TIL If you raze a city that has a Wonder in it, the Wonder gets destroyed and you can build it yourself elsewhere

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 12:01 PM PST

The Twitch streamer Quill18 is playing a game as Khmer and was a couple turns away from building Petra when the AI built it first. Fast forward to near the end of the game and he finally found the city that had it, Baltimore. So he conquered Baltimore and razed it, then rebuilt the Petra in the city he had originally planned it for.

How many potential civs are on the "civ blacklist"

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 03:42 PM PST

I mean blacklist as in civs that will probably never get into the game in any shape or form. The only one I can think of at the moment is Adolf Hitler. Any other ideas?

Alternate Leaders, DLC, and Life after Rise & Fall.

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 09:36 AM PST

I have been thinking about this stuff a lot with the upcoming expack and the weekly previews of leaders and wonders. A lot of people have been discussing just how far they will go with alternate leaders for civs, I have seen a lot of speculation for secondary leaders; who fits the new mechanics? Who "deserves" to be a leader? Is it a new civ that will get two or an old one? Can GP become leaders (Napoleon? We have Genghis Khan now)? I have even seen a suggestion that Charlemagne rule both France and Germany.

The most common thoughts on the matter is that, after R&F comes out we will no longer get new DLC and firaxis will simply stick to expacks. If you look to Civ V this seems like the most likely outcome.

Personally, however, I would really like to see firaxis transition to extra leaders as the new DLC they try to sell. I think it would be cool if you got a DLC with 2-3 new leaders and a scenario to go along with them. I think you could still charge $5-$10 for this without much complaining. This would be really cool too because firaxis could get away with putting in "questionable" leaders they want to add because they are attached to a scenario.

Anyone else like this idea?

The housing bonuses for coastal and fresh water tiles should stack

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 12:08 PM PST

Estuaries and deltas are commonly the site of some of humanity's greatest cities. London, Alexandria, Kolkata and all the rest of the people living on the Ganges Delta, New York, Sydney, Shanghai, Rotterdam, Buenos Aires - all situated on river mouths. They've got the right mixture of food and water supplies, ship access, and flat ground to facilitate urban development. I reckon this ought to be reflected in game by having the housing bonuses stack.

Military policy card idea

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 06:17 PM PST

I'm kinda surprised that there are no military cards along the lines of giving free xp/promotions to newly trained units, it seems like something that would be fairly easy to have and would make military cards a bit more interesting. There could even be ones that give special promotions like 'spear of fjiorn' which give some kind of combat boost but don't count as a promotion for XP costs, and could have a wide variety of types (movement, strength, vision, dis/embark, etc)

Playing tall with a very big city

What was the biggest city you've ever had?

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 07:18 PM PST

Anyone else finding the domination victory a bit tedious in late game because of how wide the game is played by AI and that you have to manage 20 cities+?

Also I find the map size huge for 8 civs, the standard map.

New Palace buildings in Civ IV R&F look really nice

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 11:42 AM PST

I noticed that, in the recent Civs First Look, the palace building in the capitals are all different from each other. Can we just sit down for a moment and appreciate the effort that the devs are making by representing the various civs in a more aesthetically unique way ? I don't know, it's a perk that I appreciate.
