| What would you want to see in a guide about reaching 5k? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:58 AM PST I started writing a guide last month covering everything I feel is important to becoming a 5k player. I got about 80% done of it, but I'm starting to doubt whether or not I actually know what I'm talking about. Turns out Dota is really complicated and trying to make a single all-inclusive guide to it is hard. Also it's not like being a 5k player means you're a super amazing genius or anything, but I should know something, right? Occasionally I'll post stuff about the game that isn't 100% accurate, but I try my best to admit when I'm wrong. So my question is, what things do you personally feel are the most important to improving/what areas do you feel you have the most problems with? I just want some advice to see if there's anything I'm majorly missing / motivation to finish it up and fire it out to the world. Here's the table of contents of the guide Table of Contents:

| Posted: 13 Jan 2018 03:27 PM PST Around 3 months ago we started a discord for daily in houses for players who wanted to play dota in a toxicity free environment. Every night since we have been playing inhouses and even have a leaderboard depending on how well you do even with constant streamers and future caster in here. We are now looking for more players to join our ~80 member discord in order to start a competitive league. Our goal is to have completely balanced teams in order to have better competition and promote a better environment. Like mentioned above, Cheeky League's original goal was to create a toxic free environment, so flaming will not be tolerated in game or in discord. We are open to anyone from Crusader-Ancient to make balancing teams a lot easier. Hope to see you their! :) [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 13 Jan 2018 11:16 AM PST Pretty common. You team is farming, as the enemy team also is. You want to push, but your carries say "Nah, let's farm!". You can't push alone. Or you're a core and wants to push, but your sup is only warding defensively. I agree, this example is a bit vague or extreme, but all of us has been in this situation before. Here's a few questions. How to avoid this situation? What you, as a pos4/5 can do now? What you, as a pos 1/2 can do now? How to predict that a game may turn into Stardew Valley from pick/bans? If your window to punish a greedy line-up has passed, is just waiting for the end a solution? [link] [comments] |
| Alchemist 'Farming Support' strategy Posted: 13 Jan 2018 07:50 AM PST Hey guys. I always wanted to try out this strategy. It finally worked. The game was played in SEA server, divine bracket. I started the game as a safelane carry. I got Power Treads/SnY/Blink as my core items. After that, I started to build Aghs for my team. This strategy is very situational. You need at least 2 heores in your team that can powerspike and decide the game by getting Aghs from Alchemist. In the video, I elaborate on my decision makings at every stage of the game. This could probably help some players out there wanting to learn what Divine players do and how they interact each other in high level pub games. [link] [comments] |

| Tinker advancedd mechanics questions Posted: 13 Jan 2018 10:52 AM PST So i just broke 3 of my fingers playing tinker, so Im probably never gonna play the fuckin hero again but I still wanna know how these are done. When i blink-march-anything else, my 3rd spell always gets delayed or not cast because of the cast animation (idk what u call it in this instance) of march. So many times i tried to march dagon or march rocket laser but the spell i cast after march is always delayed. I knkw theres a way to time it such that there is no delay, but how is this done? Also when ur in a situation where u are taking damage, i see better players sable to rearm blink out during damage. How? Just in case: [link] [comments] |
| Learning Stream Test Today and Full Stream Tomorrow Posted: 13 Jan 2018 11:56 AM PST Hey again guys, so this is happening. I'm going to be doing an educational stream for a few hours today to get a feel for what I should be doing, as well as figuring out any settings/necessary settings changes I need to make for the Stream to be as high of quality as possible. That said, I have a few questions as to what the community here would like to see, in terms of stream presentation and role/hero. Music or In Game sound only? Generally I switch between using it and not when I play, and it may help the stream be a little less quiet when not talking. I can also see how it would be distracting though, so I'm curious what people think would be better. Hero: For now, I'd like to stick to a role or hero that I'm comfortable on and feel like I can offer the most educated commentary on, and answer questions the most effectively, so for now at least, I'll be playing Mid or Carry as often as I can, and I'd be happy to switch between them for different games. As for heroes, I'm most practiced and most comfortable on Tinker, Invoker, Antimage, Alchemist, SF, and Meepo. If anyone is particularly interested in those heroes, let me know and I can focus more on what you ask. If you'd rather see other heroes in the roles I'm playing, just tell me and I'll play it if I feel comfortable enough on the hero (I can handle a fair few more, these are just what I'm most comfortable on) Lastly, if anyone here didn't see my last post, this is supposed to be an educational experience for any of you who feel like a 4.6k player can answer your questions, as well as myself. I'll do my best to say what I think, and feel free to ask my anything during the stream, I'm happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Today's stream is going to start at 5:00 EST, and likely I won't queue until 5:30 just to interact with anyone who's asking questions + fix stream settings for quality and volume if I need to. The stream will be here! I hope to see some of you there, and if you have any questions for me, feel free to ask on this thread, I'll answer anything I can! [link] [comments] |
| I want to help low skilled players improve! Posted: 12 Jan 2018 11:00 PM PST Hey everyone! I've been playing Dota since 2007 and I absolutely love this game! Unfortunately I know that Dota 2 is a hard game to get good at and sometimes answers to your questions aren't easy to come by. This could get pretty discouraging at times. The highest MMR I've ever gotten to and been floating around at for those who cares is 4950. My current MMR isn't where it's used to be due to my senior year of college. I've gotten sloppy mechanically but I have a lot of knowledge and game theory to share. I know that I can definitely help players under 4k MMR so I'll start there. Leave me questions and I'll do my best to help you out. Eventually I want to create a YouTube series where I look at questions that are asked to me or topics I find on this subreddit and talk about them. So what are you waiting for? Ask away! I hope everyone has a wonderful day! :) [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 13 Jan 2018 01:06 PM PST Alchemist was always played as a pos 1/2, very rarely was maybe picked as a cheesy suppport to get team early aghs, but what if picking alchemist as a support is the better option now? Alchemist is pretty tanky level 1, 700 hp, 2.67 armor. In the current patch, the only way he can be picked as a core is as a 5th pick, when the whole team relies on him, simmilar to huskar(obviously there are exceptions, but this is the main point.). The last few patches have buffed his Unstable Concoction a lot, and nerfed his acid. Not only that, but Since the introduction of 7.00, there are 4 bounty runes, but he gets less from each. Meaning that if he is roaming, he has a really good chance to get at least 1 or two. So, why play him as a pos 4, how and why at all? Lets first of all look at the low levels. At level one he can either go for Acid Spray, Unstable Concoction, Or Greevils Greed. In my opinion, the Acid spray is not usefull enough to be taken Level 1. Greevils greed Is not worth taking at level one unless u want to play really passive the first few levels. This leaves us with Unstable Concoction. It has 775 cast range. Thats a huge cast range for a stun. The stun will deal up to 160 damage, and 1.75 duration if u let it go for 5 seconds. Not too good, but also not too bad. Ur movement speed is 295 and starting with boots u should have 335, thats pretty good, playing similar to a level 1 pudge u can reliably get almost max duration stuns every time. U should also get level 2 around the time for first runes, meaning that by the then gold will be kinda easy to aquire. After runes u can purchase a smoke to go get a kill on mid, and with that u might get level 3, meaning that now ur stun is now very strong. 240 max damage, 2.5 duration, etc. Level 4 acid is probably the better option, as it allows you to both farm if nothing is going on, or to use it with concoction to almost asure a kill. So, ther skill build would probably be 1-3-1-1, maxing the concoction first, then deciding between acid and greevils depending on if the game is fast or slow. As for items, I would start with either boots + tangos plus branch. Or boots + smoke + salve. Or Windlace + smoke + orb of venom(Risky because of no regen). I would then buy oov if i didnt get one already, and go for windlance, a soulring and medalion. After that, U can go for a couple of stuff. Either go blink to get reliable stuns off, you can also start going carry with sny and stuff if game going really well, u can upgrade to solar crest, and you can go for aghs on teammates if its good. The good thing about alchemist support, is that not only will his stun get better and better throughout the game, with -5 second cooldown on level 10, and 360 damage on level 20. He also has amazing talents, can scale into a carry or get utility items way faster than any other support, etc. And he can enable some cores really well, e.g If your second support is distruptor, he can have his aghs in a timing that nobody else would ever get it, and it can allow your team to fight a lot. All in all, I think that alchemist is getting more and more out of the meta, and people are finding it really hard to find a way to play him, and I think that he might just become a really good support, same way as omni transitioned from a mediocre at most suppport, to an amazing offlaner. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |

| Why do people abandon after 10 min mark after first blood? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 11:24 AM PST I lost few games because people just randomly abandon. No one is flaming them or anything. They just abandon. And it hurts when i pick support and my carry just randomly abandons. What to do? It makes me upset :( How do you deal with such situations? You leave or continue playing? | Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:57 AM PST I'm currently at 4k. I played a lot of games but my mmr is not going up. Still at 4k. I slightly understand the laning phase. I do creep aggro, last hits and denies. The heroes I frequently use: Invoker, Shadow Fiend, Puck, Storm Spirit and Tinker. Also, how to get 300 cs in 30 minutes without stacking neutrals? Any advice to be a better mid player? [link] [comments] |
| Can someone go over this game with me?? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:53 AM PST So I played the juggs and, I felt like it was a decent pick here. Went for a BF to deal with the TB and to farm. Felt like the bkb pickup probably wasn't needed and, should have just gotten a butterfly. Any other comments other than "that's a terrible build" etc would be welcomed. https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3677238942 [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:16 AM PST Hello, I've been playing pretty solid for about a year or so and have jumped into the ranked scene. I ended up with MMR of 800 and climbed to about 1k. I've been reading that picking a couple of heroes per role is the best way to improve, so i'm wondering what heroes everyone would recommend I concentrate on, for my skill level? And reasons? Thanks [link] [comments] |
| Is Brew's Aghs any more viable right now? Posted: 12 Jan 2018 10:31 PM PST I remember asking practically the same question a couple months back, like pre-7.07 and everyone said that Brew's Aghs isn't great because its 4200 gold spent just to make the ult a little better, whereas I can go items like the standard Blink/Vlads/Radiance/AC/BKB which makes me equally useful both in and out of my ult. That made perfect sense at the time, but now that he has a talent which gives him 35 sec CD on Split (with the 20 sec duration of lv3 ult, it basically has a 15 sec downtime), is Aghs any better now? Is it ok to go the standard build I mentioned above and just grab a late-game Aghs around the time you hit your lv25? [link] [comments] |
| Current SF tips please? Breakdown of my current play inside Posted: 13 Jan 2018 05:43 AM PST I've just started playing Shadow Fiend. I really like him so far, but I seem to have a few specific problems with him.
I think SF is a snowball hero so dying and not getting kills would seem like things I should fix in order to get better at him, but I'm not sure how. My current build is Bottle -> Brown Boots -> Aquila -> Treads -> Shadow Blade -> BKB/Hurricane Pike/Silver Edge (all of them, but might build one before the other depending on what I feel like I need most) -> Aghs - BoTs. I'm practicing the laning phase and slowly getting better at building up souls through LHs/denies. I don't know if I should go and gank other lanes? That seems so 2015, and I don't tend to do that when I play mid anymore (more often than not I find if a mid leaves lane, they lose their tower -- and mid tower is strategically important). But I wonder if SF is a hero that really wants to go gank lanes anyway during laning phase? After the laning phase I go to fights when my ult is up, using Shadow Blade to try to get in the middle of the fight first. I cast my ult, then try to use razes to finish off foes. I am getting a little better with getting kills, but often end up with assists instead. If my ult is down or I am low on souls, I'll farm jungle / lanes. I fear showing in lane though; I find SF quite squishy, and at my bracket if you show on the map then pretty much everyone on the enemy team will run to kill you. It's just how it is. Plus there tends to be no vision unless I ward, which I do if I can -- though if I can't get over the river safely to ward then vision can be very limited. I think I need practice on landing raze successfully, and hopefully that will come with time. I spam bottle recharges and clarities for mana regen. I seem to have quite big mana problems with SF. I'd push with my team more if pushes actually happened. Games at my level tend to be of the "see enemy on map, run towards enemy, have big fight. Maybe push after a fight if you're still alive and if your team feels like it." Like I said, I'll go to fights if my ult's up, but don't always get there in time (fights can be in really nonsense places at potato tier, as I'm sure you know). Are there any other tips you can give me? Thanks for reading / helping :) Edit for more detail / questions: My build currently: +20 attack speed, but I am thinking of going for spell amp instead -> +40 Movement Speed -> +150 Shadowraze damage usually but not always -> +3 Damage per Soul. Questions: what are good / bad lineups to pick SF with / against? (Beyond you don't really want to be playing against a TA in mid.) Does any of the advice change if you're playing turbo? E.g. Turbo seems more geared towards fighting -- it grants a lot of xp/gold -- so maybe SF as a famer isn't as good in turbo? [link] [comments] |
| Is Bristleback a hard counter to Death Prophet? Posted: 12 Jan 2018 10:31 PM PST I just vs one and every team fight he faced away from me while silenced and rapid fired quill spray because DP ulti procs his passive. He can also easily buy a pipe to help his team. Just tested it in custom lobby, bb stands next to dp with her ult on and she dies first while they both just stand there. They both had heart as only item. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 13 Jan 2018 04:54 AM PST As the title says, what talents should I get for tinker. My guide says to get 75 cast range at lvl 10 but I normally go for the spell amp. When should I prioritise one over the other on all levels. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 13 Jan 2018 02:17 AM PST I first played bristleback when I did my first captain's draft game. With no practice whatsoever. And we lost despite an early game lead. I know, not a good idea. So, I liked bristleback but just played so poorly with him. When I played him again after like 5+ months, my interest for him returned and after a bad game, got some good games with him and I currently have a 5-win streak with him (not counting turbo). While my performance with him got better, I still have no idea what his playstyle is besides being aggressive and tanking damage. Looking for feedback: https://www.dotabuff.com/players/122238839/matches?hero=bristleback Can I add him to my hero pool (usually used in ranked and lobbies) now or should I practice it more? | Posted: 13 Jan 2018 04:18 AM PST I know i know, report me, but unfortunately i have a ton of fun playing this guy, and would like to learn him for serious play. So how do you play him? Usually i just camp a lane, plant mines all over the place, control the whole area. In fact, i played a game yesterday where i actually never left the lane, after a while no one came there because they were scared of the mines, is this how you play him? He seems quite useless to me in teamfights, apart from his AoE silence thing, do i just control the map with this guy? How do i teamfight with him? Pretty sure that what i did was really extreme, but i did it because i felt like i could get away with it, and i did, we didn't win though, my team refused to fight on the controlled area. So how the fuck do i play techies? I didn't get low priority so i must not be playing right. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
