The Netherlands and Belgium's authorities are starting an investigation against EA and Blizzard about Lootboxes and gambling addiction.

Both articles are written in their official language Dutch.

Belgium

Netherlands

If buying lootboxes is same as gambling, then the game companies can expect fines and those games with lootboxes will be marked as "PEGI 18+"

I'm happy to see that first goverments are taking this seriously. Just hoping that it gets blown into Europe Union level. Lootboxes may suddenly become not so good of a business model any more.

Edit: France woke up as well

French senator is alerting French authorities. Asking to look into children lootbox/gamble problem.

Hallow's End 2017 Appreciation

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 01:26 PM PST

I would like to say thank you to Blizzard for this event. I believe most of us agree how underwhelming the first event since 2.0 was (Gun's Out, Sun's out).

I think Blizzard really heard us and Hallow's End was a really good event.

Amazing cosmetics from the past returned (Scarecrow Xul, Count Arthas and Countess Kerri, the Eye-Pad, etc.), and then we got very cool amazing new cosmetics, like Vampire Hunter Valeera and the really amazing Dr Wolf & Stein Greymane skin, but also those horses with sheets on top of them.

Another think that I believe they did right was doing the same as Overwatch does for these events: have an event guaranteed drop on every box. I think it makes us want to play more because we know we're always getting something exclusive.

And something that I really enjoyed was the simple silly skins, aka, old skins with new tints and a hat. This is very easy for them to make, the skins feel different enough, and I actually felt really nice when getting some. It is a way to dilute the item pool, sure, but it does it in a way where I can still enjoy whatever I get.

The only thing that I didn't like about the event was the fact that in europe the store closed earlier than the new patch launched. If the EU server got the Hallow's End patch later than NA, but then the chance to forge the event items ends at the same time for both regions, that is simply unfair.

My final point is: thank you Blizzard, I think this was a perfect to handle an event and I can't wait for the next ones.

It would be great if we could flag someone on our friends list so we would be notified when they finished the game they were in.

Something as simple as an option in the menu that pops up when you right click a friend would be amazing.

Performance Matchmaking Q&A Interview with Travis McGEathy - Ask your questions!

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 12:40 PM PST

As already announce a while back I'm planning to record a video going over the new performance based matchmaking in a bit more detail. Since then there's been quite a few threads on Reddit as well and it was pretty obvious that the community has a lot of specific questions. So I thought it'd be best to not only talk about the matchmaking but also to address those concerns. To that end I'm going to have a talk/interview with Travis in which we plan to address those questions and explain the new system in more detail.

The purpose of this thread is to collect the most immediate concerns of all of you. Since it was very obvious from the past discussions that there are a lot of misunderstanding we hope to be able to clear up as many of those as possible. Please formulate your questions as specific as possible and we'll make sure to address as many as we can.

Cheers, Khaldor

November 14th Patch - 48 Hours Later

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 02:09 PM PST

View the previous post on Reddit here, or on HeroesHearth here. This is a transcript of my blog post on HeroesHearth. View the original here.

Hello again! After each balance patch, I've taken it upon myself to track how the balance changes have affected the Nexus. It's become something of a habit for me, and I thought it might be fun to share my data with the community.

In case you've forgotten what changed in the last patch, here's a link.

Disclaimer (please read!):

All data provided in this post was collected from Hotslogs, which is a database of player-submitted games. Data was collected between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM EST each day, using the special filter "Last 7 Days (Current Build)" and focusing exclusively on Hero League data (with the exception of heroes like Cho'Gall, whose unique nature requires pulling data from Team League). This post is not meant to suggest any immediate balance changes. Because the sheet only covers 48 hours of matches as of the time of this post, the data is very likely to be unreliable in some cases and may change as the week progresses. I will be giving an update on the status of these heroes after one week has passed. If you'd like to wait until then, feel free to do so. The only purpose of this post is to provide initial information about how the changes have affected things, so that people who are interested in that sort of thing have a resource to look at.

Here is a link to the spreadsheet with the data I've collected. The spreadsheet contains all of my original data, split into two categories: "Composite" (which represents all data across the entire week) and "Daily" (which represents data from each individual day). It also contains a number of graphs showing how each hero is performing in both win rate and popularity. If you'd prefer a summarized report, read on!

Hero Win Rate Win Rate Change Win Rate Error (95% CI) Popularity Popularity Change
Alexstrasza 41.1% -0.5 p.p. ±2.48% 37.1% +5.7 p.p.
Li Li 42.1% -7.8 p.p. ±2.45% 29.3% +9.7 p.p.

The seven-day analysis will take place on November 21st. I think I should offer fair warning that this sample's results are lower than normal due to a parsing error in Hotslogs that caused a lot of games to be left off the total count, from what I can tell. If you submitted games to Hotslogs, you may want to make sure they were put in correctly, and resubmit them if not. A higher pool of data will mean better accuracy!

Finally, for those of you who have been asking about my "secret project(s)", can't really discuss it just yet, so please be patient. :)

And don't forget: My large-scale project, "2017 - A Year of HotS in Review" is still ongoing! Check out the information I've collected so far at the links below!

Some humble advice for Bakery.

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 01:41 PM PST

James "Bakery" Baker used to play for Team Dignitas and this week started professionaly casting the EU Nexus Games.

He seems like a very nice person, and has a very good knowledge of the game, so I think it was a great new addition to our roster of casters.

I know he just started doing it so he obviously has a lot to learn. I would like to offer my humble advice on his performances so far.

His diction it's not the best and he sometimes speaks too fast. This makes it hard for people to understand what he's saying, making most of his insights go over a lot of the viewers heads. Keep in mind that most of the viewers aren't native english speakers and as such you should try to be as clear as possible.

A second thing he does is that he moves his hands a lot. His hands are always up when he speaks and are usually very high (as in, very close to his mouth). This can be very distracting, specially when people have a hard time understanding what you are saying. We use visual information, i.e., your lip movements, to understand speech (besides the acoustic signal), and if your hands are blocking your lips, people won't be able to understand you properly. This is a less important subject since half of the time he's speaking we're just looking at the game.

Now why am I saying all of this? I'm exactly the same: talk too fast, don't have the best diction and use my hands a lot. However, part of my job involves public speaking and I've had people point out these things to me which I'm glad it happened since I had no idea about them at first. This has allowed me to learn and to educate myself to be a better speaker.

My advice for Baker? After his casts he should watch them again, to see if he can notice all of that. Then compare himself to other casters so he can maybe understand what are the differences. Finally, maybe taking some diction classes would be good.

I'm writting all of this because like I said at first, I'm really happy we have him as a caster now and as such I would like to see him succeed and be great at this too.

I don't know if reddit is the best place to be talking about this (he might not read it), but yeah, I figured I should at least put this here.

After the very noisy Junkrat animation, let’s take a moment to appreciate the Alexstrasza menu

Ahh, serenity!

I really think this one turned out great. Nice ambiance and beautiful colors. Hats off to the team!

(Also, so no one gets the wrong idea: I don't think the Junkrat screen could have been a much more perfect fit for him. I'm just really appreciating the calm in contrast.)

Possibly some blood on Frostmourne, showing that he entered the nexus after "succeeding" his father. If not, just the black hood would be great. The cinematic the skin is based on

[BUG] Cassia's Level 4 Talent 'Plate of the Whale' Does not provide health regen from quest.

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 02:57 PM PST

The quest says you get 1 health regen for every 0 basic attacks, and it doesn't provide the regen it normally would.

EDIT: In try mode, using the complete quest option gives you the full 20 regen, but normal quest completion only gives you 14

EU server issues again?

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 04:26 PM PST

Playing a game when two people suddenly leave (there was some team conflict) eventually I get to the point where I hit a random reconnect issue and it just says reconnect for at least 2 min. I decide to alt+F4 and reconect then. However the game just connects normally, no leaver, no nothing, just a loss of a game that shouldn't have ended yet.
