Pokémon GO - Attention Trainers! Some changes are being made to the sub.

Attention Trainers! Some changes are being made to the sub.

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 08:45 AM PDT

Welcome, Trainers.

Today we're announcing some changes being made to the sub.

Complaints and Declarative Posts

As of late we have seen a lot of users using this subreddit as a board for complaints. Many of these threads generate no discussion, have little thought behind them, and are generally people just venting to themselves. These threads clutter up the subreddit, and provide no avenues for discussion.

As such, we are going to remove all non-constructive complaints, and redirect simple statements and declarative posts to the "Dear Niantic" thread, that will be stickied weekly. This is not a ban on all complaint threads, this is a ban on simple statements.

Image Macros & Memes

Recently we had a poll regarding whether or not to allow image macros/memes on the subreddit.

We will now be allowing image macros/memes that use a Pokémon GO asset. This means that templates and images must have a Pokémon GO related theme/background. Examples of the type of allowed posts can be found here, here, and here.

Moderation and Rules

We will also be changing how we moderate this sub in 3 ways.

Instead of a comment reply, removed posts will now be flaired as removed with a reason as to why.

We will also be taking a harsher approach with repeat offenders and uncivil users. This will hopefully push the discussion towards a more constructive path, whilst losing behind those that are unable to interact with others in a civilized manner.

We have simplified the full list of rules, hopefully in a way it is easier to follow. Rules are now labelled properly, and are simplified. This is to help any complaints or feedback with the rule list, as well as having them easier to refer to. The new rule list can be found in the sidebar, and here.

We hope this changes are a welcome one, and as always these will be used in a trial period effective from today. We welcome feedback from everyone, so please use this thread to discuss the changes, or alternatively you can send a modmail. Thank you for your support and involvement in our community.

The r/pokemongo mod team.

Bonus Event Has Been Extended for 72 Hours!

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 06:50 PM PDT

If Niantic really cared, they would extend the anniversary event until the end of the week

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 05:10 AM PDT

Even with the Legendaries being released and putting aside the whole Grant Park fiasco, this anniversary event was an abysmal failure. It wasn't even until yesterday that it actually felt like it was an event at all - I'm tired of Pikachus and shitty boxes being their cop out for actually having to give players something substantial in terms of gameplay.

The shitty thing is that for people who work a 9-5 office job, yesterday was basically it for all of the rad bonuses and stuff. If Niantic really wanted to smooth things over with players and really wanted to have a good anniversary celebration, they'd extend this event. I have no confidence that they'll do it....Hanke is probably too busy licking his wounds and droning on about how nobody could possibly understand the massive infrastructure the game requires and how hard it is to be a billion dollar company AND to put out a working product...but I just really wish they would do something that actually benefitted the players for more than a damn day.

EDIT: I came back to say this - if they don't extend the event, it's going to be out of spite for the player base. There are numerous events that Niantic has extended over the past year, and they've all be fairly inconsequential - "Oh boy, I can catch my 50th Slugma!" This is an event that players are actively engaged in that is probably the most obvious one to extend, but Hanke is probably holding out to avoid looking spineless after being booed in Chicago - which is the exact opposite of what he'll achieve.

EDIT 2: THANK YOU NIANTIC FOR LISTENING TO THE COMMUNITY! This is a good step forward. Also, to everyone who commented something along the lines of "quit whining" - remember over the next few days when you see new and old faces at raids and in parks playing the game that those people likely would not be enjoying the game if the community hadn't demanded that Niantic be held to a higher standard.

This game is only fun during events

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 12:46 PM PDT

Especially in the suburbs where nothing of interest pops up. In the last 2 days I have gained more experience than playing the rest of the year.

My all time favorite bonus is the Buddy and Egg distance reduction. I walked a 10km in about half the time of a 5k egg. It is just beautiful.

The main game is so lacking for rural and suburban players that the special bonuses actually make it playable.

Sucks that someone did this, but It still gave me a chuckle.

PSA: For those using their lucky eggs to mass evolve before the end of the event: use the search bar and type "evolve" to filter only Pokémon that can evolve.

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 01:34 PM PDT

pretty much title. this has helped me a lot. it hides Pokémon after you run out of candy for them so you don't have to scroll to the next one (especially useful if you have a lot of lag). easily my favourite use for the search bar so far!

[Idea] Niantic should introduce daily quests

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 04:17 PM PDT

Niantic should introduce 'daily quests', especially now seventh day evolution items are redundant, to keep casual players playing daily:

For example:

Day 1 - Spin 3 stops, walk 2km, catch 5 Pokémon etc.

Day 2 - Hatch 2 eggs, defeat 3 gyms, use 5 pinabs, feed 5 Pokémon in gyms etc.

Day 3 - Walk 10km, partake in 2 raids, evolve 10 Pokémon etc.

Each day the 'quest' could potentially get harder and trainers must attempt to keep their daily 'streak' intact by completing each daily quest. With each day awarding increasing XP.

OR

Quests rotate on a weekly basis, days 1-7 and increasing XP is awarded for each day. As per the current Pokéstop/caught Pokémon function.

Thoughts/Feedback welcomed 🙂

[Discussion] Please Continue Raids after 9PM?

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 11:49 AM PDT

It's difficult to find time to play Raids if you work a typical 9AM-6PM day. That's only 3 hours after work which for the typical player will be consumed with other activities such as chores, eating, travelling, etc.

In some countries it's often too hot to play in the day. Personally I'd much prefer to play in the evening when it's cool rather than in the day when I have to worry about overheating and sun exposure.

Playing at night can also be safer because there's less traffic to be hit by. Traffic is a PoGO player's nightmare.

Friends who went to Chicago caught over 50 Lugia and Articuno

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 07:56 AM PDT

I know this was just bad luck, but I didn't catch a single legendary out of 7 raids. However, due to the 100% legendary catch rate in Chicago, my friends each came home with over 50 Lugia and Articuno. I understand that Go Fest was a complete disaster, but this is very demoralizing. Your thoughts?

The increased rare encounters mean only one thing for us rural players...increased disappointment.

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 09:28 AM PDT

MRW I beat 8 raids and catch 0 legendary Pokémon... I'm all for difficulty, but this was just depressing.

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 05:13 PM PDT

[Idea]PoGo needs a "Find Party" kind of thing

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 12:48 PM PDT

As the title says...In rural areas its hard to coordinate raids (especially legendary ones which need more people) and not all people use Facebook, Discord, Silphroad...It would be a cool idea, like in other mmo that an option "Find Party" is added ingame, which will lead you in a chatroom, where you can coordinate raids much much easier. Moreover an "Add Friend" option so you can send pm too. Also this option will definately need to be added when PvP and trading is introduced. You cant expect us to write in every Facebook team, "fite me" or "trade my pidgey for lapras pls"...

[Discussion] Dear Niantic, can you stop being vague?

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 03:10 PM PDT

Dear Niantic,

I feel that the time has come to address this glaring issue. While you have made strides towards communicating more with the players, they are not nearly enough. The responses we get range greatly in usefulness and completeness. We get conflicting information Such as with motivation and how to get pokemon to return, to vague information Such as with the differences between a free and a premium raid pass, or even no prior information at all Such as no mention of the daily defender bonus amount in the new gym system.

It is because of all the vague and missing information that I now urge you to start being more detailed. I can fully understand and appreciate not giving things like release dates, or information on features that may not be implemented. However, what I cannot understand, nor excuse, is the sheer lack of information regarding features that are released currently, or confirmed features that will be released.

Even if you don't have a release date for a feature, which is fine, you can at least be clear and complete with the information given to your player base. It should not fall upon us to find out all of the finer details of your features. We should not have to figure out, through trial and error, that the premium raid pass is merely called premium because you purchase it with money. We should not have to come to find out that the defender bonus has been lowered after all of this time, or that we only get 20 stardust from feeding a berry because we went out and feed them.

So please, I urge you, begin to be more clear. Give us All of the details when you release something. If it rewards stardust, How much? If it is changed, in what way? If something is for a limited time, how long? These simple things will go far to at least help your player base to have a clear picture of what is going on around us concerning the game.

Pokémon go dream achieved

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 03:59 AM PDT

My favorite pic I took during the PoGo Fest

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 06:49 PM PDT

Reddit, we did it! I attended Pokémon Go Fest because of you! [Story]

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 07:59 AM PDT

Reddit is an incredible platform with even more incredible people. I posted a rant the night before PoGo fest since I was a bit angry at scalpers winning in Sprint's raffle for entry wristbands: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/comments/6oszk3/to_the_scalpers_who_entered_in_multiple_accounts/

Someone replied to the post and claimed one of their group members had to drop out and their group had an extra wristband that would've went to waste. With Reddit's sarcastic nature, I thought I was probably being trolled, which is fine, I get some people want to have a laugh at other's expense. No worries, I just wanted to know.

I message him about 30 minutes after the comment and got no reply. I thought the trolling was confirmed by him not communicating that night.

The next morning I wake up to a message from him at 7:30am saying he wasn't kidding and I could, in fact, have the wristband and early entry for face value. Then, he provided a number to contact. I call and he confirmed everything, even invited me to hang with their group.

Proceeded to flip out, woke up gf as I'm scrambling to get things together to get downtown; then says in a groggy morning voice:

"You're gonna meet up strangers who you talked to on the internet for the wristband?"

"Babe, they're not strangers. They're from the best community on Earth, REDDIT!!"

I get downtown, park, and meet them in line. Super nice guys. I still couldn't believe it was happening.

They handed me the wristband. I enter in the activation code, and BOOM!!! IT WAS ACTUALLY REAL!

We stuck together the whole day and had a blast. Yeah the first 4 hours sucked, but after 'Ni-antics' extended the radius of the fest, we left and caught all the Mons we possibly could. We walked all over the loop, gained 60k stardust just from the fest alone BEFORE bonus stardust, and all the eggs I hatched.

Then legendaries popped and and got them both. Absolutely. Incredible.

I wish there were words beyond 'thank you' to express the deep and humbling gratitude I feel. Thank you to Reddit, PoGo subreddit and u/FraserDanger for making it happen!!!!!

And also, to those anonymous late night reddit lurkers who upvoted my post in the beginning, a huge thank you to you!

Apparently he had logged on to the PoGo subreddit the night before the fest to see if there was anything new they needed to know and saw my post on its front page. Unreal.

Even with Niantic failing us at the event, it was still a dream. Thank you again u/FraserDanger!!!!!!!

Niantic should add Sharpedo to Pokémon GO for shark week.

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 05:37 PM PDT

Sharpedo is in generation 3. Niantic should add Sharpedo before the rest of gen 3 to celebrate shark week even though they aren't ready to release gen 3, like how they released baby Pokémon 2 months before gen 2.

[Complaint] John Hanke's ridiculous idea that Pokemon GO needs to revolve around live events

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 09:36 AM PDT

Reading past interviews of John Hanke, he always says his ultimate goal is "Niantic-led live events." From what we saw this weekend, his "goal" managed to infuriate players all around the world, especially in Chicago...that is until they allowed only players in one city on the planet to have a perfect catch rate on legendary Pokemon.

I understand giving Lugia to the atendees of Go Fest but only allowing one city in one country in the world access to legendary Pokemon that players have been asking for since last year is not fair in anyone's book. And I'm not ranting at the players in the Chicago area that were able to get legendaries; they were lucky enough to benefit from Hanke's flawed ideas. But every other player around the world is left trying to find a legendary raid and not just find a raid, but find enough people that haven't already stopped playing due to the ineptitude of Niantic, and if they do find enough people to bring down the legendary Pokemon, hoping that throwing golden razz berries and a premier ball will be enough to catch a legendary Pokemon.

I understand a lower catch rate for legendaries; Pokemon wouldn't legendary or mythical if everyone can catch them on the first throw. Having a low catch rate gives them more worth and the players who at first may not catch them but eventually do will value them that much more once they catch them. But judging from what I see on here or on the internet, there are only a select few that have been able to catch legendaries.

I personally went out all day yesterday and this morning before work trying to find legendary raids and I didn't find a single one.

So John Hanke, if you or any of your cronies are reading, do us a favor and step down as CEO of Niantic and have them bring in someone who actually cares about what the players are looking for in Pokemon Go.

[Complaint] [Discussion] Articuno will stop appearing soon!

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 02:29 PM PDT

Here is states that Articuno will only appear for a "brief while".

Which in my opinion is total BS, I can't believe Niantic have been hyping Legendary Pokemon and now they're just gonna take Articuno out. They haven't even been specific as to when.

What do you guys think of this?

EDIT: Just had a thought. Maybe it means they'll stop appearing in gyms soon and start appearing as very rare wild pokemon. If this is the case, they should've just said that instead.

[Discussion] I'm glad that the legendaries have been so hard to catch

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 05:58 PM PDT

I was worried at the beginning that Legendaries would become too common because the raids were everywhere, but I'm glad that they're hard to catch. I haven't been able to catch Articuno but I think that's what makes it so special for those who were able to catch them. The fact that they're so hard to catch makes catching them much more meaningful.

Yes it sucks that me (and many others) are still missing one or both of the birds, but the fact that they're hard to catch even when you encounter them means that when you do eventually get one, it means much more. It's frustrating to have that shadow in the pokedex but I'd rather it be really difficult to catch than be so common that people are transferring them.

Did anyone actually receive a push notification from the game saying bonuses are live?

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 07:13 AM PDT

By being active on the silph road and pokemon go reddit pages I knew the bonuses were live. I believe Niantic posted on twitter/facebook about it as well? But am I the only one that finds it absolutely mind boggling that we are currently receiving the largest, most substantial, most important bonuses in the history of this game...and the game hasn't even told us about them!? No push notification, no in game pop up, no news item...literally nothing. Out of 4 or 5 of my family and friends who play, I am the only one who even knew these bonuses were active. Not to be negative, but pointing out something that must improve in the future because it's absolutely ridiculous for an app this financially successful. Communication.

[Idea] Niantic: Please Let Us Choose Amount of Rare Candy to Transform

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 05:49 PM PDT

Now that Lugia and Articuno are catchable with Moltres and Zapdos coming very soon, I am encountering problems when trying to power them up. I have to transform each rare candy one at a time which is extremely tedious. We need to be able to choose how many we want to transfer at once.

I got to be a part of the mad rush of everyone running to the first Lugia raid after Pokemon Go Fest. Due to all of the network congestion and server connective issues the lag was real and somehow got my Magikarp added as the first pokemon. Naturally I had no ability to change him out. Made for a great photo at least!
