Learn Dota 2 - Here to answer questions about playing solo queue in 1k-4k mmr brackets

Here to answer questions about playing solo queue in 1k-4k mmr brackets

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 12:08 PM PDT

I calibrated 1.5k somewhere in 2014 and im now hovering at around 4650-4700 solo mmr. I don't know if anyone actually wants this but here it is anyway, answering any question to the best of my ability about playing in the 1k-4k brackets. Bare in mind I'm just a normal dota 2 player and most of this stuff will just reflect my personal experiences playing in the 1k, 2k, 3k and 4k brackets. Im not gonna talk about anything above that since im not there (yet)

Mana/Mana Regen

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 11:16 AM PDT

How much mana/mana regen should I spec into with items? I know in League those stats were basically worthless once you had "enough," but it feels like I run out of mana pretty frequently if I spam, and if I don't spam I feel like I'm not contributing as much as I could be in a fight.

For context, I've mostly been playing Lina and some supports. With Lina especially, I can almost never pull off a full Eul's + abilites + ult combo because I run out of mana halfway through.

List of things BKB doesn't prevent against...

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 10:15 AM PDT

Low level pubber here - 600MMR

It is VERY rare to see a BKB in my bracket, almost never.

I personally rarely by one - but know I can increase my survivability by doing so.

Just need to know what heroes is a BKB useless against. Want to be able to decipher vs lineups where it makes sense vs it doesn't

Impacts of single pulling

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 07:55 PM PDT

Hey guys, i'm around 4.6k and trying to understand the impacts of single pulling to the small camp and when is the best time to do it.

I understand it's a good way to get xp without leeching from your safelaner, but can't it also semi-ruin the lane by creating a double wave? should I then pull through to the big camp on every single pull?

After watching this bsj 6.1k support coaching vid, from what I understand, it's good to single pull against an offlaner that is constantly pushing the wave to your tower (like a dark seer or sand king or some shit)

Thanks

Anyone under ~5.5k looking for replay analysis

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 06:10 PM PDT

Did this like 6 months ago and banged out about 10 or 15 replay analysis's.

Basically I have extremely bad dota caused hand problems and simply cannot play (although I keep trying) so I figured outside of watching pro dota and making notes I can maybe give some other people some second perspectives.

If you have a replay you want me to analyze/review just post it here as well if you have anything you want me to focus on or questions you want answered.

About me: I'm a 6k mid & pos 4 player. I played offlane and carry in the TI qualifiers and got fairly high so I'm also fine with that. Favorite heroes are invoker, meepo, chen, lone druid, naga, puck but I can play pretty much every hero in the game at a 6kish level.

My dotacoach is here: https://dotacoach.org/asg but that's just a reference for mmr & coaching history, this thread is separate from paid 1 on 1 coaching.

Need help with my hotkeys!

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 04:58 PM PDT

http://imgur.com/a/ocBSR this is my current hotkeys and I think that I might need some help with my current item hotkeys. I've seen some players and their item hotkeys seems a little too hard for me. The reason I want to change my hotkeys or maybe heed advice is because some times I cannot manage my items during clutch plays. Help me?

Ancient Apparition tips?

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 04:39 PM PDT

I seem to be bipolar when it comes to playing this guy. One game I'm brutalizing heroes and the next I'm feeding hard. I know that he's a very, very situational pick and needs to be carried until he can get a HoM/Scepter, but even against heroes like Alchemist, Lifestealer and Abaddon, I still have a tough time. My team usually can't focus on Alchemist when I blast him, but besides that I do think the other two are my fault. Any tips to stop feeding and git gud? Better item builds? Get Atos? I've seen him solo a fed Legion Commander before in high MMR games, so I know how strong he can be.

When to and when not to pick him? Is he just really bad against the current meta?

Trench League (<3075 MMR) team recruiting

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 07:48 AM PDT

Hi all, for those that don't know, the Trench League is a league made for players below 3k MMR (actually, 3075 with the recent change to the rules). It is played on US servers. The team registration closes on July 20th, and the group stage starts July 23rd.

My team (Team PokéDotes, with most of us on USE) is recruiting! We are looking for players and standins for our team. At this point we might need another support. Preference will be given to players close to the 3k cap. Message me here or on discord (tblancha#7171) if you're interested, or just reply with your dotabuff/opendota profile

The rules for the tournament can be seen here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pyzuduK5gBpr5MLhXU9oUsZjHgERjCWkiLDMJRgW0Tg/edit

Who is a better hard support?

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 03:45 AM PDT

So I'm looking for a god-like support and choices wise are probably CM, Io or oracle ( Chen maybe? ). Fuck how complex ability wise they are, looking more for how hard they can support. IO seems interesting but I notice he has low winrates, I've never played Chen but I'm willing to learn, Oracle is the hardest to use to me, CM is cancerous to play against, if your carry is trash. I heard Rubick can hard support if he steals abilities of the hard supports properly. (4k+ MMR im somewhere around here, playing in party mmr Ranked matches. )

How to deal with Troll lategame

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 11:54 AM PDT

Feels like once he has items and can man fight people it's so hard to deal with him, and when I do beat troll its usually hard to identify what is helping aside from killing the rest of his team first.

What characters / items help deal with troll? Halberd helps, silver edge is okay. Anything else?

Is Dragon Knight back?

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 11:50 AM PDT

I was watching Purge's "Axe mid" video and he was talking about how axe is good against some popular heroes in the meta like DK. Personally I love DK but did not know that he was good right, is he a sleeper hit right now that I've been ignoring?

Looking for videos/players/replays to learn the support role

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 11:03 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask what I'm looking for, but I'll try anyways.

I play dota 2 since 2011 (on and off tbh, only have 2k matches) and I am at 4.4k mmr at the moment. I usually only played core roles, mostly mid and for the past year or so only offlane.

So I started playing support in the last 5 days or so, but I honestly get lost so quickly in the game, not knowing exactly what to do next. Should I stack? Should I zone the offlaner? should I pull? should I gank somewhere else?

So I wanted to know if there are some must watch/read videos or guides about the general supporting role, as well as some players that only play support in high levels pubs to learn from the replays.

Thanks.

What is the position 5?

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 10:19 AM PDT

Pretty much the title. I mostly play carry and want to play something different. Could someone also name a few position 5 heroes?

Going straight for the throne or additional rax.

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 10:17 AM PDT

This is something I really want to know about. Save for obvious things like base race or killing enemy carry after buyback when your team is relatively intact, I don't know when I should go straight for the throne or going for the other t3/rax sets.

Tips on playing a better slark

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 11:53 PM PDT

So I was going through my dota Buff and I realize I have a trash win rate with slark (28% 14 games played) I didn't realize it was this bad and i need some general tips on how to play with slark. Play style and how to use him is what I really need, I have skills and items down well, I just need tips on how to play with him

I've decided I want some help. At wits end.

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 08:02 PM PDT

For the past 1-2 years I've been in the same MMR (2k) and I haven't improved. Last year's ti allowed me to calibrate for that short time but I still ended up near my actual MMR in normal ranked games. This year, the exact same thing happened.

I watch pro games constantly, or watch 6-7k+ mmr games on the watch tab constantly (something i'm known for in my group of friends) I study my own replays, I know how to build the correct items (usually) to counter certain heroes. I try to farm as best as I can or at least to the best of my ability.

I've adapted farm patterns my old coaches have told me about and I've learned to try and rotate out of the safelane faster because this patch is a lot faster now.

https://www.dotabuff.com/players/85497097

I'm a bit nervous about showing my dotabuff because there are a few games that I was clowning around with friends (lycan cosplaying as naga for example) or when I was irrational about a jungler in my game. Thanks for reading and hopefully I can try and adjust somehow to climb the hard climb.

Is there a specific way to find good teammates in solo ranked international?

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 08:18 PM PDT

Hey,

So the good news about International Ranked: you don't get as many Peruvians. The bad news: You get the rich kids with a lot of money on their dad's credit card.

I was stuck in the 700-900 (I got to 1k but then lost it again) trench and then requeued at 1.1k (and got to 1.2k). The past 3 days, I've lost over 100 MMR because I've queued with horrible and toxic teammates. Either someone is greedy and tries to get kills (fails and dives tower), OR someone just flames/is toxic and ruins everyone on the team's gameplay. There are rare gem games where I get awesome teammates, but I haven't won a solo ranked game in over 3 days! This disappoints me as I still have around 25 games to play before I can claim my 1.2k status (and hopefully make it to 2k).

It's super disappointing for me to win mid/my lane and get tons of kills/towers and then lose the game because my team is either uncoordinated or just doesn't understand how to play.

I know, some of you "coaches" or people that haven't experienced the trench before will say "you're what makes the Dota community toxic" OR "you're the only reason why you're in the trench", but I disagree. If you want, I can share all the international ranked matches I've lost and you can clearly see what I mean. It's not always the team's fault, I make mistakes at times which could potentially throw the game...

My main question is, is there a specific timeframe or way to get good teammates in solo queue?

(Sorry for the rant; I just finished a game with my 3k friend that we lost because we had 0 team coordination... 1k is different from 3k skill wise; I normally can do well with him because I'm used to playing at that bracket, but I played 8-10 games at my bracket already today and got used to soloing objectives... In short, I'm trying to get out of 1k so that I can start learning how to get better and stop solo-carrying).
