Why doesn't the shotgun shoot the instant you click?

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 06:10 AM PST

I've noticed that sometimes there is a delay between clicking and it firing, very small but just enough for the player to move out of your aim? Anyone else notice this? Are the shotguns server based or something?

PUBG Cheater Survey Results. [Last week’s poll]

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 07:24 AM PST

Original post

Last week I asked the community to take a quick survey about their experience with cheaters in PUBG. Over 4000 of you took the survey and I thank you for that. Here is some of the data compiled to give us an idea of what people are seeing. This isn't a very scientific survey for many reasons. Here are some of the larger issues that this little experiment faces:

  • This is not hard evidence of cheaters. It's a gauge to what players FEEL they have been seeing in their region. There are people who will overstate the amount of cheaters they think they encounter as an excuse for their poor play. On the other side of that, there are people who say they encounter no cheaters. That could be because they are low ranked and aren't matched with the cheaters that artificially inflate their rank. It could also be because they are really bad at identifying cheaters, or don't care to identify them. In my particular survey, people had a valid complaint that there was no 2-3% option and so they instead put 0% because it was the closest thing to their answer. This all has to be taken into account.
  • Respondents could take the survey multiple times. I wanted to allow this because some respondents could be playing on multiple regions with multiple experiences on different regions. This could have allowed people to vote multiple times to influence the survey results.
  • Respondents did not identify their ranking. The reason I did not add this question was because I did not want to deter people from taking the survey because they did not know their ranking. I also did not want people to guess their ranking giving me false information.
  • The final question of the survey that may have been the most important question is a little flawed. The question was, "What percentage of your games would you estimate have cheaters in them?". A better phrasing would be, "What percentage of your games do you feel you have encountered cheaters in?" While I still think that people answered according to the meaning that I intended, I feel it could have been asked more clearly.

All of the data that I collected is in this spreadsheet. Feel free to look through it and come to your own conclusions to share with the community. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LURlAt-RlK-TvZTpGKSpLkKMRnec1jVs0PCLxINyF54/edit?usp=sharing
Alright, done with disclaimers. Here are the results:

All Regions - Average Percentage of players that feel they encountered cheaters based on Perspective (First Person or Third Person):

First Person 13%
Third Person 28%

All Regions - Average percentage of players that feel they encountered cheaters based on game type (Solo, Duo, Squads):

Solo 16%
Duo 13%
Squad 21%

Percentage of their games that players alleged had cheaters in them by region:

Asia 24% 75 responses (very little data)
Europe 12% 1601 responses
Korea/Japan 32% Only 12 responses (very little data)
North America 22% 1872 responses
Oceania 31% 350 responses
Southand Central America 25% 59 responses (very little data)
SouthEast Asia 24% 45 responses (very little data)

The above set of information is not particularly helpful as it does not take into account what percentage of these regions are playing first person versus third or what game type was being played. I considered leaving it out, but then realized that it does have some value. Particularly when comparing NA to EU. If more NA players play TPP/Squads, and cheaters are rifer in TPP, then they are going to be affected more by the cheating. So it does have some value. Cheating is a bigger issue in NA mainly because NA players like playing TPP more than EU players.

To give the above data some more context, here is some information on what kind of data was collected from each region. What percentage of EU/NA plays TPP vs. FPP, and what game type:

European Players Surveyed:

First Person 67%
Third Person 33%
Solo 22%
Duo 35%
Squad 43%

North American Players Surveyed:

First Person 54%
Third Person 46%
Solo 24%
Duo 30%
Squad 46%

To compare apples to apples, I starting comparing perspective and game type between NA and EU. Here are the percentage of alleged cheaters based on NA/EU FPP Solo,Duo, and Squads.

Europe:

Solo 11%
Duo 10%
Squad 10%

North America:

Solo 11%
Duo 15%
Squad 15%

So even when comparing game types and perspective, Solo players are experiencing the same percentage of cheaters in both regions while NA Duo and Squad players reported having cheaters 50% more than EU players in FPP games. I'm too lazy to compare the rest of the regions, but there are so few responses that I don't know if it would be worth it.

Conclusion:

It's pretty clear to me that cheating is a big issue right now. The average person playing a squad game around the world thinks they run into a cheater in 1 of every 5 games. That's too much. What if all of the surveyors were half wrong? 1 in 10 games? Still too much. It's important for Blue Hole to note that a player that believes they were killed by a cheater and was wrong has the exact same effect on their bottom line as that player that knows they were killed by a cheater and was right. Either one can go to the pubg subreddit and look on the first page that is littered with recordings of cheaters to validate themselves, get frustrated, and stop playing.

Anecdotally, I feel like the aimbots have been less and less, but I've been seeing the recoil and autofire macros more and more. The worst part about it is that you used to be able to retreat to FPP to escape the cheating, but it seems like we don't have those options anymore. It would be nice to see Bluehole really buckle down and aggressively squash this stuff, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. It would be really interesting to see the data on their end.

Thanks for participating!

For an element that's supposed to be random why does the red zone repeatedly bomb the same area?

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 06:51 AM PST

Since the new map has been out I've noticed that the same areas get bombed over and over. Landing anywhere near pecado - I've watched the area be bombed 3-4 times in a row and that's insane to me since the map is huge. Do red zones just target high player destiny areas?

I feel like on the old map Erangel bombing feels much more spread out i haven't really noticed being bombed over and over even when landing at the apartments/school.
