Samox Update and Metagame Stocking Stuffer

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 10:50 AM PST

Ho ho ho: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGbLweE0jmc

Well, this is fortuitous timing - the top two members of club "Soon" make videos on nearly the same freaking day to share essentially the same freaking message that "good things are happening; please understand".

My better half from North Carolina is getting healthier (btw, he inspired me to pick up a plant-based diet while I was down there; YAY KALE) and I am getting closer to being done with Metagame.

Of course, in light of the fact that my last prognostication was that I'd be done with the doc at around this time - not "mostly done" - I felt like it would be nice to share a section of the documentary with you all.

I chose a part of Episode 4: Fire on the Mountain for a couple of reasons - first (as I mention in the video) it's a pretty self-contained story; it departs a bit from the main narrative and sort of does its own thing, so I had a feeling this section would do well as a stand alone piece.

In addition, I chose it because it gave me an opportunity to put BACK IN a part which I'm relatively certain won't make the final cut of the full episode - namely, the "teams" section. In the context of a longer episode, this extra bit drags down the momentum too much for my taste, but in the context of a sneak peak, I felt like it would serve its original purpose well - to give us a glimpse into Armada's teams story.

Some may notice there's less of what you might call "heart" in this section (emotional stuff). I think that's just a consequence of it being somewhat separate from the main narrative lines (this was also part of the reason I wanted to cut it down in the final, full episode).

Feel free to give any feedback you have, impressions, criticisms etc.

Also, just to be clear - that opening segment was meant to be tongue-in-cheek; yes I do feel guilty for not meeting my deadlines, but I'm not letting it get to me. All I want to do is make this thing the best it can be as soon as I can, so that when it does finally land, the crater it blows out will be big and deep.

I need to cram it with every last bit of kale I have, is what I'm getting at.

Going forward, I'm going to mirror what PPMD is doing and not set any more goal lines until there's actually, for sure, a real release date. If anyone asks me, I'll just give them the truth - which is a disappointing, but factual "soon".

Hopefully the stars will align and PP and I will emerge together from the depths of our own struggles at the same moment, but even if we don't, it looks like we're both on the right track and will get there on time, in our own time.

CHOO CHOO MOFO CAN'T STOP THIS TRAIN (WITHOUT A YOYO)

…and I'm out.

Phil can comfortably be a Full Time Streamer at 250 Subs!!!!

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 01:50 PM PST

Consider subbing to the man. Amazing streamer, values and remembers all his subs, has a set schedule, does plenty of analysis, and its just a great time to hang out. Phil's a legend, legendary commentary throughout time as well as a skilled player in his own right that's done a ton for the game. Right now he's trying to pursue the dream as a full time streamer, and he just hit 150!

Did anyone save The Most Satisfying SSBM Video?

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 11:47 AM PST

I know this is a long shot but there was a relaxing Melee combo video titled: "The Most Satisfying SSBM Video In The World" that got taken down on Youtube. I was curious if anyone still had this video laying around and could upload it. Thanks.

Yes or no: would changing tournament rules on Cloud and Bayo, in singles OR doubles, positively impact our scene's financial livelihood?

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 07:44 AM PST

To clarify: the question is not whether any of these rule changes should happen, but whether they would have a positive impact on the financial state of the Smash 4 scene, which is experiencing both a dearth of new sponsorships and declining viewership.

MY TWO CENTS: I think a ban on doubles Cloud would benefit our community's viewership heavily. I'm not sure anything else should be on the table. I do at least think that, if we banned Witch Time in singles, we might see a rise in viewership; I can't tell ya how many people I've talked to on Smash discords or on here that say they've watched the game less since Bayo's specials became so fundamental to it. But because Bayo as a whole character is not broken enough to be ban-worthy; because the logistics of banning an entire character from singles are difficult and obscure (we've never done it before); and because a ban on Witch Time, despite its practicality and moderation, is viewed as absurd or untenable by the community: there is effectively no solution to Bayo's current dominance. There is a quick and easy solution to the decline of Smash 4 doubles, though, and that's to ban Cloud.

From all of us, thank you so much for an incredible tournament! It had everything; amazing games, great production, and incredibly hilarious and amazing commentary. Seriously was in tears from laughing so hard from the commentary this tournament. It was awesome to not know who was going to win this tournament as well. Hopefully the players there leveled up and we can see more amazing play from these non-god players!

Thank you Blur, all the commentators, players, Spenser and the production staff, etc.!
