For the longest time I've seen Minecraft this and Minecraft that and never saw the appeal. I tried a demo a couple year back and had no idea what i was doing. Finally gave it a good shake last week and I am HOOKED. Totally lost, but hooked.

Any good resources for beginners? I've googled but haven't yet found anything super helpful.

My big question is... How the heck do you decide where to build your home? You can only carry so much and I find it really hard to find my way home when I wander. Is there a way to mark your house on a map? Sorry if these are dumb questions but I was just so excited to be part of this now and wanted to reach out to others and find some friends who know the ropes.

New to Reddit, so starting things off with a short introduction and a showing of one of my builds.

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 02:02 PM PST

Not sure if this kind of post is allowed (at least, in this fashion), especially since I just joined Reddit today, but I figured I'd introduce myself.

I'm GreasyTroll4, an avid fan of Minecraft, and chiefly a builder. I thought I'd make my first post on Reddit here since Minecraft is one of my favorite games of all time ever since I started playing at the tail end of 1.7.10. This introduction also gives me the opportunity to show off my building skills to the rest of the MC community from the get-go.

A short introduction, I know, but it gets the job done I think (sorry if it seems a bit stiff).

And now, without further ado, allow me to introduce Raventon, a city I had built on a server a few months ago. It was my most prized creation. Although it was never finished, I did finish enough of it for it to be forever immortalized in my screenshots folder. (Sorry about the angles in some of the pics, my FOV is at 90. Also, all the terrain you see in the pics is 98% natural.)

Thanks for taking the time to read my introduction to Reddit! Hope to see you all soon!

Can we chill on Mojang please?

We seem to be doing exactly the thing that makes big developers act the way they do. You know, where they're radio silent on just about everything and then, when they do speak, they run everything through PR first.

Minecraft is a game in which villagers of no determined sex, who all look the same, mate with each other when fed potatoes. And the babies grow to adulthood in a matter of days.

In which there is an unexplained undead horde which magically appears at night.

In which one can step through a portal to not one but two alternate dimensions.

In which one can punch through the middle of a tree and see the top half remain in the air.

And we love it this way.

Now it looks as though the game will be updated to feature a new animal species which is treated differently to one or some of the other animal species. I'm never playing again!!

I don't care if one of the team contradicts themselves, like we all do from time to time. I do care if they have to start leaning on Microsoft for PR & legal advice before every tweet and become estranged from their community.

Anyone else misses the jockeys?

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 08:15 PM PST

Spider Jockeys and Chicken Jockeys have been gone from the game for over a year and a half now. A bug introduced in 1.9.4 prevents them from spawning in full. Spider Jockeys only spawn the skeleton and Chicken Jockeys only spawn the chicken. This is why you often see chickens wandering in the Nether. They are Jockeys that spawned without their passenger.

Not that it's actually breaking anything, but I find them cool, sometimes funny, sometimes a bit challenging. I miss not seeing Jockeys anymore, especially the Chicken Jockeys.

Since Mojang is in the middle of a major code refactoring and bugfixing spree, it would be nice to have these buggers back in 1.13.
