Feedback Request: PvP Channels / Open World PvP

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 01:26 PM PST

Please Read Before Posting

There's been some requests made by subreddit users and members of various Black Desert Online discords to gather suggestions for improving PvP channels to be more conductive to open world PvP and improve the experience overall. Our community has came together multiple times to provide feedback and suggestions that have improved the game at large, and it's our hope that our community can once again foster a discussion that will encourage more open world PvP.

Like our past feedback threads, it's important that all comments remain on topic so that we can have a constructive conversation. The kind of feedback we're specifically looking for is details of your experiences on PvP channels versus normal channels, views on the overall PvP channel experience, and suggestions that might encourage more players to use PvP channels, and suggestions that might encourage more open world PvP. Please be mindful when making suggestions, as proposed changes that require the least amount of development time will be the most useful and thus have a greater chance at being implemented. Feel free to reference components or aspects of other games that you found enjoyable, such as Ultima Online's Felucca System that provided increased risks and rewards for the PvP channel.

This post will have contest mode enabled, which means post order will be randomized rather than sorted by the most upvoted comments, so please scroll through and upvote those that you agree with. Constructive conversations are encouraged, but please note that off-topic posts will be removed. This post will remain stickied until Monday, January 15 at 12:00 AM EST.

BDO mini-game afterthoughts

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 11:06 PM PST

This is post-mortem of this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/blackdesertonline/comments/7p9unp/bdo_minigame_series_for_fun/

I've clipped some of the event highlights here:

1) Running away with the sheep game didn't work very well.

People were mostly too afraid to touch the sheep or flag. When people did, sheep just despawned. In hindsight, it was much better to use the pushcart/wheelbarrow because it remains on the floor longer and other players can pick it up immediately.

Here is clip of 'modified' event on the fly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWlQ4zw_WGI

Point was to get to the top of the podium. Someone ended up pushing it in the corner, but it was a lot of fun regardless. Game ends pretty fast, so small awards x 3 times is probably much better.

2) Horse fighting didn't work

Between my absence and return, the way horse combat works has changed inside of the arena. Next time, it will be better to do 'jousting tournament' with horse charge / horse combat and revise the rules.

I already have a better way to do this one (we'll call it jousting tournament next time). Either horse combat / horse charge, single elimination format.

3) OX game was huge success.

This was a great time burner, everyone had a blast and behaved really well. I thought we would have more griefers with this one but to my surprise, everyone behaved extremely well.

Also, sometimes group mentality didn't work very well : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGKNwEjJ_HE

I wish there would be a way to award more players.

4) Push cart race was funny, but it probably needed more participants.

As game description says in original post, this was supposed to be done in a safezone, but I figured pvping on it would be fun too. I was wrong. I'll stick to having this one in pve zone.

Any wheelbarrow race needs to be done on an alt and needs to start on same starting spot in a straight line.

Also not on a negative karma alt, apparently : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQxTzfJlBJQ

You can watch the entire thing on my vod at my twitch channel, but the highlights pretty much summarize everything pretty well.

Currently, I'm doing these events out of my pocket, but as I work out the quirks and bugs on each of the mini-game, I hope we'll be able to convince Kakao games with coupon rewards, and make this a monthly / bi-weekly thing, just like KR BDO streams.

I'd like to thank everyone for showing up to the event, I had a blast hosting the event, and thank you Hapu & ToddHowardIsGodd for helping out during the event.

Hey guys !

I'm just tired of getting only blackstones bundles at the night vendor what is your opinion about making memory fragment bundles (X5/X10) available at the nightvendor which would be sold for about 6-9M ?

We need to know how the enhancement system really works

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 08:33 AM PST

In the past we've had people test things such as accuracy/evasion and hidden stats, however something I think more important to test is the Enhancement System in this game.

As someone who's had over 10k hours in BDO, failed PEN multiple times and spent a great deal of time enhancing it seems that the system isn't as random as your failstacks just increase your chance to succeed by a certain percentage, Instead it's designed to give you either good luck streaks or bad luck streaks.

I've experienced this many times but one that sticks out was when I was trying to build a failstack for TET Accessories, I made 6 50 stacks in a row starting my Tri attempts at 30 and stopping at 50, I even took one of those stacks from 50 to 70 failing TRI because I was that convinced it would never succeed.

The next day I then succeed 20 Pri Red Coral Earring attempts in a row without a single failure all on 16 stacks. If we assume the datamined failstack chart has any legitimacy to it the chance of this happening is so incredibly small.

At the very least we should work together to collect enough data on enhancement that we can figure out the following

1: What is the actual enhancement chance of different failstacks 2:Are there days/times in which enhancing is more successful 3: Is there really such thing as a failstack cap?

All of this would be so much easier if you could just hover your mouse over your failstacks and see the % chance of the item in your window to upgrade

We really need to know this information as enhancement is such a big part of the game and not knowing how it works opens up the door for Pearl Abyss to abuse us with lower enhancement rates for new items such as Urugons/Griffon helm to sell more artisans.

Please leave your ideas as to how this test would be conducted

Boss alts: other class good as witch/wiz? which gear i need to use?

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 06:17 AM PST

I planned to have 4 chars: 1 for kutum, 1 for kzarka, 1 for karanda and 1 for bheg/dim tree.

I play wiz as main and i use that at kutum until i get a box then switch to another boss alt, a witch for karanda and i need to choose other 2/3 class to level up to 58.

Gear used for alts:

  • Black abyssal weaponx1; pri to duo rosar for other alts
  • Roaring magical sub-weapon
  • Pri to duo awakening green weapon
  • Roaring magical Armor
  • Beia's black magic gloves
  • Mediah Merchants Union Helm
  • Derek's Light leather Shoes
  • Asula accessories

Considering this gear, which class can i use other than wiz/witch? i'm bored to play the same class for the 3rd and 4th time lol

Quick question : I just a got basilisk belt from the night vendor for 30mil. Should I just sell it and buy a Tree Spirit Belt or any other? Or am I supposed to keep it and enhance it? (Level 56 Sorceress 140 AP)

What can pa/kakao do more to satisfy the community?

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 11:56 AM PST

I've been playing for 5 months going on 6months now and I just can't seem to understand the community. When I first started there were non stop complaints about how sausans and pirates are aids and that Valencia is garbage. As months go by more complaints about about players have stock piles of gold and mats but not enough fragments to enhance, or accessory enchantment makes u lose too much progress when u fail. Weeks goes by and changes are made, Valencia is now the "it" spots and it's now just black sausan/pirates anymore more people farming at Valencia makes scrolls super cheap 1.3-1.4m atm and fail safe access like asulas / lv 61/62 access but now the complaints are Valencia hunting maps is aids and that gathering mats is aids. It seems to me that it's impossible to please you guys. The games not perfect but atleast changes are made and they seem like they somewhat are listening. Hell they even released end game grind spots for those who said grinding pirates end game is boring.

Alchemy powerlevel inquiry

Posted: 12 Jan 2018 03:36 AM PST

From beginner 0, what is the best piece to afk craft with alchemy that can level you fast? I always tend to afk as my job requires me 12 hrs per day and all I can do is just check via phone. Recently, teamviewer really sucks cant even click the game and remotr is not functioning well. I am using the logmein and not that convinient as remotr but it helped me a little.

Back to back Dande boxes at Karanda

When Karanda spawned a few hours ago, I managed to get my first ever Dande from her and was super stoked. Switched to another channel afterwards only to have a second one drop from her while she was already around 15% hp.

(was omw to a guild mission right after karanda when taking this screenshot)

Read this before you go investing all your energy into your favorite grind spot

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 04:12 PM PST

Everyone seems to be freaking out about the recent KR changes to node levels. Before you go investing thousands of energy in your favorite grind spot node please hear me out on why this change is nothing to be overly hyped about unless you spend every second of your active time grinding.

(I will be using percentages from the patch notes as well as drop percentages listed on bddatabase.net. NOTE: Nowhere am I referring to or discussing the knowledge changes. This is purely discussing node levels and the new theoretical averages we will receive with them.)

The specific patch notes we will be looking at are as follows:

When killing a monster, there will be a 10% chance that item drop rate will increase by 5%; the item drop rate stacks for each increase in Node level.

  • If your Node Level is 10, you will get a 10% chance of getting 50% increased item drop rate.

  • "10%" here means that you will get the item drop rate increase in one in ten monsters.

  • This system is not applied on the items you get from party grinding and miscellaneous loot. (From this we assume "trash loot" is not affected)

First lets figure the new "average" drop rate of a Scroll Written in Ancient Language at Centaurus (currently the 2nd highest drop rate for scrolls & all versions have same drop %)

Centaurus:

Regular: .225%

W/50% Drop: .3375%

W/10% Chance to activate 50%: .03375%

New Overall: .25875% (As we see, the overall percentage hardly changes. To see any kind of benefits you would need to kill around 10,000 mobs and even then you would most likely be talking about a simple margin of error difference.)

Analysis: I used scrolls as their drop rate is fairly the same as items around its value such as Forbidden Books, Manshaum Dolls, etc. It is also fairly higher than that of the expensive accessories such as Seraps, Narc, ect. (these drop rates are all .01% or lower so the increase would be absolutely indistinguishable until 100,000+ mob kills). Lastly we can figure the per node level increase by taking .03375/10. This gives us a per node level increase of .003375% for a scroll.

Conclusion: Obviously this is not the be all, end all, of this conversation. It should however give a "somewhere in the ballpark" estimate. In-game testing needs to be done to really show us whether or not this is worthwhile. /u/Bigandshiny is probably going to be testing this as soon as we get it, but I would encourage everyone not to panic and start throwing energy at this because you see big flashy numbers like 50%.

Edit: Here is another example that I think is easier to follow and understand:

If you kill 2500 nagas in an hour only 250 of them will have the increased drop chance. And say the drop rate is .2% (pretty sure it's actually lower) regularly. 50% of that is .1 so the "increased" drop rate is .3%, but you are only getting that increased rate on the 250. So:

2500(How many you killed) x 0.2%(original drop %) = 5 scrolls

(2250(# W/regular drop %) x 0.2%) + (250(# W/increased %) x .3%) = 5.25 scrolls

So you would have to grind for 4 hours to get 1 additional scroll.

Edit #2: As stated by both /u/Karra_Masamune and /u/AleHaRotK the increase after all the bullshit % of % is a flat 5%, same as it was before.
