Scythia is a surprisingly good choice for an early religious victory.

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 05:10 PM PST

Decided to do something a little different and go all-in on trying for a religious victory with Scythia. Built several kurgans, took religious beliefs that were all related to increasing my amount of faith or the number of spreads by religious units, and built holy sites fairly early on in each of the cities I founded.

In my capital, after constructing the holy site, I immediately built an encampment with stables and started pumping out horsemen and Saka horse archers. There's always that one other civ that makes a large early-game religious push, and in this case it was England. So I used all those horse units to conquer its capital first, thus cutting off its main supply of religious units. That gave me time to slowly conquer the rest of its cities, thus eliminating the main obstacle to a religious victory. I then sold off one of their worthless cities to Sumeria for a very nice amount of GPT, solving the issue of negative gold flow from focusing on religion and warfare so early.

After that, all I had to do was pump out missionaries from various holy sites and spread them throughout the world, since no other civ was aggressively building missionaries this early. I eventually reached over 150 faith per turn and won a religious victory before I had hit turn 175.

TL;DR- Scythia's combination of early game faith bonuses from kurgans and early game warfare bonuses from it's ability to pump out horse units that get extra healing lets you both quickly build up a strong religion and eliminate your main religious competitors, thus letting you get a religious victory fairly quickly.

Do any of you have good tips for a beginner play Civ VI?

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 02:59 PM PST

I bought this game back when it came out because I really liked the idea of it, and I was looking for a game I could dump a couple hundred hours into. I played it for about 30 hours and it didn't seem like I was getting and better at it. The game is so confusing to me, and other civilizations are always way ahead of me in everything. I eventually just got overwhelmed and stopped playing. I'm wanting to give it another try though and hopefully be able to enjoy the game because it seems great. Can any of you give me some tips that you used when you started playing the game/series?

Decrease turns in Civ 6

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 08:39 AM PST

Hey guys I'm very new to playing any Civ game and I'm a little confused on why I can build something in like 5 turns in one city but it takes like 20 turns in my other city. Also what can I do to decrease the turns.

Another question that I have is about apostles. Are they important and why so? My last question is, do you guys have any great strategy sites or videos that I can read or watch for beginners like me? Thanks!

[1stPost] CIV VI Surface Book 2 Crashing. Need help.

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 05:44 PM PST

Just got a Surface Book 2 (15in, 512gb if it matters) and Civ VI keeps crashing on me.

I've already run into problems where it'll run the native intel graphics from the "tablet" if I don't reconnect, go to graphics options, choose the Nvidia 1060, and then restart. But when I've got the 1060 running while connected to the base the game will crash after 5-7 turns.

Settings are pretty much on medium and there's no lag or any stuttering before it's just gone with a crash report. Anyone have problems like this? (Even on a different system/card/configutation)

Question on Finding Resources

In Civ5 is there a way to scan the map for resources by typing in a search somewhere? Or do you have to manually scan the map?

[Civ5] Arabia vs Zulu

Posted: 16 Nov 2017 12:03 PM PST

I recently started a new game on emperor difficulty (normal map size. 7 players and city states, epic speed). Due to starting locations/zulu settling in my direction an early war seems inevitable... And those freaking zulus wipe the floor with me, I tried 3 times and they always attacked around turn 150 with 3-4 Impis,2-3 swordmen, 1-2 warriors and 2-3 composite archers + a catapult. How can I survive that?

I read up on starting build order and so on here, but that doesn't work for me. Building a scout first gets me one additional ruin, thats not worth it imho (I seem to be in a densly populated part of the map). Stealing a worker from a city state didn't work out, the closest city state builds a worker around turn 40, that's way too late imho. I can't go further away due to barbarians everywhere. I tried selling some luxuries for 240 gold, but that's rather difficult because usually only austria want's to be friends with me, and they are a little bit short on cash most of the time (and I struggle to keep happiness up sometimes, even though i have 2 luxuries quite early).

My best start so far was approximately: Worker->granary->monument->great library (got a second worker from tradition tree quite early, second city built at turn 84). I can't remember when I started chopping woods, probably too late, thats the only way to improve that comes to my mind. Do you guys have other ideas?
