In the '18 and Up Update, Grim says this:

Welcome back! To be frank (or Grim, really), I'm not sure if that's a welcome back to us, or you guys, but let's go with it either way. 2018 has arrived and with it, the promise of new fun times to be had and adventures to be embarked upon. No, not those adventures, but plenty of exciting ones regardless – some which might surprise you more than others.

To me, he seems to be indicating that Halo 6 won't be coming this year. However, he does say that in 2018, we'll be embarking on adventures, and that it may surprise us. Do you think a spin-off game could be coming this year? I think it would be cool to get something, though nothing huge.

UPDATE: Now that 343i is working on fixing the MCC, I decided it may be helpful to repost this in order to possibly give them some insight into some of the most important issues. /u/ske7ch343

Hello everyone. Ske7ch stated in a post that a lot of what the community was asking was just not viable. I basically compiled a list showing some of the game breaking issues, along with some issues that are smaller, but would make the game experience so much better. The sub points are minor observations on the bigger whole to provide more information. As I said, some of the issues are minor and, I assume, can be added relatively easily, and those are what I hope can be fixed in a patch. 343i/Ske7ch, PLEASE! There is a decent sized community here on the Master Chief Collection that loves the older Halo games, and this is pretty much all they have. Fixing these issues would make the experience SO much better for those of us still on the MCC. Releasing a patch won't make you any profit, but it will help mend the fracture between the old school community and 343i. Also if any MCC players out there wanna help me expand this list, please PM me or leave a comment. Thanks to the community and Ske7ch!

 


 

TECHNICAL ISSUES

 

  • Party system is very broken, and barely usable. Some of the primary issues with it are:
    1. Other players will be invisible to a player after the search has been started.
    2. Ranks will show for certain people, and won't for others.
    3. Getting a lobby together will usually require resets for multiple players. Even though a player will be chatting in a party with a stable internet connection, MCC will not let them join another player.
    4. Turning off your Xbox while in MCC, then going back to an already loaded MCC when you turn your Xbox back on will not let you find games or join other players.
    5. A leader restarting a search will sometimes mess up another party member's UI, causing overlaying in menus. Sometimes this can be fixed with going back to the main menu, but other times requires a game reset.
    6. In very rare instances, a player within a party will be placed on the opposite team.
    7. In many instances, a player will be locked within the "find game" menu while the rest of the team searches. It will appear to him that the team isn't searching yet, but to the members that are searching it will appear that the locked player is also searching. It is impossible to find games while this is happening, and the only fix is to identify the locked player and make him reset his game.
  • Failing to load games is common:
    1. If a player has more than one account logged in, most of the time his game will delay loading. It can take anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes.
    2. If the host quits, the game ends.
    3. In rare occurrences, someone will flat out not load in or get a delayed load in. This has been found to occur with players that are logged into only one account and with a stable internet connection.
  • Game commonly selects host with terrible internet.
  • As stated above, game is unable to select a new host if one quits during a game.
  • Players constantly quit game lobbies if they get maps that they don't like, or play against players that they don't wanna go against. The only methods I know of are switching Xbox accounts, or quitting the game.
  • A lot of the time, MCC will simply not load up from the dashboard. It will usually happen for a couple times, and then work.
  • Sometimes, after a match, a player will not be able to search for a new game for about 10 minutes. A box comes up stating "Receiving matchmaking data. Please Wait."
  • Multiple reports stating that people aren't receiving achievements for completing the proper objectives. This has been stated to most frequently occur with campaign achievements. (Thanks /u/EIysium_ for info)

EASIER FIXES

 

  • Many maps are missing from the rotation. In Halo 3, the legendary map, Sand Trap, was replaced by the awful Sand Tarp. And maps such as Ghost Town, and Sandbox are missing for some reason. Trust me, Halo 3 BTB NEEDS some map diversity.
  • Add ranked based matching. Having a longer search and good game is far better than having a shorter search and playing against all 50s. And the other way around, 50s really don't wanna play against low skilled players.
  • Make Halo CE 4v4. CE players are going to Team Slayer and only voting for CE because 2v2 is not fun.
  • Make bans more consistent. If someone dodges a match, they should be automatically banned for 30 minutes. If someone quits two games they should be banned for 1 hour.
  • Allow customs to be joined in progress. Trust me, there is still a custom games community that desperately wants this implemented. Currently, if someone hops on and wants to join in a custom, the whole lobby needs to back out and then invite the player.
  • Add a ranked Free For All.
  • Please keep a consistent rotational playlist every weekend. The MCC community would respect 343i a lot more if they see that you guys are active in any degree at all. Right now we have Grifball, move it to Team Objective, then Multi Team, etc.
  • Allow menu music to be muted. The music is amazing, but I have around 2000 hours on this game and it gets old eventually.
  • Add Heavies game types to the rotation on BTB. There isn't a single multiplayer Halo 3 map with a tank or wraith. These gametypes are alot of fun, and its the kind of stuff that keeps people coming back for more.
  • Add the Dinghy boat back to Longshore, and add Covenant creates on each side of Assembly.

This would include little stuff like adding the Dinghy to longshore, adding a covenant crate on each side of Assembly, and perhaps some BTB heavies maps for H3. Adding dynamic objects that can be used in various ways to maps increases the experience by adding a level of fun, and adding the heavies map creates new experiences and opportunities to spice up the playlist.

Since when was Infection changed?

Going back to Infection for the first time in a while, I've noticed that there are no other weapons on the map, and humans don't spawn with a grenade anymore. Just wondering when that change was implemented and how you all feel about it. I for one liked scavenging for guns.

I never played custom games very often but I have some friends who just picked up Halo 5 recently and I'm hosting a lot of lobbies of Infection, novelty Slayer gametypes, Mongoose Sumo, and more.

However the sheer amount of loading bugs and just plain regular bugs put a serious damper on big lobbies and occasionally end them all together.

Load up a multi-round Infection gametype, first round glitches out so I'm the lone survivor being attacked by ten zombies. Okay fair enough, it's one round. Second round starts and everyone but the zombie is caught in a long black screen so he just racks up free kills and the round ends in thirty seconds.

Occasionally the game ends and it just freezes everyone's console. Occasionally my game freezes when going to select a new map or gametype. Classic Fiesta CTF (a la Husky Raid) refuses to load so a true Husky Raid game isn't possible without making a custom version in Forge. Occasionally team changing just gets disabled and I have to remake the lobby or do another gametype to get it to work again. Everytime I go to start up another gametype I need to make sure the max player count is set to 16 because for some reason it defaults to the number of players present at the end of the last game.

The game is fantastic fun when it's working but it bugs up often enough that it gets frustrating quick. I have friends (cough /u/jburton90) who more or less quit Halo 5 in part to the inconsistent and glitchy nature of custom games.

This isn't new information and I'm not sure there'll be anything done about with future projects on horizon, but maybe I'll be surprised. It isn't a dealbreaker yet, just very very disappointing.
