Reflections - 2017 edition

Last tournament? Well, we have the stats for you, 13 people entered into Wii U and 11 entered into 3DS, with SoP | HandballNat and Epic_Gabriel winning respectively.

2017 has been a really tight year. What has Hypest Team done for you?

  • First, since our inception, we had 12,511 players in our tournaments. That's right!
  • This year alone we did more than 40 tournaments.

Locally:

We have helped Beast 7 happen, by that, we mean: Seeding parts of Melee and Smash 4, TO'ing the 64 tournament and photographing the event itself. Also, interviews, and more! (It was incredible to TO a tournament with Isai in it! A memory we will hold dear in the team)

We have also covered the french tournament HFLan 2017, with pictures. (https://www.flickr.com/photos/137346329@N07/albums) everythings here!

We have hosted a national in Belgium, called "Inheritance", where Chudat, Zgetto, Mahie, Adam and more have starred.

We have covered the following tournaments with pictures and more:
Mission Complete 5
Icebreaker

We have then brought ourselves to Streaming with HEAVY equipement! We have streamed, alongside partners with Geekygoonsquad:
MASTer
Dash Dancers Dawn

We have helped at Heir 4, with TO'ing, assisting pools, setting up the event and covering that event (photographic, journalistic)

We have brought Smash Melee, Brawl & Wii U at the "Retro Made in Asia" convention in Belgium, showcasing Super Smash Bros. to over 3000 attendees and promoting the smash scene!

We have helped local scenes and smaller TO's with our expertise, providing either Setups or more to allow for further growth in regions.

Have helped in a European Ruleset for SSB4

Our inventory has massively grown, with effectively hoarding a couple dozens CRT's, and a heavily functional stream setup, with the trust and support of the Smash community we are slowly getting to our dream goal: Having a Major smash tournament in full eSports mode!

probably more stuff that we forgot to mention...... We're behind much of the stuff you guys see in Europe!

Remember, without you guys, and especially /r/smashbros, this wouldn't have happened and wouldn't have been possible! <3

Still wondering who we are? Look no more, we are the Hypest Team: the offical /r/smashbros tournament staff.

Facebook - Twitter - Youtube - Twitch - Discord

These are our various social media sources. Following/Linking/Subscribing will give you an edge on what is happening with us and hopping onto out Discord will give you instant access to our community.

We want to thank everyone who keeps coming to our events. We keep getting higher turnouts, stronger competition, and just plain ol' have a good time. Without continued growth we hope to bring you events that are even greater in the future. Keep on Smashing!!

All members of the Top 6 have won a US major more recently than Armada.

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 06:10 PM PST

All of the top 6 members on the MIOM rank have won a US major more recently than Armada. Armada has only won one tournament since EVO, which was Syndicate 2017, but no members of the top 6 were present, while the other members of the top 6 have won at least one, defeating a member of the top 6 on the way.

Hungrybox: Shine, GTX, Big House, Dreamhack Denver, Smash Summit 5

Mango: Super Smash Con 2017

Mew2King: Canada Cup 2017

Plup: Dreamhack Atlanta 2017

Leffen: GOML 2017

Not sure when the last time something like this happened, but hopefully Armada his loss streak at GENESIS, 4 peat another tournament series!

edit: Meant NA instead of US, sorry!

Without Net Neutrality, we will have to pay extra to watch Smash Streams and play smash online. It’ll be a disaster and it will affect everyone.

How is there not a tourney series for melee's b-day

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 12:19 PM PST

Community idea:

1.Tourney moves between four locations every year. eastcoast, midwest, westcoast.

  1. invite the retired players and the new faces.

  2. celebrate the b-day of melee.

you're welcome. please don't sell your house to fund this.

International Melee players?

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 01:04 PM PST

Hi guys!

I was looking at the ssc wiki page (https://www.ssbwiki.com/Super_Smash_Con_2017), and something caught my eye - there seems to be a serious lack of international players in Melee, at least compared to 64.

Just taking ssc as the example, there were only 3 countries for Melee (USA, Sweden and Canada).

But 64 had Bazil, Australia, USA, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Peru and Japan..

Just thought this was an interesting comparison.. Is there much of a competitive scene for Melee outside the USA?

Mods for Smash Wii U

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 08:49 AM PST

Is it possible to add mods to my Wii U if it is updated to the most recent version?

If so, what is the best tutorial for adding mods to your Wii U and smash?

Can you suggest any wifi-safe mod packs?

Thanks

Which smash4 characters are the easiest to learn "in the field"?

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 09:53 AM PST

Heya, i play smash4 on my 3ds here and there (vs AI, for glory and with friends) and i'm wondering which characters are the easiest to learn "in the field" (aka: by just playing the game) rather than "in the lab" (aka: by trying out mechanics in practice mode).

By that i mean characters that i can just pick up and play with, until i eventually master them or get close to that.

As an example, Sheik and Greninja are the opposite of what i'm looking for: they are both very technical and require combos to perform well with.

Picking one of those characters means that it'll be advisable to spend time in practice mode to get mechanics and combos down before facing opponents.

On the other hand i feel that characters like Charizard, who do not have any critical mechanic that has to be learned, will improve in performance as the player plays rather than in practice mode.

So yeah, i'm curious to know which characters you think meet the criteria. :)
