According to Jason Schreier of Kotaku there was a big reboot of the development of Destiny 2 sometime in early 2016.

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 04:27 AM PST

Jason Schreier recently said this on the DTR Podcast. Here is the link to what he said: https://youtu.be/A_Z0RgwFnAc?t=14m53s

Here is the exact quote for people that can't listen to the full podcast:

I think that it (Destiny 2) was made in a relatively short period of time. There was a big reboot of Destiny 2 at some point of early 2016. There had been a previous director who was directing the game before Luke Smith (who's the current director) took over. So that guy was kind of put aside and Luke Smith took over. I believe that was in April of 2016 but I might be misremembering. Don't hold me to that exact line. So if you think about it that way then they didn't really have a ton of time. It had been a 16 months period between the reboot and when the game finally shipped.

He also talked about how Eververse came to existence. He said:

What Bungie decided was we can't do this any more this is too hard for us to do (referring to releasing a DLC every few months) the tools that we're working with are really hard to deal with. it's hard for us to make this much content. it's just hard to make content in general. And they said we're going to do a smaller or drip feed of smaller stuff and we're going to put up the Eververse and make money that way, and Activision said okay. it was a part of their renegotiated deal and they got to a point where they didn't have to be cranking up so much content

This is just unbelievable and it really goes to show that Bungie does not learn for their mistakes.

If rebooting the development of Destiny 1 didn't work out well fot you then why the hell did you guys think that it would be an amazing idea to reboot the development of Destiny 2??

Timerless Nightfall, Please

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 05:34 AM PST

I miss being able to try to solo a nightfall by taking my time and moving slowly. This was a fun tactical thing for me to do when I was too intoxicated or uninterested in finding a fireteam online. I hope Bungie is willing to bring this small feature back at some point. I know I'll die on the boss, but that's okay.

Alternative Wording: Don't have activities without matchmaking and then make it almost impossible to solo due to artificial time constraints

Why do we have to rely on third party apps for basic necessities such as matchmaking, vault management, custom loadouts, and clan chat?

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 08:21 AM PST

Things like this should be in the game. Why do I have to leave the game and go on a different device in order to talk to clan mates? Why cant I set a loadout in game? And why the hell do I have to use third party app to matchmake for something I have to do weekly? The division has matchmaking for Incursions and challenging missions. Why not destiny

Can we please go back to the quest system like we had in The Taken King?

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 08:46 AM PST

So I am sure this has been mentioned already ad nauseam, but I would love for Destiny 2 to go back to the awesome quest system we had when The Taken King expansion was released. There were a total of I think 85 quests to do. The calcified fragments to collect, Sword quests (I know those were a bitch, but made it feel rewarding when getting them), and so many countless things to do in the game at that time. I know most of my thousands of hours were probably spent in the TTK expansion alone.

Now in D2, I am left with a few milestones a week that I can do in a single day and then left with nothing to do until next Tuesday reset. It is really mind boggling that D2 has regressed this far. In my opinion, they should have never done multiple Destiny games, and mimic the tried and true gold standard, World of Warcraft, and just continue having expansions without upsetting the apple cart. So many things have been taken away or restricted in D2, it is ridiculous.

Here's hoping for good changes to come in the future.

TL;DR: Bungie, please go back to the quest system of The Taken King and give us more rewarding and redeeming quests for loot.

I really miss Int/Dex/Str and armor perks

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 08:04 AM PST

Seriously playing D1 last night I forgot how much control I had over my play style and I really miss it.

I think bringing these stats back could solve a lot of the issues with the power fantasy.

[D1] To anyone who still plays D1 or wants to try it out.

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 07:51 AM PST

/r/DestinyLegacy

We have weekly reset / Xur threads, T12 armour / god roll vendor weapons, discord servers for PS4 & Xbox One so that we can organise raids etc without having to use LFG (360 and PS3 have their own Discord severs too I believe), we have a friendly community and the best part is that it's salt free!

Xbox One Discord: https://discord.gg/EZ7ca8t I'll get the PS4 discord and add it here ASAP. Edit: I'm still waiting for the PS4 discord, thanks for your patience guardians.

Newer guardians are more than welcome (if you started at D2 and are thinking of picking up D1 then I highly recommend purchasing it, the game with all of the expansions is available for a very reasonable price if you look online instead of buying it straight from the PSN / Xbox stores and there's so much content to get through in D1). I've helped a bunch of kinderguardians through raids over the last couple of months, plus there's always us veteran players who squad up to smash Atheon or Oryx into the dust.

Also for anyone wondering, you'll never struggle to find PvP games, matchmake for strikes or PoE, the social spaces are very active too, this game is not dead, far from it. (Disclaimer: Sometimes it may take a few minutes to find a PvP game).

I understand the frustrations irt D2, all we ask is that you don't bring it over to this sub or turn the discord servers into a pissing contest. Thank you.

Hope to see more of you soon!

(Mods, if this post is a duplicate or whatever then you can take it down).

Does Sniper really need that excessive flinch even though it is now in power slot?

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 04:42 AM PST

Can't Bungie consider the fact that Sniper are now in power slot and don't need that excessive flinch they put in D1 anymore? How does that carry forward from D1 but not QoL changes?

Short Term solution for Eververse idea: Let other activities drop Bright Dust

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 05:17 AM PST

I hate Eververse don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's ever going to get removed. Just a small idea for Bungie to think about:

Let other activies drop Bright Dust, like Heroic (and Nightfall) Strikes, Raids or prestige Lost Sectors and expand what you can buy at Eververse via Bright Dust at the same time.

This is a short term solution though. Long term D2 has to change quite substantially. Just my two glimmer.

Edit: Grammar

Edit2: This is a good discussion to be had, even if you don't agree. I'm not quite sure myself, all I wanted was the dawning armor for my Hunter and this is what I came up with. There is currently no other way to get a full armor set in limited time events than to pray to RNGesus or throw unlimited amounts of money at your screen. I hate seasons and all kinds of exclusive loot with a passion now because of this game.

Bungie please make Brother Vance sell the forge weapons after you get them.

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 12:24 AM PST

I dismantled the auto rifle by mistake and now I have to pray to the rng gods for it to drop from a random engram. Maybe have them on rotation as you unlock them like other vendors. I would do the verse again if I could, alas it's not possible. QQ

Edit: I appreciate the tips for locking the gear I wanna keep, that being said I already knew how to, I just screwed up and didn't locked it this time. What can I say, mistakes were made. 😕

And please don't mistake this post as a call for less grind. I liked the grind for these weapons and I want more of it. One thing that motivated me to keep grinding was that it didn't matter if I played 30 mins or 5 hours I always saw some kind of progress, but now if I want to get the weapon again I'm at the mercy of rng. I could spend weeks grinding for it and never get it and that's just not fun when it's something I already grinded for.

They added prophecies in Inventory for CoO why didn’t they do the same for quests like Acrius, Miss etc

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 07:25 AM PST

If we go by the rules and deadlines of how Bungie plans out games they had CoO stuff in mind during D2 development so why doesn't Quests go in the inventory like prophecies do?

Remember when Banshee (The Gunsmith) actually sold weapon blueprints?

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 09:11 AM PST

Think back to Destiny. Were you there since the beginning like me?

Okay, so we didn't have a story but we had an ever expanding world of DLCs, weapons and armor sets from new raids and hidden quests. Oh yeah, I almost forgot...

BANSHEE USED TO SELL ARMS DAY PACKAGES FOR WEAPONS EVERY WEEK THAT YOU COULD BUY AND WAIT TO TURN IN FOR A ROLL YOU LIKED. 3 UNIQUE ROLLS PER WEAPON, PER WEEK.

If this change to Destiny 2 alone doesn't convince you that this game is lazy, watered down, uninspired and designed simply to lure in new players and fool existing loyalists, myself included, to make Eververse the be all end all easy way to make more money... Maybe this list of missing elements from Destiny will:

1) Shaders that are kiosked and limitless in their use

2) Raid weapons AND armor with perks geared to help you in said raid and when doing certain types of activities

3) Random rolls on loot

4) Rerolling weapons (masterworks are close but by no means the same)

5) Exotic swords

6) Questification (their word for The Taken King's thoughtful progression system)

7) Bounties

8) Exotic weapon bounties

9) Heroic strike modifiers and score cards

10) Sparrow Racing

11) Crimson Doubles

12) Festival of the Lost

13) Factions that are always available to join and earn rewards from

14) More than 2 skill trees!!!

15) Record books tracking our progress

16) Hidden ghost, Siva Clusters, Calcified Fragments

17) Hidden side mission like the one for Black Spindle

18) Gjallahorn or its equal

19) Elemental kinetic weapons

20) Court of Oryx, Prison of elders etc

21) Heavy Machine Guns

22) Being able to choose your Strike, Mission or PVP game mode

23) Private PVP matches

24) Rumble

25) 6 vrs 6 or 3 vrs 3 PVP game modes

What am I missing? Please comment and I will add to this non-exhaustive list.

Thank you for reading and making the community and Bungie aware that we deserve SO MUCH BETTER.

"We’re the ones that assign value." - PA

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 08:45 AM PST

This perfectly sums up what went wrong with D2. It's from Tycho's Penny Arcade on Monday - here's the full quote discussing the possibility of a sequel to the Division (he doesn't mention Destiny specifically but i think it's there between the lines):

"When the time comes for a sequel - and the 1.8 patch is the best marketing they could have possibly offered - they need to see what's worked and what hasn't when it comes to MMO sequels. There's no WoW 2, and there never will be. Don't wreck my shit and destroy New York or whatever; it's already wrecked and I just got done fixing it the best I could. Don't take the statue and then try to replace it with something of equal weight - you don't know what weighs what. We're the ones that assign value. Have faith in the game that drew us to you, and we can make this thing work as long as we want it to."

Bolded the part that I think really applies to what went wrong in Destiny 2. Other than the perfect Indiana Jones reference, this is really the heart of the matter: we as players assign value to things in games. As we play it, we decide (both consciously and unconsciously) what we enjoy and what doesn't work. We then tend to either keep playing or stop playing based on those values. It's something the devs can't necessarily see, but it's at the heart of what makes certain games classics while others fail.

In Destiny 2, we lost a lot of the things we valued and enjoyed. Some things are controversial and it's hard to get a full community read on - random rolls for example - but other things are clear player favorites. Heroic Strikes with old modifiers, Strike scoring, being able to choose your strike, being able to choose between multiple Crucible playlists, FEELING POWERFUL, etc.

Bungie needs to take a good look at what players really valued in Destiny and how we lost a lot of those things in D2. Because right now, the proverbial weight is all wrong and the boulder is on its way.

Check your ghosts before loading into a strike.

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 09:14 AM PST

While you're loading into a strike, if you look at your ghosts, you'll be able to determine which planet the strike takes place on.

This is during the phase where your ship appears to be flying in "warp drive" before the planet loads into view. If you go to your inventory and check your ghosts, you'll see that the planet-related perks for the respective space rock you're loading into will be lit up, while other ghosts will have their perk text still greyed out.

Sure, this saves you maybe 5 seconds of your life, but just a little bit of SGA amidst the salt.

Second last weekend, three years in 145,035

16 weeks after TTK - 504,605

16 weeks after RoI - 304,515

Bungie: Change Ghosts

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 12:37 AM PST

The Ghost(s) are our companions that are with us from the start, they see new places, scan new things and learn as we do. Should this not be reflected? Why not replace perks on shells with skills on Ghosts? If my Ghost has scanned 100 resources on Nessus, he should be able to alert me to them (like the perk). Give them skill trees for detection (resources), progression (XP) and profit (more glimmer/items/whatnot). This way we could have the shells we like, would not have to switch between shells and shells between characters all the time and perrhaps most important: We would get the feeling that this is indeed OUR ghost, not some replaceable gadget.

I am worried about this dude.

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 04:37 AM PST

So, a couple days ago I was on Titan farming public events, going back and forth over and over between Spider tanks and Hive rituals, you know how that goes.

After a while, I started noticing a titan named UrbanAgent standing on a ledge near one of the event areas; he was just standing there, not participating in the events happening right in front of him at all. Occasionally a Fallen ship would shoot at him, de-aggro and leave (and that paired with events triggering so frequently over there were probably the reason why he hadn't been kicked for inactivity yet). I didn't think much of it, I just figured he was AFK and just went on with my day.

Fast-forward to today, I landed on Titan to farm some more and lo and behold, I found UrbanAgent again; he was standing exactly in the same spot he was in 2 days ago - and I mean exactly, same weapons equipped, same armor, same position and everything - still not moving. Here's a screenshot of him I took a few minutes ago: https://imgur.com/a/CzB1R .

Now, I get that this dude could've just been sitting there in the event area to rack up XP but...2 whole days, probably more, just to fill in that yellow bar using the most inefficient and painfully slow method ever? That doesn't sound right...

If you're on PC (American region on Battlenet), I invite you to fly over to Titan and see for yourself. You can keep fast-traveling to Siren's Watch to reload your instance and it might put you into this lobby.

I really hope this dude is just the biggest AFK player of all time and nothing actually happened to him :l
