Self Post Sundays! - November 05, 2017

Posted: 04 Nov 2017 09:09 PM PDT

To foster more discussion about the games every Sunday we turn the subreddit into self-post only mode.

Self-Post Sundays are our main discussion day. On those days we only allow text posts directly about the games themselves.

Please save your images, fan art, screenshots, videos, etc to the other days of the week. Use this day to discuss the games. Other posts will be removed.

Hit 800 hours and 100% completion (without guides) tonight

Posted: 05 Nov 2017 01:56 AM PDT

Well, I wsn't originally intending to go for all 900 koroks/100% completion, but the closer I got, surprisingly the more fun it got. Didn't want to spoil the challenge by checking online guides/maps, and tonight, 800 hours in (or 799 hours to be exact), I found the 900th korok, whew!

Anyone else going this no map/guide route to 100%?

[Other fun stats at this point: Rubies (456), Diamonds (377), Topaz (314), Sapphires (196), Opals (368), Amber (999), Star Fragments (19), Ancient Cores (70), aaaand Giant Ancient Cores (12)]

Temple of the ocean king yellow portal

Posted: 05 Nov 2017 08:05 AM PST

I'm on my first playthrough of phantom hourglass and just opened the yellow portal in temple of the ocean king with 8:21 left. If this enough? If that will be cutting it too close, can I go through the beginning of the temple again and reset the time with a better one?

Which Zelda game should I play next?

Posted: 05 Nov 2017 08:23 AM PST

Hi everyone, this is my first post here.

Before BotW I had never played a Zelda game before (well, I played some Alttp when I was a kid but that doesn't really count) but after finishing BoTW, I liked it so much that I continued playing other Zelda games, so I played TWW (Beacuse it was relatively modern and, according to the general consensus, more beloved than it's successors).

I also enjoyed it so I went directly to the "Classic 3D Zelda" Ocarina of Time, which I finished yesterday, and I really liked it, specially because when I was watching gameplay it seemed really old and archaic, but after playing it, I think it has aged perfectly.

So, after that I don't know if continue with Majora's Mask or with Twilight Princess. For me Majora's Mask looks way more interesting and everything I heard about it excites me, but there's a problem, I've also heard that sometimes can be a bit frustrating to know what to do next or where to go, so most of people seem to need a guide or a walkthrough, on Ocarina I needed it sometimes and I didn't like to use it. So, I would feel bad if I start playing MM and I have to use the guide every second.

For this I thought that maybe if I play Twilight Princess first, I could "train" a bit more for MM, and play it withouth guide.

What do you think? Is Majora's Mask really that confusing?

Thanks in advance.

Skyward Sword HD remake for the Switch. Yes or no?

Posted: 04 Nov 2017 08:23 PM PDT

Since OoT and TP both got remakes for stronger consoles. I got to thinking, what if skyward sword were to get an HD remake on the switch?

They already have the motion controls built into the base controller for the switch so it wouldn't be that difficult to port it. And they could use this opprotunity to iron out a few of the problems the original had (Similar to what TP HD did)

Who would actually want to see this happen?

BOTW's music is underrated

Posted: 04 Nov 2017 08:14 PM PDT

Sure, the library is small and they don't immediately strike you as great tracks but after sinking hours into this game and going back to it I can't believe how nostalgic they already feel. The music in Hateno and Rito village are so good that I sometimes just go there to hear them. I know a lot of fans were disappointed with the music but a quieter soundtrack is what this game truly needed. When exploring at night especially, there is something so special about the sound of my footsteps and a few piano keys. It really does make you feel like the only hero out there-- in a good way.

What do you think? Is the lack of music in BOTW an actual problem or are people being too critical?

The only thing about BotW that was done horribly

4 years, 300 developers, and they spend what like 4 bucks on voice actors?

First of all I go through the beginning of the game talking to the king and stuff and I hear his old man grunts when you open dialog with him and its a nice classic old man grunt and its great.

But then he gives me the paraglider and all of a sudden this ancient king of hyrule has the voice of an 18 year old. To me it was almost laughable matching that voice with the face.

It's so obvious the grunts the king makes in dialog are from a different voice actor. It leads you to believe you're gonna hear a gandalf-esqu voice come from him. Completely threw me off.

And then theres zeldas voice. It seems so obvious to put a lot of effort into something as big as character voices, but I feel like they really dropped the ball here in casting. At least for the English version anyway.

That's just my opinion though.

Weird Glitch happened while playing BotW.

Posted: 04 Nov 2017 05:52 PM PDT

Was Playing around and decided to start the Trial of the Sword, so I put the sword back into its little area and just as the loading screen hit, my Wii U shut off and when I loaded the game back up (Thought auto save was doomed), I had all my gear.

I tried to recreate it, but to no avail.

It was weird but sweet, wished I kept playing or atleast kept that save before I quickly added my game capture device and ended up saving over it. (Did not think to take a quick video of me in the first trial with my gear).

I was so determined to make a video of it that my senses to make a video before attempting to recreate that my proof was saved over.

But as said above, I could not recreate it so wanted to see if anyone who is experienced with save glitching can try to recreate it.

Only thing that was not in my inventory was the Master Sword.

I think that during the Auto save, it saved with my gear but when power was lost the save was still usable but not complete, I think it saved the gear and Items but inside the trial instead of at the tree and before the unequip part.

I dont know, I am not familiar with how saves work and that is the only theory I can come up with for the Glitch, that or it was just some random fluke that can happen 1/1,000,000,000 chances.

Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask on Switch

Posted: 04 Nov 2017 12:00 PM PDT

The 3DS is only gonna be worked with for probably 1-2 years only, so do you all think OoT and MM will be ported to the Switch ? The 3D versions of these games are incredably beautiful, but their resolution is kinda crap, I would love to play these games at 1920x1080 or even higher if the Switch allows it.

Zelda Feels

Posted: 04 Nov 2017 12:23 PM PDT

Which Zelda game gave you the most feels? And I don't mean frustration or anger. Did any Zelda game touch you to the point of tears? Mine was:

The ending of Ocarina

Leaving the Zelda that understood what you've been through made me feel so sad when I first played it. And I did cry too because the game was over

I'm Still Your Zelda

This scene had me bawling my eyes out. Link wants to bring her home but she can't because their duty and destiny is bigger than whatever relationship they want to have or have had. Also, LOOK AT LINK! LOOK AT HIM IN THIS SHOT

May We Meet Again In Another Life

I am one of the rare species that really liked Fi. And I loved that she grew to care for Link by the end of her journey. I'm such a sucker for spirits in weapons and this, in retrospect, makes all the other Zelda games for comforting knowing that she was always there because it's dangerous to go alone.

Zelda "clones" by other developers?

Posted: 04 Nov 2017 07:43 PM PDT

So, I kind of have an obsession with looking for decent games that are similar to the Zelda series. For the 2D stuff, I absolutely love Golden Axe Warrior, Neutopia, and Neutopia II, and Crystalis, and for 3D there's always ÅŒkami, Beyond Good & Evil, and the absolutely adorable Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure (I recommend it for anyone who hasn't played it -- it's available on PSP, 3DS, and Steam, and who wouldn't want to play as a little girl with a drill running around saving cute monsters? You can even get a monkey suit!). I also feel like there's a lot of Zelda influence in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, though obviously the storytelling and world design are very different.

I can't be the only one here who looks for these games, right? What are some of your favorite Zelda-like games?
