I cannot begin to express how frustrating it is in low brackets when you are against an all carry lineup and your team just casually farms the jungle when you can easily take high ground.

So, on numerous occasions, after clicking on a creep to attack my hero will decide to walk instead of attacking even if it shows the red glow around the creep.

In the clip linked below you see my hero starts to attack but then somehow it registers a move command behind the creep, while its glowing red, and then somehow also moves to the right even though I haven't clicked there. This isn't just one instance I feel like this happens once or twice a game.

The DotA 2 tutorial is really fucking garbage.

I was teaching my 11 year old cousin DotA yesterday and god damn it was the worst experience ever.

1st of all when he tried to buy items it would only let him buy items IN ORDER of the recommended items list.

He tried to buy the item at the end of the list and it just would not let him (god knows why).

Next, when he died to the tower the 2nd time (which is normal) I wanted to have him TP back to lane but it would not let him buy a teleport scroll so he had to walk back to lane.


After I finished that tutorial I was thankful that it was over so I could start the next one... then I realized it puts him in a FULL FLEDGED BOT GAME already! And the bots are fucking rude. They are really aggressive and would go to kill him all the time.


So next I started a game where we both played together against bots, but after the 5 minute mark all the bots 5-manned down mid and he could not do anything.


At this point he did not want to play anymore. The only way I got him to keep playing was by starting a bot game and making him nearly 6 slotted in the beginning so he can run around and one shot people and actually enjoy playing the game.


TL;DR

It is super frustrating

Bugs


1. Holy Persuasion can target allied wards, buildings, couriers and zombies

As the teleport was merged into Holy Persuasion, it lost its targeting filters. Currently, it can target and teleport wards, couriers and Tombstone zombies (couldn't before), and can target (but not teleport) buildings.

Repro:

  1. Cast Holy Persuasion on an allied ward, courier, building or Tombstone zombie

Result: Can target them and teleport them (except buildings).

Expected: Should not be able to target wards, buildings, couriers and Tombstone zombies.

2. Hand of God doesn't heal allied illus, revealing the true hero between them

Hand of God currently only heals heroes, and does not heal illusions. This means when an ally stands between their illusions (e.g. PL with an illusion army), using Hand of God will tell the enemy who the real hero is.

Repro:

  1. Be PL and have many illus
  2. Stand scrambled with your illus, so enemies can't tell who is real
  3. Have an allied Chen cast Hand of God

Result: Hand of God only heals the real PL, effectively revealing him.

Expected: Hand of God heals allied illusions, so it doesn't give away who is real.

3. Test of Faith can't target ancients

Not a bug according to wc3 dota, but heavily outdated.

Test of Faith cannot target ancient creeps. This means currently you cannot use it to heal your persuaded ancients (or to steal last hit on ancient creeps your carry farms).

Repro:

  1. Select Test of Faith and attempt to target any ancient unit

Result: "Ability Can't Target Ancients."

Expected: It should be able to target ancients. The restriction makes no sense.

4. Penitence launches a projectile, but its effects apply instantly upon cast

Penitence has a useless projectile currently. It does nothing at all, but apply a visual effect and play a sound on impact. The effect of Penitence (slow & incoming damage modifier) is applied instantly upon cast.

Repro:

  1. Get targeted by Penitence
  2. Check the timing of the status debuff of the spell

Result: The debuff appears instantly on cast. The projectile itself does nothing.

Expected: Either make the debuff apply on projectile hit, or remove the projectile and make the impact sound and effect play immediately on the target.

5. Holy Persuasion completely messes up the health of talent-buffed Treants

Helm of the Dominator has this issue as well.

When persuading Furion's treants, their health gets increased beyond the health minimum of Holy Persuasion. Here are all possible health values (using level 4 Holy Persuasion)

Default treants:

  1. Regular: 550 hp
  2. Regular, persuaded: 1000 hp
  3. Regular, persuaded (talent): 2000 hp
  4. Doubled health (talent): 1100 hp
  5. Doubled health (talent), persuaded: 1550 hp
  6. Double health (talent), persuaded (talent): 2550 hp

So what happens here is, Holy P takes the treant's base health, increases and it to 1000(2000). Then the talent adds its 550.

Holy P should not affect their health, since 1100 is above the minimum. When the talent is chosen, it should set it to 2000. Strangely, it works completely fine for Broodmother's spiders, which have an hp boosting talent as well.

In the vid, I increased the spider's base hp to 750, so it's equal to the treants with the talents

Greater Treants:

  1. Regular: 1650 hp
  2. Regular, persuaded: 1650 hp
  3. Regular, persuaded (talent): 2000 hp
  4. Doubled health (talent): 3300 hp
  5. Doubled health (talent), persuaded: 4950 hp
  6. Double health (talent), persuaded (talent): 4950 hp

Why 4950? It makes no sense at all. No idea what happens here.

Holy P should not affect the talent-boosted treants' health at all, since it is above the minimum at all times.

6. Holy Persuasion turns Granite Aura hp bonus permanent on the unit

Helm of the Dominator has this issue as well.

When converting a unit which is currently under the effect of Granite Aura, the Granite Aura bonus is turned into a permanent health bonus for that unit.

Repro:

  1. Get scepter
  2. Find an Ancient Golem Camp
  3. Convert one of the Rock Golems
  4. Check Golems health

Result: A rock golem has 800 base health. While near the Granite Golem, this is increased by 15% to 920. After converting it, its health stays at 920, despite it no longer being affected by the Granite Aura. If you now also convert the Granite Golem, so that the Rock Golem is affected by the aura again, its health increases to 1058, which is another 15% on its already increased 920 health.

Expected: Holy Persuasion should not turn the aura bonus into a permanent health bonus.

7. Casting Holy Persuasion on ancients before having ult wastes the spell

Holy Persuasion can currently be cast on ancients even when ulti is not leveled yet. It will go into cooldown and waste mana.

Repro:

  1. Get scepter
  2. Learn Holy Persuasion (keep Hand of God on level 0)
  3. Cast Holy Persuasion on an Ancient Creep

Result: Holy Persuasion's particles appear, the sound plays, spell goes on cooldown and expends mana. Creep is not converted, since Hand of God is not learned. Holy P currently only checks if Chen has Scepter or not.

Expected: Holy Persuasion should not be able to target anient creeps when: Chen has no Scepter and when Hand of God is on level 0.

8. Penitence's debuff values don't update on refresh

When refreshing the Penitence debuff on a target, the slow/incoming damage amplification values don't update

Repro:

  1. Cast Penitence on an enemy
  2. Level Penitence up
  3. Recast Penitence on the same enemy with the new level

Result: The debuff gets refreshed, but the values don't update.

Expected: On refresh, slow and damage amp update to the new level.

9. Holy Persuasion's convert buff is purgeable, but doing so does nothing

The buff Holy Persuasion, which plants on the converted unit, is currently purgeable. But doing so does nothing at all. The creep still is under Chen's control, and keeps its hp bonus.

Repro:

  1. Persuade a creep
  2. Have a enemy cast a dispel spell on it (e.g. satyr purge)

Result: The Holy Persuasion buff on the creep disappears, and nothing else happens.

Expected: The buff should not be dispellable....Or make it actually revert the ownership of the unit and remove the hp bonus it got.

10. Recasting teleport on the same target has no effect, wasting mana & cooldown

Currently, when you cast Holy Persuasion on a unit who already has the Teleport buff, it refreshes the buff, but does nothing besides that. When refreshed, the unit will still teleport based on the first cast, so the second cast effectively does nothing.

Repro:

  1. Cast Holy Persuasion on an ally
  2. Cast Holy Persuasion on the same ally, before the first cast finishes

Result: The ally teleports based on the first cast, the second cast does effectively nothing but refresh the buff.

Expected: There are 3 different expected behaviors:

  1. Add the MODIFIER_ATTRIBUTE_MULTIPLE attribute to the buff, so that each cast places its own buff.
  2. Add an OnRefresh function, make it restart the think interval, and update the teleport destination (e.g. depending on whether the 2nd cast was targeted on the unit or on Chen).
  3. Disallow Test of Faith from targeting units which already have the teleport buff and make self-casting place it only on units which don't have it yet.

11. Holy Persuasion's legacy key changed due to the ability slot change

Holy Persuasion was moved from the 4th into the 3rd ability slot. This had an unintended side-effect of changing its legacy hotkey from R to F, because for some reason, legacy keys are still bound to slots, instead of abilities.

Repro:

  1. Use legacy keys

Result: Holy Persuasion's key is F

12. Hand of God doesn't heal Spirit Bears under your control

Bug currently doesn't matter at all, but whatever.

Hand of God is supposed to heal every unit under your control that is not a ward. But it currently does not heal Spirit Bears under your control. All other units do get heal, including other creep-heroes. The bear is literally the only unit that doesn't.

Tooltip stuff


Penitence:

  • No changes

Test of Faith:

  • Added ALT note saying it can target spell immune allies (header already implies that it can't target spell immune enemies)

Holy Persuasion:

  • Added spell immunity info in header
  • Removed part of description that implied that only creeps acquired via Holy Persuasion are teleported on self-cast, which is wrong
  • Removed aghs description from default description (now consistent with other aghs upgraded spells)
  • Reduced teleport buff to only say "teleporting" instead of "teleporting to safety", which is outdated since it can also teleport units to Chen, and not only towards the fountain
  • Reworded aghs text for consistency
  • Reworded all 3 existing notes, and added a new note regarding the mana of converted creeps

Hand of God:

  • Removed "upgradable by Aghanim's Scepter" from description, since Hand of God has no upgrade
  • Replaced redundant spell immunity ALT note with one saying that it can heal invlunerable/banished allies (spell immunity info is already in header)

Talents:

  • Reworded level 3 left talent and level 4 right talent to match the corresponding ability descriptions

My friends and I were playing a game where I accidentally cancelled the enemy Dark Willow ult with my taunt. This is pretty broken obviously and we tested it and found it works with all fears (QoP, LD).

Heres a video showing this, seems to have something to do with your hero standing still when its casted as well.

Okay, so I started playing dota in 2013 I played 2 matches with a friend and just never played again, in 2016 i played about 100 matches with a few friends and was too busy to keep playing, so about a month ago I started playing again, and every pub I play in has someone with about 6k hours and if I'm trying a new hero they always shit on me, saying your bad blah blah, I even met a guy in a lobby and he was kinda friendly, we played a game, I made one mistake he's instantly like wow sven your no help shit talking me after I made ONE MISTAKE. Any friendly players who want to help people get better out there?
