I have a D2 vanilla and LoD key from the late 90's I have been playing since then. How can I get to use it in the B.net launcher without having to buy the game again?

It would be nice to play one of my all time favorite games without having to put a ancient CD into my drive every time.

[Diablo II] Items to farm in Normal/Nightmare?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 08:10 AM PST

I've been looking into drop chances on http://dropcalc.silospen.com/ and noticed that a number of good items have better chance to drop in Normal/Nightmare than in Hell.
* The Gull - Coldcrow (Normal)
* Magefist - Diablo (Normal)
* The Stone of Jordan - Andariel (Nightmare)
* The Oculus - Baal (Nightmare)
Do you know of any other good items that are better farmed on lower difficulties?
UPD (thanks /u/SaviousMT):
* Shaftstop - Mephisto (Nightmare); Diablo (Nightmare) is a close 2nd place
* Vampire Gaze - Baal (Nightmare); Diablo (Nightmare) is a close 2nd place

What is the best Diablo 2 Skill Calculator?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 07:24 PM PST

The D2Skills one is down, replaced with a .ru site. Is the latter legit? It's a shame that no one released an offline calculator.

Play Chinese Version of Diablo3 from US

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 10:41 PM PST

I spend a week playing D3 on China server, here's a short report

  • installation

rename battle net client folder.

download Chinese version of battle net client.

enter store and pay the game with Alipay, the payment part took me some time to complete, but this is not focus of this post.

install to different folder, this binary is different from non-Chinese version.

  • toon

HC seasonal DH.

no clan, no community, strictly solo.

I did played challenge as soon as eligible in order to gain resources.

  • first impression

As HC player, naturally I worried about quality of the connection, to my surprise the speed is good, ping bar is consistently green, but it does get yellow from time to time, average once per hour at most. throughout last couple of days of playing, I was disconnected once.

  • exp buff

Since I'm new to China server, earning platinum coins is pretty easy at beginning, so I decided to buy 7 days 25% exp bonus, I reached P575 after 50 hours. However, according to Chinese BBS post, this 25% does not apply to greater rift, it works for killing mobs, I didnt test myself.

  • stash

I need backup gears and backup toon as most HC play does, so the initial 5 tabs ran out around p400, I spent 2nd 2K coin on a tab, see the short video of Chinese store https://youtu.be/mhs8iXNmhz4

  • coins

you can earn coin pretty fast as brand new player, there are plenty rewards come with platinum coins, 7500 to according to BBS post, in addition, you can earn for daily play, first boss kill, first gob kill, first bounty earn you 25 coins, each boss kill gives you couple of coins, sometime 3 sometime 10. I uploaded 2 videos for demo,

https://youtu.be/VaZwnNE-PZo

https://youtu.be/_erIKYqf8W8

update: I encountered coin goblin in very early game, it drop platinum coin, but amount was small because low level difficulty and low level game, havent see another one ever since.

  • other impression

item drop doesnt feel any different, couple of ancient, one useless primal ancient. what bothers me is that havent see a single gift yet.

there are more players online in communities compares to US server, but dont know the experience there.

top builds are the same.

paragon level is close or just over 3K amount top ranks.

edit: formatting

edit2: adding other impression, coin goblin

[Speculation] What I want to see out of a Diablo 4.

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 10:23 AM PST

First, I'm going to start with the disclaimer that I'm mostly going to keep this to generalities, rather than specifics. Or rather, I'm not going to argue about which classes need to be in the game or what weapons. That's not the point. The point is a list of ideas that should be captured by the game.

  • Freedom of builds. This is hard, but this means that gear should provide generalized bonuses more than specific skill-related bonuses most of the time, especially sets. If sets focused on providing elemental boosts and damage reduction rather than on boost specific skills, it would open up builds a lot.
  • Meaningful non-repetitive end-game activities. Not sure how to elaborate on that, but the end-game rifts are nice, but as we've seen, too prone to abuse.
  • The monetization should not be Pay to Win. As a community, we should just accept that there will be monetization. That's a given, so we need to move on from arguments about whether or not it's good or bad and move on to discussing--openly--what types of monetization we are willing to accept.
  • Game design and policing action designed to reduce all types of cheating, including botting and unauthorized add-ons. This touches on some additional points, and I'll note them as I get to those.
  • Blizzard-sanctioned UI addons. I have, in the past, come down firmly against TH usage personally, but with the caveat that Blizzard should have a UI addon API that allows for users to actually make their own UIs, and get information that is needed to play the game efficiently. This means additional early work on the engine to de-couple game logic from UI elements sufficiently to allow for a scripting language like LUA or some such. DPS counters and HPS counters and all such would be greatly appreciated.
  • Non-repetitive means of earning end-game materials. One of the biggest reasons people bot is bounties. Or rather, people bot because endless bounty runs suck your soul and are not fun for anyone. There are other reasons to bot, but this is one that is hard to ignore. Bounty materials are arguably a poor design choice as a mean of potentially obtaining upgrades (I'm not sure that's true--targetted upgrades are actually good design), but the means of obtaining them in meaningful quantities is a large time-sink. If one is willing to cheat (bot), then it gives a massive gear advantage in what is already a gear-based game. This means that rethinking how gear is obtained, upgraded and how the materials to do that are obtained.
  • Meaningful amounts of storage. I'm going to get called a hoarder on this, but it is an issue. Let's make some assumptions. There are 6 pieces to each class set, 7 classes, and 4 sets/class. That's 168 items to store if you want to keep one of each for different builds. Each stash tab holds 70 spots, but most items take 2 spots, so it's only 35 items per tab. If you have been really diligent about season journeys and bought the Necromancer, you might have 12 tabs. All of the set items will fit in 4.8 of those. Then one tab is typically used for all your gems of every type, and then you need one for jewelry that's worth keeping. Then you need a lot for class-specific legendaries that are build-worthy. All that aside, what is needed is a way to upgrade this. Anyone arguing that this takes an appreciable amount of storage on their servers has already lost my interest. I'm not arguing that everyone should be allowed infinite storage, but there should be constant in-game ways to earn additional storage, as well as the option to directly purchase more. And the initial storage should be generous. If you haven't seen it, the game Wolcen has a stash whose initial storage is enormous. It was surprising and welcome.
  • Meaningful game choices. This is tricky. The focus of the game is action, but in every respect, Diablo is a game where you can go ignore the story and kill things as long as you want and it has no meaning. The story is meaningless in relation to your character's growth. Only for a few key drops does killing the boss matter, and the way Diablo 3 is made the only real motivation to complete the campaign is to unlock adventure mode. Because the story doesn't matter and it is told poorly. I won't argue that the overall plot is poor, but the execution of that plot and the decisions made to reach the end of the story from the beginning are questionable at best. But at no point does anything you do matter. When you are told to 'hurry', it doesn't matter if you do or not. Ultimately there is only one path through the game. This is not role-playing, it is rail-following. Even World of Warcraft is more of a rail-following game than a role-playing game. Which is why in both games it is the end-game that mostly matters.
  • Better crafting options/more meaningful crafting options. As Diablo 3 stands there are only a handful of crafted items that are useful in the endgame. Reaper's Wraps, the crafted gear on a zdps necromancer, and a few other things here and there. IMHO, meaningful high-end crafted gear needs a few things to be viable. First it has to have player-unique required components (thus randomized when the player decides they want to start crafting the item), with specific difficult quests to obtain each, only able to be completed once you have the quest. Second, it has to be be time-consuming to create. Third, it has to be reasonably fair for players to obtain. Fourth, it needs to be worth the investment.
  • Continual development post-release.
  • Good communication to the community from the developers. Overwatch players love to complain about things, but they also love that Jeff Kaplan has been very interactive with the community. Diablo has never had that, but I think we'd all love it. Give us information, don't leave us in the dark.
  • Community input before the game is released. No, I don't think the community should design the game. I do think they should at least talk to us about the game and get proper feedback and show that they are listening.
  • Larger party sizes Let me play with 6-10 of my buddies. Please.
  • PVP.

That's what I've come up with for now, but I'm sure I'll think of others. I'm sure everyone will have opinions about portions of it, but mostly I'm curious: what are you hoping will happen with D4? Also, how many are hoping it goes MMO/RTS/Something else?

Checking leaderboard builds

Is there a way to check EU / Asia GR leaderboard builds being an NA player? There are links on official battlenet website but I'm not sure if the profiles were snapshotted at time of clear.
