The Leviathan should become a 6-man Patrol Zone

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 03:52 AM PST

Bungie said it themselves, "The Leviathan eats planets, it's massive". Even with Raid and two Raid Lairs, that still won't show it's true size. Opening up the city atop the ship, or an expansive labyrinth of the underbelly as an EDZ or Nessus sized patrol zone made for 6 people, would not only add another sense scale to the Leviathan but it would also give it a unique feeling as the zone could have more intense raid-like public events, lost sectors and such

It could give the game another 6-player activity outside of just raids. It would also be great for Raid Lair vendors, if we are getting different tokens for their respective Lairs we'll need separate vendors and I don't know about having an army of hacked sweeperbots living in the tower.

Bungie, please PLEASE do not add a timer to heroic strikes

Title. If that's what makes strikes "harder," I for one will be very sad.

Bungie, could we ditch the token system; at least on the raid?

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 05:21 AM PST

The removal remarkable lack of non-token drops is terrible and it really kills my desire to raid any more.

The whole reason I did raids was to group up with friends and see who could get what and when we saw a Fatebringer, Black Spindle Hammer or Ghally drop we would all lose our minds. Now there is no excitement at the end. We might get an engram or two and then its all tokens. We dont get to be jealous of our teammates or friends when we see that Mythoclast/Ghally drop. The second I saw the tokens at the end of the raid I just imagined my Guardian digging through the chest and picking up a small bag of coins and looking at the other Guardians he had just gone through hell with and going "Really? What the hell do I do with this?"

Bungie plz. I want that little bit of MMO feel back. I want to see that huge list of loot drop for my fireteam.

-------------------------------------------

We could actually keep the tokens but have them SUPPLEMENT regular drops. Complement the D1 Iron Banner system: Earn rewards in activity and tokens can be used to buy pieces (on a rotation) that you are missing for a set amount of tokens and glimmer. Better yet, have something like in enxhange 50 tokens you can get an exotic engram from the vendor.

Examples. I beat Calus and get a scout rifle, armor bit and say 5 tokens. Let's say I've got 20 tokens from the raid. I go to the vendor and see what he's got. I can use the tokens to buy a weapon or armor that didn't drop for me or I could save the tokens for guaranteed exotic.

-----------------------------------------------

Change the stupid glimmer gear buys into token buys on a rotation!!

From u/small_law

"....And don't get me started on the f_cking token system. Chances at rewards are not rewards, they are chances. We need to start understanding that collectively. You should be able to pay for the stuff you want with tokens. That gives them actual value."

.

Bungie, by the end of D1 we had learned to fear balance patches rather than look forward to them, please don't make this the case with your season 2 update

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 06:13 AM PST

Title says most of it really.

For every one positive weapon balance change, two things were broken (typically in PvE..) and if something was considered overpowered it was typically driven into the ground.

By the end of the 3 year lifespan we were left with an extremely messy sandbox that didn't make a huge amount of sense.

With all the negatives people have with destiny 2, balance is in a pretty good place with the exception of MIDA (and maybe slightly Uriel, although I think thats more 'user friendly' than actually OP) so let's not overdo anything please (Crotas end auto rifle changes, amirite?)

Set your expectations correctly

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 05:39 AM PST

It has been three months since D2 launched. Osiris was surely being worked on long before then. And while the Live Team will probably implement some of their laundry list of fixes, they cannot do all them. So please, as we prepare for the launch of CoO, don't expect this to save your D2 experience. It's not going to fix the end game, it won't fix TTK, it won't change the token system, and you can bet money Prestige Mode won't increase your Light Level. Fundamental systems that are fundamental flaws don't get fixed in three months. So be patient, enjoy the content, give FAIR criticisms, and hope for some more fixes in Season 3 and beyond.

Small complaint - Why do we still see the number 20 next to everyone's name?

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 11:24 PM PST

Look, it's minor. I get it. There's bigger fish to fry, but we've been asking for this since 2014.

Can we PLEASE have the light level displayed next to peoples names once they hit level cap, instead of the level they are.

The number 20 (or whatever the max level is at the time) means literally nothing unless they are UNDER 20.

Come on Bungie.

This is Destiny 2 and we still see that completely useless giant blue box with the number 20 next to everyone's names.

Change the colour to indicate it's showing Power level instead, or don't, I really don't care. Just show the power level... PLEASE.

D2's core design philosophy is to never risk anyone feeling bad. The result is a game without incentive to keep playing.

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 11:36 AM PST

It seems the core philosophy of Destiny 2 is to avoid risking anyone's feelings being upset.

Chat

For nearly every multiplayer game, the community is what keeps people coming back for more months (and years) later. Instead, Destiny 2 is a shared single player game.

  • Public/Region Chat

There is no general chat in this game in order to avoid hurt feelings. As a result, there is very little sense of community, and a feeling of complete isolation.

  • Opt-in Fireteam/Group Chat

Even in fireteam/group comms, chat is disabled by default and has to be opt-in, in order to avoid anyone feeling upset.

Itemization

Since loot is so homogenous, there is no reason to strive for a new piece of gear. Once you have a basic Restoration set, you are done with searching for different gear aside from infusions.

  • General

Random rolls were removed entirely. While in general, this was a good change, combining it with the streamlining of all stats results in multiple armor sets that are identical to one another.

  • Raid Loot

Relating to above, the raid armor is identical to many sets you can get elsewhere, just in case someone is upset that they can't dedicate the time to the raid. Aside from weapons, there isn't an incentive to spend the time perfecting the raid.

  • Prestige Raid Loot

The loot table in the Prestige raid is identical to the Normal raid loot table, with a different shader applied to the armor. There is just no incentive to strive to accomplish this feat. It seems this is in place only to avoid upsetting those who can't dedicate the time.

Crucible

There isn't an incentive to keep playing in Crucible. Nothing to strive for, and you aren't even rewarded when you do well.

  • Rewards

Win or lose, you receive the same rewards. There isn't an incentive to try to win your matches, or else people would feel bad for losing.

  • Ranks

There isn't a ranking system in competitive, or people would be upset when they lose.

I am not saying this is a casual vs hardcore issue. I am not arguing for more hardcore content to be added, nor am I arguing for raid gear to be objectively better than other gear, just for gear to be unique.

For example, I play Overwatch for a few hours a week, but even in a casual game like that there are incentives to win and to play competitive mode. I'm not even hardcore in this game, I play a few hours a week.

I know the argument will be that Destiny 2 is a shooter, not an RPG, and that's fine too - but every shooter out there has basic ranking systems. I really love the overall design and gunplay in Destiny 2, but I just want incentives to keep playing.

Bungie, in view of your deaf / mute players, please bring in emotes simply saying "left", "right", "up", "down", "top", "middle" and "bottom"

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 06:43 AM PST

When paired with the upcoming (hopefully) emote wheel, this would go such a long way with these players. Also, they (the emotes) would be easy to adapt to pretty much any situation.

Also applicable to situations when players can't talk or don't have mics!

[Bungie Suggestion] Having Clan Banners and not displaying them before a Crucible Match seems like a missed opportunity.

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 10:43 AM PST

I remember in D1 before a PvP match, one guardian triumphantly slamming a banner into the ground. Even though the banner was mostly the same every time, I still liked the idea that the team of randoms and/or friends was united behind something.

Now, in D2, we actually have clan banners as an item slot with banners that we can design to some extent and they are totally missing from the game. Seeing as the primary weapon we are using and the armor and sharers all show up on the pre-match screen, it seems like having a clan banner appear to slam into the ground and represent our clan would be a reasonable thing to get.

If there are multiple clans, maybe have everyone hoist and slam their own banner. Or maybe just have your banner appear on your screen. Either way, I want to see my flag waiving triumphantly in the wind before falling to my death and missing my super again.

Ever wonder what it's like playing Destiny 2 without a graphic card? Here's my experience so far

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 06:38 AM PST

Here's a little short story for you guys. Links to Gyfy are below if you want to skip the reading.

On Destiny 2 launch day, my ASUS GTX 1080 died about 4 hours into the game. So that's about the last time I experience any pretty looking graphics, in any game really. It's been 3 weeks since and ASUS still have return my RMA card even though they promised it'd get it back a week ago when I first contacted them.

Anyway, I soldier on because I don't want to lag behind on progress with my friends and everyone else in the game. I decide to play the game with on-board Intel graphic. I had to get all the setting to the lowest possible, drop resolution to 720p and render scale to 45% to get it running smoothly at 20-30ish fps in heavy fire fight /w multiple players. It still stutters and lags, a lot. I finally got all 3 of my characters up to 300 light and have done everything except Trials, since I don't want to be a liability for the team.

To get the full effect, you are gonna want to fullscreen the gyfys. This is what the tower looks like for me. It can be oddly beautiful, like pixel art sometimes. Tower

And here's my ship/loading screen. Ship

Some sparrow footage. 90s racing arcade games? Sparrow

One of my bigger problems, very hard to distinguish hostile sometimes. Turning the corner, seems clear, ADS-- NOPE NOT CLEAR! This gets worse in dark places, especially in pvp. Targets

Here's some combat. Combat

A bit more combat. Combat 2

I do hold my own in most content tho, even. pvp But if it gets to close quarters I will lose most of time time. Because with this graphic, tracking targets is very, very hard up close.

Hopefully ASUS will send the card to me soon so I can stop digitally torture myself with this graphic. Thanks for reading.

[Spoiler] After seeing the new cinematic, I'm even more pissed off our Guardians don't speak.

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 05:02 PM PST

Right, gotta vent, get this off my chest as it's been festering since launch.

Our Guardians don't speak. Okay, fine, I understand you want us to be our own characters, blah blah immersion whatever. But it is a complete 180 from base Destiny 1. While not with the best writing, Dinklebot and our Guardians had bits of small talk and banter (albeit rarely), and it added to the feeling that they were a team, working together.

That feeling is further emphasized with the new cinematic with Osiris and Sagira.

(Osiris struggling to use his 3 cube thing and swears)
"Need help? ...again?" - Sagira
(He successfully does the thing)
"I've got it, thank you." - Osiris

SEE, THAT RIGHT THERE, IS WHAT I WAS HOPING FOR AS I WAS RIDING THE DESTINY 2 HYPE TRAIN. And that's just one example! Banter between Guardian and Ghost; it makes their companionship more genuine and like they're actually connected.

Now Nolanbot is a goddamn mouthpiece and our Guardians are fucking mute.

Rant over. Gotta clean the salt I spilled.

Thank you for the Ultrawide support, Bungie. IT's amazing.

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 01:09 AM PST

Destiny 2 has damn near flawless Ultrawide Monitor support.

Proper Additional HFoV, no menu problems, no issues with rendering scale, no restrictions and ontop of all that, We got a nifty nice little UI placement tool that lets you adjust the UI to you comfort. You can even play on triple screen Eyefinity.

It's amazing.

After the bullshit that Overwatch pulled by effectively banning 21:9 monitors from the game, Paladins doing the same, and then PUBG restricting 21:9, and now Fortnite removing the fix that made UW work properly...

This is so nice to have a developer that actually cares about the advancement of PC hardware and technology.

I would have never expected such good PC consumer oriented from Bungie seeing as how their primary market has always been Console users.

But they did what other companies would not. They listened where others ignorantly put their foot down despite all the evidence given to them to consider.

It's not often you see a company go against the grain in a hot button issue, and especially one so closely related to Blizzard. When D2 was announced to have 21:9 support, I was cautious and expecting yet another game to put out excuse after excuse, but I was happy to be proven wrong.

Instead Bungie sided with Dota, LoL, CSGO, Quake, and many other Games on their open support for Ultrawide displays. Instead of worrying about the invisible bogeyman, they did the right thing, and listened to the end user who it would affect the most.

I bought Destiny 2 basically on that principle alone.

Thank you for your understanding, and support us Bungie. I'm happy to have spent my money on this game.

We need another new Type of PVE Activity

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 03:42 AM PST

Speaking from personal experience i'm feeling that the current setup of Strikes/nightfall and raid as the only "replayable" PVE activities is getting a bit stale .

while i feel optimistic about raid lairs and not all the streams have happened yet, i think this expansion would of been a great way to add a new PVE activity related to the infinite Forrest that is akin to something like COD Zombies, whereby its got difficulty scaling with each level you achieve and the levels are almost infinite until the AI gets too tough to complete essentially an elaborate Tetris.

there is no "completing" it per see but you get rewards for killign enemies, can get powerups (infinite super for 1 minute or infinite power ammo for a round) but like zombies there are puzzles to complete along the way to access more things like a mini boss could spawn, each week could have different enemies etc etc

I only bring up the example of COD zombies because its a very repayable activity (cant say how many hours i spent in Kino der toten) and given activision are involved with D2 i don't think this idea is too rediculous in scope.

I am not advocating a return of Prison of elders i think we can all agree it was a very sub par "hoard mode" activity.

Edit 1 : I forgot to add a scoring element , medals and achievements also to further hook the player in the activity , you get 5 "x medal" you get a scorch cannon or big axe or big massive final fantasy buster sword!

Catering to the 1% makes everyone happy

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 05:44 PM PST

Something I observed in CoD WWII, is how well it does RNG and loot.

There's always something there for me to chase, there's plenty of loot and a lot of it is out of reach for me as I'm much more of a casual in CoD than in Destiny.

I like CoD because I don't care about my K/D because there is no LFG site where people will look up stats before letting me play with them, I can just play and expect to win any game mode eventually with any randoms in the lobby.

But it has a lot for the 1%, it caters to them. There are collections and stuff I'll never unlock in that game. And as a casual there, I'm fine with that, I know I'll never put in the time, and therefore won't ever unlock everything... but I'm cool with that. I can still play every game mode and have fun playing the game.

That's how Destiny should be. Catering to the 1% makes everyone happy. Catering to the casuals pisses off the 1%, and without the 1% there's no community. The 1% are the only ones who are there non-stop, day after day posting and streaming and playing and doing the sherpaing. Good luck finding a guide on doing something in-game without the 1%, or finding someone to help you beat the prestige raid for the first time, or someone you can watch on twitch playing Trials to improve your gameplay.

Bungie often says what they love the most about Destiny is the community, and the only way the community thrives is a happy and healthy 1%. So cater to them, do what they want, give them new raids with bosses and a huge RNG loot table... and the casuals who play a lot less, they'll never get everything, and that's okay. If you want to play three raids a week and break down a character so you can have a 4th chance at RNG that week, then great, that's when the game is at it's best is when some people are willing to go to those lengths. And if instead of that you just want to play maybe one raid a month, then that's fine too, you can do that in the system that caters to the 1%, you just won't get all the loot, and that's fine, you still have access to play all the content, you just won't have a full set of raid gear with special raid-specific perks, but no big deal, you didn't put in the time to get it.

When you cater to the 1% everyone wins. But when you cater to the casual the 1% loses, and that hurts the community and the game in a big way.

23 Questions I wish I could ask Destiny 2's Devs

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 10:01 AM PST

I'm not a reporter (not even close) and I'm not a VG expert or anything. Just a guy who plays VGs and has played Destiny a lot in the last 3-something years, both 1 and 2. But, following this barrage of mixed feedback to Destiny 2's release and now to Curse of Osiris' DLC, there are things I wish I could ask Luke Smith (Director of Destiny 2), Gavin Irby, Jacob Benton and Larks Bakken (Designers for the game) and, overall, everyone in the development team with some sort of "decision" power, some questions about Destiny 2.

Since the game launched, I haven't seen many real interviews of Devs from Bungie except in promotion news for the original release, the Pc release and now, Curse of Osiris. These have been interviews mainly focused on the release of the new content/platform/original game and not really on the game itself. And there are tons of questions repeated over and over again in the various forums, social media, etc that talk about the game.

I know that, they are not supposed to answer questions from fans (though they did so here and there on twitter and other mediums in the past) and that there are PR people to control what is said and how. But I wish I could sit in a bar, with a beer in front of me and simply ask:

  • So, Destiny 2 feels very different from Destiny 1 when you play. The game seems more...slowed down in general. Movement speed particularly, became much slower. Why was this design choice taken? Destiny 1 was praised for its movement. Why the need for change?

  • Not only does your character move slower but he/she is also much weaker. Noticeably, all abilities take much longer times to recharge. Drastically so. Did you take this direction to balance PVP more than anything?

  • The power fantasy was toned down a lot by that but also by how the new weapon layout works and by the weapons themselves, which, invaribly, seem weaker and less...diverse. Why this direction and not keep the same kind of "system" and "feel" we had at the end of Destiny 1?

  • Exotics have been noted to be much less impactful in the player experience and power fantasy. Did you want to avoid, at all costs, issues like Thorn or The Last Word in PVP or did you feel weapons like Sleeper Simulant, Gjallahorn and Black Spindle negatively impacted the PVE experience?

  • Why did you decide to remove Bladedancer, Sunsinger and Defender? And why not give an explanation ingame, in the story, for the reason they were removed? I mean, Osiris was a Sunsinger and we now, suddenly, seem him as a Dawnblade. Lore wise, it strikes me as a weird and incomplete move. Sunsingers are woven deeply into the lore of the Warlocks. As are Defenders into the Titan's and Bladedancers into the Hunter's. Why remove them instead of changing them? And having removed them, why not give the player an explanation as to why these subclasses and abilities are all new and different? The "why" in Destiny 2 seems as weak as it was in the first game...

  • The change in the game economy was gigantic. Almost nothing from Destiny 1's economy remains in terms of structure except of Glimmer and Legendary Shards (previously marks). Most noticeably, we cannot buy anything from vendors now. This whole Token system... why go in this direction? In the RNG loot boxy direction? Why not a simple economy of earning a currency to buy items? Or a mixed one like we had in Destiny 1 where you could gain RNG packages from levelling vendors but also buy things directly? What was the goal for this change?

  • The game as a whole seems simpler and more...flat. Progression feels often more horizontal than vertical. Was this your intention to allow a more friendly experience to the casual player?

  • The story is much more straightfoward and direct. One can say its arguably much better than Destiny 1's story. Are you happy with this new direction you took in terms of the story telling? Do you feel there is room for improvement? If so, where?

  • Why is the vault space still and issue and still very small? What was the reason behind that? Technical? Game design?

  • One of the main complaints about Destiny 1 was the grimmoire not being accessible ingame. For Destiny 2, everyone was expecting the same system of lore delivery but with an ingame grimmoire that you could complete and work towards and look at to understand more about the game's universe. Yet, not only is it not in the game, its not also in the site anymore. We did get more narration and more voice lines and cinematics and the main story is more easily delivered to the player but there are also hidden items to scan and side missions (adventures and lost sectors) that give us lore but isn't registered anywhere we can access. Why not make an ingame grimmoire system or a sort of Character Diary or something that would keep track of all this story we find out in the wild and all our stats? What was the reason behind that decision and would you change it if you could?

  • Can we expect a signifcant shift in the game's sandbox somewhere along the future or do you feel the game is, currently, more or less in the state you had intended? What I mean is, should we expect only small tweaks or should we expect a massive change?

  • 4v4 PVP was something asked by the main PVP community at the end of Destiny 1. But many are wishing we had 6v6 modes, rumble and some 3v3 modes. Will we see those return?

  • At the end of Destiny 1 we had so much to do and so many interesting pieces of gear. Ornaments for raid gear. Strike specific gear. Tons of exotics. Tons of activities. Do you feel that part of the dissatisfaction we see online is due to comparing a finished game to one thats only beginning? That people expected Destiny 2 to launch with 30 exotic weapons, 20 exotic pieces of armor for each class and god knows how many legendaries because thats how the previous game was when they left? That they wanted a sort of...continuity and not a "restart"?

  • Why didn't you give Destiny 1 veterans that moved to PC the same experience you gave those that stayed in their console of origin? The emblems, the small unique dialogues, etc

  • If you could revert and change something that is currently in Destiny 2 to the way it was at the end of Destiny 1, what would it be if anything?

  • Will we ever return to the Moon, Venus, Mars and the Cosmodrone? To the original patrol spaces? I don't mean if we will replay the old missions, strikes and raids because that wouldn't make sense but, will we return to keep watch over these old patrol spaces? Cabal must be overrunning Mars by now ahaha. And there's certainly still many Wizards in the Moon. Or are you going to focus on new destinations exclusively?

  • Why not keep the old PVP maps together with the new ones? Surely more maps would always be in the player's wishes.

  • Do you feel Destiny 2 is in its final form and, from here onwards, the only thing to do is add more content and not to reinvent it again and again like you did with Destiny 1?

  • Im sure you saw the Destiny Community Survey done here on Reddit a few weeks back. The results... Did you expect them? Most players seemed to think the best state of the game was The Taken King and most (by a long shot) said they preferred Destiny 1 over Destiny 2. Do you think its just nostalgia talking or do you think Destiny 2 failed in some things along the way?

  • If you had to point 3 big flaws in Destiny 2, which would you pick?

  • How do you feel about the PC version? It seems successfull. I for one change from PS4 to PC and so far I don't regret it.

  • Some people think you listened to much to the PVP side of the community and ended up "nerfing" the PVE experience as a result. And this comes linked to your design Philosophy of not separating PVP and PVE in terms of balance. Some feel this is deterimental to both experiences but more to PVE because the biggest changes seemed to have been done with PVP balance in mind. Do you agree this is the case? Why not have some sort of distinction (like we had with Inverse Shadow perk before) in mods, perks, etc that would balance PVP without "nerfing" PVE?

  • And this is the final question. More of a...conceptual one. Do you believe you can have a rewarding PVE Loot game, with powerful and impactfull loot to pursue, that's also a balanced PVP competitive game? Can we have another "Thorn" and not make PVP suffer? Or balance swords without affecting PVE?

And you? If you could, what would you ask the Devs of Destiny 2?

EDIT: My intention was not to make aggressive questions. I'm sorry if they sound like that. English is not my native language and portuguese is a bit direct so they might seem like that due to my lack of english skills. Sorry :/ I anyone wants to help me make them less aggressive, please do.

Nessus as a Trojan Horse

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 10:20 AM PST

With the announcement of the new Raid Lair, I was thinking of a possible Lore Reason to go back to the leviathan with a Vex focused DLC.

What if the Vex, with their time travel and predictions, terraformed Nessus as a way to get to gain control of the Leviathan. I'm sure they would find a creature that can eat planets useful, possibly terraform other planets faster.

So They created Nessus, terraforming it into something that would be useful for the Leviathan to consume. The Vex that make it inside would be able to take control from inside the Ship rather than a full space assault. So now, Calus is sending us into the belly to deal with this "infection".

Thoughts?

Lawyer guardian here,

I'm extremely upset about the new raid lair. This is unacceptable, it's just a re-skin! How dare they introduce content using the same... similar... format... shit... that's what I do.

On second thought, disregard the above. I'm very excited about the new raid lair. I'm also very excited to bring you some more legal news so you are on top of the latest developments in the Tower:

Bungie's self-aware Destiny lore (x-post from r/DestinyLore)

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 07:37 PM PST

The coolest lore in Destiny is that which is actually pulled from actually player activity. It shows Bungie's aware of the playerbase's behavior. Here are the examples thus far from D1 and D2. If there's any more you know of, please share.

Cabal Reports On Mars: In D1 Grimoire, some of the earliest reports of Guardians by the Cabal on Mars back to the Empire (now comfirmed to have been Ghaul) indicated just how little they knew about us in the beginning, referring to our Ghosts as {Dead Person}. But what's the funny part here is that they also documented Guardians looting dead Cabal, dancing randomly and doing tricks on their sparrows off of sand dunes and rocks. Sounds about right. SOURCE: Ghost Fragment: Cabal 4

Blind Legion I Cohort/Century 3/Maniple 3 5 Squad [HEAVY INF] TASK: - defend Psion intelligence ops 071x146 OUTCOME: - overwhelmed by Guardian fireteam/Vex pressure. few survivors. survivors reported Guardians foraging for equipment, dancing, and performing acrobatics with light vehicles.

(Also, take note in this card that it's also referencing how they've learned that the Hive have a way of combating Guardians much more effective than they did. That information directly lead to the Skyburners invading Oryx's Dreadnaught, which in turn ultimately leads to the Red Legion developing the tactics that brought the City to the brink.)

Owl Sector Observations: During the ARG that preceded the Rise Of Iron DLC in D1, there was a sight that Bungie put up that included extra lore regarding SIVA, it's origins and the effects it was having on Guardians by a secret research group called Owl Sector. One particular piece of lore actually has someone claiming the Light has affected Guardians behavior, theorizing that as to why we are so...random, in the Tower.

SOURCE: Taken from the Owl Sector website

Owl Sector Internal, OS-I6 3

RAM: Berriole found a trove of laboratory notes in a locked section of the Dust Palace. Some dead scientist named Shirazi. Some forgotten experiment under the auspices of Willa Bray.

QUI: She's good as a bloodhound for secrets.

SHU: You could use a bit more sheepdog, yourself.

RAM: Our Guardians will honor the ban on City travel. This has been relayed on all channels as far as Saturn.

QUI: They might have honored the quarantine.

SHU: They're Guardians, Quist. Means the Light has cooked their brains. Haven't you seen them dancing in the Plaza, for no reason, with no music at all? We'll take what we can get.

MIDA is OP, but not OP: This lore comes from the tab of the MIDA Multi-Tool, directly referencing how it's effectiveness is a point of contention in the universe of Destiny as much as it is among us actual players. It also references in story context the dominance and subsequent nerfing of the Suros Regime.

SOURCE: MIDA Lore Tab

Zavala — A waste of time, as always. I won't confiscate the Red Death engrams, I won't roll back the SUROS Crucible firmware to its "original" (preposterously inflated) state. And I won't conduct any more "forensic inquiries" like this!

My Redjacks unlocked your MIDA weapon's logs; simple enough once we used the rifle's own electronic warfare tools. The rifle was designed by primitive AI and manufactured for use by a "revolutionary government" named MIDA. Mars Is Damnably Arid, perhaps.

Guerilla war suits these versatile weapons. But Rahool insists his records never hinted at a rebel group named MIDA. According to the rifle's cached messages, MIDA's brief reign killed a full ten percent of the Martian people.

I gave Lakshmi the weapon for her take. She insinuates that it came from another timeline, perhaps through Golden Age experiments. That means it's outside your jurisdiction to ban. —Shaxx

(NOTE: The lore in MIDA is a reference to Marathon, where in some terminals you could read about a group called MIDA that were terrorists(revolutionaries) and the AI its referencing is probably one of the AIs from Marathon. So we have a gun from another universe (Marathon's universe). Thanks /u/bjornstellar

D.A.R.C.I. Knows...: This one might have slipped past you as you dismantled your 5th drop of this particular sniper rifle. It's lore practically breaks the 4th wall in how it references the sometimes questionable tactics of Guardians in the field and the Crucible. It also subtly brings about an ideal of certain weapons having their own intelliegence/personality, something that originally had just been known to have existed in the D1 Exotic Machine Gun, Super Good Advice (to which even though it's lore suggested it had an AI that could talk to it's handler, it never actually does so in game).

SOURCE: D.A.R.C.I. Lore Tab

It is a fact generally understood that a Guardian must be searching for an exquisite weapon. What is perhaps less acknowledged is that we weapons also search, by what little means available to us, for an active and appreciative wielder. The community of intelligent armaments stays in contact through the exchange of telemetry, and we do gossip at some length about the habits of our wielders. Do you leave Crucible matches when your team is losing? Do you join strike missions and then let your comrades do the work? Guardian, we know. We know so very well.

All I wish for is a partnership with a Guardian who appreciates the passacaglia of combat, a Guardian who will stay up late gaming out tactical scenarios, a Guardian who I hope may very well be you.

The Sleeping Giant: In the final area of the mission Cayde's Stash from The Taken King is a hidden scannable of a stasis pod which apparently has a "Guardian" in it who's already seen his fair share of battles. This is an indirect homage to the hero of Bungie's previous series, Halo's Master Chief.

SOURCE: Destiny: The Taken King gameplay

(NOTE: This is the second reference Bungie's made to Master Chief in Destiny, the first being an easter egg which was found in the Cerberus Vae III strike of D1, where the back of a specific tower actually resembled his famous Spartan helmet.)

Ahamkara & Reality: The new Skull of Dire Ahamkara lore tab approaches the fourth wall by questioning the very reality of your activities in the world. Is it real...or just are we the only thing real? (Thanks /u/silidon)

SOURCE: Skull Of Dire Ahamkara lore tab

"O BEARER MINE." What kind of talking skull would address its host that way? A stiff, stuck-up old fossil, not me. Ahamkara: the illusion that one's ego depends on an object, or an idea, or a body. Some people say you should have no ahamkara. Some people say you need to have the right ahamkara. All I know is that YOU are not an illusion. Understand? This world around you, the people you meet—they're a little thin, right? Cardboard and drywall. Cheap theater. Come on, try it out! Say: "I am more real than this." Feels good, doesn't it? "I am the only real person here." Isn't it like their insults and their bullets just went a little... soft? I came to find you, only you, because you're special. You're from somewhere real. And together we can burn our way back there. Can't we, o player mine?

More Self-Aware tidbits: Not 4th wall breaking, but close.

Legion-Bane Titan Helmet

The Psions who spied on Crucible training at Thuria were bemused by all the complaining.

Osiris Grimoire Card

I watched as you grew tired of strike missions and the grueling, unproductive sessions with the Cryptarchs.

(This specific excerpt seems to me to be alluding to the loot grind, other excerpts mention chasing after VoG, questioning the Speaker/Traveler, discussing lore in general, etc). Thanks /u/adrianmalacoda
