Aonuma, Nakano, Takizawa Masterclass at Japan Expo

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 03:54 AM PDT

A Masterclass is ongoing with Mr. Aonuma, Mr. Nakano and Mr. Takizawa at Japan Expo about The Legend of Zelda.

Nintendo France posted tweets with concept arts and explanations on what was said during the Masterclass.

https://twitter.com/NintendoFrance/status/883275567965065216 : Here is the first 3D model for Link in Zelda Ocarina of Time

https://twitter.com/NintendoFrance/status/883276060644847616 For Zelda Ocarina of Time, the team said to Mr. Takizawa that he had 6 months to create 12 huge bosses.

https://twitter.com/NintendoFrance/status/883276205843251201 "I replied : « A huge boss every two weeks ? Easy. » (laughs). « I was young and unaware. » [Satoru Takizawa]

https://twitter.com/NintendoFrance/status/883276807147008001 At first, Mr. Takizawa was disappointed that Ganondorf's 3D model wasn't 100% equal as his illustration (left) in Ocarina of Time.

https://twitter.com/NintendoFrance/status/883277687615356929 "As I looked at this Link moving about the game full of energy, he grew irresistibly endearing." [Eiji Aonuma]

[BOTW] A thought about Zelda and the Triforce (mild spoilers for BOTW and Skyward Sword)

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 11:41 PM PDT

So, just had a thought as to why Zelda may have had problems connecting with her power. So when she can finally access it in this memory (don't watch you haven't gotten them all), we see the Triforce on her hand. Not just one triangle but all three, which means she bears the complete Triforce, not just a fragment as in OOT and TP.

This series has both approached the Triforce as either an object or something that someone 'bears'. There's a 'legend' that:

If a person whose Wisdom, Power and Courage were out of balance with each other should lay their hand upon the Triforce, it would shatter into its three separate pieces. The person would keep the piece of Triforce that represents the thing one most believes in, and the other two pieces would seek out a hiding place in the body of those chosen by destiny. (from OOT) And in some of the games in the child timeline, we see Zelda, Gannon, and Link be Triforce bearers.

So, my 2 am tinfoil theory is that BOTW Zelda is in balance with Power, Wisdom and Courage, but her personal doubts kept her from having faith in herself which would allow for her powers to manifest. She had no one to really guide her, and to give her that kind of faith in herself she needed. You can't tell someone to believe in themselves, they have to come to that realization on their own. Just so, you could say we all have the ability to do great things but if you don't believe in yourself then you will never reach your potential.

The moment where Zelda casts all doubt aside is to save Link. Before then she was intellectualizing her powers and focused on her doubts, or using her interests in tech to distract herself from her doubts. The moment where she protects Link selflessly with power, courage, and wisdom is where the Triforce manifests in her, if briefly. If she had it and used it's wish it was to save Link. Where is it at though? I don't know, probably the sacred realm or wherever the dragons go when they go up into their sky toilets.

The one thing I wish this game had was a bit more lore to explain why Ganon is a pink smoke monster, why there are dragons cruising around for no real reason (it's a shame we only really interact with one of them). I'd also like to know if Hylia is back to her Goddess form and Zelda's family are kinda like distant relations. Blood of the Goddess, not the spirit of the Goddess reincarnated in human form as in SS. For a lot of folks this is their first Zelda title, and they are missing so much of some of the fun lore/back story because this game does nod to it, it doesn't explain anything really.

Disappointed with DLC pack 1.... especially compared to Horizon Zero Dawn

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 09:45 AM PDT

In the first DLC pack we got

-Hard Mode (enemies regenerate health, all enemies upgrade a level)

  • some new outfits, none of which are better then the barbarian outfit so basically just cosmetic skins

-Trial of the sword

I think this is lacking quality content, there are no extra stories or dungeons, no new characters or locations or enemies. All of these things should be expected in a paid DLC. Trial of the Sword is the only major new addition but even this isn't as interesting as in past games as the amount of different enemies are very low. (And the reward should be the Mastersword doesn't break, not that it stays power up but that's just my opinion).

However, this becomes even worse when you look at Horizon Zero Dawn. HZD just released a FREE update that includes

-New game plus

-Ultra hard mode that makes your health regenerate slower, enemies have more health and are smarter, sneaking is harder

-New cosmetic changes and new sets of armour or weapons.

Hopefully the second DLC pack is better as, In my opinion, Nintendo took features that were always just in the base game in past games. (new game plus/hard mode, trials) and made them paid DLC.

Is there a way to tell how damaged an item is?

Is there any indication anywhere that lets me know how damaged a weapon is?

Which 3D Zelda dungeon would most easily be broken if you could free climb like in BoTW?

Posted: 06 Jul 2017 11:44 PM PDT

Assuming you were allowed to climb dungeon surfaces unlike in BoTW. You'd still need to take into account grabbing boss keys if the dungeon requires one.

How does this subreddit feel about self-promotion?

Posted: 07 Jul 2017 09:05 AM PDT

I'm curious what regular readers think about self-promotion.

I'm a NewTuber, so trying to get my content out there is pretty difficult. Obviously, when I post something to Reddit, it gets a lot more views.

Last Friday, I posted Episode 1 of my BOTW Master Mode play through, and didn't seem to have any complaints. Actually only heard good things.

Currently, the plan is to do 2 videos a week, and potentially 3 if the demand is there. How would people feel if I posted one post a week with both videos in it? Or could I post both videos when they come out?

I ask because other subreddits will down vote and hate on the person posting their stuff. Just want to see what you all think.

Thanks! :]
