Posted: 28 Dec 2017 08:00 AM PST I'm sure this has been discussed on this sub, but I still think it's interesting to think about, there's not a lot of video games in general, at least in the mainstream, that can be called "westerns", and I feel New Vegas should be added in the small lineup. I say it's a western not only because of the aesthetic of being in a vast desert, having several characters with a thick southern accent, law enforcement with badass revolvers; but the thematic reasons as well, such as order vs. chaos, power, and revenge. There's several references classic western tropes, and westerns themselves. Treasure of the Sierra Madre is a blatant reference, and it has themes about greed and humanity that inspired New Vegas. There's also a post-apocalyptic version of Native Americans with the tribes of Zion Canyon, and several weapons in the game are based on weapons used in the Old West. What do you think? Posted: 28 Dec 2017 04:54 AM PST Fallout 1 was about Vault 13 and the Unity; super mutants. Fallout 2 was about genetic supremacy and G.E.C.K; life. Fallout 3 was about morality and Project Purity; water. Fallout NV was about politics and Hoover Dam; electricity. Fallout 4 ? What is Fallout 4 mainly about? [link] [comments] |
In The Name of the Emperor Let None Survive. Posted: 28 Dec 2017 11:53 AM PST I decided to go against what I've normally always done in Fallout since 3, including my first Institute run in 4. I've decided to go no stealth, no vats in this Fallout 4 playthrough. And get my souped up Hot Rod power armor purring as quickly as possible. No stealth never is so much fun. Kick the door down, start lobbing grenades, Atom's Judgement power hammer, Gattling lasers galor. Codsworth laying waste with his Gattling lasers, in very polite way. By The Emperor's Holy Light...I feel like... I feel like a Space Marine. Far better experience (for me) when everything's on fire and pieces of the bodies are lying nearby, ready to be looted, instead of trying to find the bodies you put down with silenced sniper headshots from a zillion yards away. Jump packing into a group and pain training is the best. No vats makes for a more action packed experience. And then you get out of your armor for social encounters and you're in your bathrobe or clean suit with fancy glasses and a pompadour wig on. I may never do the stealth experience again. Purge the Unclean... synths from the wasteland. [link] [comments] |
Do you feel as though Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4 had a place to truly call home? Posted: 27 Dec 2017 06:44 PM PST When I play Fallout 3, Megaton is home. I treat it like home, I live in it like home, I buy, trade, and sell there, I talk to the citizens, I receive their gifts for being a good guy, etc. I love Megaton. Fallout: New Vegas has amazing places to live, but no place that I feel is truly a home. I don't care to live at The Tops Casino, I don't care to live at Goodsprings, Primm, Novac, whatever it may be. The closest thing that I feel I can truly call home is The Brotherhood of Steel Safe-House. It gets you quickly well-rested, has lockers, has weapons, has a guard, etc. It's my favorite place to call home in the game, but it doesn't compare to how Megaton makes me feel. Fallout 4 is, no offense to Bethesda or anyone who worked on the game, too one-dimensional for me to feel like I should ever call a place home. I treat Diamond City as a base of operations, and settlements are moderately cool to build as homes, but they just don't feel like a home. My overall question is: Do you feel as though Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4 had a place to truly call home? Because I do not, and I actually miss a home like Megaton being in these games. I'm more or less trying to make sure I'm not missing something. TL:DR; Do you feel as though Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4 had a place to truly call home? [link] [comments] |
One improvement upon Power Armor customization I hope they make in Fallout 5 Posted: 27 Dec 2017 10:20 PM PST I really enjoyed FO4's power armor frame system as opposed to the "just bulky armor" system of FO3/NV. Being able to combine different pieces to fit your aesthetic, modify the paint job/resist type, and choose upgrades for each individual piece was fantastic. I hope in FO5 they take it one step further and make PA customization as robust as the Automatron building system. While I think the base pieces should be the same, you should be able to add spikes, weld additional plating, and otherwise customize your PA to make it even more unique. What do you think? Did you like the PA system in 4 or would prefer to the older style? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 03:22 PM PST I decided to create a detailed map of the Washington DC Metro, which can be easily and quickly understood. No other maps online do this, and those that attempt to either come off looking confusing, or miss out key points. With this DC Metro Map of mine, you'll never be lost again! [link] [comments] |
What happens if I clear settlements/camps before Preston asks me to? [Fallout 4] Posted: 28 Dec 2017 10:30 AM PST Titles asks it all. I got 4 as a Christmas gift so I'm going around and playing it like I played New Vegas - running around the map and slaughtering raiders with Vats. But then a friend told me that some of the places I'm going to have Preston Garvey related quests. So do I just get locked out of those? Or do they repopulate? Or do I automatically win the quest? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Interested in playing through fallout 3 and fallout new Vegas, any tips? Posted: 28 Dec 2017 08:49 AM PST So I played and really enjoyed fallout 4, beat it with every faction and have almost all achievements, and I wanted to try the older fallout games too. I was wondering if anyone could offer me any major tips for fallout 3 and new Vegas, like certain decisions that play a huge role, or what each faction thinks so I can go with who I agree with. Thanks in advance for your help [link] [comments] |
Does anyone else play without mods? Posted: 28 Dec 2017 11:42 AM PST So I've played the series heavily starting with Fallout 3 on PS3. I played New Vegas the most. I also still play Fallout 4 after multiple playthroughs. In all my time playing on my own system, I've never used mods. I've only messed with mods at a few friends houses. I know some mods make the game run smoother, I just haven't tried myself. So my question to all of you is, is there anyone else like me that has never really played with mods? And to the avid mod users, what're some of your favorite crazy mods you use? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 02:06 PM PST Having played Fallout 4 for a good 80 hours, I thought it was time to dig into the older games. I started off with New Vegas as I'd heard from some that it was one of the best. I do know that the game works in a rather different way to Fallout 4 and the Elder Scrolls IV and V. Normally I play a sniper or a charismatic build, and I was wondering if there was a build that can incorporate a rifle/vats play style with a relatively high charisma? If this is not possible then the best sniper play style would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
How does your headcannon evolve as you replay the game? ***?SPOILERS?*** Posted: 28 Dec 2017 12:45 PM PST I've got one main for Nora, and one main for Nate. Let me tell you their story. Nate was my first play through. He was my "insert myself into fictional world and do what I would do" play through. He also played before the survival update, so his gameplay was super easy. Nate was a natural fit for the wasteland, by treating it as a war zone he found that in some ways he was more comfortable in the commonwealth now than he had been when he'd left the military. The transition to civilian life was difficult for him, and he'd been having a hard time finding work as a civilian. He was a successful, even heroic soldier, and he struggled to be anything else. So nothing could stand in his way as he blazed a trail across the Commonwealth to find his son. He was a good man, and he helped Preston reform the minutemen because he could see that the Commonwealth needed a protector. When he met Paladin Danse, he was reminded of soldiers and officer he'd fought for during the great war. Men he could admire, men he could become friends with. The Brotherhood felt like home. He immediately joined up, and fought for the Brotherhood fiercely. Until he met Shaun. That's when everything changed. For me, personally, family is the very tip top of the priority pyramid, and Nate is the same. So when he found out that his son was the head of the Institute everything changed. He switched sides, and utterly annihilated the Railroad (not that he'd had much to do with them before, he felt bad about killing deacon, but that was about it) before leading the assault against the Prydwyn. The assault against his friends. Against people who had called him brother. Against children. It could have destroyed him. Maybe it did. In my headcannon, Nate uses his minuteman army to control the institute. There are minutemen stationed in the hallways and corridors and rooms of the Institute, and the Institute is required to share their tech with the Commonwealth. In return, the Commonwealth provides raw materials for the Institute. Nate shut down all Gen3 synth production, and classified the research, requiring the Institute to focus their efforts elsewhere, and to acknowledge the humanity of Gen3 Synths and Coursers. Now Nate rules over the united, rich, and powerful dictatorial state of New Boston. He is not just the sole survivor, but he is also the Sole Ruler, and under his enlightened despotism the Commonwealth is thriving. After his death though, even if he were to have successors, leaving behind a nation that runs on a cult of personality will leave a dangerous gap, or dangerous amount of power in the hands of someone who may not be qualified. But my Nora story is completely different! She came after the survival update, so her gameplay was much harder. She was never a soldier, and so when she escaped the vault she knew how to shoot a gun, but not well. She knew how to jog, but not far. She knew how to use power armor (because insert some explanation here, idk, reasons) but not well. Basically, she should have been screwed. And she kind of was. She tried to go straight to Diamond City, but the dangers were too great, she had to hide out in the north and gather supplies and experience. One thing that Nora was better at than Nate though, was leading. She turned Santuary into a thriving town, she settled dozens of sites, she saved the Abernathys (and then some super mutants killed everyone but blake, poor bastard) she raised the minutemen up, and became attached to them personally, they were Her people. She began to feel responsible for them. She still hunted for Shaun, but when she found out that she would have to go into the Glowing Sea, she knew that this search could take years. That's when she gave up a little inside. Just a little. She continued to search, but she also fought for her new children, the people of the Commonwealth. When the Brotherhood arrived after Fort Hagen she was horrified. They felt like invaders. This was Her home, these were Her people, and this occupying army with their power armor and their planes were going to try to take this land from her people. There was no way in hell she was going to let them. Now she was split between two ideologies, the defensive nature of the Minutemen, and the altruistic, but narrow worldview of the Railroad. She tried to bind the two factions together, by allying them against both the Institute and the Brotherhood, the enemy of my enemy and all that. Nora became a product of her environment, where Nate recreated the wasteland, trying to turn back the clock and bring the pre-war world back; Nora took ownership of the new world. She was harsh and brutal, but also true and fair; she was soft and caring, while also cold and calculating. She was like the wasteland, both deadly, and beautiful. She led an assault into the institute, capturing their scientists as they fled the Army of the Commonwealth. She destroyed the Prydwen, feeling nothing but relief as it crashed into the ground, another failed experiment of blimp technology. Under her leadership, the Commonwealth Provisional Government was reformed, with most power being centralized in the major settlements of the region; Diamond City, Sanctuary, Starlight, the Castle, and Quincy (reformed after the Gunners were cast down by the Minutemen) Later, she brought Far Harbor and Nuka World into the Commonwealth's sphere of influence, creating Minuteman stationed protectorates out of these lands. When she died, the CPG ruled over the east coast much as the NCR ruled over the west. TLDR Nate didn't care about the railroad at all, even though he does believe Synths are people. He joined the Brotherhood at first, and found a well... brotherhood... with them, but when he found Shaun he betrayed the Brotherhood and led the Institute and Minutemen to victory. He became a legendary figure in American lore, and left behind a nation that was Kingdom in all but name. Nora had a really hard early game in the wasteland, and ended up forming alliances to survive, she fought war against both the institute and the brotherhood, and left a well governed commonwealth behind her. [FO4 Spoilers] Today, I remembered once again why I love Fallout. Posted: 28 Dec 2017 03:15 PM PST I was playing the amazing quest in Fallout 4 with the USS Constitution and came to the part where you have to recover a chip. After the conversation with Mandy, she pissed me off so much I shot her in the face, but didn't notice Curie was already inside. The guy next to mandy says that i'll regret that before I shoot him too. I go inside and see Curie beat up two guys with the stock of her rifle, killing them both. The game may lack some elements, but these random little moments are why I still love this series. Do you guys remember any of these little moments that you'd like to share? [link] [comments] |
I leave Doc Mitchell's at night Posted: 28 Dec 2017 01:28 PM PST I reinstalled NV and some mods in my laptop, and for some strange reason, I always come out of Doc Mitchell's house at midnight. Not exactly midnight, but 0:XX, where XX (probably) is the number of minutes I spent inside his house (not sure of in-game or real time). Even if there's sunlight streaming from the windows, even if the white light blinds you after the loading screen ends. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 12:08 PM PST Every time i ask someone to come with me as a companion they just start walking away. I don't know where they are going and they don't teleport with me when i fast travel and they don't actually follow me. Is there a way to fix this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 06:26 AM PST So, I'm following the RR questline, going for a stealth build, plus I've heard something about the best kind of armor or armor mod (don't know, didn't read more to avoid spoilers). Point is, I don't seem to know what to do. I entered the group after the first mission, then went checking if one of their safehouses (Alberta?) was actually safe (surprise: it wasn't. Raiders and stuff), came back, received compliments, ended the mission and then had to fastsave and quit due to urgent things. I don't remember what they said I had to do next. I checked the missions log of course but nothing from them (only the main quest and a couple thousand errands from Preston, go figure). If it can help, it was the mission when, after finishing it and going to the roof, you see the BoS flying by with vertibirds and that huge airship. In fact, when back to te HQ, Desdemona and the others commented on how bad that was because of them wanting to help synths and so forth. I get the feeling I was supposed to talk to Tom, but when I do I can only purchase/sell stuff. Desdemona and Doc won't say anything either (also, fuck doc). I'm sure I am missing/doing/not doing something really stupid, but hey I got awful memory and I'm not good at keeping track of stuff, so any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! Fallout 3 FOSE slows considerably lowers my FPS. Posted: 28 Dec 2017 12:13 PM PST The only way I've found to fix it is downloading stutter remover and raising the maximum FPS to 60 . I don't want to use that work around though, I just want to know how to fix it. [link] [comments] |
[FO4] What's the point of the giant body of water to the East? Posted: 28 Dec 2017 03:34 PM PST I'd be pretty sad if Bethesda wasted all that space on a useless body of water. I thought that it would eventually have something to do with Far Harbor, but, aside from the easter egg, it seems to me like a wet, boring version of the glowing sea. Am I missing something over there? Are there mods or something that I can use to liven up the area a little? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Fallout streamers/lovers/gamers Posted: 28 Dec 2017 10:33 AM PST Hey everyone, I'm trying to build a little Fallout Community on Discord for gamers and Streamers to just chat and help each other out with all things Fallout. Plus share settlements, graphic art, mods and other bits and pieces. If you get a chance stop by and say hello. When it builds up I will need mods to help me run it. https://discord.gg/V86KWPS [link] [comments] |
Expanding Fallout east of Arizona Posted: 28 Dec 2017 09:46 AM PST Here's a map: https://imgur.com/a/y5LUV Following the defeat of Caesar's Legion at Hoover Dam the New California Republic pushed the Legion out of Western Arizona and has finally captured Two Sun, a city deep within the heart of former Legion territory. Stretched beyond thin the NCR cannot repel the Legion any farther. Policing Two Sun and its newly acquired Arizona lands proves to be quite the challenge; the Legion's peacekeeping methods had kept raiders at bay. Now without the iron fist of the Legion's justice they have started to reappear in the territories the Legion abandoned in the north and within the NCR's new borders. Luckily the capture of territory in Arizona has become a economic and technological gold mine for the NCR as the ruins of Phoenix and Tucson have enticed many young men to head east to earn their fortune. The Legion has been routed, a small shell of its former self. It has all but been pushed out of Arizona entirely. While it still maintains some hold in northern Arizona the Legion's main base of operations has been squeezed to east Airzona and western New Mexico by the NCR. Cut off from their capital and northern territories the Legion has also been rocked by the death of their leader Edward Swallow. Two years ago was dubbed "The Year of the Four Emperors" as numerous men competed for the throne and then suffered untimely deaths. The Legion's remaining southern territories, ruled by the regional Governor Justinian, after receiving no support from Flagstaff in the devastating defeat at the Battle of Two Sun declared the territory independent and has fashioned himself as "Emperor in the East." Seeing the NCR unable to advance any father, he has his eyes pointed eastward. Capturing the city of El Paso and the former Mexican city of Juarez would be a treasure trove for the Legion's coffers and would provide the slave manpower necessary to push the NCR out of Two Sun. The Legion however has been dealing with a new enemy to the east. With the Legion pushing East the natives of the area have established a new government. Migrants from east Texas have brought with them the history of the land. The land of pre-war Texas was inhabited by a proud people who once stood up against a whole nation's army and came out victorious. The people of El Paso have internalized the myths and legends of Texas and its Cowboys and stylized themselves has the successor nation of Texas under the banner of the Lone Star. With the powerful weapons of Fort Bliss they have been able to expand into Mexico and West Texas. A young upstart nation, after their annexation of Las Cruces in former New Mexico they started encountering Eastern Legion patrols. The Legion may be weakened but the Texans have lost several cities and battles to them. The future is uncertain for the New Texans as expansion north of the Organ Mountains has been blocked by a technologically superior foe. Technological secrets of New Mexico were known to the Brotherhood of Steel. Enticed by records of secret projects in the desert they have expanded from their Midwest territories into the Southwest. Colorado and New Mexico have proven to be quite addicting for the Brotherhood with the discovery of many former US government secret facilities. After capturing the ancient city of Roswell they have come upon records of "extra terrestrial technologies." Driven west by this new information they captured the White Sands Missile Range yet and encountered an old foe. The Enclave still lives! Yet the loss of contact with their compatriots in the east and west has alarmed them. They have sacked the surrounding area of all they could and retreated to Holloman Air Force Base where they have dug in and fortified. Using the surrounding towns as areas for experiments, they have pushed pre-war technology to new heights. Rumors abound that the Enclave at Holloman has done this with "special" technology. (Fallout 2) Vic's goddamn radio Posted: 28 Dec 2017 10:16 AM PST So I can't find Vic's radio, we all know the mission it's attached to. Anyways I can't find it. Yes I know it's in his shack in the back room in Klamath but I can't seem to find it in there and I don't want to walk all the way to The Den without it first. Can someone tell me where to get it [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 03:31 PM PST I have no clue where on the Internet to put this, so I'll put it here. A subway station settlement. Pretty simple, right? So why isn't there one on PS4? Hell, I just want someone to properly link up the Andrew or (in a pinch) park street station to the settlement system. Making sure all enemies are gone and most objects are scrapable. Or any subway station. At all. I'd prefer a bigger one like the ones I mentioned but college square would work, too. If anyone thinks they could (and will) do it I'd be most grateful. Edit: typo [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Dec 2017 08:50 PM PST I genuinely feel like Bethesda had good intentions with a voiced protagonist. They had never done it before - it took a lot of work and money to make it happen. Personally, at some points I felt as if the dialogue was great and fitting and added to my experience, and other times it pulled me right out of my oh so precious immersion. With everything in consideration ($, RPG factors, personal opinions, etc.) Would you like to see a voiced protagonist in the next game or a return to traditional text dialogue? [link] [comments] |
