Theorycraft Thursday - Discuss Builds, Skills, Strategies, and More!

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 01:00 AM PST

Welcome to Theorycraft Thursday, a community-building, regularly occurring thread in the subreddit!

MMO veterans will know that Theorycrafting is the core of many discussions about this genre of games, and ESO is no different.

With the high level of variance in builds, skills, and stats, there's plenty of room for Theorycrafting, and we want to see what you have to share with the community on that front.

Have a build you've experimented with? A particular skill or set of skills that synergize well? A strategy for PvE or PvP that works to great effect? Share it here!

If you're new, you can also use this thread to ask questions about viable builds and skills as well!

As always, please keep in mind our rules on the sidebar, especially the one about 'no personal attacks, callouts, rude behavior, or other such disrespectful content'.

Disagree respectfully and know that everyone has different ideas and playstyles that suit them.

I went back to WoW

Posted: 17 Jan 2018 08:49 AM PST

...and immediately returned to ESO.

I loved WoW playing it for 5 years (from 2012 MoP up until Legion 2017). The new patch 7.3.5 came out yesterday and it introduced a (limited) version of world scaling that allowed you to finish all quests without losing XP and picking which XPAC you wanted to play through. I thought this was great and gets WoW closer to where ESO is, and since I played it for so long let me go back and see if I have a better experience.

Well I have been tainted. I logged onto my Level 12 Blood Elf Warrior and continued my adventure in Ghostlands. Found my quest to kill 4 of these and off I went. Thats when it went south for me.

I saw the mob from afar, pressed my button to switch weapons from sword to bow.. cant do that. Ok. I charge the mob whacking it with my sword I tried to get behind it but strafed instead.. oh yeah I have to HOLD right mouse button to look. The mobs do take a whille longer to die than one-shotting which is good, but I still never felt threatned. Yawning another mob came from behind. I double tapped A to dodge... cant do that either. Finally killing 4 mobs I go to turn my quest in. I wait to hear how I have saved them.. oh yeah I have to read it. Im sorry. /Exit

I sign back into ESO after that experience, back in Grahtwood as my Redguard StamDK with double hand Axe and bow, helping the elves. I see 3 mo-- elves huddled in a corner. I let loose a hail of arrows. The mage starts shooting bolts of ice, while two swordsmen approach. I dodge the ice, I dragon leap to the mage and pound him, take his remaining health with a poison arrow. I turnaround to face the swordsmen to instinctively block the incoming blow. I knock him to the ground, drop another hail of arrows. They are chipping at my health but I drink a health potion I made. As the arrows from above eat their health I finish them off strafing with light shots.

Thats when i realized ESO is an infinitely better experience all around than WoW... for a person like me... who loves an immersive RPG where every fight requires attention (well, at least at my level 46).

I know Battle for Azeroth is coming soon, but I don't know if I can ever go back. Shame on you ZOS! Stopping me from playing a game I once loved for something I now love more.

...but who here remembers moving high DOS to low DOS in order to get Arena running after the install from a STACK of floppy disks? Each time I log into ESO I am surprised at how far TES has come...

Its been a heck of a ride and I have loved every moment (even Battlespire!)

Idea: Weekly zones

Posted: 17 Jan 2018 12:20 PM PST

When comparing ESO to other MMOS it really does a great job in A LOT of regards. But one thing I think they should really implement is the concept of weekly zones.

The idea Every weekly reset a one of the many zones in the world is designated the Weekly zone. In the Weekly zone there is a bonus of some sorts, something that's attractive to players of all levels (bonus exp in combination with transmutation crystal drops and bonus gold, or whatever) with the purpose of making that zone lively again for a week.

Benefits: - It will help people find a group for public dungeons - It will help people finish of those last world bosses - There will always be at least one zone that feels bustling with life

So, what do you think? Destiny 2 has this feature, but very light weight and it really livens that zone up for a week.

Vampire Unnatural Resistance Question

Posted: 17 Jan 2018 05:29 PM PST

The vampire passive called "unnatural resistance" claims to "reduce the severity of the health recovery deterrent in vampirism stages 2 through 4."

I checked the passive on the character sheet before and after applying a skill point to this passive and the health regeneration was 75% slower each time. Essentially, the passive didn't make a difference. I am stage 4, if that helps. Someone please explain how I'm wrong or tell me that there's a fix coming soon.

Post patch MagBlade staves?

Posted: 17 Jan 2018 09:06 PM PST

Sorry if this is beating a dead horse but I'm trying to avoid investing rosin into something that won't be best within a month.

Best prediction, if ZOS stays the off-balance course, will double inferno be effective?

Magicka DK Rotation

Posted: 18 Jan 2018 02:57 AM PST

Guys I have a question about Magicka DK rotation, normally my way,

Elemantal Drain (1 GCD) - 22s Eruption (1 GCD) - 15s duration LA (1 GCD) Wall of Elements (1 GCD) - 10s Light Attack (1 GCD) Burning Embers (1 GCD) - 10s LA (1 GCD) Engulfing Flames (1 GCD) -10s LA (1 GCD) Oblivion (1 GCD) -15s LA (1 GCD)

I wrote above the duration of skills and my assumption that Global Cooldown that 1s is, my problem is if I Light Attack between the main skills the moment I finish my first rotation I have to re-apply the part Wall of Element -> LA -> Burning Ambers -> LA -> Engulfing Flames directly, which left me no opening to use heavy attacks to restore Magicka...

So my question, am I doing wrong, is it better to

Eruption -> Wall of Elements -> Burning Embers -> Engulfing Flames -> Oblivion -> HA -> HA -> HA

I know before resource management changes LA between skills was really important but now should I switch to 2nd variation?

I have the feeling in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TVzjVafG1Q&t=1s he is also dumping first all skills then using heavy attacks to restore magicka but of course it is hard to say

Thx for answers...

Is jewelcrafting ever going to be implemented into the game so that we can craft and upgrade rings and necklaces?

Caster Weapons

Posted: 17 Jan 2018 09:42 AM PST

When I play a stam character I can switch from dual wield to bow, sword and shield to two handed, etc and always feel like my playstyle switches a bit with it.

I wish there was more variety for weapons that Magicka users could use besides staves. Scepters and shield, magical focus, or something.
