After 1200+ hours [Fallout 4] I actually found something I've never seen before.

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 06:42 AM PST

There's an unmarked location near Finch Farm and Hub City Auto Wreckers called "Pumphouse" I've never come across this before... I thought I've seen everything, but this took me by surprise.

So I entered the half open door to this 'pump house' and was delighted to see '0451' scribbled on the wall. For those of you who read and/or have played System Shock, Bioshock, Dishonored and Prey you'll probably know this is from 'Fahrenheit 451' the book by Ray Bradbury. (This is the book that got me reading because of the aforementioned games)

Inside there's skeleton with no head and on the ground next to it a gun named 'The Gainer'. A legendary .44 Pistol with a burning trait.

Thought this was cool as I haven't seen 451 referenced in any Fallout game before.

Just thought I'd share :)

My nephews are obsessed with Fallout. Hopefully this care package for Christmas will make me the coolest uncle ever.

Still putting together a box of Insta-Mash, and a whole bunch of caps. Maybe a postcard from Megaton, or something.

I drew this when New Vegas came out and my buddy just found it in a box. Took around nineteen hours; the peak of my artistic endeavors.

I just want to share a screen cap I took in FO4 that looks really nice.

Is perception a historically low-priority stat?

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 10:00 AM PST

In FO3, FONV, and FO4, perception always felt pretty unimportant and was left low. In FO4, I barely invested into it until I had nowhere else to put perk points.

Has perception always been a less important stat throughout the series? If so, how can perception be made more relevant in future installments?

Or is it actually important and am I just missing out on it? In that case, what should I be doing with it?

A (WIP) map of the world post FO4!

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 11:55 AM PST

https://imgur.com/E2H8RMy That is the link to the image of the map. NCR doesn't have a logo cause it wouldn't fit. KEY:

Pink: Labeled on the map.

Green: Labeled on the map.

Darkest Blue: Midwest Bos

Purple-blue: East BoS

Black: Enclave

Red: New Vegas

Dark Red: Caesar's Legion

Powder Blue: Western Bos

Teal: The Commonwealth

Grey: Far Harbor

Purple: The Shi

Orange: New Canaan

White: NCR

Critiques about the map are welcomed, and I'll review each and every suggestion someone makes (If it's serious.) I tried to make it as lore-based as possible, filling in gaps as I went. I chose to represent New Vegas as independent (Or under House's rule) and New Canaan as free (Assuming you help Joshua over Daniel) because we don't know much about the ending of New Vegas. Same as FO4. Most people will argue Chicago is Midwest BoS territory, but it is an Enclave stronghold (and likely one of their cities). I also tried to label what are likely the Capitals of each country (Unless they are confirmed, i.e. Shady Sands, Flagstaff, DC, San Antonio).

I HIGHLY recommend the fictional radio series Wasteland Radio to all you podcast-lovers. It's also perfect to listen to if you've got a custom PipBoy radio mod!

Podomatic link

Wasteland Radio is one of my favorite podcasts out there - it is a fictional radio podcast following a radio DJ who reports the events happening in and around the post-apocalyptic town of New Amarillo. He interviews the locals, reports events, gives tips on how to survive in the Wasteland and also plays Fallout-style music (i.e: '50s and '40s tunes).

The timeline might be a bit off for some of you who want to get technical (the podcast takes place in 2166 meaning it technically takes place somewhere between Fallout 1 and 2), but I just tune out the years and pretend it's happening in real time as I play Fallout 3.

Some Custom Pipboy Radio mods:

Fallout 4: PipPOD standalone radio

Fallout: New Vegas: Courier's Radio Station

Fallout 3: IPip Player

Future Weapon Repair

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 02:09 PM PST

I was never really a huge fan of weapon breakdown in previous Fallout titles. I thought that having to find a weapon of the exact same type was a huge pain and kind of unrealistic. However, I think with the current scrapping system that mechanic could be implemented in a realistic and less of a pain in the ass way, just by using found springs and other found components to bring a weapon back to full condition. Thoughts?

How do you feel about the alternate ammo system from NV? Do you hope it will be in the next fallout game?

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 02:11 AM PST

I like how you could use different ammo types for different enemies, instead of outright changing your weapon. Also, i think alternate ammo types would work really well combined with fo4 damage resistances.

For example, you could get radioactive bullets which require nuclear material to make and deal less ballistic damage than normal bullets, but more radiation damage. This would be effective against humans, but weak against ghouls.

Favourite Fallout song?

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 06:09 AM PST

Whenever I happen to hear a song from the soundtrack of any of the Fallout soundtracks, I feel a wave of nostalgia.

I think my fav must be 'I don't want to set the world on fire'. What's yours? :)

My own theory about what happened to Vault-Tec

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 01:47 PM PST

This is my own personal theory about one of the biggest mysteries in the Fallout universe: what happened to the Vault-Tec Corporation. I'm probably just overthinking this or missing something but whatever. Vault-Tec was in the business of building an intricate and advanced system of underground Fallout shelters, yet somehow weren't able to survive the war themselves. None of the vaults seen in any of the canon games have had any contact with Vault-Tec since the bombs fell. Many of the them (like Vault 111) were waiting for an all-clear signal in order to receive further instructions for Vault-Tec, indicating perhaps that the company was destroyed somehow.

However, I don't think Vault-Tec was destroyed. Fallout 4 provided us with some of the best insight yet into how Vault-Tec operated, and in my opinion I think its extremely likely that they survived. In fact, I don't think that there was ever meant to be an all-clear signal at all. Vault-Tec operated based upon the bare numbers. They considered the vast majority of their personnel to be expendable, and really only considered how much their resources would be expended trying to achieve a certain goal and whether or not there was anything of value to be gained. I mean, hell, in Vault 88 we get to see that they even considered working out to be inherently selfish and not beneficial to society as a whole because it increased a person's lifespan and how long they would be a drain on society's resources.

We see from Vault 111 that Vault-Tec was able to monitor their facilities remotely and really didn't always need their personnel to do things for them. So if Vault-Tec could monitor their vaults remotely and also presumably retrieve the data and results of their experiments from them the same way then why bother sending out an all-clear signal? Why bother wasting time and valuable resources trying to retrieve expendable personnel from the vaults when they could simply get what they needed remotely and then leave their employees to their fates? It's hard to believe that a corporation that was literally in the business of building shelters to survive nuclear war couldn't survive it themselves.

Some think that because Vault-Tec was so embedded within the US government that it was simply absorbed into the Enclave when the bombs fell. I doubt that, though. Vault 111's terminals instruct its personnel to wait for the all-clear signal and to ignore communications from any entities other than Vault-Tec, including the government and the military. No, I think Vault-Tec had much grander designs and didn't limit itself to simply being an appendage of the government. I think Vault-Tec is most likely still operating from some giant, secret vault headquarters, wielding advanced technology thanks to the data from their vaults that could probably rival that of the Institute. They're still operating and probably still terrorizing the people of the Wasteland to this day.

Glitch in Taking Back the Castle?

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 01:22 PM PST

I just killed the Mirelurk Queen thingy and now it says to meet the minutemen in the courtyard or whatever but I looked all around for them and they weren't there. I checked the map to see where the marker was and for some reason they walked really far away from the castle into some random house and stuff. I went to go talk to them and he's still talking about taking back the castle and finishing them all off even though I did and we aren't even at he castle anymore. Just thought it was kinda weird I guess.

Best Nuka World Companion?

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 03:11 AM PST

Hi there.

I'm in my second Fallout 4 run and the DLCs are new to me. I know that Nick is perfect for Nuka World because of the back story. But I never saw anything like that for Nuka World.

Every Thread I saw just listed strong companions you might need for Nuka World but no "fitting" companions. I know that Preston will hate you, if you go with the Raiders, but nothing will convince me to make Preston my companion (I hate him so much).

So any infos which companion is the best? Or will I get a new companion when I arrive in Nuka World?

Thanks :)

Do Fallout 4 mods work in Fallout 4 VR?

Spoiler: question about the Institute.

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 03:29 PM PST

If I decide to join the institute, can I change my mind and destroy them at any point? Maybe don't give away too much if possible. I already decided I want the institute to die but I'm wondering if I can play that storyline and still accomplish it.

Fallout - Draft. Chapter 1. Feedback is appreciated :)

Nevada Desert 3 Years after the Battle for Hoover Dam.

Rain. I hated rain. Which was ironic, seeing as it had been over 4 months since I had last seen it. Raindrops started to soften the dry Nevada terrain as I made my way towards the small patch of forest which looked sheltered enough. The rain looked pure so I dug a small hole and put my leather bag around the edges of it to collect the water. After that I turned back to the forest, the sun was almost gone and I hadn't seen a better camp place for miles. I sprung a rope between the two nearest trees there and extended my tarp across it, planting it on the ground on both sides. The high point of my great lux cabin was few feet from the ground, perfectly shielded by the shrubbery from most sides. The little park had only a dozen trees in it, so anyone who was less than 50 ft. from me would be able to see it. But it had to suffice.

Making a fire was not an option so I settled for the cold meat in my bag and sat on the edge of the wood. The rain showed no sign of stopping, making my next days even harder. Tracking a single man through a desert was hard enough, let alone the fact that he had a head start of three days. With the rain my chances had dropped from about a needle in a haystack to finding a father who could fix the East Coast's water shortage. One of my favorite stories that one.

I gazed upon the empty desert, painted grey as the sun had disappeared behind the great dynes. I sat there for a while, waiting for the rain to end. After maybe fifteen minutes I spotted something from the corner of my eye. A desert fox cub. It slowly walked on the edge of my vision and stopped to look at me. I turned my head and met his eyes for a few seconds. It must've not seen me as a threat, as it started lazily to walk towards me. The fox stopped about ten feet from me, planting himself on a flat rock. It stood there for a bit, the light brown fur glimmering in the moonlight. He was scanning his surroundings, now and then it stopped to look at me, tilting his head on the side. His ears were upright, trying to hear every movement in the empty sea of sand. I decided to make peace with him, bargaining to get a guard for the night. I threw a small piece of my meal between us, as a token of goodwill to that nocturnal beast. The small fox looked at me suspiciously and took a few steps toward the meat. The animal couldn't be heavier than a pound. Maybe one and a half. It accepted my gift and proceeded to my leather bag, which had been filled by the rain. I let the poor thing take a sip and then it took his leave, traveling east, following my tracks. I couldn't help but smile as I finally stood up. I gathered my rain collector from the ground and poured it into my waterskins. Fixing up my things I crawled in my makeshift tent and laid down on my travel bag which had probably collected more water than my leather-hole.

As I woke up my mind started on autopilot, doing the ritual it had been doing every morning for nearly 18 months. I scattered the contents of my backpack on my mattress. I had plenty of food and water to reach the next town. I was running low on medical supplies, I needed bandages and was completely out of painkillers. I had some Jet and Rad-X but my supplies were running low. After that I opened my waterproof bags. In the small one I had 23 Denarius', maybe 700 caps in checks, and nearly 3000 dollars. I lost my NCR dollars bit over 2 months ago, but they weren't terribly useful in Legion territory so I didn't mind. I then moved to my larger bag, most notable being my .308 hunting carbine. I had 18 rounds left for it, plus a few hollow points, so I was set. Then I moved to my trusty couple, first was my old repeater. A lever shotgun that spit out 20 gauge rounds. I knew I had 17 of them left, but I had to check out of habit. Second was my old .357 Colt Python. It had an 8" barrel and I knew every nook and cranny of that gun. I had 57 rounds left in my ammo vest, with 6 in the chamber. The handle of it was worn and scratched, but suited to fit my hand. Millwood Meadow had to be less than a days' travel away. The sun was shining already, drying the terrain, erasing all the signs of yesterdays' rain. I set on my way.

Is it viable to shoot through The Pitt?

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 07:25 AM PST

I started the DLC, and because my character is at max level and high strength, after the mugging scene I am able to punch slave guards to death and take their guns, so I could just kill every enemy. My concern is that if it's still possible to progress in this way, and how much dialogue/story am I going to miss out on.

[Spoiler] Institute Question

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 02:08 PM PST

I am not going to put a spoiler warning in here because its in the title.

So, I just met Shaun. And I like him, but I read all the terminals in the Institute and its a bad deal...

If I join the Institute, can I change them or does Joining them mean I buy in to their philosophy?

In Fallout Shelter, is there any reason to train a dweller's skills beyond what is required for the room they are assigned to?

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 12:17 AM PST

I know I should train a dweller's strength to 10 if they're going to be in a power room for example, but is there any reason to train them more than that? Do they benefit at all from having other skills trained? I know I want my explorer and quest dwellers to be trained as much as possible, but what about dwellers that are just parked in the same room all the time?

Fallout 4 ctd since mod screw up

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 01:17 PM PST

Well. Played over 80+ on steam, got really into and used some mods. That was fine and not a single ctd. I've decided to add another mod (something about adding big hard bosss enemies) and since then I can't launch game. I mean, I will launch it, skip intro, press enter when asked so I can see menu for one second and ctd. Did almost everything to try revert that: uninstall that mod. Uninstall all mods. Uninstall nexus mod manager. Cleared appdata/documents folders. Uninstall whole game. Updated vga drivers. Read about three pages of Google results. Nothing. Nothing! I'm hopeless and almost depressed. I want to play Fallout 4 i can't :/ I'm willing to try anything but reinstalling windows (7). That is too much. Please halp and sorry for my engrish.
