| If you received 1 coin for each Pokemon knocked out a gym, would you attack more? Posted: 04 Jul 2017 12:43 PM PDT If you received 1 coin for each Pokemon knocked out a gym, would you attack more? I feel that this would give you an incentive to attack, if the limit was still 50 coins a day. [link] [comments] | ||
| Will Niantic do anything for the official 1 year anniversary? Posted: 04 Jul 2017 12:01 PM PDT With tomorrow being the official 1 year anniversary of the game being released, do we anticipate Niantic doing any new events or updates this week? I've tried searching around and haven't seen anything mentioned. I'm kind of surprised there isn't anything planned or rumored to be honest. [link] [comments] | ||

| [Discussion] 500 Item Experiment Posted: 04 Jul 2017 03:19 PM PDT I cleared out my bag to 500/1000 earlier today, and spun pokestops until it filled back up. Here are the results (before-after-%):
I am trainer level 34, which affects what types of items that I'd get from stops. Also I only spun regular stops, i.e. not gym stops. Some people have mentioned that it feels like we're getting less potions since the gym update; I've experienced the same thing, so I wanted to do this little experiment to see if any trends show up. Anyways I hope you guys find this helpful, it would be neat to hear from anyone else who wants to try out this experiment! Also one last thing - it does seem like the speed cap has been more flexible, it was easier spinning stops even though I was maybe half a block past them. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 04 Jul 2017 07:32 AM PDT The following is a story of how PokemonGO can bring people of all walks of life together! I'm a dude in my early 20s. It's Monday night. I'm out riding my bike down the local trails and decide to paint the town red by taking some gyms, but they don't last long! A mystic trainer has kicked them all out! But, rather than carry out swift judgement against all things blue and mortal, I noticed a level 3 raid egg about to hatch and decided to recruit the mystic trainer to the cause. After some incredibly sexy detective work, I deduced who the trainer was - and older women, perhaps in her 50s, sitting on a park bench nearby. I approached her with a big smile and called her by her trainer name, which made her look at me with the kind of look a citizen in Soviet Russia would give the KGB knocking on their door "just to ask some questions". But after some light conversation she warmed up to me and agreed to fight in the raid. After walking to the raid, she wasn't confident that the two of us, despite being level 30+, could take down the Alakazam that hatched. So, she starts calling in for back up. Like a staff sergeant under fire, this lady starts radioing for help from all corners of the neighborhood. Enter the local platoon of retired-women-playing-pokemon-Go. Within 5 minutes I am surrounded by 10 grey haired women eager to take down this zam. So here we, just a young man and 11 grandmas, standing in the dark beneath the light of a dim street lamp, illuminated by the glow of our smart phones, laughing and ultimately having a great time. There was nothing but love and it's all thanks to how PokemonGo can bring people together, despite their backgrounds. And for the record, yes, we cleared the raid and made the catch. It was a 93% IV Zam and mine had the confusion/future sight moves. I also got a Fast TM which is used to take steel wing off my dragonite! A great end to a night of trying to catch them all. | Why this update saved the game (for me and I'm sure other casuals) Posted: 04 Jul 2017 07:19 AM PDT HI! I know lots of people here are anti-update, but as a casual "rural" player I have to say this update made the game playable for me. I'd say casual due to location (the closest pokestop/gym is a good 10 min drive from where we live). When my husband and I go to the closest city (four hour drive away) we run around like rabid furrets hitting up all the pokestops and catching pokemon we never see in our small town. Quick background: My husband and I "shared" an account since July last year. (He let me catch and spin for him whenever I asked) And have made it to level 27. When I finally upgraded my phone and was able to play on my own, I started an account during the Easter event and have already made it to level 21. For us, gameplay was catching wild pokemon, spinning pokestops and walking eggs. After a while it just became opening up the app next to a pokestop, spinning, catching whatever pokemom popped up, then closing the app until the same thing the next day. Gyms were impossible to fight in. This update has completely changed the way we're playing the game. We live in a small tourist town, 6 gyms total. The past year they have all been level 10 red. The same 10 players at every gym with 2000+ snorlax, blisseys, gargados, etc. Literally for MONTHS it would be the same group in all the gyms. Sure every once and a while another group of blues or even the lone yellow (shout out to the lone yellow in my hometown!!) would band together and take down some gyms, but an hour later the same group of reds would take back the gyms. So no coins for us :(. After the update suddenly the red dudes are nowhere to be seen!!! (bye bye spoofers!) and my husband and I have done more gym battles and have gotten more coins the last week than we had in the previous year! Last night we were able to go and take down a gym together, it was super fun! Sure we were kicked out an hour later, but at least we had fun battling and winning, something we very rarely experienced before. I no longer dump my revives and potions for more room for pokeballs, I actually use them on my now constantly fainting pokemon (seriously like a victorian drama up in my pokedex from all the battling I do). Heck, I've even been able to BUY UPGRADES for my pokemon and item storage with all the sweet sweet coins I've earned at gyms. Don't even get me started on how fun Raids are! As someone who uses the game as a past-time when out running errands or to get out of the house with the family on the weekends, this update has made the game so much more interactive and fun. I'm sure it sucks for hardcore players and spoofers that had 3000+ pokemon sitting in gyms raking in coins, but how is that fun? Anyway, can't wait to see what's going to happen for the one year anniversary and can't thank the team at Niantic enough for dealing with spoofing. These new updates were a real game-changer (pun totally on purpose)! Thanks for reading! [link] [comments] | ||
| Just had 15 people show up for a Tyranitar raid in the middle of Mississippi. Posted: 04 Jul 2017 12:49 PM PDT Literally just had 15 people show up in the middle of Mississippi for a raid. It doesn't get more rural than where I live, so I don't know what the complaints are. Just advertise the raid around for a while and you can get people there. Edit: Apparently I'm suburban. My bad. | Should or should not Niantic ever introduce Pokemon Center to pokemon go? Posted: 04 Jul 2017 06:19 PM PDT With niantic main purpose of pokemon go being social interaction what other better way of social interaction (other than battling the gym or raid) than sitting at the pokemon center to recover your pokemon. To prevent this from being OP 1. You can only sent 6 pokemon to the pokemon center at a time 2. maybe every 1 minute it recovers 1 HP of your pokemon 3. pokemon center to be limited 1 for every 10 gyms (maybe more) This would also introduce another character (Nurse Joy) to pokemon go other than professor willow I know this would reduce niantic revenue but niantic can still lower the drop rate of max revives from pokestops lower. People would still stock on max revives if they need to recover their pokemon immediately. Would love to hear everyone opinion on this. [link] [comments] | ||

| Playing the nice guy. New instinct lvl 25 player in area. Posted: 04 Jul 2017 02:16 PM PDT I have four gyms in my immediate area. Historically since I moved here it's just been about 3 Mystic and 4 Valor players that swap holding the gyms. I was a pleasantly surprised to see them all Instinct yesterday. have a plan to not just blast his weak Pokemon straight out of all the gyms. Most are 2000 CP and below. I am going to just change one a day to help them with coins. Is anyone else trying to play the nice guy? [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 04 Jul 2017 08:49 AM PDT I know there have been a million suggestions since the big update, but I think this would be really cool and easy to implement. For each gym when you click on the badge it would be awesome to see a leaderboard of which trainers have the most gym XP on that gym. Obviously, Niantic has the data for each gym so it would just be a matter of compiling it. I would love to know how I stack up against others trainers at my main gyms! [link] [comments] | ||
| Couples/Friends who picked different teams are probably glad now. Posted: 04 Jul 2017 06:32 PM PDT When the game first came out everyone thought being on the same team as friends was the best. Now I just wish I knew someone who wasn't on Mystic (or anyone who played honestly). Would be great for swapping gyms between each other for 50 coins everyday. Anyone here have friends on different teams? Does it help with coins? [link] [comments] | ||
| Are high-IV Pokemon actually more likely to be low-level? Posted: 04 Jul 2017 02:00 PM PDT Not sure if this is just a rant, but opinions and advice/tips are still appreciated. :) Time and time again I get high-IV Pokemon with ridiculously low levels, even when I'm level 30. I can't help but think this was intentional on Niantic's part. Did they do this with the intent of having you find a good one at a low level that you keep "fed" with candy and stardust to raise up along with you? Does anyone even play that way? Because of the way it seems to be, I don't bother evolving anything until I have enough candy to evolve it completely to the top evolution... just in case one with better IV manages to be caught while collecting candy. Unfortunately, it seems that if I end up getting a better IV one during that time, it ends up being much lower level. High IV means better CP in the long-run, but that also means a lot more candy/dust to invest in it if it started at a low level (which seems likely), and then you might still get a higher IV one while leveling up that one. Very frustrating. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 04 Jul 2017 09:21 PM PDT They state: Increased Pokémon Encounters Catch a wide variety of Pokémon, including some that have never been seen before in Grant Park. This is a great chance to fill in some gaps in your Pokédex. And a picture of Heracross... Will ppl be able to get all the regional ones in Chicago??!? Hope we all get the same opportunity in Europe.... [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 04 Jul 2017 05:13 AM PDT There's a pokestop that's about a 2 mile walk from my house, yet always has spawns and hides the sightings. I walk in any direction and I'll pick up another stop that's about a mile walk. Rarely do I even get to see the Sightings 3 Pokémon menu. This morning was one of those rare times that I could see the Sightings. A Larvitar pops up! I've been playing regularly while walking around the sub, and I knew it couldn't be at any of the regular spots I pass, so I go on a hunt. I see everything disappear on the Sightings, but I see the Nearby, so I panic and start running in a direction without a destination. Moments later the Sightings reappear and I see the Larvitar again. I find it hiding in the woods. Happy 4th of July! Tl;dr: I've been living in a Larvitar spawn area and didn't know it thanks to a horrible Nearby menu. Thanks, Nearby.... Moral of the story, get out and walk. [link] [comments] | ||
