Let us fight for the "Best Farm Animals" award!

Last year, Valve betrayed us. A lot of us nominated CSGO for the "Best Use Of Farm Animals" award, because of the great integration of chickens in the game. Chickens are a very important part of the CSGO community, I can't imagine a good fps without chickens anymore. But when we finally had to vote for one game, we couldn't even choose CSGO. So Goat Simulator won. A good game, but goats aren't nearly important to this one, as chickens to CSGO. We won the shitty "5 More Minutes" award (sorry /r/civ), the award we never wanted.
So this year, we have the chance to strike back, the Steam Awards are back. The "Farm Animals" category is gone, but like last year, there is the "Write-In" award, where you can create an own category. So we have a little chance to bring "Farm Animals" back and maybe this time we will win.
So I want You, fellow chicken friends, to nominate CSGO for the "Write-In" award in the category "Best Use Of Farm Animals". It's the award we deserve. We have to fight for it.

I have started playing Wingman more frequently recently and I can't say enough good about what this mode is doing for me. Within a short time, I have improved my game significantly (>700h player), which I wasn't really able to achieve from playing MM only before.

Here are some of the things I have noticed have impacted me:

  • First of all, I feel like I get matched up with better players more frequently than during MM and I then get to play them more intensely.

  • I get faced with crucial situations more frequently, which is great for learning to handle them and I also don't get so hung up on failure, since it's not as intense as clutching during MM. It's just another round of Wingman, no big deal.

  • During wingman, if I want to win, I can't afford to play passively and need to step out of my comfort zone. This is crucial for me.

  • I need to also create plays every round, which takes confidence. Succeeding at that, or improving, definitely creates confidence.

  • It's a higher pace and I'm learning to bring my A game every match, to always be focused.

  • I learned to trust in my aim much more and turn off doubts in my mind.

  • Utility usage is crucial every round and I can't get away with just smoking an area at the start of the round and throwing a counter flash. Every piece of utility counts.

  • I realize that my strength lies more in game sense and quick thinking (compared to the rest of my skill-set), which I wasn't using enough when playing 5v5. Wingman made this more recognizable for myself.

  • I get to see various executions from other players and what they do to counter ours. I'm learning a lot every match.

  • And since I play with my BFF, I finally don't get back-stabbed because my teammate decided to leave site for no reason. Also, I see now how much my game suffers if coms are terrible.

  • Last but not least, I learned to take losses more in stride, also contributed by the fact that I have a better idea of who I am as a player now, thanks to Wingman.

All-in-all, I just wish Wingman was a thing a year ago and I could have taken this path to learning the game. I tried retake servers, but the skill-levels were so random, little usable communication, some toxicity... I didn't get so much out of it. Here, I feel like I am learning all the time. Thank you Valve for keeping Wingman around, it has made the game enjoyable for me again. And I feel like I'm making more progress in 10 games of Wingman than I did in 20 matches of MM. Maybe not everybody's path to learning the game, but it sure has worked for me. Thank you!

Belgium says loot boxes are gambling, wants them banned in Europe

Last week, Belgium's Gaming Commission announced that it had launched an investigation into whether the loot boxes available for purchase in games like Overwatch and Star Wars Battlefront 2 constitute a form of gambling. Today, VTM News reported that the ruling is in, and the answer is yes. (fake news)

The Google translation is a little sloppy, as usual, but the message is clear enough. "The mixing of money and addiction is gambling," the Gaming Commission declared. Belgium's Minister of Justice Koen Geens also weighed in, saying, "Mixing gambling and gaming, especially at a young age, is dangerous for the mental health of the child."

Geens, according to the report, wants to ban in-game purchases outright (correction: if you don't know exactly what you're purchasing), and not just in Belgium: He said the process will take time, "because we have to go to Europe. We will certainly try to ban it."

And now, things will start to get interesting. I've reached out to the Gaming Commission for more information, and will update if I receive a reply.

Interesting that csgo was not named.

Edit: They have not banned lootboxes, nor have they classified lootboxes as gambling. A final decision has not been reached yet.
