is the cabot house quest actually a metaphor for the main quest? (spoilers for both quests!) Posted: 16 Nov 2017 08:43 AM PST TL;DR - the main quest and the cabot house quest share several significant themes first off I have to say I don't like the cabot house quest, it doesn't have anything to do with the rest of the game and in my opinion it just doesn't fit. that's exactly the reason I was trying so hard to find a reason for why they would even put such a quest in the game. I know fallout games have a tendency to hint at the super-natural (dunwich stuff, the ghost girl in nuka world, etc.) but this isn't just a hint, this is one of the biggest, most elaborate quests in the game. So I searched around a little and I saw some people treat it as hint for a future fallout, just as the android quest in FO3 was a hint at FO4. I really hope that's not the case. some people see this quest as a reference to NV because Jack mentions the artifact is from the mojave. some see it as a continuation of all the lovecraft references from the various dunwich locations. But as I see it, the biggest justification for this quest to exist is because it's supposed to echo the conflict of the main quest and give us sort of an outside perspective. and I will explain why: both quests involve a father and a son, but in reverse roles. the cabot quest is closer to the natural order of things with the father being older, so let's say lorenzo stands for father (shaun) and jack stands for the sole survivor. both jack and the sole survivor have a father/father figure who in the name of science holds a powerful force, for lorenzo it's the artifact and for shaun it's the institute. this force can be used for the betterment of mankind, but these people use it in unethical ways, claiming to do it to advance science. even lorenzo who is obviously crazy is working in the name of science - if we choose to free him we can later find him examining bodies of ghouls he murdered, treating it as an experiment. another similarity is that both the cabots and the SS and shoun all have longer life spans, the cabots because of the serum and the artifact and the sole survivor and shaun thanks to the cryo pods in vault 111. and finally - both jack and the sole survivor have a tough decision to make - going against a close family member to protect the commonwealth, and also losing a very valuable asset that can benefit both them and the rest of the commonwealth if it gets in the right hands. so these are the similarities I found between the two quests. but is there anything to learn from the comparison between them? I... can't really say. not something that i can think of anyway. but it might at least suggest why this quest is in the game in the first place. other than that i hope you can find something meaningful to learn from this... oh and sorry for any spelling mistakes, I'm not stupid, just not a native english speaker ): [link] [comments]
All Male Voice Lines in Fallout 4 For a Mod Posted: 15 Nov 2017 11:11 PM PST I wanted to try and record my voice to go over the male lone wanderer lines. I just need help finding the full script. I have no idea where it even is. [link] [comments]
Does anyone else do this with their characters hair? Posted: 16 Nov 2017 01:03 AM PST So when playing FO4 I always have a tendency to make my character's hair longer (& beard if playing as a man) as I play the game further idek why, it helps with immersion I guess. Sometimes I'll even make it greyer. Does anyone else do this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Nov 2017 06:36 AM PST New Vegas is a great game, but I recently found out about the debut trailer that shows an almost completely different game. In the game the Strip is one of the most underwhelming parts of the game. So my question is, is there a mod or a group of mods that improves the Strip and the entire game. Returning it to the original vision? [link] [comments]
I am currently in the process of making a fallout RPG/version of DnD and thought I should share. Posted: 16 Nov 2017 01:02 PM PST some backstory, some friends and i have long wanted to play DnD but had some trouble getting into the fantasy of a world we didn't know. so i suggested we play a fallout version, as we had all played 3,NV, and 4. some quick searches online provided little to any help on any completed versions or anything. I set it upon myself to make one. Being the most creative/only one willing too, i set upon making the story as the GM, and slowly created Raiders and Wastes. i started with character creation using F4 as the basis of character development. Human, Ghoul, Synth, Assaultron, or super mutant each with their own characteristics and play style. then i used fallout 4's perks chart, and modified the ones that wouldn't apply in an rpg. Then i had to craft a map and a story. I decided to use pacific northwest, namely Washington as our map and researched all things fallout about Washington and found very little. Next up was the story, one of my group asked if the Enclave could be included in my story, and due to the lack of enclave content in the games generally, i set my story upon that. the enclave hiring merc's to track down rare and powerful pieces of technology and return it to the enclave headquarters. Due to the parties lack of experience playing a RPG i didn't know what story they would most want to take, so i built 3. an easy, a medium and a hard storyline/ time length. each started and ended at the same area but the difference was location of the Technology they had to find. Finally came the physical pieces, like the board, dice, mini's, character sheet, a lot of Bottlecaps, and a couple other things. sadly due to scheduling issues, it won't be played for a couple months. i am continuing to polish ideas, story and models, and thought this might be the place to share. (if not, sorry i couldn't find anywhere else to post about it), tells me what you think. [link] [comments]
| Why does the Brotherhood of Steel get so much hate? Posted: 16 Nov 2017 12:55 PM PST Is it just me or does the Brotherhood get an unnecessary amount of hate? I admit there are a few douchebags cough* Proctor Teagan* cough* and maybe they are a bit too hellbent on killing every single ghoul, super mutant and synth in existence, but hey they're making the world a safer place. | Is it possible for power armour to be stolen? (Fallout 4) Posted: 16 Nov 2017 07:44 AM PST So I started a new playthrough recently, and so far I had managed to aquire almost 2 sets of power armour, and I've just noticed one of my completed set is missing and is nowhere to be found, I'm wondering if someone can get into it and just run off with it. (I've been attacked a few times whilst base building, dunno if that has anything to do with it.) Any help solving this is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
NV: 1 Perception = Best Fast Traveling? Posted: 16 Nov 2017 02:14 PM PST as long as im hidden and an enemy doesn't show on my compass I can fast travel even tho enemies are definitely close to me. im looking at them half the time and can still leave. So since perception effects enemies shown on compass does that mean 1 perception w 100 sneak would give me the biggest windows for fast traveling, especially out of hectic situations? not implying its OP just curious lol [link] [comments]

Heard you can get a second dog. Is this true? Posted: 16 Nov 2017 06:01 AM PST In FO4 apparently you can get a second dog. If this is true how? I've only seen mutant hounds other than dogmeat. [link] [comments]
| what FO4 faction is est for the commonwealth (morally) Posted: 16 Nov 2017 11:44 AM PST at first glance it the answer may seem obvious: It's the railroad, they protect rouge synths, but as the sole survivor you're not only destroying a few of the factions you're deciding the fate of the commonwealth, once the institute is gone the railroad will have no purpose and will either fall apart or become a dictatorship.the brotherhood is not the correct answer either, maxons obvious hatred and want of genocide toward non-humans makes him an incorrect answer. The answer lies with the institute,at the end of the institute playthrough father Dies of cancer leaving you as the director of the institute this means you can do anything (well you can't in the the game because screw free choice.) including ending the murders and replacements, make peace with the top making them the best possible choice. | ⚡️Fan opinion piece on Fallout 4⚡️ Posted: 16 Nov 2017 10:39 AM PST So the differences between F4 and previous games are glaringly obvious. The very dry quests combined with the new vanilla dialogue interface are sure to leave the fallout lover wondering just what happened to the franchise. BUT, going on two years playing F4 now, Ive found myself really enjoying what the game is NOT dry on and where it's strengths are. Bethesda was obviously doing SOMETHING during the 5 year gap (not writing quests lol), and that was creating a dense, rich, post apocalyptic world with an unmistakable fallout themed aesthetic...from scratch. I don't think there's any debate here that they hit the mark for sure. It's clear that their resources were funneled heavily into art direction and world building. This actually offers a new experience for the fallout player in that when exploring, particularly city areas, it feels less like your in a destroyed wasteland and more like your discovering a world that once was. Then just when you thought you were safe and taking in all the detail, a good ol' nasty feral crawls out from a window and hurls itself at you. This is why fallout 4 is good smoothskins. It is simply a unique experience. It's Its own thing, period. This is a game about surviving, exploring, crafting, trading and shooting your way through day to day life in post nuclear Boston. And let me tell you, immersive/lore friendly mods enhance this experience from vanilla tenfold. Not to mention that the graphics/weather just bring everything to life in ways previous games could not. F4 is NOT a game about finding your son, making choices or making a trait specific character to interact with the world. If that's what you love and have come to expect from the franchise, then I hate to say it, but it's just a real sad era for you unfortunately. It appears Bethesda was very optimistic that they could create the definitive Fallout experience with both player choice and exploration on a next-gen scale...but only the latter was achieved. Its a huge task, so I gotta give em' some damn credit. Remember, these are literally the dudes that worked on F3. Seriously though, this does not mean it's justified to write off F4 officially with critique such as that it "lacks in depth" or "fails to live up to the franchise". These are much more in line with personal player opinions than fair, constructive review. F4 has huge strengths and it would be irresponsible not to highlight them. Especially replayability, the Commonwealth is HIGHLY re playable (settlements, dlc etc.) I have over a thousand hours on this game and there are still certain areas I haven't really explored. I almost quit F4 in the months following my first play through. It was all too much for me; the dense map, the lackluster main questline, settlements, just everything. It was so different. But then mods made their way into the mix, followed by survival mode and before I knew it my imagination literally ran wild and filled the RPG void that was left by Bethesda. Thanks for reading! Now get out there and enjoy what the Commonwealth has to offer! [link] [comments] |

Anyone noticed you can hear a casing drop against the floor when Kellogg kills your spouse? Posted: 16 Nov 2017 01:43 PM PST H-he's using a revolver, how's that make sense? At least, i swear its a casing noise, like when you drop it on the ground] since the gunshot is still audible during this. Bethesda.... [link] [comments]

Fallout 3 loading crash with ArchiveInvalidation Enabled. Posted: 16 Nov 2017 09:35 AM PST When I activate ArchiveInvalidation (in both .exe and NMN), it will crash at the startup. With it disabled, it will startup fine (but no texture mods work, obviously). Both NMN and FO3 Edit do not show any loading/order issues. Any ideas what can cause this error? I dont really want to spend another hours modding everything. [link] [comments]

[Discussion] DLC and the roadblocks within them Posted: 16 Nov 2017 01:06 PM PST For a little context I'm doing both Nuka World and Far Harbor as I'd never played them before. I recently completed Nuka World and really enjoyed it. The setting and atmosphere, the lore throughout each area, everything was great. Then you get to Home Sweet Home and I could feel all the fun I'd been having melt away immediately. I hate the settlement nonsense in this game and never use it, I never build with or interact with that part of the game. Yet here I was, forced to set up settlements while I play fucking Fetch quests traveling back and forth. It really ruined my mood for the DLC, it seems petty, but I didn't enjoy a single second of it. Fast forward to this week and I'm playing Far Harbor. I just got to the memory blocks puzzle for DiMA. THEY FUCKING DID IT AGAIN, another section of the DLC that completely destroys any fun or enjoyment I was having. This is so asinine even Hank Hill would kick someone's ass over it. Genuinely hope the person/people responsible for this section were fired for gross incompetence, because this is pathetic. Rant Over. [link] [comments]
Games like New Vegas? [Suggestion] Posted: 16 Nov 2017 12:37 PM PST Fallout 4 was a pretty big disappointment to me and since its release I've become pretty disinterested in video games as a whole, but I feel an urge to play a great rpg again. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
