I Made A Function That Adds The 4 New Mobs To Minecraft

Mob C for Minecon Earth looks so much a like Trapinch from Pokémon

I made quick sketches of the Minecon Mobs, just for fun.

The three losing minecon mobs should become myths/legends in the game. Being subtly referenced throughout the game.

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 05:53 AM PST

I agree with the average joe saying that all of these mobs should be added instead of just one. But complaining and spamming the request over and over and over isn't going to do anything considering Mojang already made up their mind.

So instead of adding the losing mobs physically, why don't we add them... in spirit. The losing mobs should instead become myths and legends. Referenced throughout the game though they don't actually exist.

Heres an idea i have for each of them.

Mob A appears in a painting attacking a ship. If pirate mobs are ever added, they'd be scared of squids, mistaking them for the monster.

Mob B appears in the form of a cloud. Rarely, a large cloud in the shape of the monster will appear.

Mob C will appear as a fossil structure. Jeb described the mob as opening its jaw and burrowing into the ground to be hidden. Thats how its skeleton would appear as a structure in the desert.

Mob D will appear in the form of a large statue in the nether, maybe even with its own dungeon inside.

I know we'd all like these mobs to just be added as actual mobs but that isn't going to happen. But heres a way that they can technically be added without being gone forever. If you agree, lets get this into mojang's face.

Now that mob D is revealed, i see that the 4 mobs represent the 4 natural elements.

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 06:53 AM PST

A is water
B is air
C is earth
D is fire

The four natural elements. And we get to choose which element we want.

Unpopular opinion: I don't care about any of the new mobs. Actually, I really dislike most of them.

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 03:58 PM PST

Mob A and Mob B just sound excruciatingly annoying to deal with. Mob C sounds like it's going to be completely useless if it's implemented by Mojang's standards. And Mob D well.. I don't think I'd mind this one because it doesn't sound that annoying to deal with (compared to the others).

People are going apeshit about this poll. DUDE WHY NOT ADD ALL OF THEM AT ONCE??? I really sincerely hope that Mojang knows what they're doing here. Sometimes I wonder if they even play their own game. Adding useless content doesn't make anyone happy. You're just fluffing up your updates with some content you thought was funny but all in all doesn't add much depth to the game at all.

I honestly think this poll is just Mojang's way of trying to convince people that they do listen to the community. Honestly I could sum up A LOT of small features that in and of themselves would add more depth to the game than (yet again) a new mob which more than likely will be either

1) excruciatingly annoying to deal with (mobs A and B)

2) dead content because of implementation flaws (mob C)

3) meh (mob D)

just my opinion

Loving the new horse model.

I feel like Mojang missed an opportunity by not calling Mob B a “Night Terror” instead of “The Monster of the Night Skies”

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 08:29 AM PST

Mob C: The Great Hunger

Mob D: The Hovering Inferno

Both are pretty cool teaser names. I'm a little disappointed that the first two are just "Monster of..."

I thought calling Mob B a "Night Terror" would be a fitting name since it attacks insomniacs.

I think “The Hovering Inferno” may be targeted at the combat area of the game.

Sure, this guy spawns in the nether, but he has some unique attacks and defenses that will make you need to strategize when fighting him. If his blaze rods are shields, what if he has a chance to drop them for players to use, which ignite foes who you block? That helmet too could have a special use as a unique armor piece like Elytra. The shockwave attack could be implemented into numerous plugins to greatly enhance PvP.

Mobs on Vote: Run Down and Thoughts

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 08:00 AM PST

Soon we'll be able to vote on adding a mob to minecraft, and they say the rest will never be added.

You can see the original video here.

And a fantastic transcript of the videos with clear mob images here.

While we can speculate about how good or bad of an idea this whole thing is, how serious they are about that, for the sake of this lets assume it true. So lets run down the mobs.

Mob A: "The Monster of the Ocean Depths"

Video Here

  • Tongue attack to drag you down to drown you.
  • Spawns in deep water
  • Propels itself with mouth

What we can infer from that:

  • Wont spawn in rivers/ponds/swamps most likely. This could just mean it spawns in water below a certain level, or it could mean they spawn in specific biomes like ocean/deep ocean.
  • It's attack is at least somewhat ranged, perhaps very. Spawning in water and using it's tongue to try to drown the player. Either using the depth, or quick attacks to keep you under water a long time.
  • It likely spawn likes most mobs do. As long as the conditions are met, it'll keep spawning. -It probably moves in pulses, like a squid.

Mob B: "The Monster of the Night Skies"

Video Here

  • Spawns in high altitudes
  • attracted to players who haven't slept in days
  • attacks with a bite.

What we can infer from that:

  • His language suggests unlike what many of us have guessed, these mobs might spawn regularly even if players are rested but only attack when they haven't. They might also only spawn around players who haven't slept, or start spawning in server as long as one player hasn't. I would wager they always spawn, as it actually makes them a better mob, a looming threat.

  • It's a melee attack. They come down to bite you. If they do always spawn, this would work out well as you would mostly see them from afar. Only up close when it was dangerous.

  • They are drawn to sleepy players so a lot of interesting mob farms might result from this. This would depend on spawn rates, drops, etc. But a unique mob behavior like this is interesting.

Mob C: "The Great Hunger"

Video Here

  • Cute

  • "Great appetite for enchanting powers"

  • Mobs or items that fall in are consumes.

  • Sinks into the ground and camouflages itself.

  • Use to your advantage to add or remove enchants.

What we can infer from that:

  • Whatever attacks it can do are likely melee, maybe even only if something falls into it's mouth while hidden.

  • It has some ability to modify enchants, removing and applying them. It's unclear if maybe it can store and enchant, or if you could somehow choose which it would remove/add.

  • Perhaps it can hold items until killed. Since it can be used to remove enchants we can assume you can retrieve items it consumes. The idea of using it for enchants also suggests we may be able to farm or herd them some how, as a single enchant switch around for a chance encounter seems slight. Then again a name tag and a box is all you would need.

  • Consuming mobs is unclear phrasing. Hard to say if that simply means it would damage a mob that steps over it, or if it would somehow grab on to continually damage, or outright 'consume' some mobs as an instant death. I doubt they would auto kill the player, so I would hazard a guess that it's mostly a high damage attack.

  • It sinks into the ground and camouflages. It's probably a safe bet given minecraft's accessibility to kids that we will likely be able to spot them some how.

Mob D: "The Hovering Inferno"

Video Here

  • Massive and Blaze like
  • Shields itself
  • Spawns with Blazes
  • Shockwave attack
  • High Fire Damage
  • Special Encounter

What we can infer from that:

  • Nether specific
  • At least semi rare spawn
  • Something of a challenging fight.

Pros:

A: It's ocean content. The nature of it's attack is unique, interesting: drowning the player. That's a type of damage and threat that doesn't exist outside of ocean monuments. It's presence in the ocean could create more reason to be there, and in turn more drive for future ocean content.

B: It's also unique. Especially if they always spawn, but only dangerously attack when you don't sleep, it would do a lot to add to even casual gameplay experience. My intital concern was that it wouldn't remain relevant to anyone who slept regularly, but I think it would remain interesting if you still regularly saw them. A flying mob adds some life to some dull spaces of the game, especially for high altitude builds that can often feel barren.

C: Most typical in that it's a land bound mob, but most unique in how it behaves I think. The idea of having a living tool for enchantments is cool. Again, adds some life and animation to something that could just be a static animation block. Probably will be fun to farm. Might be boring and land bound, but so are players; so probably the mob we would see the most (especially if you keep them in pins). It might be borderline passive for a hostile mob for it's usefullness and potentially very passive attack.

D: A hard fight is about the only good thing here. Minecraft is an easy game and a tough mob that isn't a rare boss might help liven that up. Shockwaves and shields could make for a cool fight, but probably not.

Cons:

A: It's Ocean content. While we're lacking a lot of that, this mob alone wouldn't be reason to explore it. It's just something that tries to kill you. It might drop something interesting, but that would be true for any mob. That we are only getting one means if they had anything interesting for them to drop, the winning mob will drop it. While how it tries to kill you is neat, it's still just another enemy. It might even make ocean travel irritating.

B: A neat looking mob, but it's interaction with the player is limited to one of the games worst mechanics. It is easy players of any level to make a bed, almost at any given time. You already sleep when mobs will be dangerous and don't when they wont. This mob wont change that, especially since it's high altitude. It probably can't attack you mining. Probably can't break into your buildings. Chances are you'll only be attacked when you want to be, or just form carelessness. In which case you'll still only need to fight it if you want to.

C: It's a land bound mob. Whatever biomes it might be specific to, it'll be occupying a space already filled with life. It's enchantment deal, while interesting, isn't game changing. Players who would have the skill and patience to take advantage of these mobs can already easily get whatever enchants they want via books, villagers, xp farms, etc. It's not hard to get the perfect set of tools and armor after a certain point in game. This mob wont change that.

D: Do I need to say it? It's dull. The nether wont be made better by it. The nether is kind of difficult to get through, which is good, but this mob doesn't meaningfully change that. A challenging fight might be good, but I bet fire resistance and mediocre equipment will mean you always win. These other mobs change something about you gameplay cycles. This mob does not.

My thoughts:

B and C are the best choices, and I'd say C is the clear best. D is just boring, clear loser. A, while hinting at ocean content, doesn't actually improve the water bound experience too much. B could do a lot for the mood of minecraft but just ultimately isn't unique enough, it's a hostile mob with a unique requirement to aggro. C is the only mob to add something else to the game than an enemy. Something you could farm, keep, use.

There's a lot to speculate about each one's possibilities, and I'd wager these are all concepts bound to change. In the end though, I can't see meaningful enough maybes that wouldn't also apply to other mobs.

What are your thoughts?

What new blocks would you most like to see in the game when the block id limit increases?

Instead of voting for mobs...

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 09:17 AM PST

Why dom't you let us vote for what 1.14 will be? Put up a vote for *what do you want the next Minecraft update to be

  • Oceans
  • Nether
  • Overworld (land)
  • Overworld (sky)

Boom. Then use the results as a roadmap for 1.14-1.17.
