Temporary changes to the Sub rules during the upcoming Blog Post. Operation ‘Lock Down’ inbound

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 01:15 PM PST

Hey Guardians,

New information is upon us, excitement and F5'ing is at fever pitch so we're going to enforce some temporary rules to help stem the flow and allow for the best experience for all of us

When the 2 update posts are published by Bungie we will be LOCKING the Sub for 30 minutes to allow posting to be pointed towards the Megathreads that will be the Bungie blogs for immediate Feedback

Whats this all about?

We are waiting on word from the directors of the game regarding the direction the game will take from now on and also a "This Week at Bungie" blog article.

This week at Bungie determines the week(s) ahead and the Blog update from the directors will address community feedback and provide details on the state of the game moving forwards

Following re-opening of the Sub when the 30 minutes has passed, conversation will still be directed to the Megathread unless posts of a HIGH QUALITY are made. This will be determined at the discretion of the Moderators. Any Low effort / Low quality posts will be removed as per Rule 2 and re-directed to the active Blog Post Megathreads.

If you have any questions during this, please send us a Modmail

Bungie Plz Addition: Buff the Dragonfly Perk or Bring Back Firefly

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:10 AM PST

Howdy Guardians,

This change has been added to Bungie Plz.
Going forward, all posts suggesting this change will be removed and redirected to this Megathread.

Submitted by: /u/cyborganthro

Date approved: 2018-01-11

Modmail Discussion:

/u/cyborganthro:

Additional threads about firefly and interrelated the lack of good perks and mods in D2:

1 2 3

Why it should be added:

Most people seem to agree that the player does not feel as powerful in D2 as they did in D1, in part because guns have fewer perk slots, and most individual perks are weaker than before. Dragonfly was an obvious downgrade from Firefly, in terms of damage, blast radius, and even visceral satisfaction (its sound and visual effects have also been minimized, though this is the least urgent factor). Firefly was a fun, satisfying and rewarding perk, but Dragonfly feels weak and remains underused. Boosting Dragonfly or reintroducing fun and powerful perks like Firefly would bring some much needed weapon diversity to D2. Right now, nothing can match hte damage output and utility of Explosive Payloads in PvE, and Firefly was never an important perk in PvP, so it won't cause Crucible imbalances. Explosive Payloads will remain useful given the plethora of enemy shields and its abililty to bypass damage dropoff. A sensibly-buffed Firefly perk would not become the new dominant perk, but merely offer new options and playstyles. (Firefly encourages headshots, while explosive payloads seems to reward lazier or "anti-skillful" gameplay). Help me Bungie-wan Kenobi, bring back Firefly!

/u/MetalGilSolid:

Looks good, thanks! I'll add it sometime tomorrow.

Examples given: 1, 2, 3

Criteria Used:

"...3 examples (with links) of recent submissions (with at least 1 being over 5 days old), that have been well received (hundreds of upvotes on the front page of the sub - ex. 300+ upvotes)."

I don't mind joining strikes in progress, but I hate running a mile to join my fireteam.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:45 AM PST

Joining strikes in progress usually spawns the player a long distance from the rest of the fireteam. This is especially annoying when you have to traverse the Infinite Forest on your own. Spawn joining guardians on the other players or add a couple points in the strike that will teleport others forward like the boss encounter does.

D2 Emblem Wallpapers [12 Wallpapers]

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 08:45 AM PST

Hey Guardians!

I guess some of you remember me from the Destiny Emblem Wallpapers that was a success and I'm thankful for everyone words.

Since D2 released I did nothing but play the game (like everyone else) but now that we're crossing the desert I decided that it's the best time to start this huge project that is the transformation of all the emblems from D2 in wallpapers for your desktops and mobiles. I've made a few already and thought it would be nice to share today since we're all waiting for some good news.

I hope you guys enjoy

You know, if Raid Lairs are easier and faster to make than Full Raids like Leviathan I wouldn't mind just a bunch of Raid Lairs on multiple worlds.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 04:38 AM PST

Plus when I just have to focus on one boss it makes things so much easier!

I haven't gotten to beat the actual Leviathan Raid, but the first time I did Eater of Worlds I beat it with my Raid Team.

Argos is a really fun boss and not hard to understand either. It also doesn't feel like it's impossible at times, more just like a challenge.

I think I like these smaller raids much more too!

But those are my thoughts. What do you Guardians think? Do you want larger raids like Leviathan or more of the smaller Raid Lairs like Eater of Worlds?

EDIT: Of course I want them to still make Large Raids! I, meaning me, just personally, again me, like the smaller raids more.

Would you sacrifice possibly months of unbalance in the crucible and pve for Primary Secondary and Heavy slots?

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 11:18 AM PST

If they quickly changed it so Primary, Secondary, and Heavy slots again would yall be happy to play with an unbalanced game until they balance it or would yall rather play like it is now and possibly wait months before a completely balanced system is in place?

EDIT: Wow this post really blew up. Anyway I gotta say I thought it would be a sea of just yes but its been pretty split. Some people have brought up good points about how it wouldn't be as easy as we think to just consolidate all the primarys in one slot and the rest in secondary and heavy. One person pointed out the problem that if we transferred all primaries into one slot the vault space would be a major problem. I saw this somewhere else on this subreddit so don't credit me on this buy what if there were 4 slots: Kinetic, Energy, Special, and Heavy. I liked the idea of an energy slot but i don't like the idea of having special and heavy in one slot. Thoughts?

EDIT 2: Because of all the great feedback and suggestions thought id go ahead and tag the community managers /u/deej_bng /u/dmg04 /u/cozmo23

Turning a PE Heroic no longer matters because the incentives have been taken away.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 06:46 AM PST

I was just doing the EDZ milestone and I got frustrated when the BBs didn't turn the PE Heroic but then I realized, does it even matter? There are barely any rewards and the exotic chance has been gutted so what's the point? Yeah, heroics count more towards the milestone but regular PEs can be done more rapidly so that really negates the percentage contribution towards the milestone.

Edit 1: The number one thing I'm seeing is "Clan XP" and that's fine but really doesn't matter much to a solo player. I'm getting one token on most locations either way which allow to me get packages from outdated vendors. The legendary drop rate or exotic drop rate has to be increased or maybe getting tokens for a real vendor like the gunsmith which could enable us to buy mods or masterwork cores or something worth while would be much better.

I think the weapon manufacturers could really do with some exotic quests. Who wouldn’t love a Hakke, Omolon and Suros questline with something mega at the end?!

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 12:58 PM PST

I don't know why but I love the Hakke weapons in this game and always have done.

Would love to flesh out some story and get an exotic questline on the go.

Maybe gathering special materials, taking it to an abandoned weapons factory in the EDZ, fighting off hordes of enemies to reclaim it and then forging some mega auto rifle.

You could do the same with all the other manufacturers with their own spin, would add a lot and be pretty fun I reckon.

Or another one could be there's a legendary heavy weapon that was said to be really powerful but has now fallen into the wrong hands. You've got to find and defeat the boss who now has it. When you do your guardian takes it from their hands and it becomes yours.

Loads of potential.

Something really needs to be done about the Mercy Rule. Just went 2-62 (team were 3 vs a whole clan) until it actually activated.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 06:07 AM PST

Really, I understand the matchmaking in Quickplay isn't the most.. balanced. But to counteract that, please make the Mercy rule stricter.

Or atleast more consistant. I just don't understand how sometimes it will activate at 30-1 and not activate at 30-2.

Forbes: Five Things Bungie Needs To Address About 'Destiny 2' Today

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 07:33 AM PST

Five Things Bungie Needs To Address About Destiny 2 Today

My list would be different:

  1. Shorter power cooldowns
  2. 6v6
  3. Real armor perks
  4. Stronger weapon perks (better guns)
  5. More powerful mod system for almost all the gear

Thoughts?

EDIT: Somebody asked what specific perks I would like. Here you go:

Specifically, I want armor perks such as these:

  • Faster reload on Titan (arms)
  • Greater melee resistance in crucible (chest)
  • Faster sprint when super activated (legs)
  • Triple jump in the Raid Lair (boots)

Gun perks like these:

  • Radar always active in crucible
  • Bullets explode when close to target in the raid
  • Heal 1 point per each hit in a strike

These could just as easily be put in mods instead.

Prestige nightfall "Inverted Spire" boss spawn killed in 7 seconds.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 07:24 AM PST

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keBD5BdoScU

After opting for 2 nighthawks for the regular nightfall, i decided to change things up for a warlock with empowering rift and this was the end result.

and no, the regular and the prestige aren't "exactly the same" as prestige has a 25% boost to the boss's health and a 6% dmg reduction to guardian.

Setup was....

1 nighthawk ( super / rockets)

1 devour lock ( super / rockets)

1 sunbreaker (melting point / shotgun)

I propose an addition to my favorite exotic armor, the Lion Rampants.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 09:03 AM PST

So currently the Lion Rampant are not anything special. They increase the amount of time you can glide in the air. I love this, it works for me, but its still just a meh perk in most peoples opinion. I propose one of the following changes:

Add the ability to shoot while gliding or jumping. The warlock has a perk like this and I don't think it would be hard to implement. This also makes sense with the armors look, its got those jet engines. Not only this, but Bungie likes to add super perks from one class as an exotic ability to another class.

or

Give it the Twilight Garrison perk. This also makes sense with the jet engines. Little boost to airborne mobility. This also makes it so that I don't have to look so bulky when they eventually release it again in Destiny 2.

Hello, 1st post. Why is it that, in Public World Events, do we complete the encounter for only 1 token? I have been getting more from normal World chests.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 11:18 AM PST

Why go through the trouble of chasing these Public events around the map if they reward literally 1 coin. I have gotten Legendaries and many blues from normal chests.

Am I supposed to pop some type of consumable to make them more rewarding?

No Idea what I am doing wrong.

Much Appreciated.

Armor aesthetics kind of suck in D2

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 12:00 AM PST

As a freshy PC player that never got the chance to play D1, I have recently been looking into all the lore, guns, items, etc., and D1 armor was pretty fucking cool. It has its share of meh, but for the most part everything looks pretty awesome. D2 on the other hand, with all its reskins and frump, especially in comparison, kind of sucks...

I don't understand what happened in the design department between the two games that made armor sets so much worse.

Reloading is for suckers. Fun with Auto-reload perks.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 09:42 AM PST

So, just for funsies I consolidated all the guns I own that can reload themselves (or each other), and spent a few hours doing Heroic Strikes to see how they all actually feel. I've put together some combinations that allow you to completely avoid ever having to wait through a reload animation. I'm not including Pulse Monitor or Grave Robber guns here because they're too situational to really rely on as a Strategy.

Observations and thoughts below.

Power Weapons

So, to start with, you only have a few options for Power Weapons, but the options you have are all good ones. For Exotics you have The Colony or The Wardcliff Coil. I'm a BIG fan of the Colony in PvP, and it's not bad in strikes either, since you don't have to put nearly as much care and attention into making sure your grenades actually go where you need them. The Wardcliff is here on a technicality since it will only reload if you walk over ammo with the weapon equipped, as opposed to reloading itself while you're using other guns like most of the rest of these. I'm not a huge fan of it just because your damage output is so dependent on range control, but lots of guardians swear by it.

If you don't want to go with The Colony, you have a number of Legendary options for Grenade Launchers too. We'll start with The Wicked Sister and Berenger's Memory. The main difference between the two is that Berenger's gives you the option of Sticky Grenades (better for bosses) where Wicked Sister has delayed detonation (better for adds). ~~Berenger's is an IB weapon from Season 1, so if you don't have one you're probably out of luck. ~~ EDIT: Think I assumed just from the name that Berenger's was an IB weapon.

Although it's not available yet, the new IB launcher ALSO has autoreload, and is a variant of the Flashbang/Concussion type of launcher. I haven't tried one of these so I can't speak to their effectiveness in strikes, but I'll give it a shot once IB rolls back around in a week or two.

There's ALSO the I am Alive launcher from the Raid Lair, which really doesn't have anything to recommend it over the Wicked Sister except for Extended Mag.

There's also a fair bit of choice when it comes to Shotguns, with Retrofuturist and Zenith of Your Kind. Zenith (from the Raid Lair) is obviously the better choice of the two with both Full Auto AND a second Auto-Reload perk when you're wounded (which you generally will be when you're going HAM with a shotgun), but Retrofuturist has good stats too and is much easier to acquire.

For Fusion Rifles you have Cartesian Coordinate and Nox Veneris II. I prefer Veneris because while the Cartesian hits harder, it also has some of the worst Range and Stability stats you can find on a voop gun.

The legendary option most of you are probably already using is Sins of the Past. Sadly, I don't have one of these, but it's just about the perfect all-around Power Weapon choice with the combination of autoreload AND cluster bomb. I really need to get back into the Leviathan at some point…

Finally, you probably don't want to use a Sniper Rifle in strikes, but if you did the only option is The Belfry Bounty. It's actually not bad as Snipers go, with a 5 round mag if you take the Extended Mag perk, which you should, because how often is Armor Piercing going to pay off?

Kinetic and Energy

Ok, that was fun, let's talk about Kinetics and Energy weapons now. I'm going to present these in pairs because the choices available sort of require it. I hope you like semi-auto weapons, because that's mostly what you're limited to if you want to go down this road.

First and foremost, we've got Sturm and Drang. These two were made for the "I never have to reload" game, and are a lot of fun. Using them effectively requires a bit more work than most of the other options because these guns reload each other, rather than themselves, and require you to actually get kills to get the reloads. That said, the synergy between the two is great fun, especially since getting kills with Drang not only refills Sturm's mag, but ALSO increases your precision damage.

Otherwise, you have several combinations of Hand Cannons and Scout Rifles to work with.

For Hand Cannons, you have West of Sunfall 7 in the Kinetic slot and Deadelus Code in the Energy slot. I know a lot of people were disappointed in West of Sunfall and while it's not awesome, it's not bad either and feels pretty crisp. Yeah, it's not Better Devils, but never having to reload is worth something too. Deadelus Code is nice because it has one of the biggest magazines you can find on a Hand Cannon, so between that and the autoreload, you're shooting for literally days.

EDIT: Brought to my attention I neglected Crimson. Although it reloads on kills, rather than while holstered, it's easy enough to get the kills you need that you can fire the Crimson for an awfully long time before you have to reload. Doesn't QUITE hit the "Never need to watch a reload animation." mark, but worth noting nonetheless.

For Scout Rifles, you have three choices. Song of Justice VI, Contingency Plan, and The End. The bad news here is that all of these are Season 1 weapons from New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, and Trials, respectively. Song is the hardest hitting of the three, but also has an unusually small magazine, even for a high-impact scout. The End is a solid Energy Scout in the mid-impact archetype, but it's the Contingency plan that is the most fun of the three, with full auto and the largest magazine you can find in a scout rifle.

I do have to make an honorable mention here though for Riskrunner, which is one of my favorite exotics full stop. The Arc Conductor perk turns this into a MONSTER DPS tool any time you've got incoming arc damage to make use of, which if we're being honest is more often than not, especially on any of the strikes with Vex Milk lying around on the ground. Failing that, throw a pulse grenade on the ground and stand in it for a moment. Cheesy maybe, but SUPER effective. Someone at Bungie needs to have a look at this gun and make ALL the exotics more like this one.

EDIT Adding a shoutout for the Actium War Rig (Titan), which reloads your equipped Auto Rifles, and Lucky Pants (Hunter), which reloads your holstered Hand Cannons. Warlocks sort of get screwed here because the Lunafaction Boots only work to reload everybody ELSE'S guns.

TLDR: There are a bunch of guns that reload themselves. Use them together for fun and profit and GUNZERKING.

The one thing that would make all of the current problems with the game ok with me - knowing that Bungie had resolved the fundamental problems with the game engine that had hampered the creation of new content

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 06:13 AM PST

See the infamous Kotaku article by Jason Schreier

https://kotaku.com/the-messy-true-story-behind-the-making-of-destiny-1737556731

It's widely know that the underlying tech is a big problem with updating and improving the game:

"It's not uncommon for a game's scope to reduce during development, but Bungie had a unique problem. People who worked on this project say that one of Bungie's fundamental issues over the past few years has been the game's engine, which the studio built from scratch alongside Destiny. Four sources pointed to Destiny's technology—the tools they use to design levels, render graphics, and create content—as an inhibiting factor in the game's development.

"Let's say a designer wants to go in and move a resource node two inches," said one person familiar with the engine. "They go into the editor. First they have to load their map overnight. It takes eight hours to input their map overnight. They get [into the office] in the morning. If their importer didn't fail, they open the map. It takes about 20 minutes to open. They go in and they move that node two feet. And then they'd do a 15-20 minute compile. Just to do a half-second change."

People who have worked with Destiny's tech say the company is capable of powering incredible things behind the scenes, like player matchmaking. It's also clear that Destiny is one of the best-looking video games ever made. But as a tool-set for designers, sources say, Destiny's engine is subpar, and creating new maps and missions at Bungie can be grueling for developers."

Seriously, I would be willing to accept the problems with endgame, regression since TTK, lack of content... all of it.

IF I knew that the developers had made those sacrifices in order to build a stable platform that could continue to grow for the next several years.

Edit: For people saying that this is impossible in this time frame, the problems I am talking about refer to Destiny 1, and have been known to be problems to Bungie since before the release of that game, so there is absolutely time for them to have fixed it in time for Destiny 2.

Edit 2: And here is famed gaming insider Shinobi602 talking about exactly this before D2's release.

https://www.neogaf.com/threads/kotaku-sources-destiny-2-coming-to-pc-update-loads-of-extra-info.1285379/page-3#post-218333036

This is not pie in the sky shit. This is a real question surrounding tech issues that the dev was known to be working on well in advance of release.

Gemini Jester should activate while Poledancing

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 04:40 AM PST

Like many Hunters missing the fun factor of D1's Bladedance, yesterday I was inspired by this great post that potentially can bring new life to the underused Arcstrider : https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/7pbkjb/tired_of_playing_the_same_old_crucible_meta/

I took this build into the Crucible, and OP was right, it is super fun. Prime with a grenade, dodge then melee to death. Rinse and repeat.

But to my big surprise, Gemini Jester doesn't activate when you're in your super. I think it's a missed opportunity that, if fixed, could bring the underused Arcstrider a new life in PVP. It would allow to channel our inner Darth Maul and wreak havoc at the same level the other Arc subclasses can.

Thoughts ?

Raid highlight from a mostly solo player

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 12:52 PM PST

This week the last 6-8 active guardians in my clan decided to set a weekly raid night, instead of all playing solo. I hate LFG for the most part, so this is perfect for me.

Most of us have only cleared the raid 1-2 times. A couple never finished or weren't familiar with the mechanics. No problem, we can just teach/learn this week.

The entire first night was spent teaching and practicing the Gauntlet, then a couple quick attempts at Pleasure Gardens. The next night we thought we would knock out Pleasure Gardens and Royal Baths, then spend time teaching Calus.

Well, Pleasure Gardens took all night too. Between glitchy dogs, no immediately clear and strong leader on the ground (the person who volunteered for it did great btw), some router issues, and whatever else, we just weren't getting it. I really thought I'd wasted my whole evening.

Finally, we do good damage all around on the first phase, and get lucky spore spawns in the second. We are all screaming "KILL THE DOGS!!" as we scramble to our assigned spot. I kill mine in trees, and ask if L1/L3 need help, all according to plan. They both say their dog is dead. I start moving towards right side as they too give confirmation their dog is dead. We did it!

But it's not ending. We are all frantically asking who needs help. What's still lurking out there? No one knows.

Then I see it. One filthy dog with a sliver of health, begging for treats from its handler. I desperately smash on the trigger, but the handler is partially blocking my path. The wipe screen hits and everyone dies....... INCLUDING THE DOG. The screen changes again and it's a clear!

What a rush. As someone who hardly touched raids in D1, coming through in the final second to clinch it for my team feels amazing. I don't even care that the chest dropped my third Conspirator (... I care a little), that moment was so satisfying.

I've only done half of the first Raid in Destiny 2 and one Nightfall.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 04:22 AM PST

I was just wondering how many other people are in the same boat as me?

Yes, I'm in a clan but it's US-based. Yes, I could find a UK / EU clan and/or use the various third party sites but the fact remains that I should be able to jump into the game, queue for a fireteam then spend hours trying and the various aspects of a Raid or Nightfall.

Half the fun of these experiences is attempting the mechanics with strangers and, as a result, making new friends.

But ultimately it's having a reason to log in and play, again.

I've not logged in since just before Christmas and that makes me sad.
