During the recent dungeon event and pugging after I noticed some disturbing trends. I'd like to address these bad habits for newer players so that they may correct this behavior.

In dungeons positioning is very import both for max dps out put and for staying alive. The bad habit I'd like to address is displayed by bow and stave users.

1) Don't stand in front of the boss if your a damage dealer!!! The bosses often do area of effect attacks that mostly do damage in front of them. You can in fact shot them in the back and still do damage while avoiding taking damage yourself.

2) don't stand behind the healer!!! If you do you will not be getting healed ;). Likewise if the healer needs to turn around to heal you then he/she will be turning their back on other members of the team. Which means they will not be getting healed.

3) Just because you can stand far away from the boss does not mean you should!!! The tanks job is to grab the boss attention and keep it off the rest of the team. Which means he/she is normally in front of the boss. This means the healers #1 priority is to keep the tank alive. Since a healers go to skill is Grand healing/Healing Springs the healer will have to make sure both the tank and themselfs are in the circle of healing from this effect. If you as a damage dealer are not positioned between the tank and healer then you most likely are NOT getting healed. Your bow passive for more damage from grater distance is doing you no good if your dead. Also that passive is pretty meaningless because except for a few select warden builds bows are pretty weak dps except for a few skills. which are a damage over time attack and an area of effect attack. Don't be the guy standing in the far corner spamming Snipe. If you are then you are not helping!!!

4) don't stand too far away from the other damage dealer(s). Sure there may be a few niche situation, however there is a buff that most healers use called Combat Prayer. It uses the same area of effect as wall of elements. Which is maybe 5 feet wide and 12 feet long aprox. It boosts your dps as well as heals you. Depending on which way the healer is standing if you are more than 6 to 12 feet away from the other damage dealer, then only one of you can get the buff.

In short proper positioning should look somthing like this:

 Tank Boss Dps Dps Healer

Last important note about positioning is: If you are not a tank DO NOT stand in red!!!!

I hope this helps your (and my) dungeon runs go smoother. Happy dungeonering everyone :)

Playing on multiple PCs using one external HDD?

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 01:02 AM PST

Hi I'm quite new to the game but I would really love to commit to it. But I don't have regular access to a powerful PC at home (me and my brother share a PC).

I want to be able to play the game (sometimes) on the PC at home and other times at an internet cafe (really popular in my country). However the game is 66GB and takes about 5 hours to download through Steam for me. Is it possible to install it on an external drive and play on multiple computers or otherwise cut download time?

[Discussion] I'm on the fence and can't decide if I should buy this game.

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 07:13 PM PST

Basically what the title says. I'm VERY interested in the game as I'm a big fan of the single player ES games, but have a really hard time convincing myself to buy this. I've tried looking this stuff up, but so many "Should I play this?" videos are outdated or don't answer questions I have.

I'm very sorry for the wall of text, but I really want to be sure about this before I go and sink a lot time and money into it.

My main issues are this:

  1. How much is there to do besides combat? Many MMORPGs lose my interest simply because I don't want the only gameplay to be fighting. Most MMOs have non combat content, but it's just usually very dry, and is only there to help you in combat. I know cooking, thieving, smithing, and other non-combat skills exist, but how much is there to do with these skills? Are there quests, story, or anything substantial related to these skills? I like fighting, but I would like to be able to do other things when I start to get bored of it.

  2. How much of this game relies on having people to play with? I get that this a MMO, and I do like finding people to play with. But the thing is I can rarely get on at regular times to play with people. I played GW2 for a long time, but I got to the point where EVERYTHING relied on having a party that I could regularly play with. I haven't even bought the newest DLC because it only caters to endgame content. And all end game content required a 5-12 man team to get to. Can most quests be done solo? Or will I be missing out by playing by myself?

  3. Is exploration rewarded in any substantial way? Much of Skyrim and Oblivion's appeal was that I could just start walking in a direction and find something to explore. Another problem I had with other MMOs is that exploration was never really awarded beyond simple "map completion" achievement/events. Exploration was my main pull to the single player ES games, but sadly I don't have much left to explore in them.

  4. How much does this game pressure you to buy micro transactions? I know there's no subscription fee, so they have MTXs because of this. I've seen a lot of mixed feelings on this and am curious what this community thinks.

Hopefully you guys can shed some light on this.

Thanks again.

These lags are infuritating

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 06:41 PM PST

Its literally unplayable on console. I play on ps4 and ive experienced some of the worst lags ever. I never had problems with other online games, but in ESO they're unbearable. Every time i log in i have a chance to explore this beatiful world for about ten minutes before it goes back to main title. It happens every. goddamn. time. Sometimes its just ten minutes, sometimes twenty and sometimes one. The only reason why im still torturing myself is beacouse i love this game, but the developers are not doing anyrhing to resolve this issue. Its not just me, there are a lot of players who experience same problem, not just on ps4 but also on x-box. Just Google it and you will find a lot of posts about this issue.

Tl;Dr: Please zenimax, fix connection problems on consoles.

Hide shoulder option

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 06:22 AM PST

Most monster shoulders are kinda large and unpleasant looking. Would having an option to 'hide shoulder' in the same way as 'hide helmet' ever have a chance of being introduced?

Why does the Hammerdeath Arena have so much detail if it never served any purpose at all?

Just curious. It seems like a half finished project that accidentally got added in.

Eso Account Transfer?

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 11:40 PM PST

So, I have a question. When I bought/downloaded/started playing ESO, I didn't realize I had done so under my boyfriends PSN account. It wasn't a problem at all, except now things aren't going so great between us and I'm unsure of our future if you get what I mean.. I'm wondering if there is any way to transfer my eso account onto my psn. We only have the one ps4 with both our accounts on it.. Any advice or help would be appreciated :)

Hammer weapon?

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 01:19 AM PST

So I'm currently reworking on my stam DK and I'm running sword and shield on my front bar, i know what set i want but i enjoy making my character look nice while I'm at it so i really want a one handed weapon that looks like hammer, something similar to robert baratheons hammer from game of thrones. If anyone knows a style that has a melee weapon that looks like what I'm describing please let me know I'd strongly appreciate it!

ESO crashes hourly on new PC

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 02:34 PM PST

Backstory: ESO is pretty much the only game I play. My old PC was a potato and I had to get a video card that was DX11 capable just to start playing, haha.

Performance wasn't ever great but never held me back. The game never crashed though, ever. Upgraded when FPS literally dropped to 5 or less after CWC.

Current: Just built the PC last week... 1080TI, i7 4.2, ESO installed on an SSD, etc... the game crashes hourly, usually after I load into a nee zone, but sometimes it seems random. I use a lot of addons, but no more than I've used before.

Am I missing something?

Tanking: Taunt does not last 15 seconds? And a few other questions on tanking.

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 01:47 PM PST

Hey everyone, been leveling-up a new Tank character doing nothing but random dungeon runs, got to lvl 45 now.

I've noticed that when using the pierce armor taunt on bosses, sometimes it doesn't seem to actually hold the threat for a full 15 seconds, and I have to re-apply it. Is it possible that someone can heal or DPS too much during that time to "steal" the threat away? I'll notice that the boss is facing me, but then it might switch to another target and I have to re-apply the taunt skill to get the boss to start attacking me again.

  • I looked online and it seems there used to be behavior where you could over-taunt an enemy and it would become immune, but it seems like this has been removed from the game. Can anyone confirm?

  • I've read that the taunt skill sometimes doesn't apply as you are out of range, but I confirmed this isn't the case by seeing the taunt icon appear in the list of debuffs on the boss.

  • I know some bosses have a mechanic separate from threat where they randomly go after another character. I can tell when that is case; I'm referencing during the boss' normal rotation where another player seems to "steal" threat for a second and I have to re-apply my taunt.

  • It didn't seem like the other randoms in the group were using a taunt skill like frost staff heavy attack or inner rage. It appeared as though they did too much DPS to steal aggro, but I didn't see this listed anyway as an official mechanic in the game.

  • I'm confused about the threat mechanic for some bosses, like the big dwarven steam boss at the end of that one dungeon where he does into a spin attack and follows someone around, or when he stands stationary and starts shooting those ranged shock missiles at a person... is it possible to take the threat for those attacks? Or does the boss choose someone at random or does the boss use some other metric to determine who to go after e.g. last person to attack or something else?

  • In general any tips regarding taunt, threat, and tanking in general? Appreciate any advice; I'm hoping to start running veteran content when I hit lvl 50 (I'm champion lvl 150 at the moment, playing a nord warden as a frost-staff tank with sword and shield back-bar). My plan is to gen an ebon armor set from doing the corresponding dungeon T CP 160 as my starting gear set. I've heard that frost staff tank usage is frowned upon in veteran content, is that true?

  • Is there any attack I can use to pull mobs towards me as a warden? I've seen DK use a chain thing to pull mobs to him, seems pretty useful, but haven't seen anything I can use for that. On my frost staff bar, I have wall of elements, and the two forst AOE attacks from warden line, giving great slow and immobilization and chill effects on the mobs. But I'd like to pull some mobs to be, you know the random archers on the edge of the group that stand away from the rest of the pack.

Thanks in advance!

thoughts on this build for a pve pet sorc?

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 06:45 PM PST

5 necropotence, 3-4 moondancer flame staff, 1 asylumm lightning staff ilambris

rotation

liquid lightning>la>wall of elements>la>pet>weapon swap> force pulse>la>daedric prey>la>force pulse>heavy attack> force pulse> start over

I can retrait, but two of my moondancer pieces are infused instead of divines for now, but should i hypothetically pull of more dps than the iceheart, julianos, necro ( pull 27k on average) build i've been using? i know this depends on more testing on my own part, but i was wondering if anyone ran a similar set up was wondering what dps they were pulling

New Player Woes!

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 07:43 AM PST

So I just started playing a few days ago and I have a High Elf Magsorc. He is pretty fun, and I do a lot of damage, but I seem to die kinda often, probably cause I suck hard.

Is there any recommended spell rotation for leveling? I am only lvl 23 so far, and wondering if magsorc is for me x.x

I rolled a Khajit NB last night named Twoclaw Shakur, I might go with a stam build on him if my magsorc keeps dying x.x!
