Rocket Team Pokemons in Rocket Gym

Niantic just posted this on twitter

[Art] It's almost been a year. A long journey... and it isn't over. Not by a longshot.

Drove 2 hours down to Florida just to get a Heracross. Not only did one appear as soon as I opened the app but she had perfect IVs! Can't believe my luck

Heck with hats and shiny Pikachus, I just want a Pikachu that knows surf!

Seriously. Surfing Pikachu was a huge part of Pokémon Yellow and I'd love to see it brought back in this game to spice up the gyms.

A reminder that we have had the dodge bug for well over half a year

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 08:15 AM PDT

Note: This post was originally submitted to /r/TheSilphRoad but was removed by mods with no explanation even though it was already gaining a lot of traction auto removed due to multiple reports about being a complaint post. The mods there decided to keep that decision because this is about an old bug and would not contribute to discussing/research which are the goals of that sub. A user suggested me to posted here. Hopefully it will be better received in this sub.

I usually don't like to write these "complaint" posts but this is about a game breaking bug that Niantic refuses to fix. I think Niantic's handling of this clearly shows its stance towards its player base. I hope the mods don't feel this post should be removed as I am trying to raise some discussion about this bug and about Niantic's way to handle it. Hopefully it will bring the attention of u/NianticGeorge and u/NianticIndigo.

I want to point that I have been delaying making this post for months and for several times I started writing it but stopped. This was me being optimistic and giving Niantic another change and by having faith that the gym rework would solve all problems. Clearly it didn't and I think we can all agree 8 months was already enough time for Niantic to have it fixed.

For those who are out of the loop, the dodge bug happens when an opponent pokemon deals damage and you dodge. The "Dodged" message is displayed, however, if the server and client sides don't agree that the dodge was successful, your pokemon still takes the full damage. A few seconds later the health is restored, however, if your health happens to fall below zero, you will be stuck in an infinite loop of switching between your current pokemon and the next in line (if there is no next pokemon, the battle will end). That pokemon can also no longer be switched back in for the remainder of the battle. This gamebreaking bug completely ruins battles, destroys strategies, makes your charge bar go crazy and many times makes you lose everything. It made prestiging nearly impossible for the past months but that was "fixed" by removing it from the game. I remember the first mentions of this bug being in the weeks before Christmas, i.e. mid-December 2016.

I had really high hopes that the new gym rework would address this problem (last month it was stated by NianticGeorge that Niantic wouldn't fix the bug because they were working on the new gym system). Funny enough, not only they kept the bug but even decided to introduce the switch bug (infinite loop when you switch) and make the charge and health bars go up and down like they don't know what is going on.

The tipping point for me (I actually had several before but decided to wait for Niantic's action as stated before) was today during a Tyranitar raid. I was trying to beat a Tyranitar (together with two other players that showed up, which was is something nearly impossible). I was using two maxed out machamps (2800 cp) and other lower level ones (~1700 cp). Fire blast from Tyranitar was doing over half to the maxed machamps and OHKOing the lower level ones. Every time a machamp would start battling it would instantly faint to a Fire Blast. Then I would lose nearly 10 seconds breaking the bug loop cycle, and switching to a third pokemon, while the otherwise full health machamp was now out of commission. A few seconds later another Fire Blast and rince and repeat. Needless to say that Tyranitar survived with a time out.

While this post may seem ranty, I am actually making it because I really like this game, and I feel that having something so broken in it that shouldn't be too hard to fix is just sad.

Pokemon Go no longer has the hype of 2016, but a loyal fanbase remains

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 12:26 PM PDT

Is this real?

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 10:16 AM PDT

Is Niantic really this quiet the day before the one-year anniversary? this shit is a shame but honestly typical of them. The one year anniversary should be hyped af but of course, Niantic will probably drop the ball?

DIFFERENCES IN ANNIVERSARY EVENT IMAGES on niantic twitter... new one has anniversary event logo and beams of light above team gyms. anything else?

[Story] Just met a prolific three account player (one for each team)... It was a 72-year-old woman!

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 04:33 AM PDT

In our local area, there is been a prolific player who has been really aggressive in the gyms for many months with their three accounts (all matching usernames and one for each team).

A few fellow local players have briefly spotted this player before and they thought it may be an old lady, but they couldn't be sure.

Well a few days ago, a group of seven of us turned up for a Snorlax raid and she turned up too! To my surprise, she was a 72-year-old lady with a main Valor account at level 36 and Mystic and Instinct accounts in the low 30's.

Others had said she had previously been shaving gyms (not that I'd seen it myself) and it caused a bit of a fuss on some Facebook groups. We'd always stuck up for this player at least they were actually going to the places as she doesn't spoof. We didn't agree with what she was doing, but they may not have known what they were doing was wrong.

She was a lovely lady and we had a chat with her and we did explain that some people were upset that she was using three accounts to benefit herself and she took it well. She didn't see her actions as cheating, so it was good to explain the situation and clear things up.

She walks 10kms a day and she didn't have much to do once she'd been to the few Pokestops and gyms in the local area, so out of boredom, she created the other two accounts and then she just fought gyms all the time. I thought this was an interesting point as maybe there isn't enough for people to in small towns who just want to walk a lot and progress their account.

We left on good terms and she even told us where she lived and said we could pop by for some free jam (how very British).

How come niantic doesn't connect Pokemon Go to the Health apps (or the equivalent of it for other phones)?

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 01:27 PM PDT

I mean I'm assuming other phones have this type of Health app like iOS, so why wouldn't pogo just have it connect to that app? It would make it so people could walk around without having their phones constantly be on (which could help with battery) or so they could use a treadmill or something. Also I would think it would help with the problems where the game wasn't registering the entire amount that people walked/ran. I know other apps can connect to it bc I have multiple fitness apps connected to mine.

Not that I'm complaining or anything, just wondering if there's a reason they haven't done that.

[News] New pokéstops expected to appear at an even further increased rate: Niantic opens Portal Recon to all level 13 Agents + speculation on date for submissions by trainers

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 03:17 PM PDT

Disclaimer: Most F.A.Q. have already be answered during previous "another step"-posts but for those of you who dislike clicking my neat links below:

Previously: TL;DR: Portal Recon allows experienced Agents to review the 5M submissions Niantic has in backlog. Currently no new submissions are accepted (though we know they are looking into allowing Trainers to submit in the future)

The tool is still in beta and undergoing stress tests which is why they don't allow the millions of trainers to swamp the system.

Earlier steps: global release to L16, 1st week stats, global release to L15 and global release to L14

New step: access to Operation Portal Recon is being extended to Agents that are level 13 and above

Level 14 kinda compares to L36/37 in P-GO (not fully apt comparison as Agents have more level up requirements than Trainers). With that in mind, let's take a look at the stats.

Date what Analyzed1 rejected approved decision/week2
17th of May 1 week of L16 access 0,45M 116k 64k 180k
12th of June + 3 weeks of L16 access 1,9M 432k 182k 145k
27th of June + 2 weeks of L15+ access 2,3M 870k 340k 298k
6th of July + 10 days of L14+ access3 ???M ???k ???k 350k

1: analyzed stands for submissions that have been reviewed by at least one agent but require more reviews before a conclusion can be reached.

2: takes only the decisions into account since the previous measurement

3: Niantic didn't share full figures this time, they only announced that to date, one-third of the total backlog has been cleared! With a queue of 5.1M this means the decision/week-rate has increased to 350k

What can we learn from these stats (updated)

Previously drawn conclusions found here

  1. With about 3.4M candidates left and a weekly decision rate that will be well above 350k (dare we dream of 0.5M per week?) the queue could be cleared by end of August

Speculation

After that there's two actions I can imagine Niantic to take:

  1. OPR gets to sift through the 5M existing portals/pokéstops&gyms and we get rid off all the low-quality stuff (sorry /r/Shittypokestops you may be going out of business)

  2. Submissions open for Agents and/or Trainers (maybe staggered) and the combined 70M of us clog the queue up again within the first 5 minutes (let's be better than this, keep the candidate criteria in mind if you ever get to submit)

9 Days in a Gym

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 03:40 PM PDT

I just recently got booted from a gym I've held since the rework after 9 days 17 hrs 56 min. My Scizor lost all motivation during the long weekend due to inactivity, as I usually feed it before work. The 50 coin "reward" didn't nearly feel worth all that time. What is the longest you have held a gym for? https://imgur.com/08B22r2

[story] TIP: Use Silph Road Radio to drop raid beacons

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 11:41 AM PDT

Was getting frustrated having to try to solo level 3s and not even trying level 4s in my area, save on busy weekend afternoons. But I went on to thesilphroad.com and, for those that don't know, they have a new 'radio' feature, where you can drop beacons on the raids you plan to attend so that others in your area can RSVP and head there to fight with you. It's in its early stages -only one beacon was anywhere near me on the map, but it had 10 minutes and I could just about make it there in about that time. Jetted over, and I watched the raid launch as a Snorlax when I was a couple blocks away. I showed up and joined with only a few seconds to pick my team. Shortly there after another couple people showed up, so we ran (when it was clear we wouldn't win), and restarted. Fast fwd, 7 of us took him down with time to spare and it was a great experience. Check it out and start dropping beacons so we can all benefit. And tip - wait a couple minutes to start to make sure others get there before you begin! Thanks The Silph Road.

My Sister and my Fiancé caught identical raid bosses, and decided to name them after their favorite anime twins.

Was able to do a Solo Machamp Raid at level 33. Not the best team and know some changes I need to make!

Here is the link to the video. My team is a bit weak but I think that it will just get better as I now have a reason to power some up.

Now that Raids are getting people together and stuff, can we get more multiplayer features? Like item trade and perhaps even Pokémon trade?

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 02:43 PM PDT

We all have loads of evolution items we don't need, but someone out there would love to have them. Let me trade someone my 4 Upgrades and 4 Dragon Scales. I'm yet to see a Sun Stone!

This made me laugh

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 12:54 PM PDT

Went to a local store and noticed the poke stop there was now a gym and a raid was ongoing. There was a mixed gender group of adults in business attire standing there (outside the entrance) obviously playing pokemonGo. I was leaving just as the raid ended. One of the group pulled out a different phone, spoke into it and as I walked to my car I saw a black SUV pull up and the whole group piled in.
