I guess it makes sense, as you get all their base stats/values and hex sets their base to 150 (i think, something like that), but still...Also, i tried posting this on the main dota2 reddit but apparently i don't have enough karma

When do I buy sentries and try to deward vs saving my gold for an item?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 12:43 PM PST

I know all things are situational, but as of right now I have absolutely no sense of when is a good time to deward vs save gold. Do you only spend the gold when you absolutely know someone has warded a spot? Do you take a chance and see what you can find just by placing one?

Any advice is welcome

Why is free mango a thing in ranked games?

Is matchmaking still determined by your MMR or by your medal?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 08:00 AM PST

I played this game a few days ago and even though I'm a lowly Crusader 2 we had a Legend 1 somehow in our game. I haven't seen that big of a skill difference in my bracket ever and I'm honestly very confused by it. I've heard of things like this happening more in higher skill games (the opposite way around) with someone 2,000 less MMR matching with 6ks or something, but I still haven't seen this. Has anyone else experienced it in the lower brackets? I don't know if they ranked high somehow and lost a shit ton of games to get to our MMR or what. Their profile on OpenDota doesn't look particularly poor (even though this person had a very poor and toxic performance in the game.)

LPT: If you're a support player and want a 2nd support, mark the jungle ASAP. Another teammate will be forced be pick support, and then you can pick support too as intended.

Coaching video. Vengeful spirit safelane support. Timings, warding to condition objectives, and when to leave lane.

Question about new MMR system

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 03:42 PM PST

So I hadn't played dota for about a year, was around 3100 before I stopped. Just finished calibrating and got archon 4, im not sure how the two compare though. I would assume my skill had decreased since I last played, does anyone know the conversion/ranges?

Dealing with morphling

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 05:17 AM PST

How do you deal with a morphing in pubs?

He hits bloody hard, is pretty much unkillable before lategame when your carry can outdps morph HP gain.

Every game Ive played against morph recently he's become an unstoppable monster in the midgame. The only times we won was when mid snowballed even harder as e.g. Storm, or oddly enough, because our 5th pos SD fucked him up. Those illusions just tore his team apart.

He is impossible to lane against as an offlane after a few minutes because he hits so hard and denies mean the offlane gets no levels. But even if you abandon lane and make kills happen on the map a freefarm morph will just wreck you in the midgame. His presence just feels constantly strong.

I think I've won about 20% games against him recently.

I often play 1 or 2, but play anything needed so interested in pick counters.

SD, ET and AA are the obvious ones for supports. What about cores? AM isn't good any more now he doesn't even need mana. I guess i should learn underlord for offlane. What about 1 and 2 heroes?

Is Crimson Guard's interaction with Visage as egregious as it seems or am I just overreacting?

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 07:05 PM PST

For those who aren't aware, Crimson guard makes familiars do 0 damage when active. Block applies before armor reductions as well, meaning that no matter what you do you physically cannot deal any damage with them.

Valve has been pretty consistent with dealing with brain dead counters in the past. Diffusal no longer instantly kills warlocks golems. Faceless void can move inside Rubick's chronosphere. Mkb is no longer a complete solution to evasion, and most importantly, Plague wards, serpent wards, and death wards are not blocked by crimson guard.

I'm failing to see how following this logic it makes any sense for Crimson guard to be such a open and shut counter with no trade offs. Sure you can ghost scepter or glimmer, but there are clear tradeoffs to these.

furthermore it affects buildings meaning that it is an incredible counter regardless of if you are playing rat Visage or fight Visage.

Finally, this means that getting kills as a Visage is a terrible idea, as building for your familiars is pointless and you might as well be building a better hero that can't be made useless by a 3500 gold item.

Fortunately crimson guard is rarely built, but until it will change it will always make Visage an incredibly niche hero. He's already dropped to a 1% pick rate and a win rate that fluctuates between 43 to 50% depending on how many people are playing him.

https://www.dotabuff.com/heroes/visage/trends

This is the worst Visage has ever been in terms of viability. Ice frog has balanced this hero in circles. At least in the past you could rely on his familiars surviving a fight. Now you can't even rely on them to do a point of damage. I've always played dota because everything is broken but this is the only time I've seen a single item completely nullify a hero.

Now I could be wrong, but I've been playing Visage on and off for a long time.

Thoughts? Advice? I'm watching my favorite hero get obliterated by crimson guard of all things.

Tips on multitrack as Bounty Hunter?

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 11:18 PM PST

Whenever I play BH, I feel like I'm just waiting to press E before an enemy dies. It's hard to get multiple tracks off before a teamfight.

How do I find my current mmr?

What to do when you don't have much support as a carry

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 02:42 AM PST

Often in pubs I find myself having to solo against the offlane as a carry, which often results in a losing lane and their offlane having more farm than me. What should I do in these situations to make the best of a bad situation?

Especially bad with weaker melee carries like spec.

Should I buy defensive items that normally aren't as strong on that hero just to stay alive? Like vanguard first on AM or spec just to be able to get cs?

Bottle in mid

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 05:53 AM PST

i've been playing quite a bit of SF mid and i've been skipping bottle this patch in favour of clarities and health regen if necessary.

when do you buy bottle as a mid ? what are the circumstances? it feels like 650 instead of for bottle instead of 13 clarities seems a bit wasteful of a slot to me

How do you play Morphling in 7.07c?

Posted: 10 Dec 2017 09:13 PM PST

What are the item/skill builds and playstyle, esp. in comparison to old Morph?

Adaptive strike seems possibly useful at lower levels now, and Morph is all funky. It seems like getting silenced and dying during Morph is also an issue (for me). I also don't know which targets to morph, and if you should still build eblade without the old replicate escape.
