He would honestly be the most terrifying killer in the game.

"Operation Health" for DBD?

Posted: 19 Feb 2018 03:39 AM PST

I feel comfortable enough speaking for just about everyone when I say that something needs to be done about the state of the game, and this Lunar Event seems to be the breaking point for a lot of players.

I suggest Behaviour follow Ubisoft's example in regards to postponing new content to work on the health of the game. In case you aren't familiar, Ubisoft ended up doing this for their game Rainbow 6 Siege. They delayed the planned DLC in order to take time and focus on fixing the top reported bugs in the game and server/matchmaking improvements. Here's a link to the graphic highlighting Ubisoft's "focus points" for the development team.

Something to note is that Ubisoft started breaking up their bug fixes into smaller batches. I think this is something Behaviour needs to do, because there seems to be just as many bugs introduced as there are fixed in each incoming patch lately. They should be pushing smaller patches out on PC, and then once those are determined as fixed with no other problems you can compile them into console patches. I say this as mainly an Xbox One player, as the console versions of DBD are in need of a lot of TLC. I would be willing to wait a couple weeks for a patch if I know the incoming patch will be worth the wait. I've played on PC and there are plenty of bugs, but the crashes on consoles have gotten out of control with this latest patch, when they were already horrible.

QA Improvement I think a big improvement could come from a more strict QA process. There needs to be a higher priority (if any) on QA testing the release builds and not just testing per feature before everything is compiled for push to live. In this latest patch there are obvious bugs that should not be in the game right now. I'm not sure what Behaviour's process is or what task system their QA team uses, but something needs to be reevaluated.

Roadmap I wouldn't mind getting a roadmap of the plans for the year for DBD, and I think the release of new DLC needs to be spread out more. There needs to be at least two months, maybe three, between chapter drops. This is for the following reasons:

  1. New content needs to feel important, especially when it changes how the game is played, and the closer together you release these chapters the more insignificant each one feels.

  2. The new chapters need to feel well-balanced and bug free.

  3. If you want to release the console DLC at the same time as the PC this would allow you to continue that trend, but with much more stable versions.

A roadmap or some sort of milestone dates given to the public I think would help the dev team stay transparent with the community. If it's something the publisher allows.

There may be a dip in player numbers if Behaviour decides to postpone new content, but I think it would be completely worth it for the longevity of the game. They could also include in-game cosmetics for those who play the game during this break in content as a reward for their patience while the game is being improved.

/rant

I'm just a fellow game dev, and I love DBD but worry about it's future at times as it seems to be acquiring a horrible reputation for acquiring more bugs than it fixes in its patches. This is just my two cents.

TL;DR Behaviour should employ their own "Operation Health" like Ubisoft did for Rainbow 6 Siege last year; to delay the release of new content in order to improve the state of the current game and, hopefully, increase the longevity of Dead By Daylight.

QoL: Always show what add-ons you have on your equipped item

Posted: 19 Feb 2018 09:23 AM PST

As a survivor, I often run Ace in the Hole because hoarding is fun. That means I constantly have to put down the first item on the ground to see if there was an add-on or not. Why not let the add-ons be displayed next to the item in question all the time?

This goes for killer addons as well, some of us are forgetful

The best way to fix camping...

Posted: 19 Feb 2018 05:52 AM PST

...is to do nothing to the killer. Camping is a terrible way to play, and is bad for the killers if the other survivors do gens instead of just rushing to the hooked player. No matter what you do, people will camp, mostly new killers, but they will do it. The way you fix is is to reward blood points for players that are hooked when gens pop, or in a chase.

The main complaint about camping is that once you're camped, that's it. If you are a survivor and get camped your game is over, and it sucks. The problem is, you are still playing. While the killer is sitting there watching you, he's not hunting other players. You're distracting him, and should be rewarded. I propose that if you are hooked and within 20 meters of the killer and a gen is popped, you get bonus blood points and points in the Boldness catagory. That way your game isn't ruined if you get camped in the first 2 minutes. The other survivors don't feel compelled to run blindly and let a bad killer camping get 2-3 kills because you keep getting hit, and punishes the killer because in the amount of time for someone to die, you can get 3-4 generators if everyone plays well.

Edit: Note, this is for people who camp at the start of a match. When killers down someone 2 minutes into the match and stands their smelling their breath until they die. Camping late game happens, and sometimes it's the only choice a killer has, but this isn't talking about that. Besides, if all 5 gens are done, you aren't helping your team by being camped, at that point it's up to them to save you or let you die. You've already done the objectives and played the game. This whole idea is to keep people from camping in the beginning.

Is Gen-Tapping cheating?

Posted: 19 Feb 2018 04:53 AM PST

The other evening, on Mother's Dwelling, I was playing normally, not being a dick to the killer, just trying to fix my lunar gens to get my coins.

The killer was a P3 Hillbilly, and ran Ruin, which is fair enough. Whenever people run Ruin, I just gen tap until somebody finds the totem, or until all gens are done. I got downed by the Billy, which I was cool with, I acted stupidly and stayed on the gen for too long. But he hooked me, and then facecamped me. Literally stood directly in front of me, meaning there was 0 chance of escape.

I died, then messaged him "why?". No salt, no rage, just asking why. Apparently, according to him, gen-tapping is "glitching", and I needed to be "punished" for it.

I believe it's utter bollocks, and told him as such, but what does everybody else think?

Good patch, good bugfixes, and YES, ANOTHER BUG!

Skillchecks have NO SOUND right now, aswell as hitting survivors, the sound is lost, only thing you hear is "AARGGHG" from the survivors!

If you want to kill this game, just fucking do it, don't release new bugs every patch, buy a fucking QA team.

EDIT: Okay, the skillcheck sound is back after 4 or 5 games, tried in KYF and it seems just to be working with certain killers, the skillchecks sound when the killer is Trapper, Billy, Wraith, etc, but not sometimes when Myers, Hag or Doctor with Terror Radius addons.

As a new player whos been thoroughly enjoying killer learning in the low ranks, i now understand why i see so many people not wanting to play killer anymore.

Posted: 19 Feb 2018 08:55 AM PST

So as I stated I'm pretty new I have like no perks and mediocre add ons, but I learn quickly so I managed to rank up to around killer rank 14 in a matter of a few hours but still only level 15 on my nurse and it seems like no matter how I play I just get shit talked into the ground( yes some survivors here and there are chill and everybody has a good time) but for the most part I've had 2 different general experiences now that I'm fighting people with far far superior perks than me. Either A. I play how survivors want, endure pallet loops and flashlights for days finally get a hook and run off the repeat the process again, and inevitably I maybe get a pic or just lose because I don't have the tools to deal with it but that doesn't bother me, what bothers me is I almost always get met with the bm of " lol easy, get good, you suck ECT ECT ECT" so I played how survivors want killers to play and I get flamed. Now option B. I use the frowned upon strats of camping and patrolled in an attempt to get any fucking points to level my character up, now obv again I get flamed so hard for trying to get some points while again getting looped and flashlight spammed in the process. I just don't understand what I'm supposed to do I feel like it's a lose lose no matter how I play most survivors feel compelled to tell me I shouldn't play. Ofc I'm going to continue playing I enjoy the game but goddamn it so many survivors make it there mission to strip all fun from the killer.
