronpa universe, but painful, unwieldy combat)?

Everyone remembers the great games from every generation, but everyone also tends to remember that one game that was just... awful, too, but they get talked about a lot less than the great games.

Why aren’t there more games based on books?

Posted: 24 Feb 2018 07:28 AM PST

Obviously the two biggest examples of this are Metro and The Witcher, but why don't we see more? Sure, games like Bioshock and Spec Ops take inspiration from novels, but they aren't full-on adaptations by any means.

We see an insane number of movies adapted from books, often ones you don't even realize at first, but not many games.

I think games actually make more sense though. The length of a book is, for the most part, more in line with that of games than movies.

I understand that most literary fiction wouldn't lend itself well to becoming a game, although there could be some neat walking simulators there, but there's a lot of cool genre fiction that could really make great games. So why is it so rare?

Question about Joan of Arc

Posted: 25 Feb 2018 08:24 AM PST

I heard a rumor awhile back that Jeanne D'Arc was loosely based off of the life if Joan of Arc. Kinda like how Eternal Sonata is loosely based off Edward Chopins life. Is this true?

Also i heard that Fate Stay was also loosely based off Joan of Arc?
