Destiny 2 UI/HUD/Menu Changes Compendium

A collection of visual changes in the Destiny 2 Beta with a little spinfoil seasoning

This is a comprehensive list highlighting the changes I noticed, and some I really appreciated, in the D2 beta. I unfortunately did not get a chance to visit The Farm, so any keen observations from that are greatly appreciated.

TL;WR: Video version (11mins)

HUD - General:

  • Improved Mission Header and Objective Information
    • Activity header information is resized and mission objective tracker has been redesigned.
    • I'm interested to see if tracked bounties/quests will show up over here as well, or if that will still be within the ghost menu.
    • Image Comparison
  • New Subtitles
    • Subtitles given more definition than just yellow text.
    • I like the change to the subtitles in D2, it looks much more sleek. This isn't a change I ever thought about, but I'm glad they did it.
    • Image Comparison
  • Super Meter Icon
    • Your super meter now has the appropriate ability icon next to it.
    • Image Comparison
  • Color Coded Ability Icons
    • Abilities now match the color of the subclass you have selected.
    • Image Comparison
  • Grenade Refill Sound
    • The Destiny 1 sound cue for your Grenade coming off cooldown remains.
    • Just figured I would point it out in case someone didn't notice.
  • New "Super Charged" Text Animation
    • A small animated graphic displays when your super is charged.
    • It is simple, but looks nice. Unfortunately it plays every time you unpause or respawn so it can get annoying if you sit on your super for a while.
    • Gif Comparison
    • GIFv Version (credit to u/Mblim771_Kyle)
  • Weapons Glow on Perk Activation
    • When a conditional perk is activated (ex. Reloading after a kill grants bonus damage) the weapon will glow.
    • Image Comparison
  • Voice Channel Toggle More Visible
    • The option to change your voice channel in game is now more visible in the center of the screen.
    • Image Comparison
  • Radar Color Improved and Range Reduced
    • Radar range reduced somewhat from D1.
    • Threat Proximity color updated to a gradient.
    • Image Comparison
  • No More Radar-Peeking
    • A delay has been added to the radar reappearing after aiming down sights so quickly releasing and repressing aim to glance at the radar no longer works.
    • The delay is significant enough that getting flanked seems to happen more often.
    • D1 Gif - D2 Gif
    • D1 GIFv - D2 GIFv(credit to u/Mblim771_Kyle)
  • Health Bar Stylized
    • The Health and Shield break points are now indicated by the boarder graphic rather than arrows.
    • Image Comparison
  • Faction Symbols Replace Enemy Level Marker
    • The faction of the enemy fits in this space now.
    • I say 'faction' but it is unknown if this is actually 'faction' (i.e. House of Devils) or 'race' (Fallen) symbols.
    • Image Comparison
  • Majors Have New Naming Conventions
    • Tags like "Honored," "Resilient," "Unyielding," etc. will precede the enemy class to further distinguish rank.
    • Image Comparison
  • Health Bar Color Change for Enemy Majors
  • Majors and Ultras Have Sectioned Health Bars
    • Health bars have sections to help keep track of damage dealt.
    • Currently does not correlate with boss phases for the Strike boss.
    • Image Comparison
  • Enemy Shield Health Re-positioned
    • Shield Health is still a white bar, but it has been moved to the bottom of the health bar.
    • Image Comparison
  • Shields Are Brighter and Have Unique Styles for Each Race
    • Shield colors stand out more (to my eye anyway) and each enemy race (Cabal, Fallen, Vex, etc.) has it's own style of shield.
    • Image Comparison

HUD - Crucible (Control):

  • Map Callout Below Radar
    • A simple name for the area you are in is listed underneath the radar.
    • Great for improving team communication.
    • Image Comparison
  • Match Information Moved to Top of Screen
    • All match information (score, time, player status, etc.) is shown at the top of the screen rather than the bottom right corner.
    • Image Comparison
  • Icons Added to Show Each Class in the Match and Their Status
    • Icons that represent each player's chosen subclass are listed across the top.
    • These change to a skull when a player dies, solid yellow when their super is charged, and yellow with a small border animation while their super is active.
    • Gif Comparison
  • Zone Ownership Display Replaced by Number of Zones Controlled
    • Since zones are no longer neutral (after B is initially captured) the permanent display for each zone's status has been removed.
    • If all zones are controlled by a team the words "Power Play" will replaced the zone counter.
    • Image Comparison
  • Improved Killfeed Information
    • Notifications added for when a player has Cast their super or Loaded a power weapon.
    • Power ammo indicator will show the weapon type and ammo location.
    • Image Comparison
  • Redesigned "Killed By" Information
    • When you are killed, the player and weapon information is listed on the side of the screen.
    • Image Comparison
  • Purple Edge of Screen Effect When Enemy Nova Bomb is Tracking You
    • The edges of your screen will have a void effect if you are being tracked by a Nova Bomb.
    • Unknown if this occurs for other supers.
    • [NEED IMAGE/GIF]
  • Power Weapon Threat Indicator (credit to u/ChrisDAnimation)

Weapon Color Location
Sniper Red '+' Scope (very similar to D1 scope glint)
Shotgun White Barrel (looks like a flashlight attachment)
Grenade Launcher Red Barrel/Front
Rocket Launcher Orange Barrel (it's the inside of the rocket chamber that glows)
Fusion Rifle Blue Barrel (blue light below barrel)
Linear Fusion Purple or Red (unconfirmed) (unconfirmed)

  • Enemy Objects Glow Red
    • Enemy Grenades stuck to a surface will have a red outline to help identify them (ex. Lightning Grenades).
    • Enemy Rifts and Barriers also have a reddish color (credit u/B1g7hund3R)
    • [NEED IMAGE/GIF]
  • No Score In-Game or Post-Game
    • Ghost menu only shows player names, but no score (possibly names ordered by score but unconfirmed)
    • Post-game shows stats relevant to the game-type (Kills/Captures/etc.) but no score.
    • Image Comparison
  • More Player Reporting Options (credit to u/PredatorShroom)
    • Player reporting options have sub-menus for more detailed classification
    • [NEED IMAGE/GIF]

Character Menu:

  • Glimmer and Legendary Shards Shown on Character Page
    • These are shown above your armor instead of being on the Inventory page.
    • Unknown if Legendary Shards replace Legendary Marks entirely.
    • Shards are presumably used for Legendary Infusion.
    • Image Comparison
  • Holding LT/L2 Shows Power and Element of Gear
  • New Character Stat Modifiers
    • Intellect / Discipline / Strength replaced by Resilience / Mobility / Recovery
    • Stats are modified by Armor.
    • These are similar to the Subclass stats of Armor / Agility / Recovery of D1.
    • Image Comparison
  • Gear Stat Distributions Determined by Character Class and Armor Type (not 100% confirmed)
    • Helmet, Gauntlets, and Boots give 3 total stat points, Chest Pieces give 4
    • 1 point for Character Class
    • 1 point for Armor Type
    • 1-2 points Perk Node selection (determined by gear set)
    • Image Comparison

Class/Armor Stat
Titan / Heavy Resilience
Hunter / Mobile Mobility
Warlock / Restorative Recovery

  • Additional Weapon Stats Shown
    • Handling and Rounds Per Minute added to weapon summary
    • Rounds Per Minute replaced "Rate of Fire" bar from D1
    • Image Comparison
  • Class Items Do Not Alter Stats Other Than Power
    • No stat modifiers shown on Class Items in the Beta
  • Ghost Shell Modifiers Changed
    • Ghost Shell perks currently unknown.
    • Examples shown in Beta appeared to be placeholder.
    • Image Comparison
  • New Gear: Clan Banner
    • Replaces Artifact slot.
    • No confirmation on its exact function or properties.
  • Switch To and From Emblem/Ship Page with D-Pad

    • [Image Comparison](soon)

    • 3 options for Jump ability
    • 3 options for Grenade ability
    • Other modifiers listed in a block or group (ex. Attunement of Chaos or Attunement of Hunger)
    • Unconfirmed if perk blocks must be chosen in their entirety or it mix-matching can occur.
    • Image Comparison
  • Improved Gear Inspection View (credit to u/The_Rick_14)
    • Warlock chest piece and Hunter class item inspection shows the entire piece instead of being super zoomed in.
  • Roster Location Changed (credit to u/dawnraider00)
    • Roster is now under the Director rather than the Roster Page within the Start menu.

I hope you learned at least one thing. I'm very interested in continuing to build this list as information is discovered. This is very similar to some information found in Destiny 2 Everything We Know So Far but is designed to be a platform for discussion of appreciated/unwanted changes or other little details noticed.

What do you think of the changes? What stood out most to you? What do you wish hadn't changed (from a UI/Menu/Hud/Display standpoint)? Please, no balance/PvP discussion, there is enough of that elsewhere on the sub. Thanks!

Destiny 1: I never really knew the real you!

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 11:38 AM PDT

I'm a day one guardian with about 1500 hours in D1. It's the one game I played about 99% of the time over the past three years. I played it on an old 32" LCD TV that could only do 720p as its max setting. Last weekend I made an innocent comment about the age of the tv to my wife, and how I'll soon be playing D2 on it, and thought nothing more of it. The next day I get home from work, and she surprises me with a 49" 4K smart TV that she got for half price because it was a floor model! She says, "You work hard, so you deserve it, honey. Besides, I thought if we don't do this now, we'll be like those old people that grow old using the same stuff for the rest of their life, so I wanted you to have something you can enjoy now." Needless to say, I was blown away! So, of course Destiny gets fired up first. And OMG. There are details and effects on everything that I've never seen before! There are ambient sounds and audio effects I've never heard before! I just flew from planet to planet, in total awe! This is the prettiest game I've ever seen! And all this time I never really knew it! I've done everything there is to do in Destiny, except go to the lighthouse. And yet, it was bittersweet because I saw for the first time how it was supposed to look and sound, and I didn't get to do all that in that way. It would have been 10X the experience it was... This makes looking forward to D2 even better, and the wait even worse!

tldr: played all of D1 on an old TV, got a new one and mind = blown what I missed.

With 4v4 in PVP for D2 - I think Iron Banner should remain 6v6 due to it being a special event

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 06:14 AM PDT

Good afternoon Guardians,

I've had this thought in my head ever since the announcement of the 4v4 takeover - What if Iron Banner in D2 REMAINED 6v6 outside of the regular 4v4 events in Crucible?

I know it's a long shot as it seems pretty clear we will get 4v4 across the board but I think this would be a great idea to keep Iron Banner unique

Any thoughts / Discussion to add is always welcome

Rising Iron

I think keeping it 6v6 holds a lot of positives of for the gametype

  • Gives players the 6v6 fix that is now no longer static in game
  • Makes Iron Banner unique from regular Crucible
  • Draws attention from a lot of non-PVP players
  • Unique Gear to bring in even more players
  • Light level advancement (If it stays as it is now)
  • Can still be looked upon Competitivley by teams of 6 and casually by others looking for a group to have fun

With these points alone, I see a lot of benefit in Iron Banner being much more stand a lone than it is now rather than it just being 'Light level enabled'

All of this is just my idea, it may be ENTIRELY revamped as it's own gametype and set up, just something I'd love to see happen

Forged in Fire

Now Iron Banner is a recurring event, it pops up every month without fail and is flocked to by PVE and PVP players alike

It even pulls in a lot of PVE only players as they like the reward system in Iron Banner and prefer it to the regular PVP set up

Now of course, we have no idea right now if Iron Banner will return immediatley or be held off for weeks / months and the same for Trials but I always felt like Trials did enough in itself to be a unique experience, so why not take this chance to further seperate Iron Banner as an awesome and fresh feeling experience from the rest of the game, drawing even more excitement and anticipation for when it arrives?

Edit - A good point was raised about the size of the new maps - Countdown map in the Beta was considerable more spacious than the Control map. With Iron Banner being unique, it could have it's own Spawn System and map movement with Respawns to hopefully help the balance. Spawn shields to prevent any Spawn trapping also. This is all hypothetical and it's a very valid point but it stilll comes to what it would be overall, a unique experience outside of regular Crucble, what I believe PVP events should be like

The Last Word

I really liked the 4v4 set up but it does feel much more competitive in nature which some prefer and some don't - Not to mention the current debate on Fireteam sizes across the game

I feel like this could produce a happy medium but also be an absolute TON of fun when it rolls around again

Edit: Just to clarify - this isn't a post asking for 6v6 to stay. It's suggesting Iron Banner remain 6s to make it separate from the regular 4v4 setup that's coming. I have no issue with 4v4 and really enjoyed the beta - 4v4 is a welcome change in my eyes but making a once a month event separate from the rest of the crucible I think is a nice idea

Dead Ghosts should have audio-based lore like the mission Paradox to give insight about the guardian that ghost belonged to.

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 11:09 AM PDT

Destiny is in a class of its own. The wait for D2 is killing me.

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 07:59 AM PDT

I'm so hyped for D2 it's unreal. I have completely hammered everything on Destiny over the last few years and now all I do is nip on on a Tuesday to get my boxes from the activities and then hit the reef for a chance at some sweet sweet etheric light.

I've tried playing other games but it's not the same, they can hold my interest for an hour or 2 at a time but then I'm bored.

The progression, vistas, RNG, loot table, variety of activities and amazing gun play set Destiny apart. Other games tick the odd box or 2 but don't come close to matching it.

Roll on D2 release day......5 weeks baby!

3D Printed a Shoulder Charging Titan

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 11:00 AM PDT

I can't describe my level of excitement for this project. Using Destiny STL Generator to pull the VoG Raid Armor, I posed the Titan as if he is doing a shoulder charge. The settings were set to "Medium" so the detail is ok, but man oh man I had always dreamed of being able to make this. With the help of some smart rocks, metal, and plastic, I was able to. Hope you guardians like this and if you want to see progress photos, my Instagram is f1lthypawz Now for the good stuff.

I wish your choice of race had more impact in the game

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 06:58 AM PDT

Just like the title says, I wish your chosen character race had more impact in the game. Obviously from a gameplay perspective it would take some balancing, but would make for a fun additional choice. I even made some mock up ideas.

Awoken: Born at the edge of the Light and Darkness, the Awoken are a blend of both. More in tune with the Light inside them, they have mastered its use. However, the years of study and their natural Darkness has taken its toll on the body. As a result physical challenges are more difficult. (Bonus to ability duration and strength, and reduced cooldowns. Minor penalty to physical attributes i.e. ready speed, jump height, movement speed, melee speed)

Exo: The knowledge of their creation lost to the Collapse, the Exos struggle to identify their role and purpose in today's world. They know one thing for sure however; they are machines of war. Combat is what they excel at. Optimized servos and high-pressure pneumatic systems push the physical abilities beyond those of any Human or Awoken. Though the lack of a biological component has resulted in a decrease of their ability to channel Light, an Exo will more than make up for it with martial and gun skill. (Bonus to physical attributes i.e. ready speed, jump height, movement speed, melee speed. Minor penalty to ability duration and strength, and increased cooldowns.)

Human: The natives of Earth, and the first of the three races to discover the Traveller. The Traveller blessed them with light, and the result is clear. Humanity's adaptability and determination to survive has served them well, fighting back against the Darkness despite not having the Awoken's affinity with Light or the Exo's raw strength and combat prowess. (Base stats, no bonus or penalty).

Edit: Hi front page! Also, some really good discussion has taken place in regards to balance and game impact. Ideally racial traits would be implemented in a way that provides weight to the choice but without making one race glaringly more useful than the others i.e. reputation buffs with certain factions.

Destiny 1: What little thing did you appreciate the most?

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 09:41 AM PDT

In honor of the last Iron Banner, I was hoping to hear the small details others valued, what enriched your experience.

My first raid encounter clear was Oryx Challenge mode. I had been doing a nightfall with a couple of friends when one of them was PMed that two more were needed to kill Oryx challenge.

I learned to crouch on my plate, shoot my knight, and survive.

Once we killed Oryx, I was struck by how his body floated out into the empty vastness of space. I've never experienced anything like this clearing any other boss battle. This has remained my favorite thing in this game, and I never fail to look out beyond the arena to watch Oryx drift away.

What about you?

For the first and last time in Destiny 1, I landed the famed Hail Mary at the start of Dungeons

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 01:25 PM PDT

Here it is.

It took me two years to land this shot. I've gotten a couple of hits; but never have I gotten kills, especially a multikill. The guys I killed were pretty mad about it, justifiably so. I had some taunts the rest of the match whenever one of them killed me. The first guy to get revenge dabbed on me.

I would love to play in an African patrol zone in the future.

Posted: 02 Aug 2017 07:24 PM PDT

The Serengeti Wastes, or "The Cradle." Located in Tanzania, it would be a wide open grassland populated by Fallen and Vex.

It would be full of overgrown, sunken villages drowning in the Nile river as well as grassy box canyons (Bungie loves their box canyons) made up of Vex ruins and other dilapidated buildings. (Note: Since Bungie's level design typically relies on Box Canyons, and there aren't many IRL in Tanzania, Vex architecture would be a great way to get around their aversion to designing actual open spaces to explore)

In the background, Vex architecture reaches up to the sky, corrupting Mount Kilimanjaro, turning it into a mount of blocky, spiky protrusions. Maybe, god willing, we can get some scripted native wildlife (TIGERS! HOLY SHIT THIS IS HOW WE CAN GET TIGERS IN DESTINY. YOU CAN HAVE THIS ONE BUNGIE), hell maybe even some alien wildlife.

This would only be possible for if/when the Vex come to Earth, unless they got really creative with their box canyons.

How to get Kneepads on any primary (without bladedancer)

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 11:02 AM PDT

[Discussion]

Recently I got a 77 Wizard with kneepads on it. While using it, I discovered it gave me kneepads on all my weapons. I didn't know about this so I thought others wouldn't know either. Sorry if a lot of you already knew this but I used to think that kneepads only gave you the extra slide distance with that weapon out. I made a clip if you guys want to check it out in action.

Maybe a little Evil.

So my 7 year old girl enjoys getting on my PS4 to play destiny. Which means I usually have to go through and dismantle a bunch of engrams and sort back through my stuff because it's a mess.

So this morning I decided to put the Touch of Malice on and wait for her to try and play. Sure enough she fired up the game, got into a patrol and decided to run around and shoot things. I told her the cool thing about this weapon is that you never have to reload it!

She's killed herself about 12 times in 15 minutes and she can't figure out why.

Golgoroth's Cellar (Panorama)

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 01:32 PM PDT

Hello Guardians!

As mentioned in my [previous post]() I am starting to make a portfolio of Destiny 1 panorama images to showcase the best views available in the game. Well realising what a large task that will be I've decided to split it up slightly. I'm going to release a few different sets of images with the first set being 'The Raids of Destiny. This will comprise of a lot of images from all of D1's raids.

I wanted to start today with the first panorama I've made for this set - Golgoroth's Cellar.

Panorama 2925x1463

Slightly Larger Panorama 2925x2041

The main reason for this post is checking if this full album would be something /r/DTG would like to see, so please do let me know if you want more!

Hopefully I'll be back in the next week with the full set of images for your satisfaction!

Where'd he go, George?

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 10:26 AM PDT

In D2, I hope to see more dynamic maps. Like a lot more.

I know its a pipe dream, but I think it would be really interesting to have the environment be subject to carnage. And I don't mean repetitive "I know whats coming" stages of a battle. I was just playing the Sepiks perfected strike and I thought, how cool would it be if the U-shaped platform broke off or got destroyed based on amount of damage it took. Strategy would play a much heavier part, and less of a chance that two strikes will be boringly identical.

For those who have played the beta, what are your thoughts on 4v4?

Let's assume all of the gripes people had were fixed ASIDE from the player count. Do you think it's better or worse? 6v6 is kind of where my heart is at.

Rockstar Cans - Table of Where you can/can't find 'em

Posted: 03 Aug 2017 12:27 PM PDT

Please post your city and state, and if you have or have not found cans of Rockstar with the Destiny 2 promotion codes. I'll compile them into a 4-column table of city, state, and found or not found, and store. Feel free to also post any details about your search you like.

If you want to post City and Country if you are not in the US, I'll start a second table for the countries.

I'll do my best to update daily, and post the date of the update.

i.e. Dayton, OH: I searched Speedways, Kroger, Meijer, and Walmart, and no go.

The USA Table:

City State Found? Y/N Store(s)
Dayton OH N Walmart, Speedway, Kroger, Meijer
Dallas TX N
Appleton WI Y Kwik Trips, BP/Mobile
Green Bay WI Y Kwik Trips, BP/Mobile
Madison WI Y Kwik Trips, BP/Mobile
