I Always Play RRR

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 02:52 PM PST

Rough, Randy, Random. Random characters and random start, no rerolls.

This time I was doing single starting colonist, and he's incapable of violence. I'm hoping a wanderer comes along soon, and in the meantime I'm nearly dying of heatstroke in the swamp (too dumb for electricity construction) and being attacked by a raider (who my dog fought of somehow).

Wanderer joins finally. He's also a pacifist. Fuck.

Another few days, and we get a call. Somebody is being chased and needs safety. I've got a charge rifle, and there's no way I could hit three pacifists in a row, right? He'll be able to fight them off with the rifle.

Nope. Incapable of violence. Nice knowing you.

True selflessness is female Wild Boar 1.

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 01:50 PM PST

An escape pod landed nearby towards the beginning of the game. At first we thought we were lucky: A researcher with a 19 Research had landed.

Sure, he was an asshole who didn't get along with anyone. He kept propositioning the other villagers, was abrasive to others and was a general dill-weed except... Wow. That guy figured out how to make medicine, build guns and really propelled us into a brighter future.

What escaped our notice was the dependency on Luciferium.

At first, the researcher just wondered about sadly every now and then. But we chalked it up to low food resources and few clothes - we should have interrogated him more thoroughly when we rescued him. Instead we were too focused on clothing and growing food to make simple meals.

Finally, he was researching in his special research room when he just lost his shit. Our settlement only has a little terrier and a wild boar that self-tamed for animals. But the first thing that the enraged researcher did after he ran out of his room was to attack the first thing he saw: the boar.

Blood was flying everywhere. For a bare-fisted researcher, this guy was wailing on the boar. Things were looking bleak before two of our colonists noticed and ran over to see what was going on. It didn't take them long to put enough bullets into the researcher to get him to pass out.

So what does the boar do? Does it run to an animal bed and wimper? No. Female Wild Boar 1 dutifully turned around and picked up the researcher and hauled him to the medical clinic for attention.

I'm going to give female Wild Boar 1 a nice name and a soft fuzzy bed.

The researcher? I think I may lock him in the research room with a bed and a nutrient paste machine from now on.

If you are overwhelmed with this crazy complex game I think I may be able to help you out! I hope this is allowed to be posted on here, if not I will simply take it down. Have a good one, and happy rimming 😜

FIRE LINES

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 08:40 PM PST

I cannot stress how useful fire lines are.

I mean, fire happens. Lightning or whatever, sometimes it's unavoidable. But on a swamp or jungle map, that shit gets out of hand fast. Multiple times I've had all colonists working to fatigue and starvation, unable to put the fires out around the edge of the base faster than they creep in, and I lose it all.

Then one time I realized - Why not make a fire break?

Now, as soon as I see lightning strike? If it's outside of the base, and I won't be getting to it, first thing is to immediately cut a 3x strip in any and all plants around my base. In biomes where the plants grow back super fast, sometimes I have to make do with 2x, or even just a single tile, but the fires will still jump these and a dedicated pawn will need to put them out.

Most important is to identify quick natural barriers. Mud, shallow water, other plantless areas. Use these to form as much of your "wall" as possible, because time is of the essence - this is the 3rd firestorm I've saved my base from in a row since using this strategy.

In the Hospital

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 02:13 PM PST

My mom is in the hospital with a blood clot in her lung.

All I can think of is if I had the right doctor, a captured tribal and a few medical kits I could have her out of here in about 5 hours.

First time playing. Tamed a bear with human meat. Best game ever!

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 03:06 PM PST

I started with a vet with no skills outside medicine and animals. Shes been busy attempting to tame(almost) every animal I could find while nervously watching a bear wander around town. After our first raid I figured out how to butcher the body. Food started running low and one of my colonists fell sick from a boar attack. I was starting to get nervous but had some human meat going bad, so figured fuck it. IT ACTUALLY WORKED!!! I cant wait to see the look on the next raiders face when a tamed bear charges out.

Mod for "realistic" Rimworlds? i.e. less colonies, harsher environments.

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 07:25 PM PST

Pretty self explanatory. I'm looking for a way to make the world a little less populated- as it is now it doesn't feel like a harsh world on the outer rim with so many colonies/tribes.
