Why are Mojang suddenly so worried about animal cruelty? Posted: 11 Jan 2018 06:08 AM PST This is a game where since almost the very beginning, you get heavily rewarded for beating animals to death with your bare fist and later slicing them open with a sword. Yes you can go vegetarian in Minecraft, but it's always been the case that meat has been the best food. In this game, your best bet at surviving is killing cows, pigs, sheep and even RABBITS. Even as recent as 1.12, they added a mob that you can one-hit-explode by feeding them cookies. But as of late, there have been some very strange things popping up from Mojang. First, they stated outright that they are never going to add sharks. And the reason they gave was this: they are worried that sharks in Minecraft will teach kids that sharks are these awful monsters that should be killed and hunted, when in actual fact, sharks are very "misunderstood". But just a year and a half ago, they added Polar Bears. They are very much the same as sharks in terms of behaviour. So why is it they can add polar bears but not sharks? Polar Bears are actually a vulnerable species. And yet in Minecraft, a polar bear will attack you if you go near its cubs. They had no problem making polar bears an attacking mob that you'd kill - so why now all of a sudden they make sharks off-limit for fear of teaching kids to kill sharks? But what really got me to make this thread was a recent tweet from Maria Lemon, stating that riding dolphins will not be a thing since it's "animal cruelty". Well, they might as well either not add dolphins or make them invincible, because surely hitting one with a sword over and over again till it dies is animal cruelty. And something tells me they're not going to remove dolphins or make them invincible. They will undoubtedly, like all mobs, be able to be killed by sword or fist. So they can have THAT, but not the ability to RIDE them because THAT'S animal cruelty!?! Might as well remove the ability to ride horses on the off-chance that a horse doesn't like to be ridden. Might as well remove all animals from the game period so there's no animals to BE hurt. Oh and let's not forget that in this game you can murder HUMANS to your heart's content with absolutely no trace of consequence. Seriously Mojang. Animal harm has always been an integral part of Minecraft. Don't shy away from adding awesome new features because you only NOW started caring about animal cruelty. [link] [comments]

After all this “animal cruelty” controversy, they still allow cannibalism in the game in a way. Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:51 AM PST The post of how you cannot ride dolphins in the game is rather just an idiotic idea. If you can't ride dolphins because it's animal cruelty, then we should not be allowed to eat rotten flesh. It would be considered cannibalism in a way because you are eating a dead corpses flesh. If we were allowed to hold on to a dolphins fin and use as a boost, that would make more sense, but dolphins are just an ambient mob? No, I don't like it. [link] [comments]

My One Issue With The Dolphin Riding Situation Posted: 11 Jan 2018 01:16 PM PST There issue is that kids may think they can ride dolphins in real life, leading to abuse. My question is when is a child going to be not supervised by a responsible adult when near a dolphin? Seriously this all stemmed from the parrot cookie situation, but unlike parrots, dolphins are not house hold pets that your 7 year old is going to be alone with. If adding the ability to ride dolphins leads to a increase in dolphin abuse, it is the parents fault, and therefore it shouldn't be limiting us from having it in the game. P.S: Helen (the community manager) said something along the lines of "If people want to ride dolphins, they'll just mod it in. That is NOT an acceptable alternative. Holding back content saying that players can do the work is just lazy. [link] [comments]

I created a datapack for 1.13 that displays mob health Posted: 11 Jan 2018 07:48 AM PST When looking at a mob you will see it health on the actionbar. It's a neat little feature that's useful both for vanilla and for custom maps (for custom bosses for example). Feel free to download it and use it in your own creations. Posted: 11 Jan 2018 07:07 PM PST Two advancements on the Java Edition of the game involve killing monsters: Monster Hunter and Monsters Hunted. To win the first, the player must kill at least one hostile monster of any type, and to win the latter, the player must kill at least one hostile monster of every type. That per se wouldn't be a problem, until you look at the list of the 22 creatures that the game considers a monster that you have to kill:
The polar bear is the only creature in there that is just an animal (see the notes below). There's nothing magical or supernatural about them. It just doesn't make sense to me that polar bears are in that list, because not only they are not monsters, also they are only hostile if they are attacked or if players get too close to their babies. Polar bears are neutral creatures, they even spawn in Peaceful mode. If that list considered "things that attack you" to be hostile monsters, then they should also include wolves and dogs there. And I don't think Mojang plans on making an advancement where you NEED to kill a dog. And polar bears are vulnerable. This means that they are threatened by extinction. But most of us probably already knew that, since I'm sure we've all seen images like this... Sources: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Advancements#List_of_advancements https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Polar_Bear https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_bear Notes: I'm not considering things like zombies, illagers or witches to be animals, even though they are mutated forms of humans (which are animals, but... you get what I mean). Spiders ARE animals; however, they could be considered monsters, since they are bigger than dogs and sometimes can even be invisible. [link] [comments]

(Vanilla Nit Picks) Things that bug me about trap doors & glass panes. Posted: 11 Jan 2018 07:42 AM PST Has anyone ever wished panes would be rotatable to lay down (lay down like carpet) so we can have proper skylights? Has anyone wished fences connected diagonally corner to corners so we can have nicer diagonally fences. How about having trap doors placeable sideways like half doors so we can have old western style saloon doors? These are very minor but I've always wondered why they lacked or if it was designer oversight. [link] [comments]
