Built my first PC solely for DayZ... and today I sold it.

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 09:32 PM PST

3 years ago, I fell in love with the game and its unique concept. I remember first playing it on an old laptop with the shittiest settings and FPS possible lol. Soon enough, I coughed up enough money to build a PC specifically to run this beautiful game. I played the shit out of it... made so many memories that will last a lifetime. Long story short, I became way too busy with my studies and barely had any time to play for the last year whatsoever + I really needed the money right now. I almost teared up as I was wiping the computer to sell it. So this post is simply a huge thank you to this beautiful game and community for giving me some times and memories that I'll never forget about. You guys are awesome :) And one more thing, never stop believing in this game, it will be great one day.

[SHOWERTHOUGHT] What if they never announced early access alpha?

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 07:24 AM PST

What if on the 16th of December 2013 they never released an early access alpha. Instead they kept the news to themselves, and developed the game in secret, without any release dates, just the news that a own DayZ game would be coming.

During the 4 years Arma 2 DayZ would have died out, Arma 3 Exile (or any other mod) would have most likely taken its place, and we would have sat here for 4 years and waited excited and wondered if there would ever be a DayZ Standalone game and when it might be coming out.

No, I do not live in the past, what has happened has happened, I just wonder if it would have made a difference with all the hate that their getting nowadays. Please, I would love to hear some opinions on this.

Vehicle loudness, they are pretty loud.

Is it just me or are these cars pretty loud? Could we perhaps add some mufflers in the future? I think that would be neat.

Considering buying the game.

I really like the looting and then pvp style game play Sorta like pubg but constant, not game by game. I have both Arma 2 and 3 and I just want to ask, would you recommend me getting this game, or should I stick to the Arma 2 mod. Also, with the Arma 2 mod, what mods if any should I use for that. Thanks!

Airfield was not what I expected, & some newb questions

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 04:15 PM PST

I checked everything at the airfield at 045 049 (the one west of Devil's Castle) and I mainly found assault packs, misc military clothing, some pistols & rifles. I thought I would be finding M4s, AK47s, etc. I did find an AKM, but I didn't find any 7.62 ammo so there was no point in taking it. Is that not NWAF? Because from what I've read it seems like people hype up NWAF to be the goldmine of military equipment.

Also, I've got some decent gear (fireman's axe, CR75 pistol w/ 45 rds, the AK-looking submachine gun & military looking gear) and have survived for a good few hours with the same character. What do I do now? I'm not used to surviving lol. I've heard people mention they have bases set up. How do you set up a base?

Do devs straight dislike us?

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 05:06 AM PST

Seriously it's been four years in production, at this point I feel like we're all one entity. My problem is why aren't the devs more friendly? Why don't they hop on stream once in a while and show us something cool or not cool. Why does it feel like devs are always hiding. I get it there s been witch hunts too often in the past, but at the same time do they realize a large group of people have actually been supporting them? Please devs it's been 4 long years ,are we not friends enough yet where you guys can show us some daily things? These vanilla cookie cutter reports are ok, but they feel so forced and fluffed.

My personal feelings towards the standalone

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 12:25 PM PST

4 years ago I was pretty excited about the standalone, having been a huge fan of the a2 dayz mod (pretty much played from the first weeks of the mod), and when it came out I liked it and saw great potential, the loot was fine, although balota was pretty "dank". What the devs did to solve the problem of coastal dming was to make the dank loot spawn northwards (which is cool), but I would argue that this makes the game unplayable, atleast for me. When I play the mod(I still do btw, on both OG A2 and DesoReduxA3) I initially loot the town I've spawned into and usually find a lee enfield with 2 mags and some food and water. On the standalone at it's current state I can't find jack shit up until I reach the NWAF(which is a deathmatch on a whole new level). See what the devs did was instead of making the North viable, but not 100% necessary in order to get the gear you need, they made the north the only place to find worthwhile loot(by that I mean shooty guns with ammo). When the game came out back in '13 I thought the solution to the problem was obvious, to make trash(in theory) guns that you couldn't attach attachments onto and that had slow reload time but were still good, as in higher caliber(kindda like the enfield), winchester, ppsh, double barrel, cz550 (I know some of these guns are in the ST right now, I am talking about how I was expecting they would go from the start of ST) and make them spawn at the coast and make the percentage really high. But for the better guns that you can put scopes on like the m14,m24,m4,ak... they would have to go north. This would've made the ST identical to the mod in terms of gun loot balance.

Back in the mod it was viable to go back down to the coast for industrial gear, because most people there only had "bad" guns and you could pick them off from afar with your dmr or whathaveyou. In ST i have no desire to go south since most of not only the military but also industrial gear spawns north.

TLDR: I thought the direction of the game at the start of EA was gonna be to add more trash guns with no attach but still higher caliber and put them on the coast, so that people would't be bored out of their minds for 3 hours before finding a gun. 2nd thing is to move the industrial loot from north to south so that geared up people would have a reason to go south and interact with fresh spawns.
