Guild Wars 2 - After 5 years of gw2 I think cosmetic endgame just isn't doing it for me any more.

After 5 years of gw2 I think cosmetic endgame just isn't doing it for me any more.

I know this video is outdated now (and is long af so I'll try to summarize), but the major point of what Brazil says here is that a lot of the gem store skins we get have much higher quality than the skins available without the gem store. The example he uses is foefire armor vs legendary armor - saying that the transformations are cool but with all the dying issues, lack of particle effects when stowed, etc. All would make a new player assume the foefire gear is more "legendary" looking.

For the past 2 years or so the gemstore skins have started to look cooler and cooler - which is great that they are producing skins that look cool, but compared to skins offered in game I always find myself leaning towards gemstore skins. It's gotten to the point that even with all the new skins released with PoF I wasn't very excited about any but some of the elite spec weapons because pretty much everything else couldn't hold a light to the skins that were in the gem store. Ascended armor doesn't even have as much variety as exotic armor in game, and both ascended and exotic armor that can be attained outside of the gemstore look very bland in comparison.

I think this whole mount issue has really brought the issue to light because there is no way to get mount skins without the gemstore, and even with glider skins I think most people would argue that many of the gemstore skins look better than what are basically legendary gliders.

Because of this game's cosmetic endgame I have legendarys that I don't want to skin over because they are more impressive than gemstore skins, however, there are easily dozens of gem store skins I think are more aesthetically pleasing than the legendaries I own. This puts me in a situation where I have to chiose to either show off a prestigious achievement or choose something I think looks good. Because I chose to show off prestige I feel like I haven't been able to participate in endgame progression as much as I would be able to if I were to use the gemstore. I think this has me feeling a bit lost right now and very unmotivated to keep playing.

I think one major flaw of the gem store is that when the entire game's endgame is hunting for cosmetics and all the best cosmetics are in the gemstore you either end up playing the gemstore, or you end up feeling like you aren't able to participate in endgame and all you do is watch you gold stack grow.

Anyways I just wanted to hear other people's thoughts on whether the cosmetic endgame has worn on you over the years, or if you are still able to enjoy it or if you even agree with me on gemstore skins looking better (largely subjective i know).

Edit: another amazing point Brazil brought up that I had forgot about waa that when they made legendary armor their reason for making another trench coat was because they wanted each armor weight to have a specific silhouette so when you fight another player you can more easily determine what class they are. However, outfits and gemstore armor skins that are the same across all weights completely invalidate that statement.

The Red Lady, dead bodies and "DS"...

Posted: 09 Nov 2017 12:10 PM PST

Two dead corpses can be found in Godlost's Swamp and Reaper's Gate- the victims are an unknown person and a priest of Grenth.

When you interact with Grenth's priest you can find a journal that says something creepy...

You find a journal clutched in the priest's hand. Bloodstains render it unreadable save for a few words and the initials DS.

and... "...speaks to me in dreams_the red lady_seeking allies_answer the call..." O_o

What's that supposed to mean??? 'DS'? 'The Red Lady'?

Here is a link: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dead_Body

Anyway, that's creepy..

Legendary weapons... going to get swappable sigils, like armor has for runes?

Posted: 09 Nov 2017 02:45 PM PST

Title says it; unsure if this has been addressed recently on the official cesspool (forums) by a dev.

Would be a serious QOL improvement that I'm fairly positive everyone would be greatful for.

Voting for Design a Weapon contest ends tomorrow and we still haven't got any statement about the abusable voting system or the sword that was designed as a dagger :(

Posted: 09 Nov 2017 05:12 AM PST

I'm not mad about the voting system or the maybe wrong label on the weapon, but very disappointed, that these things seemed to be ignored and I still don't know what to vote for :/ The design a Weapon contest is a great thing but it feels bad how it's handled.

About Black Lion chests unique skins RNG (wild magic backpack etc...)

Posted: 09 Nov 2017 04:41 AM PST

Hi fellow guild wars 2 players,

Just wanted to share my feelings, in regard of the recent "mount skins" meltdown, about another problem I have and just found out about. Yesterday night, I've discovered by accident the existence of the new "wild magic" backpack, and instantly fell in love with it. Apparently, the only way to get it is to try the RNG (again) black lion keys game. I must say that I'm pretty used to invest real money in this game (about 20€/week, which makes me a wealthy player I guess). So I've tried to buy keys to get the skin (I usually never buy keys), and guess what, it didn't work out. I've spent about 50€ for...almost nothing, and for the first time in my five years guild wars 2 experience, I just feel bad. For me and for this game. I don't mind spending money to get stuff (never was a problem during these past five years), but wasting money and feeling like I've just played casino, well...it's not the game I want to spend money on, and I can even see danger in it. I remember buying the Kasmeer staff few years ago, it felt expensive but right. Now this RNG stuff... I'm just feeling that it might make me actually quit the game. Which is a shame, as I love it really much. I've read and discovered it's not new (looking at you Balthazar's helm), so I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but it looks like its kind of the same RNG issue as with mount skins. My two cents.

Raid bosses pathfindings are out of hand

Posted: 09 Nov 2017 08:26 AM PST

TL;DR:
Some raid bosses have real issues with their pathfinding.

FULL TEXT:
For quite a while now, raid bosses have had very strange behavior and struggle to follow the person tanking.
It happens very often on Vale Guardian and Mursaat Overseer.
Keep Construct's moonwalking statues were annoying when this bug was a thing, well it's kind of the same on multiple bosses.

My raid group experiences every time a pathfinding problem.
I used to joke on it and even made a "funny" video about it.
You can have a glance here if you're interested : https://youtu.be/HxHqKlEMyFg

I though it was funny until last week, one of my raid group (not an exp one but still) spend 2hours on VG and failed mostly because the boss was not following the tank, then the green aoe spawned in the wrong tier and we were pretty much nuked because it happens too often.
(no crazy dps here, just trying to do the mecanics)

This week (the day after the patch), I decided to pull the boss almost all over the edge because I knew the boss will move away.
And this happened (you want to check this one) : https://go.twitch.tv/videos/188887739?t=00h00m28s

The boss went to the middle as "expected", then spaced out for a few seconds, moved to the wrong place until it finally picked up traces of toughness from the tank and got back on track.

It happens almost everytime at the same spot when you move from the blue tier to the red tier during the last phase of the boss (remaining 33%).

At the end of the raiding session we talked about how we could avoid this problem.
Better dps of course means less time to fight. But it doesn't change the fact we had to get at least one rotation around the arena.

Then we all agreed that it might in fact be simpler to train to distord the green aoe and stand in the middle.
To some extend I enjoy these strats, however I would like to be able to train my teammates to not rely on 2 very skilled mesmers to do the job and skip mecanics for "the greater good" of the kill.
IMO these strats should be done when you reached the point where the boss is trivial and you want to do it faster.
Not when you're training people.

Also I've mentionned Mursaat Overseer, well in this case, it was with a team of very experienced people and very good dps numbers.
Just when we needed to move to a safe space because of the spikes, the fixated player had to move a bit.
The boss reaction was to leave the center and move all across the room to the edge, to finally come back to the center where the fixation was.

It's probaly not the best time to get some attention on this because of the mount skins topics popping everywhere.
But if this could be acknowledged by other people, it might still be noticed.

Notes from the comments:
u/nicky_pe illustrated the MO problem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKBMhqMJXPU
u/FBX Deimos - tank would run through Deimos while staying on the edge of the platform, Deimos would run to the middle (!!) and drop oil in the middle before re-latching onto tank and following him

Don't be sad, take some Blackberry Pie and have +50 precision

Posted: 09 Nov 2017 06:57 AM PST

Hi, reddit! I know that everybody are in a little (or even not in a little) stress last days, so i wanna share with you smth nice and yummy.

First of all: GW2 cooking recipes are awesome. And it's really cool to repeat them in real life! So i decided to start with something easy: pies and tarts. May be next i will take some higher tier things, like risotto or souffle...

Anyway! Here they are: Ginger Pear Tart and Blackberry Pie, made under game recipes without any unspecified ingredients.

I looped the Mistlock Sanctuary background music

Posted: 09 Nov 2017 04:11 PM PST

It always bothered me that the music in the Sanctuary ends abruptly so I made a 1 hour loop.

It's similar to Taimi's game theme, but not quite the same. I also looped the 2nd theme that plays, but that's just unchanged 'Rata Novus' theme, so I donno if there's any point to upload that? Lemme know if you want to see it.

Let's talk about the pug raid meta

Posted: 09 Nov 2017 04:28 AM PST

Ok, so I did a lot of pug raids yesterday and I saw most of the groups on EU were still using 5:5 Mirrorcomp.

I am proposing a newer meta comp for pick up groups, whom's intention it is to safely clear a raid.

This doesn't mean this is the best squad comp. I want people on this thread to theorycraft a squadcomp which is safe but also ensures build variaty!

Warning: THIS IS NOT THE MOST OPTIMAL SQUADCOMP FOR SPEEDCLEARS

The Grace of the Land change makes it possible for a druid with enough boonduration to stack and maintain 25 might on 10 people. On top of that the spitis also go to 10 people now which means a seconds druid is not required anymore for most cases. This also means that 1 Warrior who brings Banner of Discipline and Banner of Strength will be enough to provide the Banner buffs to 10 people. So we basically have 2 free spots now.

The most optimal would be to run 2 extra dps classes there but for most pug groups, the heals wont be enough. My suggestion would be to bring one extra healer which basically could be anything. This also means that for the first time there are spots for heal eles, heal revenants or heal what every in squad comps. The Warrior could be either a DPS warrior which just provides banners or, if the might from the druid is somehow not enough, just still go with Phalanx Strength to fill the might downtimes.

A Squadcomp could look like this:

Squad Class Class Class Class Class
Group 1 DPS/PS Warrior DPS DPS DPS Chrono
Group 2 Second Healer / DPS DPS DPS Chrono
Group 3 Might Druid

2nd option:

Squad Class Class Class Class Class
Group 1 DPS/PS Warrior Second Healer DPS DPS Chrono
Group 2 Might Druid Dps DPS DPS Chrono

Cons:

One of the problems of this squadcomp is fury. I am not entirely sure how you would cover fury for 10 people. Druids might need to bring tiger and/or red moa and the warrior FGJ. A second problem is that the druid would require to run a build which has close to 100% boonduration, which means that a lot of the people playing magi druid right now would need to change their current gear. Obviously a lot of people wont do that and just join pug raids with magi gear and the group will end up without beeing capped on might.

Pros:

The positive thing about this squad comp is build variaty. You have 2 extra spots which can be covered either by 2 dps or by 1 dps 1 healer. This means people will finally have the change to play Healing Ele or Healing Rev, which both provide more sustain heals than druid. This means that heals in general could be much stronger than before. Healing revs also can provide alacrity, might, fury, protection while healing eles can give a lot of frost aura and cleanse conditions.

I really hope that the mirror comp meta for pug groups dies and we can find a better comp for safer and more fun raids.

Please post your suggestions or criticism below.

What's wrong with me ?

Posted: 09 Nov 2017 10:19 AM PST

The forum / reddit these days are full of threads about the company's behavior to sell skins at excessive prices.

When I logged on tuesday night and saw the costs of gems, I did not feel any anger or sorry: I simple do not have enough money to buy them, but I'm glad if others have and want to spend to collect them all.

I admit that spending gems for just have a chance to get what you want is really not the best solution, but maybe not even have the world full of Storm raptor, Piroclasts or Starbound is: if we all share the same skin, that skin it will soon lose all importance like it happens for most of the outfits.

I do not understand all this anger... I simple can't forget that I'm playing guild wars 2 for five years without paying a cent (for the monthly fee), POF is an awesome expansion sold at really honest price and my lovely GW1 servers are still open...

Really what's wrong with me ?

I apologize for my eng and fell free to downvote me.

Edit: without paying a cent (for the monthly fee I mean) =)

Exotic black diamonds can be exchanged with vendors in Amnoon... So where did you move all the vendors to?

Is this supposed to be some kind of joke? There's not a single vendor in Amnoon now. There were vendors near repair anvils and bank/tp. Why even remove them in the first place?
