Smite - A Letter from Mythic to the Smite Community

A Letter from Mythic to the Smite Community

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:53 PM PST

HeyGuys,

Co-Owner of Mythic here. There's a lot of misinformation circulating about us, Matty, our intentions and how our presence is/would have affected the Smite community.

For those of you who aren't aware of our presence in the CS:GO scene, we've changed quite a bit for the better. So here's a quick bio about us that is pretty important to understand why HiRez may have chosen us for an SPL spot: The CS:GO roster (including myself and the co-owner, @fl0mtv) is a group of former/recent CS:GO professional players that all focus on making content and streaming full-time while competing. We pay our players, we promote our players, and we support each other's growth both as content creators and as players. It's something maybe you haven't seen before in esports on the side of livestreaming. We stream all of our practice, all of our matches, and our casual games. Most of the time if we're streaming, we're streaming as part of a group. This has been a boon for the revival of CS:GO on Twitch, where most exclusivity rights belong to YouTube Gaming. Our channels for the most part have grown exponentially. That said, what we actually do has given us a bargaining chip. It's no surprise that any game dev would immediately show interest. Now... imagine Smite growing on Twitch, becoming more popular, catalyzed with the new season of SPL. Five players on a roster, streaming the good stuff. This, I have to assume, is why we were even considered for a spot in SPL.

Now, onto the "drama." First of all, I'm new to Smite. My girlfriend (ZombiUnicorn) first introduced me to the game and several HiRez employees around GamesCom this past summer. Fl0m and I got the privilege to meet some pretty stellar people from HiRez and after spending some time with them, we issued them some respect for the game and the scene that we felt was deserved. So we tossed our hat into the ring for SPL. That's it. Whether there were people behind the scenes pushing for us more than others is of no consequence to me personally. However I understand in this age of collusion and shady activity that anything that is kept hidden and leaked without all the facts it will almost always look bad. I think I speak for every fan of Mythic on Twitch when I say this was something we were excited about, anxiously awaiting the announcement.

But let's clarify some things:

If HiRez offered Mythic, a near brand new org, a spot in SPL OVER another team, I have zero knowledge as to that end of the controversy. The "why" of Rival not being included in SPL is not my business but in any case I will say that I feel for them. I wouldn't want my players suddenly without an org. I genuinely feel bad.

But since I'm feeling pressed to state WHAT it is we can offer, here's the bottom line: We can offer content, individual growth financially, individual sponsorships, stream support, Smite brand awareness, focus on a single (and only other) team and make sure the players are ACTUALLY being promoted--rather than just copping a retweet or two on a slow Sunday. We're players ourselves, we've been screwed over, downtrodden and disrespected by many orgs STILL around today in esports at the behest of "business." From day one we have stressed the importance of a players happiness over lining our own pockets. For us, running an org is a near non-profit enterprise.

Our first reaction to today's controversy had us doubting whether or not it was worth entering a community that wasn't welcoming at all to us. Suddenly with accusations flying toward Mattypocket and the org I finally found myself on the deep end of the "bad guy" spectrum. Which, to some orgs may be bad for business, but to me it's a strike against my values as someone who has competed professionally across many games for nearly 14 years. Which is funny, because Mattypocket doesn't have any sort of stake in Mythic and yet he appears to be taking the beating stick of Reddit over all of this.

We just finished practice. I'm tired. But I'm here to apologize for what appears to me to be just bad information perpetuated by people who have no idea what or who was involved, and to introduce ourselves.

That said, we've decided not to enter the SPL on the grounds of "controversy," which we have not discussed with HiRez yet. I thought it was still important that we said Hello, even if the Goodbye comes just as quick. Best of luck to you all, I hope the community will grow regardless of our presence.

In the name of esports,

LeX and fl0m, Owners of Mythic.

This has NOT been confirmed, but is being discussed on Twitter.

EDIT 1: Tweets from Rival's co-owner:

We want to be respectful to our friends at HiRez. We had a great time at worlds and amazing success in Smite.

A couple of rumors to debunk;

  1. Rival has $$. We pay our players. Always have.
  2. Our players loved us.
  3. We've played at the top of PUB and Smash, not just Smite.

Why didn't you guys stay in Smite?

We had no choice - we found out a few days before worlds.

Zhong Qui's animation for Book of Demons (3rd ability) is way to long for what its worth.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:57 AM PST

I believe his animation really needs to be shortened because the stun is so short they are up and moving again by the time the animation is done.

Skin Concept - Anti-Poaching Ranger Ganesha

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 12:00 PM PST

The United Nations estimates that each year over 30,000 African Elephants are killed due to illegal poaching brought about by a demand for ivory.

China, widely believed to be the world's largest consumer of ivory, both legal and illegal, played a major role in the yearly slaughter of some thousands African elephants by poachers.

However as of December 31, 2017, China's President Xi-Jingping shut down the Chinese ivory trade, a major win.

With that in mind I propose the most obvious skin for Ganesha to not only raise awareness of the dangers illegal poaching poses to wild elephants, but to celebrate the Chinese governments strong stance against it in 2018 - the Anti-Poacher Ranger concept.

Here's the idea:

Ganesha - guardian of the nature preserve - in full military olive green camo complete with a green beret and dark leather boots, belt and ranger gear and big, fully grown tusks. In his hands, a walkie talkie, a traditional African spear, and two other items. Like this

Skill 1 - Not much changes. Maybe change the animation to a big red circle with a line through it: No Poaching!

Skill 2 - Ganesha rises into the air but instead of "Ohm" he uses his radio to call for backup.

Skill 3 - No change. Ganesha charges forward and does his thing.

Ultimate - The four great pillars summoned now resemble the electric fences used to protect wildlife sanctuaries, think Jurassic Park: Fence

I can't draw to save my life but if anyone can bring this concept to life it'd be greatly appreciated. Also any input or changes are welcomed. I'd pay gems for it and maybe even some of the proceeds could go towards supporting the anti-poaching efforts, since Hi-Rez has done things like this in the past.

Feedback?
