In the comments below, you can look for a certain character's name. DO NOT USE UPVOTES TO VOTE CHARACTERS UP OR DOWN ON THE LIST! These act as discussion prompts, allowing people to talk about said characters. They can be used to talk about how good characters are in the meta, how these characters are played, how to play against these characters, and really anything else, as long as it's about the character listed and how they play in Smash 4. Try to keep conversation constructive! No opinions are wrong! There will also be a section to post your personal tier list, if you'd like to [link] [comments]
Thank you for supporting 2GG throughout the entire year! Posted: 04 Dec 2017 12:20 PM PST Hey All, Champ here from 2GG, On behalf of the team, we would like to thank everyone for supporting us and make this year possible. Everyone in the 2GG Team gave it our all to make all of this become a reality. From Genesis Saga all the way to the Championship, it has been a wild ride and even with all the obstacles and hurdles, we're very happy to be able to provide this for the community and gave the experience people wanted. Everyone in the community plays a big role in this:
The Championship was an amazing weekend for us and we hope the same for all of you. Once again, thank you. We would also like to give a special thanks to Red Bull for helping us return to melee this year. It was a goal we wanted to do for Phase 2 and with their support it was possible. As for 2018, we are finalizing the final details right now and will be announcing Phase 3 very soon so stay tune! It's pretty ambitious but we think the Smash Community will be very excited about it around the nation. [link] [comments]

Suggestion for Suar’s Segments at 2GGC Posted: 04 Dec 2017 03:37 PM PST Like most people, I loved the production value of 2GGC. This weekend definitely marked an advancement in terms of Smash 4 production. However, this does not mean everything was perfect, nor am I suggesting it should be on the 1st attempt. Suar's number desk (I have no clue what the actual title of this is) was a bit tough to follow and not all that engaging. I believe the main reason for this was the lack of visuals. Suar was giving great information that I think had the potential to give context to these sets that new/casual viewers may not have realized. This information was often missing the mark for me a lot of the time because there was nothing on the screen to serve as a companion to the information. As a teacher (Suar is as well I believe), I compare this to me trying to teach math without writing anything on the board for my students to follow. For example, at one point Suar was explaining how Leo's record against top players looks a lot better when you remove his sets with Zero. I get this point and I agree it's significant, but it would have had so much more impact if there was a side by side with Leo's actual record on one side and Leo's record minus the Zero sets on the other side. Like I said, I loved the production otherwise, but this is an area that I feel could be improved. I'm not sure how far in advance the segments were planned, but some of the ideas I suggested shouldn't take a ton of effort and would produce a much better product for new and old viewers. TLDR: Suar's statistics were awesome, but IMO they failed to achieve the desired impact due to lack of supporting visual aids. [link] [comments]
Who will be the highest ranked newcomer to the 2017 SSBMRank? Posted: 04 Dec 2017 10:21 AM PST Now that the last big tournament of 2017 (as far as we know) is done, I thought this would be interesting to bring up I'm going to count a newcomer as someone who was not on the 2016 SSBMRank. Personally I think it's a competition between Ginger, Hax, and ARMY [link] [comments]

On Melee maybe not being at EVO (from a traditional FG player) Posted: 04 Dec 2017 11:09 AM PST Some people seem butthurt about Melee potentially not being at EVO next year. Here are my thoughts as a traditional fighting game player (I don't play Melee competitively but I'm a huge fan of the game, it's fun to watch and takes a lot of skill to play well.) When people say "Melee doesn't need EVO" they are absolutely right. The Melee/Smash 4 communities combined are larger than all of the other FGC games combined. That's great and the Smash community definitely deserves it, but that also means that there are several events comparable to EVO in scale for Smash (Genesis, Big House, etc). The same is NOT true for, let's say, the anime fighting game community. Sure, there are events like Frosty Faustings which is focused on Guilty Gear and other anime fighting games, but it's not even close to the scale of EVO. Basically, Smash has several events that could stand in place of EVO in scale and the quality of players it attracts, but for many other games EVO is the ONLY supermajor. Melee does not need EVO, but Guilty Gear, NRS games, Marvel etc do, so it's unfair to those games which have been EVO staples for over a decade to get sidelined for Smash when a large majority of Smash players don't enter or even care to watch anything that is not Smash (while most FGC players play and/or watch at least a few FGC games). This isn't meant to be an insult, it's easily corroborated by entrant statistics. I get especially annoyed when some in the Melee community complain about EVO not catering to their every want, ie, top 64 not being 3/5. In case you didn't know, NO GAME gets 3/5 top 64 at EVO, it's not logistically possible. It would be incredibly unfair to non-Smash FGC players for them to get 2/3 in top 64 and for Smash to get 3/5. If you would step outside of the Smash bubble and look at EVO from the perspective of the community that made it happen and the long history it has, maybe you would understand why the broader FGC often views the Smash community as whiny and entitled. Melee is a great game, but I really dislike the attitudes of some of the community. [link] [comments]
