We need a Defiance Bar tutorial in low-level zones Posted: 11 Jan 2018 10:48 AM PST I know, I know, it's a topic done to death, but it deserves occasional mentioning. The Defiance Bar is a central mechanic to Guild Wars 2, and nowhere does the game itself actually explain what it is and how it works. Before Defiance Bars were introduced, Anet put in Dodge Instructors as part of their New Player Experience to teach players how to dodge. Dodging was just as much of a problem then as the Defiance Bar is now -- people straight up didn't understand that dodging was a thing you could do, and thus some content became a huge pain to do with pugs. You'd have a pug in Crucible of Eternity constantly wiping against Subject Alpha because they simply didn't understand that you had to dodge out of his attacks. While people derided them, saying that people would still skip to 80 and nobody would bother... I've found that by and large I've had FAR fewer problems with players knowing that they need to dodge stuff. My thought is that there should be a Defiance Bar instructor in each starting zone similar to the Dodge Instructor. The objective should be something equally simple -- a simple reward chest to entice players. It shouldn't be something that punishes players unduly for failing, so no instant death or whatever. I'd structure it in two parts: first, the player would be given a tool/gizmo that has a mix of all the common Hard and Soft control effects between the five (or even ten) skills on it. Players then use this tool to break the Defiance Bar. Then, the instructor takes the tool and tells them to use their OWN skills in the same way -- thus forcing the player to figure out what skills their profession has that does Defiance Bar damage. Hopefully, such a tutorial would mean that at least some players would learn, and then we'd have at least a little less shouting of OMG!!! CC!!!! CC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in map chat. [link] [comments]

Soulbeast F1, F2 Ability Issues Posted: 11 Jan 2018 12:05 PM PST I love my soulbeast but I think the pet skills have a few issues at the moment. 1) The movement pet skills like Swoop, Brutal Charge, Crippling Leap, Charge all move less distance than on the tooltip. Swoop says 1200 range but is closer to 400 Brutal Charge(Canine) says 600 but is 100(you barely move) Crippling Leap again says 400 but moves you closer to 250 Charge(Rock Gazzelle) says 1200 but moves 1000(still not bad) A special mention to Devourer's retreat which is a 300 range evade back- the tooltip is correct but the range is so small it's an extremely underwhelming pet skill to use. And that's not mentioning the spider poison skill completely whiffing 90% of the time. 2) Several pet abilities do extremely low damage(less than 1 autoattack) due to extremely low damage coefficients. For example, although the feline pets maul does a few bleed stacks and is "meta" for condi-soulbeast, their bite does 700 damage, around 1500-2000 with crit with a hefty cast time. It's just terrible and the drake's Chomp and Bear's Bite, Rock Gazzelle's kick all fall victim to this as well. In addition, all pet skills are heavily nerfed in beastmode, ex. Frenzied Attack(Moa) deals 1352 for 4 hits when the pet does it but in beast mode it does 265 for 5 hits. 5408 dmg for the pet vs 1352 in beastmode. These issues really apply to pet skills dealing pure damage as conditions and boon effect skills can still be useful since it depends on a player's stats. Overall, Beastmode skills borrowed from pets(not the F3) deal so little damage its not even worth to use them. Soulbeasts still has immense burst but this is due to the stat gain and some of the traits. The borrowed pet skills are garbage right now and only 30% of them are worth using. I mean, a new player would think if you merged with a tiger you would get useful damage skills but no, you get "Bite" dealing 700 damage at level 80 and "Maul" which is equally bad but is somehow saved due to condi application. I understand SoulBeast is viable with certain pets but you're restricted from.using the rest or particular abilities because they're just bad and an auto attack would be more useful. I really hope a fix to the distance skills and a small buff to the weaker power-based pet skills is in order [link] [comments]

I just realized that I kind of miss the old dialogue cutscenes. Posted: 11 Jan 2018 10:09 AM PST I started to play the main story on my alt, and I realzed that in some parts the earlier stories are much more immersive than the newer ones. I think that one reason for this is the beatiful, close-up dialogue cutscenes. Of course these old dialogues have their faults, but they really make you feel like you're part of the action, opposed to when you're full FOV zoomed out to see your surroundings etc. Does anyone else feel that it would be nice for them to be reintroduced in some situations? What's the highest waypoint in tyria? Or other high up waypoints? Posted: 11 Jan 2018 01:32 PM PST I wanna do swoops and speed flying while on the Griffin and listening to podcasts and stuff. Also, beyond the griffin mastery challenges what are some of your favourite locations for casual flying? Maybe we should compile a list of best places for griffin flying. Create a flying guild. Start a griffin gang. Become a criminal, griffin-based organization. Smuggle piles of bloodstone-laced cocaine to Cantha and the like. Typical guild stuff. [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 09:49 AM PST I was thinking... would it be possible to make a switchable setting for showing outfit headgears? You see, head parts of outfits are the only part, that can be hidden, right? Thus it should be technically possible to overwrite their look with that of normal headgear. For example, a character with one eye suddenly doesn't have one eye. Scar, or simply wants to use top hat with tuxedo outfit. My dearest Anet developers: I don't expect you to reply to this thread, but please do consider such option. Many, many many Fashion Wars 2 players would be ever so happy with something... in my laic opinion simple! If I am mistaken with my assumption of it being possible or easy-ish, please do correct me. Anybody. Thank you for listening, have a nice day! [link] [comments]

Anyone else losing all their charges on Mantra of Solace? Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:26 AM PST I noticed the heal mantra for Firebrand is the only one that doesn't have a 1s cooldown on its final charge. Though even when I feel like I only tapped the mantra once it uses all my charges. This is getting pretty frustrating when trying to maintain quickness/boons in Raids when I have to wait 20+ seconds and a lengthy mantra charge. [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 12:30 PM PST Accidently talked to the BLCM in LA today, near the TP and I noticed it had the voice of a male Asura. Now normally this would be alright, however, I ALSO noticed that the model was of a Female Charr. Probably should be fixed. Or not. It's pretty funny. [link] [comments]
What's going on with the gw2 economy? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 11:52 PM PST Alot of the prices and values of many items in the game are tanking like crazy. T6 Materials have tanked hard since Istan and it's reducing the value to do any other types of farms, or at least the potential profit drastically. In November Bloods were worth 50-60s each, now they're jumping up and down in the 20-30s range. That goes for the other Mats. Ectos are getting weird aswell. I've never seen their value this low before. According to Gw2spidy, the last time they were this low is launch and mid 2013. Does this affect any recipes? Of course it does, lowering anything that uses them. This has in return also dropped the value of legendary weapons. In Octobre we can notice the value of a Sunrise, a typical Legendary was worth 3200g+. Since the advent of this mat value destruction, they've since dropped to 2500g+. Anything that takes mats is basically tanking. Black Lion chest revamps which are nice also are double sided and are having affects even beyond the scope of the items within them. Besides Permanent contracts dropping drastically and making them more accessible to casual players, the re-rolls of many black lion weapons give players the opportunity to simply buy a complete set of some weapons and exchange the tickets for profit rendering the cost of their initial purchase even which is a new one for me. The value of Claim tickets has diminished by at least 20-30% and are affecting all the other skin prices. Another example of this oversight is Permanent extractors brought up by a youtuber "Sam Ajeste?". People can buy the perma extractor and pull sigils out of expensive items, sell the sigil to recoup the cost of purchase and roll the exotic items for a higher chance at a precursor, which in turn lowers the price of legendary weapons even MORE. By reducing the value of farms so much, eventually the only way to make any real gold will be to do fractals or select parts of the game. The crash in gw2's economy will have an affect on how people play the game and lower the population in many areas where materials are flipped over for gold. Silverwaste will become useless, Map rewards train will stop and Istan will be become even less valuable. This all affects the games health in general. With less people rotating maps more and more concentrating to the few areas that reward good gold return for playtime. New comers will notice less people playing the game even at Or. Gw2 might turn into another game like WildStar where the vast majority of players are only found at endgame. [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jan 2018 10:27 AM PST Hello my fellow GW2 economy enthusiasts! For quite a while now, I have been using a piece of software I developed that helps me to determine short-term items to flip as quickly as possible. When I first got into playing the market, I always had a hard time figuring out which items to go for, and to make matters worse, I wasn't a very patient person when it came to waiting for items to buy and sell. By analyzing GW2Spidy, and keeping VERY close records I was able to find these types of items, but the process always took more time that what I'd actually spend playing the game (and a whole lot of spreadsheets). I decided to make a piece of software that does all that legwork for me, and now that I'm sure that it works, I want to share it with all of you! I call it the GW2 Commerce Assistant, and you can download and install it here: http://christophergoodwin.info/uploads/gw2commerceassistant/publish.htm. This software will monitor the trading post and guesstimate the rates at which items are buying and selling. Based on that info, along with the profit margin, it will tell you which items to invest in. The monitor resets every time you load the program, so there is no long-term investment data: only the current data for items that can be quickly flipped. When starting it for the first time, or any time that ANet updates GW2's item list, it will need to download the latest item definitions. Depending on your internet connection, I've seen this process last anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes (I put some progress labels in there though, so you can see it actually downloading). Once the application opens, you will see all sorts of filters you can adjust to filter out certain items depending on your flipping preferences. When you are ready click the "Start Monitor" button. It will take a full minute for it to initialize all the trading data. All of the items will appear in the data grid, but it will take another minute before it starts calculating its score. Item's with the highest score typically have the best chances of making you the quickest profit. This data can all be exported to a CSV for use in Excel by clicking the "Export to CSV" button. For advanced users, you can change the equation that calculates the score by clicking on the Score Equation button. By doing this, you can create your own equations that will give you the resulting scores that you think are best. The GW2 Commerce Assistant has another tab at the top next to Item Flipper called Salvage Flipper. By clicking the Refresh price data button, it will list all the pieces of armor and weapons that can be bought, salvaged, then have the runes and sigils sold for more. The Instant Profit is the profit you'd get for doing this when buying and selling instantly. It is very rare that these numbers are positive, but when they are, it is worth quickly capitalizing on. The long-term profit is under the assumption that you are putting in buy and sell orders (I know it's not much of a long-term, but like I said earlier, I'm impatient 😊). If you have any feature ideas, or come across any bugs, feel free to let me know. I am incredibly excited to be releasing this to you all and am really looking forward to seeing the various settings and equations you guys use to get the best results. Happy flipping! UPDATE For those concerned about security, here is a link to the VirusTotal scans of the executable: UPDATE 2 I changed the link to a new version of the program so that it in no way requires admin permissions anymore. Also, the program now has a self updater on it, so that it can now grab future versions of the commerce assistant as I post them :) [link] [comments]
GW2 and its community is an absolutely amazing treatment for a downed emotional state. Posted: 10 Jan 2018 11:13 PM PST Howdy! Been in the community since the 3 day head start. Lurked a lot, don't post often. Seen several stories about the healing properties that spill from the GW2 community. I was always (still am and will forever be) glad to see this game helping someone in a rut, healing a wound or making a RL process manageable or even somehow translate a means to an end (for the better I mean). Super short story but I had to share, give back my appreciation to everyone that is so amazing and ya'll nearly make me cry sometimes! Love you all! Everyone <3 I had been having a downer day (won't go into details! Can msg if you really want them), was just kinda dampened spirits and no pep in the step or squeak and eye twinkle of any kind. Decided to finish my daily and make it quick and just exit for the time as I worked on yet another (wanted not needed ha...) character before I dropped the gems and gold to make her happen. So I popped into WvW to grab my monument and flit. Enemy showed up at my monument for the same reason I was there, a daily and to move on. I was dancing on the pad waiting to either die to roamers or get lucky and get my daily and then die! Ha! Well I saw him, he saw me (or she playing a he!) I walked up to them because I had secured my daily and I felt there was a good chance they were here for the same reason I was. Nothing to loose haha. After I got up in front of him and did not die (I was in shock! wvw and the enemy did not kill me yay!) and I waved to them. I got a wave back! It was like my doom and gloom switch got turned off that second. In happiness, surprise and shock I waved back! And then let him pass to grab the monument for their daily and we waved, bowed. Lots of emotes of friendly respect. I was sooo happy. They absolutely made my day and fixed the gloom. Whoever you are Sylvari Soulbeast Druid! Thank you! (I'm CD this match up so XD yea hai) Vedoma the Seanchai was so glad to meet you! =D [link] [comments] |
