You all made me realise..i was addicted Posted: 18 Nov 2017 02:56 AM PST Hi guys, after certain posts about this game being too expensive and seeing other posts of others and how much theyve spent on this videogame i decided that im going to check it myself. I'm from a country where the minimum wage is below 400€/netto/. I always said to myself that one or two packs cant kill me right? I realised how wrong i was, ive spent exactly 800€ on this card game. I feel ashamed....and dumb [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Nov 2017 11:44 AM PST Here's my transaction history. The parts that read zero are purchases made with amazon coins. My golden collection is laughable. I have a handful of golden legendaries and epics, but not in a way that would allow me to create a Kibler-esque all golden deck. You might think that $1800 would get you there. Not even close. My collection is otherwise competitively complete, but as far as 100% completion, nope. Here are my collection stats from Hearthpwn. As you can see, I'm still missing a sizable amount of epics and legendaries. If I wanted to complete my standard collection, it would cost me over 160,000 dust. Now I'm comfortable enough to feel ok spending this money, I have the disposable income to burn. But the way this game is set up is completely designed to exploit gambling addictions, and Blizzard knows it. Don't let up. This isn't just nerds on reddit bitching as per usual. Something needs to change with the way this game is monetized. I know I'm part of the problem, people like me keep the lights on at Blizzard HQ and that keeps this system in place. But no more. I have not nearly received enough for my $1800. No tournament mode? No ladder reconfiguration? No fix for reconnects? The new set will come out, and everyone will feel ingratiated to have new content. Don't let up. Every AMA, every dev inquiry, let them know that this pricing is not ok, and something needs to change. We've been patient, they've been anemic. EDIT: yeah, it's stupid to spend this much money on a digital card game. That's kind of the point here. I had always deluded myself into thinking I've only spent a few hundred bucks in "here and there" purchases, buying smaller pack bundles for that "just one more till my next legendary" threshold. Hearthstone is designed to never give you what you buy, but to always keep you wanting just one more. Allow my stupidity to be the canary in the coal mine. THIS GAME IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY. Not until massive, sweeping changes are made to its economy. I'm done buying packs, no shenanigans. If this post encourages more whales to do the same, and Blizz starts to see actual hits to their bottom line, maybe they'll get wise. EDIT2: What's with all the rage from f2p players? Calm down, homies. [link] [comments]
I've spent $5 on this game since BRM. Guess how complete my collection is? Posted: 18 Nov 2017 03:16 AM PST It's lacking to be honest. I have all the commons and rares but everybody has those. I have most of the legendaries I need for decks in the meta (standard and wild) but I am missing a lot of the fun ones like Archbishop Benedictus that let me meme it up at rank 20, which is honestly half the fun of the game. I am also missing some important epics. In my Murloc Paladin deck I was forced to play a second Steed instead of one of the Gentle Megasaurs. It felt really bad and I'm 99% sure that's why I only got to rank 4 instead of legend last month.
For $5 I could have got 5 complete bargain basement steam games from 10 years ago rather than this one incomplete game that I have only got about 1500 hours of enjoyment from. If I had spent that same 1500 hours playing League of Legends I would have spent $0 which, if you are good at maths, you would be able to calculate is literally infinitely better value.
Don't let up. This isn't just nerds on reddit bitching as per usual. Something needs to change with the way this game is monetized. I know I'm part of the problem, people like me keep the lights on (for a fairly short amount of time) at Blizzard HQ and that keeps this system in place. But no more. I have not nearly received enough for my $5. No tournament mode? No ladder reconfiguration? No fix for reconnects?
If they release another welcome bundle I will strongly consider not buying it. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Nov 2017 09:35 PM PST Here are some quotes from shareholder documents for Q3 (http://investor.activision.com/results.cfm), some specifically on Hearthstone and some about Activision-Blizzard as a whole. They are in PDF format. Note: They don't explicitly mention exact revenue earned by each franchise. However, for certain franchises like WoW which accounts for a large portion of a particular revenue segment, you can probably make an educated guess.
Other interesting tidbits from the SEC filing that really talk more about the industry as a whole and Activision-Blizzard as a company:
What's interesting is in talking about mobile, they only mentioned Hearthstone when it came to Blizzard whereas they mentioned Candy Crush multiple times when talking their entire company performance. Specifically, as a positive for their performance in mobile (as an entire company), they explicitly mentioned Candy Crush, not Hearthstone:
Their importance to A-B is confirmed later:
Anyways, I thought it was a fun exercise to glean over their documents. It'll be interesting to see now that Hearthstone has switched exclusively to expansions, whether the product will make the shortlist of products that accounted for a huge proportion of income in 2017. [link] [comments]

Xandercrews Rank 1 Legend NA Silence Priest Guide Posted: 18 Nov 2017 06:55 AM PST Greetings! I just hit Rank 1 legend on NA playing almost exclusively Silence Priest this season, so I wanted to share my deck list and a guide. Silence Priest is a fun and strong deck, and I have no idea why it's not more common on ladder. Here's the decklist, legend proof, and some stats: Deck Code: AAECAa0GBtMKtbsC4b8C5MICysMCvsgCDPgC3QTlBKUJ0QryDKmtAqy0AvC7AtHBAtjBAsXHAgA= The core of this deck was based on Florindo's list that I found on Vicious Syndicate. After some experimenting, I ended up with my current list, and I haven't made any changes in the past week or so. For anyone not familiar with the deck, it's a combo deck that wins by playing big minions (ancient watcher & humongous razorleaf) that you can silence and then buff with the divine spirit/inner fire combo. Most of this list is core, but I think there are four flex spots, so I'll discuss the choices I used and some other options below. Golakka Crawler The Golakka is obviously anti-rogue tech. With all the rogues running around, the Golakka seems essential right now. This deck doesn't have any board clears, so the Golakka is really the only way to swing the tempo back in your favor if you get behind early against rogues. This is an obvious cut if rogues become less popular. Tar Creeper This is just a strong overall card, and it's high health for the mana cost synergizes with our strategy. I've tried cutting this card, but a common problem with this deck is that there aren't many big minions, so you just get blown out if your hand gets clogged with buffs/silence spells and no minions. Tar creeper makes the deck more consistent by giving us one more minion with high health for those buff spells. Adding a second tar creeper would be a solid choice if you wanted to cut any other card. Shadow Word: Death This is a card that I haven't seen in any other silence priest lists, but it seems great to me. It's really powerful against big druid, which are everywhere at legend ranks. The druid's best strategy against us is to ramp and then clear our board with Deathwing. Without a SW:D, you are basically toast at that point, but SW:D allows you to recover and win that game. SW:D is also a solid card against rogues and every deck running Bonemare. Kabal Songstealer I'm not sure about this card. I added it after a few games in a row where I lost because I had big dumb minions on the board with no silences. It makes the deck more consistent, but it's a fair card for the mana cost, and this is Hearthstone, so I'm not sure if that's good enough. Another downside is that it's the only SW:D target in the deck, so it gives priest a way to use that card against us. Circle of Healing x2 I've tried running 2 copies of circle of healing in the deck, and circles seem like a great choice even without other synergies like Auchenai or pyromancer. You frequently have multiple damaged minions on the board, so it gives you potential to draw multiple cards with cleric or to just keep your big minions alive and outside AOE range after trading. I ended up cutting these for a golakka and a SW:D, because I was seeing almost exclusively rogue and big druid for a while at high legend, but I'm not sure if that was correct. I encourage you to check out Esteban's Silence Priest list on vicious syndicate right now. He uses 2 circles of healing, and that list might be better suited for a more diverse meta outside of high legend. Or maybe even better where I was playing. Test it out. Marin the Fox This is a fun card that synergizes with the deck, but it's just too slow for the current meta. Crazed Alchemist I've considered running this card to make the combo more consistent, but you really don't need it. This will be a staple if skulking geist ever becomes popular again, but I don't think it's worth playing for now. Mulligan Guide:
Those are the basics, but if you already have a big minion and a silence effect in your hand, then you can often consider keeping other cards. You need to consider your matchup and how your curve is starting to look. Matchup Guide: Big Druid (Heavily Favored) This matchup is the reason to play Silence Priest. Current big druid lists aren't running any silence effects or single target removal, so you don't have to worry about saving the divine spirit/inner fire combo for lethal. Just play all your buffs and create the biggest minion you can. You can also safely play divine spirit on your razorleaf (after you silence it of course) without inner fire in your hand just to keep its health as high as possible while you wait to draw inner fire. If you can create a 16/16 razorleaf early, you basically win. As I mentioned earlier, the easiest way to lose is if the druid can clear your board with a Deathwing. If you are ahead on board going into the turn they have 10 mana (you know…turn 5 or 6), then you should save a minion in your hand to play after the Deathwing turn. Also save SW:D (or shadow visions) for Deathwing if at all possible. You are heavily favored in this matchup, so it's OK to play a little conservatively to play around the only way you can lose. Jade Druid (Heavily Favored) This matchup has a very similar strategy as big druid, except that they can use their little green men early on to chip away at the health of your big minions. Just keep your biggest minion as healthy as you can to be ready for the combo, and you should usually win this way before their green men become threatening. It's worth noting that some Jade Druids play spell breaker. I only saw it a couple times this season, but it's something to consider if it becomes more popular. Tempo Rogue (Even to Unfavored) The strategy against rogues is completely different than druid. Rogues have excellent single target removal, but they struggle to deal with a wide board. Try to play as many minions as you can, and prioritize using your hero power to keep your lower health minions alive for trading, instead of keeping your biggest minion with higher health for the combo. Vilespine is a scary card against this deck, so pay attention to when the rogue can play it, and try to minimize the damage it can do. If you have a big minion on board, and they are saving the coin past turn 3, then they probably have vilespine, and they are planning to coin it out on turn 4. Only use divine spirit and/or inner fire early on if you have shambler, and you have an opportunity to play the shambler on it before their vilespine turn. Rogue can't deal with 2 big minions, so that basically locks up the game. In any other situation, you want to play more smaller minions on board instead of buffing your bigger minions early, so the vilespine isn't a blowout. Also, prioritize killing vilespine over other minions so they can't shadow step it. Don't always play golakka on turn 2 if Rogue opens with the 2 pirates. Sometimes it's better to save the golakka for a huge tempo swing by hitting a bigger pirate on turn 3 or 4 (especially now that some are playing corsairs). If I have a choice between golakka or potion of madness to answer the patches opening, I'll always use the potion. Razakus Priest (Favored) This is a fun matchup with a lot of decision making on both sides. The key to this matchup is developing your board in a way that makes it harder for the opponent to answer, while you setup a big minion for the divine spirit/inner fire lethal. You always need to pay attention to the answers they have left in their deck, most importantly: Dragonfire, Pint-sized/horror, Auchenai/Circle, and silence. If they still have AOE (and they probably do), then it's best not to overextend onto the board. Keep just enough minions on the board to maintain board control while you try to draw into the combo. When healing your minions, prioritize healing the highest health 4 attack minion. If they have already played pint-size and silence, then they don't have any way to deal with a big 4 attack minion, so it's safe to play divine spirit and other health buffs to make it as high health as possible while you wait to setup an inner fire lethal. Also, keep in mind that you are playing against a singleton deck. It may seem like it sometimes, but they don't always have the answer they need. Sometimes if things aren't going your way, you need to just drop Lyra with a divine spirit and hope they don't have a Pain or silence to deal with it. If they don't…a full turn with Lyra and a radiant can be crazy enough to come back from almost any situation. Aggro Druid (Favored) This is a fairly straight forward matchup. Just kill their stuff and stay alive. If you can create a big minion and play a shambler, then you win. Here's a fun play with a radiant on board: potion of madness/inner fire on their 1/9 Crypt Lord, play a 9/9 shambler, trade Crypt Lord into their bittertide hydra, then purify it to give them back the little guy and draw a card. Zoo (Heavily Favored) I initially thought this would be a tough matchup, but I'm 20-5 against Warlock this season (and 2 or 3 of those losses were against control warlocks with geist). I think what it comes down to is that Zoo is a fair minion based deck, and our minions are bigger. Zoo is a little slower than aggro druid, so you can afford to play each turn putting the most stats on the board as possible, instead of getting a taunt down ASAP. Similar to Aggro Druid, you win if you can create a big minion and then play a shambler. Quest Mage (Favored) It turns out silencing your own minions is pretty good against an opponent that freezes your board. Quest mage doesn't play any hard removal (well, except glyph), so just make the biggest minion you can early to bash them in the face. Save a silence effect in hand for the later rounds when they start freezing your board, and you can usually win before they draw their combo. Bonus points for killing them with their own doomsayer. And I'm tired of typing, so that's it for the guide. Hopefully this helps, and some of you enjoy the deck. I'm happy to answer any questions below. [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 06:42 AM PST This season I have played wild almost exclusively. When the year of the mammoth hit I made the mistake of disenchanting all of my wild legendaries and epics (save for Brann and Reno) and last month I saved up enough dust for a Legendary. My choices were Ysharaaj or Gul'dan, I was reluctant to craft Ysharaaj since it is rotating soon. But then I thought that after the next rotation I'm still going to lose a lot of cards so maybe I should be trying wild to see what the format had to offer. I started looking at lists and noticed a key difference with standard; most of the really useful wild legendaries are neutral. Loatheb, sir Finley, Reno, Emperor Thaurissan, Boom and Nzoth, all of them fit into a lot of decks and since nothing rotates out in wild crafting them gives you more value. I think that at some points more players will notice this and make the change to wild. The game is really cheaper this way, and since there's so many cards in wild, deck variety is incredible [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 12:12 PM PST For the uninitiated, this isn't for any actual lore reason. Its just a massive WoW meme. Basically any time someone links Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker in trade chat, everyone starts spamming it. The same thing happens (to a lesser extent) whenever someone links Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian, and Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros, but both of these weapons have already been introduced to HS (Medivh and Warrior quest). Thoughts? Any weapons you'd like to see? [link] [comments]

Remove the Red Notification Tag from Open Packs When Packs are Unavailable Posted: 17 Nov 2017 12:48 PM PST I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but am I the only person that finds this annoying? Whenever I see the little red number I tap it thinking I'll have a pack, only to find that Blizzard has played me for a fool again. This deception should be dealt with. My Suggestion: They could keep the red number there until you have seen that you have packs, and then it would be removed. Edit: This probably sounded more like a complaint than it was supposed to, it's just supposed to be a suggestion. [link] [comments]
Would you like to see Achievements and Challenges added? Posted: 17 Nov 2017 02:04 PM PST I was never a huge 'Achievement Hunter' in WoW, but I feel like Hearthstone could use some achievements/challenges/feats of strength, starting with basics like:
And getting more complex, like:
Would you like to see achievements/challenges/feats of strength? What would be some fun, interesting, or just plain preposterous ones you can think up? Edit: As some have pointed out, some of the achievement's may need to be gated behind different play modes in order to keep people from just cheesing them with their friends. Also, many people commented about getting rewards (gold, packs, portraits, or new hero models). I take no position on this. I do think certain grindy or difficult achievements could have neat rewards like allowing you to select a title to go after (or before) your name. Examples:

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 06:49 AM PST A lot has been said on this sub the past several days about this game and it seems to me overwhelmingly negative and I'm just curious; Why do you play Hearthstone? For me, I threw my hat to the ring here: https://redd.it/7do4v6 I love that I can play a competitive card game, put in a (comparatively) reasonable amount of my own cash, and with some gameplay and crafting strategy field 2-4 competitive decks (I've currently got 4 reasonably competitive decks), which is more than I could ever say with Magic or any card game growing up. As a promotion for the next expansion, they should add random Treasure Goblin encounters in the game Posted: 17 Nov 2017 08:35 PM PST For those that have never played Diablo 3, Treaure Goblins are monster that appear randomly and drop good loot. Since the next expansion has the whole finding treasure theme to it it seems like it would be a good crossover if they had an AI treasure goblin as a random encounter in the weeks leading up to release. How they could implement it would be like this:
Any downside? [link] [comments]

I spent over $3,000 on this game... My collection is ok. Posted: 17 Nov 2017 02:46 PM PST http://www.hearthpwn.com/members/thorkys/collection I thought I'd see how much I have spent on this game after seeing so many others bring it up, and the number surprised me! It was definitely more than I thought it would be. The $0.00 is because many of my purchases were through iOS or Android. Having said that, I'm not fully satisfied with my collection, which says a lot after spending $3,000+ on it. I don't have a single fully golden deck, I was close with dragon priest but those golden epics.... the dusting and crafting system for Hearthstone is easily my least favorite part, crafting golden cards just feels bad because at the epic, rare and common levels that are way overpriced. A simple change in this would have made a huge difference. I didn't have a problem with Hearthstone's model until I read a post on Reddit where a user described their experience with Hearthstone addiction and how it affected them. Prior to Hearthstone, I avoided games with in-app purchases because I was inherently against the model and believed it to be predatory in games. I did not think this for Hearthstone because I felt that it had actual content, but that content quality is decreasing to the point it's not even enjoyable anymore. Even so, I continued to support the game, but now I had a feeling of 'this hurts people.' The more I read the negative and hurtful experiences of players who were not as lucky as me, or don't have as much disposable income as me, the more I feel this isn't ethical. I believe Hearthstone's current model - and other games like it, such as Battlefront 2, are predatory and hurtful as they do feed addictions - as I'm sure most people on this sub are aware by now, it's basically a Skinner box. I can't, in good conscience, support a game that does this. However, that isn't my only problem with Hearthstone. My other problem is Hearthstone's model decreases the quality of other games. Because this type of model is more profitable otherwise amazing AAA games like Elder Scrolls Oblivion (you get all the content with the purchase) are becoming rarer, the gaming industry has simply become less enjoyable for me over the years and I was wondering why - this is why. Even Hearthstone's own game quality is decreasing because of this pay to not win and feel bad model. I will not continue to support this game monetarily by buying packs even though I had about $300 set aside with the sole purpose of pack buying with the new expansion. I will donate that $300 to a useful cause. This isn't a question of whether you personally still enjoy the game or not, it's a question of ethics and taking advantage of vulnerable populations. Tl;dr : I spent 3k on this game, don't like how people are used by the system, and how the additional content required system* is reducing game quality. [link] [comments]
