You can evolve minions into "The Darkness", but you can't evolve "The Darkness".

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 01:19 AM PST

I don't think you should be able to evolve minions into minions that can't be evolved. Given that "The Darkness" is the only minion that can't be evolved, blizz needs to remove it from the possible evolve pool or let it be evolve-able.

EDIT: I'm not talking about if you play The Darkness yourself, but if a minion evolves into it.

The scenario is that if you have a 3 cost on the board, it can evolve into a dormant The Darkness(four cost). But once you get the dormant The Darkness on your board you can't evolve it, and since you didn't actually play it, it's battle cry wasn't triggered, so it is taking up a board space and you lost a 4 cost minion.

EDIT 2:

I understand the dormant effect, but you don't see people getting dormant Sherazin's which would actually work more than a dormant The Darkness. It's not the dormant effect that I'm having a problem with.

Blizzard's stance on not compensating rotating sets last year feels even worse now that they've proven Wild is not an equal format.

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 04:26 AM PST

When the original rotation happened, I remember people asking if there would be any compensation if you owned Naxx etc. I believe the general sentiment by Blizzard was that they did not want to devalue Wild, ensuring players that it would be a great place to continue playing their favorite decks and with their favorite cards.

Unfortunately, there has been no concern shown for Wild by Blizzard since. There has been a single official Wild tournament I believe, and no balance patches aimed specifically to address the wild meta at all. Favorite decks and strategies may be dead to some because Team 5 has decided to nerf classic cards instead of moving them to the hall of fame (innervate, fwa, molten giant).

Blizzard certainly seems to Standard as their priority.

This game needs purchasable pre-constructed decks.

Posted: 27 Dec 2017 06:06 AM PST

The main problem the game is facing at the moment seems to be accessibility to new players. Those of us with a collection going back to the days when Classic packs were just referred to as "packs" don't really have a problem with having at least a relevant budget deck, but as we know the game is financially prohibitive to a lot of people wanting to play a deck made of anything beyond basic cards, on account of needing to buy numerous packs from multiple sets in order to even assemble a deck that can push above rank 20.

What if this barrier weren't here? What if, like every paper TCG on the market, Hearthstone offered preconstructed decks? We already have deck recipes- which are a great starting point if you have a lot of common and rare cards already- so it really doesn't seem like it would be a massive resource expense to just add a button to outright purchase the exact cards to assemble one- perhaps as a one-time purchase per deck and for recipes designed with this in mind (I doubt Blizzard want to give out too many affordable legendaries).

MTG used to do this with each expansion- they'd release five pre-constructed decks, each consisting of two rares and an assortment of commons/uncommons, as well as one or two sealed packs. Essentially offering new players and casuals who haven't played in a while a kind of jumping-on point. It typically wouldn't be anything close to tournament viable, but it would ensure that players had a base of playable standard-legal cards with a cohesive theme to them- a theme generally reflected in the expansion, so as to tempt the player to buy more packs in the pretty-well-founded hope of opening something that would make the deck better.

In Hearthstone, cheap precon decks could have the same net effect- suppose Blizzard released them similar to the Welcome Bundle (as in, limited to one per player)- but one for each class each expansion. Maybe $5-10 for a deck featuring a couple of rares and an epic for the chosen class- a deck designed to highlight some interesting theme in the expansion- as well as a couple of packs from said expansion.

Just enough to provide a newbie-friendly starting point for both a decent deck and a collection- and also offer low-budget players an affordable jumping-on point for checking out a new expansion. Beyond that if it teases what the new expansion lets you do, it's essentially advertising that players will pay for.

Anyone else have any thoughts to offer?

[Serious] Hearthstone Wishlist for 2018

Posted: 26 Dec 2017 11:56 AM PST

Hearthstone Wishlist for 2018

Like every year here we are again!

Rules:

  • You only have one wish to improve the Hearthstone experience, please be serious! :=)
  • Read the whole post to prevent double wishes

I will start with my wish, so my wish for Hearthstone for 2018:

Blizzard, please implement at least 18 wishes from this wishlist!

Remember 2017: (https://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/5mskth/results_for_wishlist_2017/)

Wishes from 2017 (somehow) fullfilled:

  • better healing options besides Reno Jackson / remakes of loved cards like Brann Bronzebeard or make them evergreen
  • more consistency in card text (they did a lot, although there is still a lot left)
  • possibility to purchase "wild" adventures (you can buy wild packs in the store so you have access to the cards, just for a higher price)
  • more love for the mobile app (they improved a lot when it comes to patches and game size, but there is still more room for improvement)
  • new game modes (Dungeon Run is here!)
  • more social improvements (at least in the battle net launcher)
  • Team Mode (only at Fireside Gatherings or special events)

Wishes from 2017 not fullfilled:

  • more frequent balance patches / monthly? / at the end of a season (this wish is going into the 4th year)
  • Tournament mode/support (this wish is going into the 4th year)
  • less overpowered 1-drops / 2-drops and/or no RNG on them / less cards that auto-win against control
  • Auto-Squelch (this wish is going into the 4th year)
  • spectator mode improvements (especially for tournaments)
  • sideboards (a mechanic from MTG, might never happen)
  • achievements (!) (this wish is going into the 4th year)
  • ladder system revamp (ELO?) (this wish is going into the 5th year, promised for about 2 years, hell it's about time, Team 5!)
  • more support for the mech tribe
  • possibility to challange friends with a tavern brawl of your choice
  • possibility to add more than 30 cards per deck while it's under construction
  • Speed Hearthstone (15 seconds per turn)
  • 2v2 mode / guilds
  • Blizzard, please implement at least 17 wishes from this wishlist 2017 (they only got 7 from 17)
