In honour of the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution, I'm proud to present the Soviet Union as a mod for Civ 6, led by the revolutionary Bolshevik himself: Vladimir Lenin!

I just killed 27 barbarian units in 50 and the onslaught continues.

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 04:45 PM PST

I can literally only see one barb encampment anywhere near me. I can't force my way through the constantly spawning barbarian swordsmen to get to it. My entire last hour and a half of gameplay was taken up by spawning crappy archers and beating them back. They are spawning swordsmen, archers and catapults.

There is no iron or horses nearby so I have had to painfully tech up to try and get a unit that is capable of matching this onslaught. My archers are mostly avoiding death, but it takes 4 hits to kill a swordsman. Meanwhile, all the other civs are denouncing me.

I am new to Civ VI, is this normal?

Indonesia on TSL South Asia is a blast to play!

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 09:45 AM PST

Just finished a game on King with only CQUI and AI+ mods. Game felt amazingly balanced. The civs near or on the mainland had some early wars while Indonesia had time to island hop and build. By the time I was pressed against the dominant mainlander, both sides were fairly balanced. They had a large land based army. I had a large faith-purchased navy. Neither could really make a move on each other without incurring high costs. So while the threat of war was always there, it never broke out. China went down the Science path while I went down culture. Profitable trade routes made up for subpar production. Everything seemed very balanced and was one of the more satisfying and meaty civ playthroughs in a while. I ended up losing but that was due to some stupid late game decisions.

How did this happen?

I'm about to play my first Civ game (Civ VI), any recommendations?

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 07:21 PM PST

So to be very clear, as of writing this I haven't even got to an intro screen. I've never played a civ game and I really only know a few things A) It's a turn based tile-space game, B) Gandhi is Nuke Crazy due to some sort of overflow in the original game, and C) Civ6 is designed with globalism in mind. I've gathered from reading I pick a country and make a nation by gather hexagon tiles. I really don't know much else.

How critical are the tutorials / How steep is the learning curve? Can make my own people or do I have to pick some pre made set? Is this like AoE? How do tech trees work? Can I win via diplomacy or do I have to kill everyone? Am I going to get my ass handed to me if I jump straight in? Is there a difficulty setting?

Civs like Spain in Civ 5?

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 05:31 PM PST

I am enjoying Civ VI but the lack of a Civ that operated like Spain in V is disheartening. Are there any modded civs that get bonus interactions with natural wonders? I'd like to see an official one somewhere down the line as I love settling next to wonders. I'd even make the agenda for the civ to be overly aggressive towards other civs who have cities that own wonder tiles and prioritize them in war.

Something missing...

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 03:41 PM PST

Maybe it's just me but I feel in civ V and VI you don't have that same feeling that the entire planet will be colonized and boarders will meet one another. Seems like every time I play there's too much unused space. Is there a mod or something that would help to alleviate this? Never felt like a problem in civ 4.

Strategy question: is it ever a good idea to rush military production and technologies early on? Even when I plan on going for a domination victory I find it's better not to be aggressive with my military but instead focus on getting more science and wonders as fast as possible.

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 03:08 PM PST

I've only played Civ 5, never played Civ 6. Even when I plan on doing a military domination victory I find it's better to out-science my opponents in the early game because that allows me to build superior military units in the mid and late game. To me it seems foolish to rush military production and technologies early on because paltry warriors and swordsmen aren't going to be able to capture cities any way, and while you're wasting time doing that everyone else will be focusing on science, wonders, religion, culture, etc, which will put them ina much better position later on.

Is this how everyone else plays? Or am I missing something? Also I've only played Civ 5. Is this what other Civ 5 players do? What about in Civ 6?

Thanks!

Do cities use the tile yields they are built on?

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 02:38 PM PST

I've been playing civ V and VI for a couple years (just played 2 before that), and it just occurred to me that I don't know the answer to this question. I've been playing with the assumption that the tile yields are replaced by city yields, so I've been placing cities to make sure they aren't on top of any good tiles, resources especially. Is a city built on stone more productive than one on desert, all other tiles remaining constant? I think I understand fresh water access and the new settler overlay is quite helpful, but I'm not sure how to tell without recording measurements over several games so I thought I'd ask here first. Also, any defensive bonus for a city on a hill?

Civ 6 installer crashes after license agreement.

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 02:23 PM PST

I'm on a reasonably new Windows 10 laptop. When I insert the disc (using a usb disc drive as my laptop doesn't actually have one), nothing happens. If I navigate to the drive and run Setup.exe, it comes up with the options screen (continue installation, view Windows 8 support, etc). If I click Install, then the license agreement appears, and then after I agree to that then the installer closes and no further signs of life are detected from it.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Thanks.
